At home & comfortable in the West Village: I was treated like a welcome family friend at this charming, fabulously located, historic guest house.
Chats with Vincent, who has worked at Incentra for 20 years, made this visit memorable. He told tales of the Incentra Village's history and of its colorful founder, Gaylord Hoftiezer (worth googling). Anything my friend and I needed during our stay, Vincent and Netta provided quickly and graciously.
My friend and I shared the Bishop Suite, which was roomy and comfortable for two people. I gave her the upstairs loft with the full bed, which was warmer. Several times, she spontaneously said, "I *love* this bed!" She took a nap every day, too.
I stayed on the fold-out sofa in our living room and opened a window. I bought an inexpensive foam mattress cover, which resolved the lumps and made the sofa quite sleepable.
Steps away from Incentra's entrance are locally owned restaurants, bars, and coffee shops I wish I could bring home with me.
The first time one enters Incentra Village, one must ring the bell and wait for the staff on duty to respond. They might be helping someone else, but they'll get there as soon as they can. Once I checked in and got my keys, coming and going was as easy as being at home.
The building is old. Don't expect a sterile new hotel. I'm pretty fussy about clean, and Incentra was fine for me.
Our suite was clean and well appointed for our stay. The kitchenette included a coffee maker, cups, glasses and flatwear. There was lots of extra bedding in our closet. There was an extra portable heater, which I gladly relinquished for another guest, as I run hot. Vincent provided a free-standing fan, which was good for cooling and white noise.
To inform other light/fussy sleepers: I'm not sure this would be a great choice to stay with my husband. We both need our sleeping room super-cold, so neither of us could sleep in the Bishop's loft on the real bed. We require either a king-size bed or two beds in order not to awaken each other. The Stonewall Room has two beds, but I fear overhead or outdoor noise might keep us awake.
However, when traveling on my own (or with a friend who sleeps better than I), I would choose Incentra Village in a heartbeat.
