Independente Comporta (Comporta, Alentejo) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Comporta is rightfully celebrated for its wild natural beauty: the town sits on a stretch of the Alentejo coast where rice paddies and pine forests border white-sand beaches. The area’s best hotels, like the newly opened Independente Comporta, were specifically designed to complement its unusual landscapes. The hotel is set back from the sea in the quiet countryside, and its design was inspired by the layout of a traditional Portuguese village, with whitewashed villas outfitted by local artisans. To further encourage a communal atmosphere — a skill perfected by the owners, a team of brothers, at their urban hotels in Lisbon and Porto — Independente Comporta has a large saltwater swimming pool and bar, retro-inspired fire pits for after-dark gatherings, and a pair of lively restaurants that attract a stylish local crowd." - Tablet Hotels

This was a really beautiful and relaxing hotel. I loved a lot of the design and much of the property is stunning. And it's so quiet and peaceful. I feel like as such, and as guests might be seeking a wellness experience, a really nice gym would elevate this property significantly! It would make the morning routines so much better. Hope they are considering this in the near future. Otherwise, service was great. Everyone was friendly. Breakfast was good every morning, as was the coffee. Rooms are cool and well stocked. Would stay again, would LOVE to see a fitness area next time. :)

We had a terrible experience at this hotel. My pregnant wife became seriously ill with food poisoning after eating spoiled fish served at the hotel restaurant. The chef initially admitted the fish was off, but later, all staff completely denied. Despite repeatedly explaining that my wife was pregnant and suffering from severe diarrhea, there was no concern, care, or support from either the staff or management. We felt ignored and dismissed throughout the ordeal, which made an already distressing situation even worse. I cannot recommend this hotel, especially to families or anyone with health concerns.

We’ve booked a private villa with 3 bedrooms and a private pool. Absolutely gorgeous and calm place to rest and enjoy a getaway. The staff was very attentive and helpful every step of the way. Will come back.

Booked this place late summer 2024 for a stay in August /September 2025 - ourselves, our parents, our children. Booked flights accordingly.||January 2025 - a message to say our booking of a 3 bed villa private pool villa was being cancelled and if we wanted, replaced with 3 double rooms. No good for our group, and obviously quite a different offering owing to lack of communal space and the private pool facility sought. First of all the hotel blamed on a "technical glitch" then "overbooking". Given I was in direct communication with the hotel at the time of booking, many months ago, as well as booking through booking.com, I thought it was abundantly clear that the hotel had decided to cancel our booking in favour of another.... The hotel did not deny this and said they would move us to "another village" with similar accommodation. But read on...||As with any booking, we spent many hours researching precisely where we wanted to stay and so the idea of being relocated at the choice of the hotel is completely unsatisfactory. ||Despite chasing the hotel for details of their alternative offering, they've not bothered to get back in touch, knowing full well they've left our holiday in total disarray.||I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait a few more days for a response, but in my own search for other accommodation to salvage the holiday, I now see that our villa at Independente IS in fact still available on booking.com - just at 4 times the price. The irony of this is, we would have paid the additional amount in the first place, and we're about to book something elsewhere, actually more costly than the new price they're charging.||But this place has well and truly put money before it's customers, and that's no doubt a good indicator as to the overall experience we may well have had at Independente. I sense a very lucky escape!||Book at your own risk, and think twice before booking your flights and car hire to go and stay at this place! A very shoddy, very disingenuous way to treat guests who've booked their holiday in good faith, and certainly not a hotel we'll ever consider again. ||Shame on you Independente.

Elegant hotel with villa type rooms. Helpful staff, nice breakfast, on site parking. Comfortable beds. 20 minutes drive from Comporta. Rooms on the small side. Can rent e-bikes from the hotel.

Independente Comporta is a lovely hotel, with beautifully furnished rooms and villas in a tranquil setting. We stayed in a two-bedroom villa which was perfect for a family of four. We had our own private pool which was amazing. The rooms are very tastefully decorated with every detail carefully considered, from the lovely products in the bathrooms to the towelling robes to wear by the pool. The food at breakfast and dinner was delicious, and the staff were amazing: very professional, helpful and friendly. The local area is great, with a stunning beach 15 minutes away and fantastic restaurants in Comporta Village. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel and we would love to return.

Stayed for 3 nights in Villa 13- with a (ice cold pool) Pros: • Beautiful location with stunning decor. • The restaurant serves fantastic food. • Spacious villas, perfect for families with self-catering options. Cons: • Serious safety concern: We stayed as a family in October, and the fireplace in our villa was a major issue. The wood was damp, the chimney didn’t ventilate properly, and there are no carbon monoxide detectors. With our kids sleeping near the fire, this was really worrying. • Poor communication: At check-in, we weren’t shown any of the hotel facilities or told about the bikes or spa. When we asked for a room change, no one followed up. • Missing basics: For a self-catering stay, we were surprised there was no toaster, colander, or drying stand—simple things that we had to request multiple times. • WiFi didn’t work consistently, making it hard to stay connected. • Limited amenities: The only heated pool is in the spa, which you have to pay extra to use. There’s really nothing else to do around the hotel, especially in the off-season. • Bad smell: Our villa had a strong sewage odor, which made it uncomfortable. • Management didn’t respond: Despite raising these concerns directly with the hotel, we didn’t receive a reply, which was frustrating. Main Concern: The lack of carbon monoxide detectors with a poorly functioning fireplace is a serious safety issue, especially for families staying during the winter.

A new hotel that is sympathetic in design and simply beautiful. The villas with private pools are amazing as are the common areas. We ate in both restaurants plus breakfast and all were really good. Service was well-meaning but had some minor issues with communication. I'm sure with experience it will improve however and it really didn't detract from a great stay! Also, great value compared to other hotels in the area and in my opinion just as nice!
