Very unhappy with the way I was treated today. I went there for the first time yesterday, and loved it so much that I went back--all the way from Flagstaff, a 40 minutes drive.
When I got there, I was told by a "laptop user" I briefly chatted with yesterday, that there was a new regulation that laptop users could only stay for two hours. Apparently, it was because of the "traffic" (of people). I looked around, and many tables were, anyway, empty. I thought, "Okay, a bit inconvenient, but I can do that."
A little later, a waitress came up to me and said that it was the "holiday weekend" and that no patrons using laptops would be allowed in the garden area. I spoke to Meghan, the manager/owner, and she confirmed that, saying she wants people to "enjoy the garden."
For the record, laptop users ALSO enjoy the garden. That's why they come all the way to this specific place; not any other. And by the way, laptop users are usually on their own out of choice or circumstances, and they should NOT be penalized for that. And may I add, laptop users consume as much (and sometimes, more) than non-laptop users. I always order a few drinks AND lunch when I go to any cafe/restaurant.
I don't understand this tirade against "laptop users" who could be working, writing their novels, or reading a book. Do they classify as less important, or fall at the bottom of the hierarchy, in comparison to others, including those who are on their own, reading a book, or staring out?
Sorry guys -- no logic there. At the VERY least, you could have made this regulation public and posted it on social media beforehand, and since it's newly announced, been lenient with me when I explained myself. Making last-minute rules is far from fair, transparent, and...democratic, and prevents patrons from making informed choices and decisions about how to spend their precious time.
