The Indian Naval Maritime Museum in Fort Kochi is a very informative and underrated place, especially if you’re interested in history and the Indian Navy. The museum is housed inside the historic INS Dronacharya naval base, which itself adds a lot of authenticity to the experience. It has well-organised exhibits on India’s maritime history, naval warfare, shipbuilding, navigation instruments, uniforms, weapons, and models of different Indian naval ships and submarines. There are detailed sections explaining the evolution of the Indian Navy, important naval operations, and India’s role in maritime trade and defence. The outdoor area has decommissioned naval equipment and missiles on display, which is quite interesting to see up close. The museum is well maintained, not very crowded, and has clear information boards, so you actually learn a lot rather than just walking through. Tourists should keep at least 45 minutes to 1 hour for this place, carry a valid ID for entry since it’s inside a naval area, and note that photography may be restricted in some sections. It’s a great stop if you want a meaningful and educational experience in Fort Kochi beyond just cafés and beaches.
