"A scenic river known for its lush bwa mang trees and historical significance as a filming location for 'Pirates of the Caribbean'."

"Stroll a rain-forested path—or hire a brightly painted rowboat and guide—to reach this open-air watering hole. It anchors a rudimentary botanical garden up the Indian River, one of the most famous Pirates of the Caribbean film locations. Try the Dynamite Punch, a stiff concoction allegedly containing 44 fruits. “One cup is good, two is better, but for three, we call 9-1-1,” cautions Guide James “Bond” Henry."

This was an experience to remember the tour guide is very educational about the surrounding. Best part of my trip

Very lovely visit and very quiet in early October. Was told to park in the tourist lot on the left just before the main building, restrooms available. Was asked to pay EC$120 for a single trip (with group) but ended up paying EC$100. Not sure if that's typical but seemed like a lot. Floating down the river was calm, peaceful and hot. First visited Calypso's Voodoo House and then moved on down the river to a small bar where you can order the famous Rum Punch for EC$20. A small flower garden there too. Saw hummingbirds, white crabs, yellow crown night heron, along with bwa mang trees. My guide was Dinosaur, very kind and easygoing. Great trip, just not sure it's worth $35 USD for an hour and a half.

We did the Indian River tour because it was one of the things we were most excited about on the trip — we’re big Pirates of the Caribbean fans and really wanted to see the “Witch’s Hut.” On that point, we weren’t disappointed at all: the river is beautiful, the atmosphere is special, and that stop is genuinely worth it. However, beyond just the arrival, the whole experience felt very tourist-oriented overall. From the moment you get there, you’re approached by multiple guides, and it can create that uncomfortable “walking wallet” feeling. More generally, it’s definitely one of the most touristy places we visited in Dominica, which is a contrast with how peaceful and authentic the rest of the island feels. That said, our guide was great, and once we were on the river we did enjoy it. Overall, it’s a nice tour for the scenery and the film connection — just go in knowing it’s a more touristy setup than elsewhere on the island.

A river ride on a fishing boat through an enchanting forest. It was a different world in there.

A trip on the Indian river is highly recommendable and you will have a lovely time on the water in an amazing jungle. It’s definitely worth the trip and the money! Once you get there, you would need to buy a government pass at the gas station to be allowed on the river. In addition to that, you would need to pay for the boat ride. Be aware, lots of the men offering a boat ride are intoxicated and quite aggressive in selling their services. Just talk with them and you will smell whether or not they are intoxicated. We found in the end a nice guy to take the trip with (he goes by the name ‘Superman’ ;-)) and we enjoyed ourselves a lot! Have fun!

Easy going, basic info. Great if in the area but not worth a major detour. Still 60$EC for guide and 21$EC for park entrance. So not a given if you’re on a budget. I’m getting used to paying here and there for everything in Dominica. Not sure how activities prices are controlled here… Still a fun, short outing for sure!
