An extraordinary experience I’ve had recently. As a mechanical engineer and a car enthusiast I had my own time inundated by the artifacts and watching the Indy history. As I walk along I realized that this place is well designed and structured in a way that they take you in a small history tour without missing any key detail. Well preserved artifacts were mesmerizing and fascinating to look into. Overall a must visit place if you visit Indianapolis.

The iconic Indianapolis motor speedway , the brickyard ! We did the tour and chose a 90 minute golf cart tour. They give you a lanyard for your tour ticket which you get to keep. It was just the two of us and 2 tour guides. You go out in a large golf cart and NOTHING was off limits on the tour. They took us EVERYWHERE ! The guides were so friendly and personable. The track has so many features and so much history, you need 90 minutes to see everything. They took us on the track, we got to kiss the bricks and go into the race control center, victory lane and so much more. We were there in the weeks prior to the 500 and got to see all of the brand new pace cars lined up on the track. This your is a must for any race fan !

Phenomenal historical visit. Not an Indy car or nascar guy, but the place was awesome! Museum was stellar, people were very friendly, and you could feel the history all around you. Track tour was awesome and the volunteers were very knowledgeable and you can tell they love what they do. Would highly recommend this one in you’re ever in Indy!

The Greatest Spectacle in Racing. IMS has a brand new museum for 2025 and worth the price of admission. The race is awesome. The drivers and personable. Race day is you and 300 thousand of your 'closest' friends. It's an experience and should be on your bucket list.

We visited to see the museum and speedway. Museum was fun and has a lot of what you'd expect. Would recommend getting the additional tickets at the end of the tour to travel to the tracks (they have a few different tours). Went on off season so it wasnt too crowded.

Amazing racing venue. Unfortunately went on a half rainy day, but it was very cool to walk around the inside of the track. Lots of great angles, specifically the back straight and turns 12-14 (last set of turns). Would definitely see another GT3 race here again.

Awesome experience, first time anywhere like it. People were nice, exhibits were detailed and clean, and the tour was educational and very cool to listen to.

I love car racing, but I'm not an oval fan; thus, my review of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is not your "based on a race" more common vibe. My brother-in-law's forte is race cars, he's mechanically inclined and can basically repair anything with wheels, thus works in the race car field. His team was doing test runs/practice day, so we stopped by to add him to our driving caravan headed out west. Got a chance to park down in the pit area and walk all around. I had no idea the track was smack in the middle streets/businesses; I was assuming it'd be out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by corn fields, so that was pretty cool. All my previous experiences with IMS have been via the tv, which they make it look so huge - which it is, don't get me wrong, being a 2+ mile circle - but the bleachers are way more up close and personal, no what I had always pictured it. Anyway, would I ever come here for a race? No way, cars going round and round in the same circle is boring to me, but I now appreciate the scale and longevity of this track. I even walked the brick on the track, so boom, haha!

I figure while in Indy, you might as well stop by the place that makes the city famous, right? So I visited, and I was told ahead of time that the museum was not open (it was undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation, supposedly the first time in 50 years or something like that...). But I got to see the track, as well as go inside the building where all the V.I.P.'s hang out (I forgot he name of it but it's right at the line). My tour group did not go anywhere near the track however, because Chevrolet was doing some sorta promotional thing on the track that day. Apparently, on some days of the year they rent out the track to corporations. But it would have been cool to touch the brick or get my pic taking with the finish/start line. Still, it was a great experience. Learned a lot of history, that's for sure.

Kiss the Bricks tour - Great, quick experience This tour is $15 for adults, $8 for kids up to 15, and free for those under six. It is about 30 minutes of tour time, plus there are some photo ops before or after and the souvenir shop too. You round the track in a tram while listening to a guided Historic tour. Tons of interesting facts, even if you are not a racing fan. We are not, but really enjoyed the history piece of the tour. You get out at the start/finish line, see the original bricks and take more photos. The tour guide and driver are both very happy to help take photos. Something fun and educational to kill some time while in Indianapolis!!

What an incredible experience The speedway itself is beautiful, clean and well designed It never feels like you will be crushed by the crowds Lots of entrances and exits disperse people well I can't wait to come back !

We were so lucky to avoid the rain during our tour... AND ran into Roberto Guevera and Davy Jones!!! Nicest people!!!

A must visit location for any race fans. A really unique track that just emits history. Lots of cool and fun stuff to see. Word of warning is that it can get very busy on race day. Leave yourself a lot of time to get in and out.

Let me start by saying I'm not a fan of motor sports. I visited the motorway for the total solar eclipse in April 2024. NASA was there broadcasting so it felt the most 'legit' to watch here. The area is huge. There's a museum (unfortunately under construction when we visited) plenty of souvenir and food areas, and the track itself. The space was set up nicely for the event with meet and greets, demonstrations, and multiple viewing screens. I watched the opening ceremony then wandered out to a grassy spot for the eclipse. It was breathtaking. Almost as breathtaking as feeling the cars whizz past doing hundreds of miles. I can see the appeal. There's plenty of eateries nearby and security was friendly and offered suggestions.

Anytime someone's asked me where I'm from if I'm out of town they always ask me if I've been to the Indianapolis 500. Most people from all over the world know of the race. It's the world's largest sporting event. I always say yes I have! I've come multiple times attending the 500, the Brickyard - NASCAR cars, and the one that was really neat was the Red Bull Air Race with small planes weaving in and out of pylons all across the inside of the track. I wish they would bring that back. If you come you will see lots of people in yellow polos. They're called the "yellow shirts." If you need help or have questions they will help you. Wear sunscreen and bring ear plugs even if they're the little ones in the plastic bags. So many people have asked me that come to the race do I need these? Yes, NASCAR is even louder since the cars and the engine is much bigger than the Indy car. Try to bring only the things you need. You will be carrying it and walking a lot. Wear comfortable shoes also! High heels are not what you wear here. They do sell flip flops in the gifts shops. If you're in Gasoline Alley area you will see some yellow shirts with whistles. Pay attention. They will control the crowd and create a path so that the cars, drivers, tires, and whatever else they need from the garages to get over to the pits. Just be aware and I've seen people looking down on their phone not realizing everyone else has stopped and they get whistled at and still aren't paying attention to stop. The Gordon Pipers you may see all through the IMS. They're a Scottish/Celtic group that have been around since the 1960's that play bagpipes and drum music and all wear traditional kilts! They sound so neat! If you've never been it really is a neat experience just to see and hear the flyover by military planes and then the wave of the green flag and the start of the race. Maybe next year will be your year to come to the 500!

Visited on two different instances: - Attended Indy 500 ( May 2021) I must say both experiences were outstanding ! indy 500 was a unique experience. The crowd was very friendly. Mostly family, corporate or friend group who longed for the race. You are able to bring your own food, drinks ( including alcoholic beverages). If anyone in your circle has interest into car racing, this is definitely an activity they would enjoy. -Toured the museum in July 202. My dad is a huge fan of car racing, so I thought it would be a great chance for him to tour the place as he missed out on the race earlier during the year. We all enjoyed it very much. The ticket to the museum includes a guided drive through on the race track( via shuttle -departure every 30 min I think). Once you reach the race track you are welcome off the shuttle and can walk around the departure / bricks area and snap some photos. A great plus was the our guide spoke multiple languages to accommodate for the range of clientele.

This place is HUGE. I was in pure awe. Came to my first Indy 500, and I highly recommend to anyone, race car fan or not. The weather this year was perfect! Overcast for most of the race so while it was still hot, it was bearable. If you purchase general admission, I suggest bringing lawn chairs or at least a towel to sit on because the grass is sharp and is quite irritating. I forget grass can be very uncomfortable! Walking around, I could feel the rumbling from both the race cars and the Snake Pit. The Snake Pit is a concert within the speedway, and man do I wish I was in there. I guess that just means I'll have to come back again sometime! Throughout, there are places you can eat. I recommend researching what food stands will be there and location. I wish I had done that. I did enjoy a corn dog, and man, it was the best corn dog I've ever had.

This year's race was the 21st Indy 500 for my son and I. The magic of the speedway and pageantry of pre-race ceremonies has been our tradition to respect and honor our country's' veterans and current servicemen and women. The track improvements by the Penske family is noticeably evident and insures the awe of this facility will endure. We sit in turn one and get re-acquainted with seat neighbors from Georgia and Texas. The Purdue Band and always provides an amazing show. And EVERY HOOSIER must hear Jim Cornelison sing "Back Home Again in Indiana"with a chorus of 350,00 fans. It's goosebumps for all. Traffic in and out is slow but very well managed by Speedway, Indianapolis and Indiana law enforcement. And of course the "yellow shirts" are amazing as they have been for years. All central Indiana residents need to experience Main Street Speedway when the race is over. The revitalization of the Main Street is extraordinary and should be experienced without the May crowds.

This is the perfect place to watch fast cars and have fun!! IMS is great for dates or to hang out with friends and family! There are so many vendors for you to check out food, drinks, and merchandise!!

My grandson and I attended the IMS Road Course race, aka Grand Prix of Indianapolis, in 2019. Our seats were right on the finish line about five rows down from the very top. Since we were directly across from the Pagoda we had a great view of everything going on. Since I watch every race on TV, I was able to easily recognize the drivers without binoculars. But with binoculars you can see the faces of who they were talking to. From our seats, we could see the entire front straightaway and turns one, two, three and four. At the other end we could see turns 12, 13 and 14. Since there are huge grandstands on both sides of the track, the straightaway has often been referred to as "the canyon." IndyCars are already very loud so when they race at full speed, the "roar" is deafening and I wear ear protection. I'll never forget the first time I heard IndyCars practicing at Mid-Ohio. When they shift gears it sounds like they are breaking the transmission it is so loud. Mr. Penske had not yet bought IMS when we attended in May of 2019. I did notice the restrooms were outdated and I am glad to hear he addressed them right away. For the road course race there were no open food vendors inside the track, however food trucks were available just outside the gate. I didn't want to ride an elevator down 6 stories and walk that far so I sent the grandson to fetch us our grub. I think at least one IMS food vendor needs to be open if they want to grow the attendance for the road course race. Parking was super easy in Lot 2. We waited until almost race time before arriving there was plenty of space to park because attendance is no where near that of the Indy 500. If you hate crowds and lines like I do then I recommend the road course race. We never waited in line to enter, go through security, or use the restrooms. Next time we go, I'll probably purchase Bronze Passes for Paddock access. But I'm used to having free access having worked for car sponsors and coordinating VIP tickets for our clients in the past. I did miss viewing the cars up close and personal this year.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a staple of Indianapolis. Getting to tour the grounds and see some of their assets that make the place special was truly amazing. IMS even consist of a golf course partially inside the grounds! Definitely a must visit if you are in Indianapolis!

I came here for the big race, the Greatest Spectacle in Sports. We had paid for parking in a persons yard that was in walking distance from the track. It gets kind of crazy on race day and you have to get their early. The Speedway opened back in 1909 and is currently owned by Penske Entertainment Corp. It has a 2.5 mile motorcycle course with 16 turns, a 2.5 mile Rectangular oval track with 4 turns, a 2.6 mile SCCA Runoffs Road Course with 15 turns, and a 2.4 mile Grand Prix Road Course with 14 turns. The track hosts IndyCar races, NASCAR Cup Series's Verizon 200, the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The speedway seats approximately 250,000 and after, general admission tickets are added, the total jumps up to 350,000. They really cram those people into those metal bleachers. It can get uncomfortable, especially on a hot day. And with that many people, you can imagine that parking is very challenging. There are a few lots, but the spaces go very quick. The track is very clean and packed with amenities. They have over 160 bathrooms and big Jumbotrons that give spectators a view of the action, no matter where they are sitting. The pagoda is the signature of the track and is awesome. It is a blessing and a curse to be able to bring coolers and food into the stadium. It is cool because you save money and have your own stuff. It is a curse because you are cramped in your seat with a big cooler under your feet. There is no shade in sight, and if you catch an event on a hot day, look out, you will fry. This is really an awesome venue and would be great to watch a smaller event. Maybe I should not have started off with the 500. It was a bit overwhelming. The staff is nice and patient and it is very clean. On a side note, I also have been here to see their annual Christmas light display. It was good, but it was a long line. You can hear the engines of the cars roaring around this track from miles away. It is an awesome sound (and smell). I respect the tradition of the Indianapolis 500 at the Speedway and even went once. I guess it is an unwritten rule that if you live in Indianapolis, you must go to the race atleast once. So, I checked that box off, however, I am not fan. I will probably not go to the 500, but I am open to going to another smaller scale event because the venue is just that nice.

It good but overpriced and always rains so I would understand if you don't go to it. Four stars

First visit. Man, this place is HUGE - much bigger than it looks on TV. Everything on the property was first-class. Very impressive! I was surprised by how crappy the surrounding neighborhood is - something else you don't get on TV.

The roar of engines and the smell of racing fuel, very very cool. Unfortunately we had to keep our distance as the Race Car Association was here this week. We wandered around,, saw some race cars getting on and off the track, Got on the observation mounds and took Hail Mary photographs as the cars flew by. I was impressed with the towering pagoda structure, the start-finish line. It has nine tiers or viewing levels and reaches a height of 153 feet, equal to a 13-story building. Housed in the 20 yrs old Pagoda are state-of-the-art facilities for race control, safety, timing and scoring and radio broadcast booths.

This shocked me. I have always heard the Speedway knows crowds. Four of us purchased tickets to witness the eclipse inside the Speedway. We anticipated crowds so we arrived before 11. We had no problem parking. We were excited to notice all the out of state license plates. As we approached the gate 6 we noticed a line that appeared to be quite long. We saw a staff member so we asked him. He agreed the line was long and suggested Gate two but he had no way to communicate with anyone so he could not tell us how long that line was. So no radio or phone communication. We started to walk to the end of the line. We walked and walked. AT NO POINT WAS THERE ANY SPEEDWAY PERSONNEL TO GIVE US DIRECTION. Finally after we walked over 1/2 mile and could still not see where to join the line we gave up. We went back to our car and left the grounds warning people as they headed to the gate. This was so disappointing. I travel and have always talked about Indy as a Motorsport capital and the outstanding job the Speedway does. Well no more. All these people were probably not motor sports fans. Imagine if they were greeted by Speedway staff and welcomed. Instead with the exception of the brief conversation with one staff member (who was gone by the time we returned to the gate area) we saw no welcoming whatsoever. I will be requesting a refund and I WILL NOT BE RETURNING. I did attend a wonderful celebration in my neighborhood to witness the eclipse.

Drove out to get my Covid chat without an appointment. They were incredibly efficient. I was in and out of the track in under an hour.

The track will always have a special place in my heart! With how large the facilities are and how many attend the single day racing event for the 500- it's impressive how the staff and volunteers make sure to keep everyone safe! Plenty of bathrooms and food facilities throughout. Parking on race day is not enjoyable and plenty of traffic. Too bad Chick Fil A staff can't help them out to make getting in and out much quicker!

I've watched a few races on tv but it's nothing compared to in person at the track. It was so loud but exhilarating. Our company booked a Gasoline Alley suite for our annual employee picnic/appreciation day so that made my first visit extra special. We watched an IndyCar practice from the suite and it was fun but I think for the full experience you have to be in the stands. I was able to bring my mom along and was glad that it was pretty accessible. The parking lot was a little bit far from the handicapped parking but there are several lots and gates to choose from. We took an elevator up to the suite and there were plenty of staff that opened doors for us and helped direct us in the right direction.

Go for the Race, Stay for the Suite! The Indy 500 and attached museum is fantastic as always. Everyone should make at least one pilgrimage to a race!

My favorite place in the world. I love my annual pilgrimage to Indiana in May for Carb Day and the 500. Best value for the dollar in sports, and it's just a magical weekend. If you haven't been yet, go.

Such a massive stadium, worth going in for one of the biggest events of the year! I went with a group of 10 and had ample space to hang around. There's plenty of parking spots under different gates and once you get in you can eat, take a self guided garage tour or watch the actual practice race itself. A cool spot to witness the biggest events of the year and though the turnouts are massive it's hard to figure cause of the endless acres of land. Highly recommend the event at IMS, it's not hyped it's the hype!

Too big and unorganized for my liking. I think I'll watch the race from my air-conditioned living room next year. I won't run out of beer as they did here, nor will I wait in line to pee. It was an experience, but I wouldn't return.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway is an American institution, as much a part of this country as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the Alamo and the Hollywood sign. Home of the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400, it was built in 1909 and is the third-oldest permanent auto racetrack in the world. It has a seating capacity of 257,325, making it the highest-capacity sports venue in the world. Only 2.5 miles long as a rectangular oval with four identical turns, that's the main track. They also added an infield road course in 2000, measuring 2.6 miles. The Speedway was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987. I took a tour from the museum and that brought me in a shuttle bus for a single loop of the track at a stately 20 miles per hour. No cars racing of course and we were the only ones on the track. The tour stopped at the famous line of bricks. Yes, the Speedway was once completely bricked though that's been replaced and just leaving the three feet of the original bricks remaining. You're supposed to "kiss the bricks" but I opted not to keep up that tradition with my visit. Well worth a visit and hopefully once this pandemic nonsense is over, we'll be able to be here to see an actual race! [Review 13534 overall, 853 of 2020.]

If you haven't been to the Indy 500, you need to add it to your bucket list! The race itself is incredible, but the Speedway puts on such great events leading up to the event and the day of. There is a museum inside of the track as well that you could visit. On race day, be prepared for three things: a great time (of course) but also traffic and lots of walking!

What can you say? This is the granddaddy of them all the biggest spectacle in racing. Probably the biggest entity you've ever seen! And you couldn't see the whole thing unless you were in an airplane. Pre race indy500 experience was wonderful. Thunderbirds flyover, howitzer salute, the pageantry and the excitement and preparation of the indy500 the next day. Very helpful personnel, friendly people and like minded race fans everywhere. The official ims merchandise store was fun shopping at insane prices but it's expected.

After living in Indy for 2 years I finally got a chance to be at IMS.. This place is HUGE!!! Went there for the Indy500 quals with a group of 20 ish people The Qualifying day was a total chill vibe! You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks (even coolers if they can fit under the seat) Including alcohol. Glass bottles are not allowed. There are obviously plenty of parking options. We chose the parking lot right next to the entrance at Gate 1. Of course the crowd would be a lot bigger on the actually race day so not sure how the parking situation is on that day!. If live in Indy or are visiting Indy definitely check out this place!!

Had an ABSOLUTE great time. Even though it was delayed for a few hours, the crew had worked so hard to make sure this race was ready for the 400k people there.

Such a beautiful place with so much racing history! Didn't get the chance to go through the museum tour, but the gift shop is awesome and just walking around outside was a really cool experience.

How do you rate this venerable institution with anything less than 5 shining stars? I get chills as I drive under the grandstand tunnel remembering all of the automotive history that happened here. The impact of Mr Penske's ownership is evident too. The overused word, "spotless" describes every inch of the facility. I recall the days when Penske and a few others ran the Nazareth race course. It always was cleaner and served better food than almost every other track around. This is what the staff people told me. Cleaning, painting, upgrading... it's all happening here and that me and a bright future for the sport. I recommend the museum to anyone interested in open wheel racing. All of the cars on display were winners and the display cards tell a great story. There are docents who can take the visitor through the details of each car and I recommend that you catch one of these folks for a tour. Get in early for the best, crowd free, photos. There is a special exhibit in the lower level for an additional fee. I passes due to time limits but you may want to splurge as it's pretty expensive. In the area? Visit the museum and take a tour bus ride around the track ... you will love it.

"WHAT?!? You're going to let me ride around the Indianapolis Speedway racetrack . . . . and get out and kiss the bricks? Somebody pinch me because I must be dreaming!" I stopped at the Speedway for the museum, not for a race, but it was just as thrilling. The tour bus raced us around the track upwards of 20 mph but you can easily imagine adding another 0 to that. I've toured a few baseball stadiums where you might walk around the perimeter of the field but aren't allowed to actually step on it. This was so much cooler. And then to actually kiss the bricks . . . . HELL YES!!!

Driven2SaveLives BC39 returned for its second year running Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019 at the quarter-mile, clay oval Dirt Track inside Turn 3 at IMS. This event is exciting to watch and a great addition for the currrent 10 days of racing starting with the Labor Day Drags, 2 nights of Dirt Track leading into this weekends Brickyard 400. The race was sold out last year and IMS added 600 additional seats this year which were almost sold out for the second year. This event is in memory of Brian Clausen who died in a tragic crash in August 2016 but he donated 5 organs saving lives and helped over 75 people with his tissue donation. Even today he extends lives, literally, by inspiring thousands to pledge their organs to save others. Are you an organ donor? If not, please consider. This is a family friendly event and I get a kick out of watching the younger fans, and adults, get so excited as the cars battle for the win. IMS always brings the best races and the best 90 short-track racers in America to this spectacular USAC Midget National Championship race. Drivers from California, Arizona, New Zealand and many Indiana drivers to name a few. It's exhilarating watching the cars go three wide in the turns, sliding sideways or drifting through the turns, and battling to the end regardless if it's the hot laps, qualifying or the final DC39 lap race. Kyle Larson was the winner of the thrilling Stoops Pursuit Race on Wednesday. What a finish!! Only three cars were left in the race; last lap, last turn, 2 cars flip (no injuries) at once and the last car remaining wins!! Everyone was on their feet. Congrats Kyle Larson!! Thursday night was just as exciting with 16 year old, (yes 16!) Zeb Wise, of Angola, IN, winning after a thrilling four lap shootout with his teammates. Wise won $15,000 for his third USAC National Midget victory of the season in the 39BC. $15,000 is the largest payout in midget racing. If you go to the IMS dirt track midget race know you will get dirty with plenty of dirt thrown from the track. Bring eye protection with some form of glasses, maybe a bandana or mask for dust and a hat or hoodie. The crowd and cars are loud and some prefer to have ear plugs. NO outside alcohol or coolers are allowed at the dirt track. I know! That threw me too but it's a dirt track thing. Yes, it's IMS but no coolers or alcohol at this race. Clear bags with snacks are allowed. Several food and merchandise vendors are onsite. I hope the fans continue to support the IMS dirt track and these spectacular races continue for years to come.

As it so happen I was in town just weeks prior to greatest spectacle in racing and the running of its 103rd race. I've not once attended a running after residing in state for two decades. However, I've been to the track multiple times for Carb Day and other events when in my teens. The location is in Speedway Indiana which is on the Northside of Indianapolis. Just miles from I70 and not too far from the airport. The track has been in the Hulman family since 1945 when purchasing it from Eddie Rickenbacker. The track was broken down and dilapidated and needed lots of money. Terre Haute native Tony Hulman resurrected the property with his wealth from the Clabber Girl product he manufactured. This Spring was a historic day in the family as ownership of Clabber Girl transferred to B&G foods. Just last month I reflected back on my visit to the museum a couple of years ago. It was so enjoyable for the kids, well me too! The fact I'm a Hoosier also holds sentimental value. I even got to be on the track with a tour. Check out the museum it's open year around. They also have a Pete Dye designed championship golf course which is open year around. It's ranked as a top 100 of Public courses. The Brickyard Crossing holds a major PGA event. The Indianapolis 500 is the Holy Grail of racing. It is the oldest major car racing competition in the world. I feel confident even if your not a Motörhead you would enjoy learning about the track through touring the museum. Or maybe attending a pre race day event such as Carb Day. Better yet experiencing the thrill of attending a race. One day I will attend a Indy 500.

Our family loves anything to do with the place. From the practices of any race to the Christmas lights in the past. My husband and I moved from almost Avon to Speedway almost 6 years ago to be closer to the track. My husband has been going to the race since we was 7 and he is now 32, I have been going since I was 24 and am now 30. Missed going last year, but we got to take our 8 year old daughter for the first time and she loved it. Just the atmosphere of this place puts a smile on our face. I love driving down Crawfordsville Rd. or 16th and seeing this place. Nothing beats IMS!!

If you live near or ever have the chance to visit Indianapolis, you have to stop at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It's iconic, beautiful and if you are lucky, you will get to hear one of the best sounds ever......vroom vroom. :) I grew up listening to the race on the radio and watching the replay of the event. Although I've never attended race day, I have attended the Indy 500 practice. You definitely need to add to your bucket list. Stop by the Pagoda for a picture and enjoy your surroundings. Speedway is a cool place for food and drinks if you have time. Dawson's on Main!

Put the Indy 500 on your bucket list! If you have never experienced the race, the Americana, the excitement, and the crowd, you are missing out! The Speedway was on fire this year welcoming the enormous crowd back to the track! The facility looked great and there were plenty of food/beverage stands; though my favorite part is they let you take in small coolers so you can pack your own food and drink! Even with the giant crowd, lines were reasonable. As far as the pre-race festivities......AHmazing! Two flyovers, multiple singers, "Back Home in Indiana", Blake Shelton, Introduction of the Drivers, Taps, 21 Gun Salute.......Memorial Day at its finest!!!! The weather was perfect, the track was in great shape, the crowd was excited and it was a great race! Looking forward to many years to come!

What??? I live in Indy and haven't written a review of the IMS yet? Well, here it is, folks. When one attraction in your city brings in about 300,000 spectators from around the world, you can't help but be grateful. Not only is the IMS the home of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, but the Indy 500 is the world's largest spectator sport. Now that's glorious. Coolest fact ever: "It's been said that Yankee Stadium, the Rose Bowl, Churchill Downs, the Colosseum in Rome and Vatican City all can fit inside the Indy oval (253 acres)." Crazy!! There's actually a golf course in the middle of the track too, in addition to all the tailgate room. Leading up to Indy 500, you can go to the Indy 500 qualifiers or Carb Day (Carburetion Day) leading up to the race if you want a more intimate experience before the big day. The massive Pagoda is a city icon and boasts a great view of the track (with air-conditioned seating, bars, food and more). The Snake Pit in the middle of the track boasts tons of concerts and tailgating, always making for a fun time. My favorite tradition? Drivers kiss the signature bricks on the track once they've won the Indy 500 and it's also become an iconic symbol in Indy.

Carb Day 2022 was a long day at the track. It always is because you have to get moving early and keep moving until you get to your seat. This year, I had a free ticket, so I wanted to find my friend that gave it to me. I parked in the north 40, the area between the track and 30th street. This lot is free on carb day and you walk into the infield from here. Once inside you are between turns 3 and 4. I walked down to the pit area where lots of smaller venders were selling everything. Then back under the tracks to the paddock area where we found my friend. We sat right across from where the pit stop competition takes place. After practice, it was back under the track, quick tour of turns 1 and 2 and then into the throngs of a huge crowd watching Morris Day. It looked like rain, so we hiked back out and found our car. Long drive home, made it a really long day. Great fun though, can't wait until next year.

This review is only for the Indy 500, because I sure as hell am not gonna be at this place any other time. Great if you like rednecks, beer, and EDM. Oh, and I guess there is a car race going on too or something. Acacia's pro tips: 1) DO NOT drive in or get in an Uber unless you want to wait for a very long time to leave. We biked in and passed traffic. They event let us bring the bikes in the gates and lock them up. 2) Bring your own food and drink. The official food is overpriced and not that great. Oh, expect to wait in a long line too. 3) The SNAKE PIT is where the party is at! Just don't look down. You'll see a mix of mud, beer cans, other trash, and whatever Steve Aoki decided to through from the stage this time. 4) Wear sunscreen and REAPPLY. They have some available if you forget yours. It's now June 11 and my skin is still red.

A must see when you hit the Indy area. We love the speedway and tours. The staff is always friendly and they are passionate about there jobs. This was my second tine here and my friends had never been. They were floored about the place. Good times had by all. The speedway has about 250 cars they have in inventory. They change the display about every six months. This time was a tribute to Marion Andretti. Was really cool.

I'm not into race cars, or get excited about cars period. But being here, knowing mister, my son and pretty much all the men in my family would be super stoked if they were here, I had to get excited for them. There weren't any racing happening, but I did see a bunch of beautiful race cars circling the tracks, which I was able to record. There is a souvenir shop which I spent a bunch of money at purchasing shirts, hats, and collectable cars for those back home. We didn't have any trouble with parking. There was a concession stand which is probably opened only when there are races going on.

I took a 22 hour Amtrak from New York City for the Indy 500 and endured 12 hour delays on Greyhound on the way back (28 hours or so total time). That aside, it is a first class facility. I spent almost an hour in the museum which had Indy 500 winning cars from 1911-2016. Amazing collection. I was able to walk onto the actual racetrack from almost 10:30-11AM. I believe at 10:30 they stop people from entering. Amazing that I walked onto the track less than 2 hours before the race started. I also saw 10 or 12 race cars pull onto the track literally 5 feet in front of me. The surrounding town is run-down but I imagine that the property value of that area is what made it affordable to build such a huge facility there, so no complaints. The surrounding town I believe makes $48M per year just based off a single 3-hour race. The shuttle bus from downtown took me less than an hour. I left at 8AM and it got there at 8:45 or a little later. I walked around the entire track and it is absolutely massive. I would not recommend leaving much later than 7:30 AM or 8AM no matter how you get there, but I recommend the shuttle bus, it is waved through tons of cars by local police, so you have priority lanes. I was in the front row in the middle of the straightaway, but I got up for 25 or 30 minutes and watched standing, which some others also did, I did obstruct people's views at times but if you move 10 or 15 feet closer, you feel the power and speed more. You can also walk down a set of stairs and get another 15 feet or so closer. Both options will have guards in yellow shirts trying to get you to sit back down, but so many people are doing this that it is pretty common. I won't do it again due to me taking the cheapest transportation and long, grueling traveling. I am getting older as well, but I recommend everyone do it at least once. Before the race, 4 F-16 fighter jets made a second pass very low to the ground right above me, which they have never done before, amazing feeling. Seeing cars pass each other and jockey for position going 230MPH is a thrill unlike anything you have seen. The cars are so loud at that speed that you MUST wear ear plugs.

I've run around the track many times during the mini-marathon, came here for the 100th running of the 500, and most recently was here for a conference related event. The IMS is obviously one of those world-known places that everyone who lives in Indy should visit at least once. The sheer size of the place is impressive if nothing else! I'm always impressed with how smoothly things seem to run here whether it is the mini with thousands of runners flying, trotting and walking around the track, race day with a mid-sized city worth of people coming in and out, or this most recent visit which included dinner and drinks in the pagoda and a chance to ride in a pace car for a hot lap around the track. The staff here know what they are doing. One of these days, I need to do one of the behind the scenes tours of the IMS!

I love Indy music. Does that mean it's music from Indianapolis? You be the judge. And if I'm going to trip, I want to trip the speed way, not the weed way. Hope you understand. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is world-famous and for good reason. One of the true classic Motor Racing icons of the USA. The track itself is a little dated but it's iconic and it's fun to visit if you're into sports. Formula 1 will always be the best, but in US terms, this is right up there with Daytona.
