Ingalls Ice Rink

The is a awesome ice ring the lighting in here is awesome for taking photos. The seating is great not one bad seat. They have a food court. Parking is a little tight maybe 20 spots the rest is on the street. Bring a jacket this place is cold. The sound system is awesome. The building looks like the shape of a fish

Famous ice skating rink designed by Eero Saarinen (1910-1961). It is known as The Whale due to its shape. For me it also has a distinct Scandinavian flavor like an inverted viking ship.

Very nice rink. Med large locker-rooms, nice bleacher area for fans. Very cool architecture and design for arena.

I've been to quite a bit of college hockey arenas and I must say this one was the coolest one I've watched a game in. The building doesn't have a bad seat in the house. The architectural design of the building is iconic as well. Yale have a great arena to play their home games out of. Great place to watch hockey, highly recommend it !

Small hockey rink. No real food options. Its a nice place for college hockey

The rink stands there, proud and curved like a great fish. They call it The Whale. It's good. Saarinen built it true. You walk in. The air is cold and clean. Ice gleams. Skates cut sharp lines. The sound carries, pure and strong. It's not big. That's good. You see the sweat on the players' faces. You hear the puck crack against the boards. You're close. You're part of it. The roof arches high. A great spine of concrete and steel. It's beautiful in its way. Like a mountain is beautiful. Like a perfect pass is beautiful. Yale built this place. They did it right. No fuss. No frills. Just a place for men to play hockey and for people to watch them play it well. You sit. The game starts. The crowd roars. It feels like the whole building is alive. Like you're inside the belly of that great whale, moving with it. This is a good place. A true place. The kind of place that makes you glad to be alive and watching NCAA D1 hockey on a cold night. When you leave, you know you'll be back. The Whale calls to you. Like the sea calls to a sailor. Like the ice calls to a skater. It's a damn fine rink. Nothing more to say.

A brilliant work by Eero Saarinen: powerful, expressive, wholly integrated design with a remarkably human scale not captured in photos. Subsequent additions (enormous HVAC equipment, 1st floor restrooms, banners, roof vents, etc.) seriously intrude on this tour de force, alas. Still, it’s definitely worth a pilgrimage.

Very modern architecture. The curves bounce the sound and keep the noise level up. It's a small rink. There are really no bad seats - personally I think the standing room only tickets provide a really nice view. We were lucky enough to get second row seats but part of being so far forward was the disadvantage of an obstructed view of some of the far-side of the rink. It would be nice if they got a Jumbotron so you could see instant replays of the goals. Overall, pretty solid rink for a small school. I guess I am used to bigger stadiums such as Michigan Yost arena.

This is an incredible building(arena) for several reasons.Among them are the friendly employees who are always helpful.You get a great view of the game because the seats are close to the action.The architecture is incredible.I love the design of the building.Even the nickname is cool "The Whale".Speaking of the Whale you will even hear a few seconds of Brass Bonanza.It reminds me of The Hartford Whalers. The best part of the building is the sound of the fans applauding after a goal.You can hear the sound bouncing around the building. Came here to watch a scrimmage between SOM and HBS, which was a fun time. There's a ton of bench seating and you can get right up on the glass. Can't really hear the announcing (but that may be because of the crowd). The place is reasonably clean (there was staff scrambling to clean up from the previous game before we got there). Bring a jacket, because guess what? Ice is cold. The things you learn at Yale...

As a member of the Yale Figure Skating Club, I was fortunate enough to practice at Ingalls regularly. This rink is superior, one of the best I've had the pleasure of skating in. What makes this rink so wonderful is the cool design of the building, the rink is always pristine, the locker rooms are huge and well kept, and the staff is top-notch. Through HS and most of college I was a hockey girl or hockey girlfriend. I have been to this rink many, many times and I love it. The views are great, the rink is well maintained and everyone that works there is always super nice. The design of the rink is really neat too--the coolest I've seen, and I've been to many a hockey rink.

Ingalls Rink is a lovely building with unique architecture, that hosts hockey! What more could one want? I found the rink to be quite nice, clean, and comfortable. I look forward to many games here.

The Yale Whale is a great rink. It's incredibly unique in design, and one of the coolest buildings in all of New Haven. It's a fantastic place to watch a game, and I'd highly suggest checking this place out at least once. There's not a bad view in the entire place, and you'll be surrounded by history.
