Felt like we were coming “home” each day when we returned from touring Lincoln and Route 66 sites in Springfield. The room was quiet and inviting. The nightly wine and cheese was a great opportunity to meet fellow guests and the warm cookies brought to our room each night were yummy. Our suite on the third floor had a wonderful gas fireplace and balcony. The sitting room could benefit from a furniture refresh but the rooms were comfy, beds and pillows were great! Great location, easy parking and the warm made to order breakfast was wonderful. There are 4 concrete stairs to enter and 6 additional wooden stairs to reach the reception desk but the elevator to the third floor was speedy and helped our senior guest move around the hotel with ease.

Had a great one night stay at the Inn. It’s a charming historic building with comfortable rooms and beds. Service was great including breakfast, restaurant recommendations, and delicious freshly baked cookies on our door at night. Locations was excellent with free parking onsite and walking distance to historic sights and restaurants downtown. We’ll definitely stay again next time we’re in Springfield.

This boutique hotel is amazing. Four of us were on a trip together so we got the two bedroom suite with the living room and fireplace. Gorgeous old historic building and lovely furnishings in a quiet location. She’s an old building so she has some creaks but I wouldn’t want it any other way. Welcoming and helpful staff.

We just had our company Christmas party with 125 people in attendance at the Inn at 835 and it was fantastic! We worked with Angie to plan the event and she made the planning process super easy. The party was great and everything went perfectly without a hitch. Excellent staff, food, and venue! 5 stars! I would definitely recommend hosting your event at the Inn@835!

Stayed in the Dahlia room with the original and restored clawfoot tub...so nice to soak after a rainy and chilly November day of walking in Springfield.|The staff are kind and welcoming. We stayed 3 nights to see the Lincoln and other related sites. THis is well located in a short walk to the capital, the huge new Lincoln Museum and Library the Vachel Lindsey House and the Dana-Thomson Frank Lloyd Wright house. |This is a longtime purpose built hotel and one feels right at home. Apparently it is haunted by Rose, the business woman who built the hotel in 1909. |The WIFi is good; the TV and heater controls complicated but ultimately functional.|Clean and they accommodated our request for home made Oatmeal on our last Breakfast (We were the only guests that night.) Otherwise the breakfast is ordinary but good enough.|I highly recommend the 835.

The stay was amazing for our anniversary! The add-ons definitely made it special! We got roses, cheese, and chocolate covered strawberries. They replaced our wine with non-alcoholic versions. We had a fireplace in our room, too! We're definitely coming back next year! Or sooner!

My wife and I met our daughter for a birthday weekend in Springfield. The staff at the Inn were all very welcoming and accommodating. We stayed in the Gladiolus Room which had 2 bedrooms, and worked for our family well. The breakfasts, wine and cheese in the evening, and evening chocolate chip cookies were excellent. The Inn is centrally located for visiting the different Lincoln exhibits, the Capitol, and the Dana Thomas Frank Lloyd Wright home.

Hi. My wife and I spent two nights at the 835 Inn. We enjoyed it thoroughly. The room was comfortable and quiet. The breakfasts were among the best we have ever had at B&Bs. The site was located within walking distance of the State House and the Lincoln Home. ||The staff was wonderful. During our touring the city, my wife suffered an injury that required a visit to a hospital emergency room. The staff drove to pick us up, helped us find the medical help we needed, and continued to inquire about her condition for the rest of our stay. They went above and beyond what can be expected from a B&B. ||We highly recommend the inn.

Yelp
Just spent a girls' night here! The rooms are cute, the staff is super friendly. Wine and cheese in the evenings! Breakfast was amazing (not a buffet). It was a great experience!

Yelp
I recently stayed here for a night. It was pretty clean the staff was nice. It's a bed and breakfast so obviously they provided breakfast, coffee, and juice. It was tasty but it wasn't a lot. This particular breakfast was sausage gravy and biscuits plus eggs and browns. You might be able to ask for more I didn't check. A light breakfast worked for me that day. They also provide cookies at night. Very good. The rooms weren't modern but it's part of the theme. Also the room AC didn't get very cool imo. I thought we were working the remote correctly but maybe not. As it is an older building you can hear the wood squeak. They have wifi, Netflix, and prime video we were told. I did not verify. Overall it was nice and everything was clean. I might stay there again.

Yelp
This bed and breakfast is in a beautiful repurposed apartment building in an elegant neighborhood. On our Rte. 66 road trip we decided to treat ourselves to a night of luxury. I booked one of their suites, the Rose suite, and wasn't disappointed in the room. It's just one large room plus a bathbut that late room has a gorgeous fireplace, a leather sofa and a king sized canopy bed. The bathroom is also monstrous with a huge jacuzzi tub and a glass bricked shower with 2 shower heads. There are oodles of fluffy white towels. The bed is comfortable but is VERY high. I had to use the two step stool every tune to get in. There is a wine and cheese reception every evening and breakfast every morning in their lovely downstairs rooms. The downsides are the sad part for me as this place doesn't live up to its potential with their service. This sounds petty but their website promised robes in this elegant suite but they weren't there. When i asked the evening manager she seemed surprised andsaid she would call the manager. When we checked with her after dinner she said the robes were being stolen by patrons so they packed them away. Period. These need to be off their website then!! Springfield has much to offer so we decided to stay an extra night but in a less expensive room. They were able to give us the Iris room but wouldn't give us a discount due to the missing robes. In fact the manager was a bit snippy, saying we already had a discounted price. It was the same we saw online. (She did have 2 of the robes pulled out of storage for our second night. ) Our night 1, the wine and cheese reception included one glass of wine, then you pay for any additional wine. This isn't mentioned until you want more. Night 2, the wine wasn't even out where we could see it so we had to ask for it. There were only two kinds of cheese, in little cubes, neither of which was very good. The Iris room is small-ish but as expected. Unfortunately it was also dirty. (See the picture of the tub mat. I put it down in the tub for my shower and black stuff flew off. I turned it over and saw the mildew/mold growing on the bottom! ) The beautiful baseboards haven't been dusted in quite some time and it makes me wonder how clean the rest of it is. We just can't recommend this place. It makes me so sad!

Yelp
We stayed here here while on a Route 66 roadtrip. I usually do most of the booking and as a loyalty member at a few hotel chains, I usually stay in one of the chains' properties to pad my numbers. When looking for Springfield, I became so exasperated by the lack of reliable options, GF did me a favor and booked this quirky place. It is a cool concept and definitely out of the ordinary. Unfortunately we waited 2 hours to get our rental car and our arrival was about 45 min later than we told them. We arrived at 8:45pm and Kay, I think, welcomed us when we arrived. I really wanted to cut to the chase and get to the room after driving most of the afternoon. She personally showed us to our room which was a nice touch. The bed, room, and bathroom were beautiful. The bathroom was equipped with a jacuzzi/shower. The soap made everything smell amazing. The towels were super fluffy and cozy. We went out for dinner and came back. I jumped in the jacuzzi shower which had not excellent but certainly acceptable water pressure. Halfway through the shower, the water cooled off a bit, not ice cold, but lukewarm. The water warmed up again before the completion of the shower and GF, who went after me, has no issues with the water temp. I got changed, jumped into bed, and flipped on the TV. Unfortunately, the remotes only worked SOMETIMES and often required multiple and aggressive pressing of the buttons. Perhaps more problematic was the fact that the screen was split up into two halves and was only showing a picture on the left half, the right half was just a blue screen. I pressed every button on the remote and tried numerous different inputs, and nothing fixed the problem. This turned a probably-too-small-screen-for-the-distance into a TINY screen, probably no larger than 12 inches. So much for watching TV. That's OK though bc we both have our iPad for streaming. I tried to connect to the wifi but it required a password. The person who checked us in never mentioned the wifi password and we didn't think to ask. We checked the entire room for a piece of paper with wifi info, nothing. Of course at this hour, at this kind of place, there is nobody to ask. We finished the evening streaming something with our phone data on a tiny phone screen. Doable, but definitely not ideal and I expect more from a hotel in the 21st century.

Yelp
Great B&B. Classic building with antiques throughout. Classy outside and inside. Staff was very friendly.

Roger L.

Yelp
Five stars all the way. Loved the ambiance , the staff and the room. Throughly enjoyed my stay and if I am ever back in town this is where I will stay! Loved the jacuzzi tub and the big bed. Morning breakfast was great, scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy, French toast, bacon and red potatoes. Coffee, tea and juice in the morning. I also ended up in their brew pub downtown by accident and was pleased with the staff, food and service.

Z Q.

Yelp
If you've never been to a B&B you might be well served here. Or if you've never been to a clean house before. The breakfast aspect is less than what you'd get at a very basic hotel chain. Hard pass; we left to eat elsewhere. Just not good and shouldn't be considered a part of the stay. The place is old and creaky. Nothing wrong with that! However, our room was dusty and a little dirty. Not sure if it hadn't been stayed in for awhile or just par for the course--other reviews suggest it's on par. The walls are thin, and we could give you a play by play of the activity of the couple in the room behind us. Brava! Lots of applause for the clear acrobatics and heavy weight lifting activity that must have taken place to produce all those grunts and moans! We did find that the constant train noise really helped drown out some of the sounds of our neighbors, however, they were clearly running a marathon and not sprinting. You're on your own after 9. Just door locks to protect you as there is no apparent staff on site. An interesting approach to security, for certain! There were positives! The wine & cheese (cubes) was nice; the wines were solid. The cheese, we didn't touch, because cubes. The cookies in the basket on the door were also a nice touch! The people who work here are nice, too. In short, however: there's not a lot special here. If we could do it again, we would have stayed a greater distance away from our final destination in order to get a chain with some protocols and expectations in place. There are things in place that are blamed on COVID. The harsh reality appears to be a business in decline, cutting corners to stay afloat.

Alex L.

Yelp
This is a Bed and Breakfast located near the main downtown area of Springfield. I originally found this business by looking up online reviews, and with me being weary of Covid still, I thought this would be a great alternative to a nationwide chain. I probably would have preferred the chain hotel. First, I want to say that the staff members were all very friendly and the lady who assisted me our first night was wonderful in giving me a quick rundown of Springfield, suggesting a place to eat, etc. and one of the only reasons I'm giving this two stars instead of one. We booked the "Rose Suite" for two nights, as we wanted to leisurely browse Springfield and have a nice room to come back to. Now, the building itself is old, so squeaky floors, old windows and outdated curtains are part of the charm and was another reason this looked to be an interesting choice to stay. However, once we settled in, we noticed dirt and grime everywhere, from the mantle to the blinds on the windows to the bathroom. Then, we started finding hairs everywhere. We actually started keeping tally of how many hairs each of us found. Of course, at this point, we started going over everything with a fine tooth comb. Stained couch pillows, dirt in between the couch cushions, fireplace full of ashes, questionable stains on the bed curtains, it was a mess. It honestly feels like only the bare minimum was done to clean this room. As some other reviewers have stated, cookies are given at night in a basket. This was a really nice touch I thought. We left in the morning, and placed the cookies on the table, thinking we'd eat them when we returned. When we came back in the evening, our cookies and the little basket were gone. We searched the room thinking maybe we misplaced them. Nothing. I brought this up to the lady at the front desk and she told me that the housekeepers probably threw them away and took the basket because they only have so many of them. If I had known there was a time limit on the cookies, then maybe I would have put them on a plate or something. Regardless, we specifically requested no housekeeping, so the fact that they still went into the room to take the cookie basket is a bit concerning. This one is minor, but still should be brought up. Breakfast is served everyday. Unbeknownst to us, outside cooks are brought in to cater breakfast. If you do not alert the front desk that you will either be late or not be there during breakfast hours, the manager will tell you in no uncertain terms that you are costing them money, as they have to keep the cooks on staff until the end of breakfast hours. All in all, I was not impressed and actually a bit frustrated that the room price and online reviews did not match the quality we received. Maybe I'm missing something, but I would not recommend this place to anyone visiting Springfield. At least not until they up their game quite a bit.

Margaret J.

Yelp
We have loved spending special occasions at the Inn for the last 40 years. Anniversaries, family birthdays, get-away weekends, all called for delightfully refurbished accommodations. Our favorite part, in addition to the jacuzzis , Has always been the delightful hot breakfast. Made the price of the room worth the money. We were sad to learn that it is now gone, gone, gone. We found it replaced with cold and rubbery hard boiled eggs, Fruit Loops, and other sugary cereal, plain yoghurt in a bowl, bland melon fruit offerings, and prepackaged mini sweet rolls. We went out for breakfast afterward, still hungry. We thought that the Inn could use a makeover, an update. Perhaps the dusty, Victorian fake floral arrangements might use a visit to the dustbin. We have other suggestions, but we still love the place and don't wish to be too critical. Times change and the ability of inns and restaurants during covid has adversely affected their ability yo stay afloat. Perhaps that has affected our favorite inn.

Coral W.

Yelp
Inn at 835 made my short visit to Springfield much much more exciting! If you are not a fan of generic, corporate chain hotels, Inn at 835 would be your thing! We stayed here only for one night, but felt like we should have stayed for another night!! First of all, the historic building itself is attractive. It is beautifully decorated overall, let alone the individual guest rooms. We stayed at the Lily Room, which was just gorgeous. We just love the way the room is decorated, especially with a nice personal and homely touch. (Imaging you are staying at a hotel room that just makes you feel like home!) Second, great hospitality! We checked into the hotel in the late afternoon and was immediately welcomed by the staff. We were promptly brought to our room. Now we are still in the pandemic, so it is a shame that we could only get a continental breakfast prepared in advance and put in the shared fridge. (I have read so many great reviews on how good the breakfast was made by Melissa. :) ) But the continental breakfast we got the next day was still good! We decided what we wanted to have based on the breakfast list when we checked in. We could get as many items as we want from the list, including bagels, scones, macaroons, Danish, muffins, etc. There are also milk, juice, yogurt to choose. We brought our breakfast back to our beautiful room and we still had a great time! :) Last but not the least, the jacuzzi in our room!! Get a room with a jacuzzi to enhance your stay!! If it was not because we were following a strict itinerary, we would like to stay another night and spend more time feeling this beautiful hotel more!! We definitely will come back to Inn 835 next time when we stop by Springfield!!

Amy L.

Yelp
Our first experience at a B&B! I finally get it! Just being in the atmosphere of an old, but nice, house, dappled sunlight coming in through huge oak trees into third floor windows; creaky stairs; beautiful, lovingly chosen wooden furniture; a claw foot bathtub; the hottest shower with the best water pressure I've ever experienced; other rooms doors open to peek into, just like you're a guest in a friend's or old relative's house... not a smelly old anonymous hotel. As far as service went, it was alright... The checkin was efficient and straightforward; we were told about the restaurants that were open, asked when we'd like breakfast, told the bottled water in the room was included, etc. Breakfast was okay. They made an effort to provide vegetarian foods, but there were hard cubes of ham in the microwaved, store-bought crusted quiche, and the potatoes were fried in bacon grease. We also got juice and tea and raisin toast and could've had coffee. I felt like the house isn't being loved enough anymore, like the staff don't care.. Maybe they need a raise! The entrance was full of dead crickets, and there was a thick layer of dust on the windowsill in the room. The staff all seem to smoke - it was hard to listen when one woman's breath from it was so bad. When we came back from dinner the whole house reeked of weed. (I understand that the other guests were likely responsible, but I felt uncomfortable and worried a bit about fire.) When we stood in the empty entrance wondering if we could just leave the keys in the basket at check out, there was a staff member just around the corner in the little room but she didn't bother to come out and let us know or say goodbye. We'd like to stay again if we get the chance, but Springfield doesn't seem to have much to offer... unless you're an Abe Lincoln freak.

Amyra R.

Yelp
This place was outstanding!!! Felt burned out with all the tension going on everywhere and needed to go somewhere peaceful to rejuvenate and this place was definitely the answer! Melissa and her staff were very hospitable and caring. They dropped off warm fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and a little weather report for the next day every evening. No other hotel I've been to ever took care of their guests like this. My room was gorgeous and clean. Took full advantage of the huge jetted tub/whirlpool in my room, which relieved a lot of tension in my back. And breakfast was delicious every single day! So grateful for this place and will definitely come back!!

Danette H.

Yelp
We hosted my husbands Farewell and Retirement Dinner here and they exceeded our expectations ion every way. Melisa and Claire at the front desk were kind, responsive, very hospitable and professional. Breakfast was scrumptious. The quiche was fresh, the sides were warm and cooked just right. We were a large group and Claire was always there with coffee, juice, water - whatever we needed. The rooms are decorated authentically and very comfortable. Everyone's room was different and the amenities were just right, We all hung out until the wee hours of the morning both nights. It was so comfortable in the parlor and on the porches. No need to leave! The catering and sales staff NAILED it on our wants and needs. The Inn At 835 will always be remembered as where he closed out his great military career with wonderful memories of a great location with our friends and family. Unforgettable! Thank you!!!

Joan P.

Yelp
Gorgeous place! This is an historic building, originally an apartment building. We stayed in the Gladiolus Suite, which is very much as it was originally. (Sadly, the weather meant we couldn't enjoy the verandah.) Because of COVID, they cannot serve a hot breakfast, but there are plenty of options and your choices are left in a communal fridge to pick up in the morning. The staff was friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable, and we had a large sitting room as well. The location is close (although not walking distance) from the historic center of Springfield. I used to go to Springfield regularly for professional conferences, and of course stayed at a corporate-style hotel. It was delightful to be in a unique historic property. I would definitely book here again.

J. D.

Yelp
Spent the night in Springfield and on the reccomendation of someone decided to stay here vs a traditional hotel. Best deciosn possible. Booked the Wisteria suite and had a great time. The suite has everything a couple needs for a great getaway. The food was excellent and the location alowed the opportunity to walk downtown and enjoy several brewereis and restaurants. This is the preferred place to stay if in town.

Meroe L.

Yelp
Perhaps if you are getting away for a romantic holiday, the Inn at 835 would be charming or rustic. However, if one is in Springfield for business travel this is not the accommodations that I would recommend for anyone. There's no desk in the room to work at. The guest is forced to come down to the breakfast room to work on one's laptop on less than adequately large table after first disposing of the breakfast ware and putting up with constant Internet dropages in order to try to get some work done. Of course none of the staff at the hotel wear masks during a pandemic, so if one cares about one's own health and wears a mask while working at the ridiculously small breakfast table, then one can't also wear their glasses which makes the work very hard. Again, very lovely for a holiday but wholly inadequate for a modern businesstraveller.

Eric I.

Yelp
We stayed one night here and it was pretty enjoyable. We were greeted and given a tour of both the Inn and our room. Wine and cheese was served by the fireplace between 5 and 7 pm which was nice. I would have given it 5 stars but we were a little disappointed in the breakfast. It was good, but not as good as many of the B&B's we have stayed in. We did like that it was located downtown so we were close to Lincoln home, Lincoln presidential library and the Frank Lloyd Wright house.

Barbara S.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this historic inn. The interior is beautiful and filled with period (early 1900s) pieces. The wooden staircase is gorgeous. We were personally escorted to our room and shown the breakfast area, ice machine, parlor were. They have a room where they have games and DVDs available for guest to use. They also have beverages and snacks available on the honor system. Our room was not large, but not cramped. The bed was really comfy. I loved the claw foot tub ( with shower) We did hear trains, as the Inn is just a few blocks from the tracks. But, they were not disruptive. Breakfast was homemade and satisfying. The Innkeepers were friendly and gave some good suggestions for places to eat and things to do. Our only regret was that we were only able to spend one night. We're already trying to plan a return trip!

Ashley C.

Yelp
I rounded up to 3 stars. I really, really, REALLY wanted to give this place 4.5-5 stars - this place has great potential. My boyfriend had to go down for business so we decided to make a little trip of it. Inn at 835 looked perfect: reasonable price and yet romantic. They were even able to accommodate our late arrival. The decor is quite neat and the building itself has a lot of history. We stayed in the Dahlia Room which was gorgeous - felt very homey without being so "frilly" that the boyfriend cringes. I loved all of the small touches: the little baskets of Oh-So-Yummy cookies waiting for when you checked it, the personalized welcome note, and the paper weather report. [Note: the building is historical so it is creaky and be prepared to sometimes hear your neighbors.] The staff - everyone - was really friendly and helpful in suggesting restaurants and getting around in the area. The breakfast part was the Chef's special: bacon, eggs, and biscuits and gravy. I am not always a big fan of the biscuits and gravy but it was homemade and SO tasty. What knocks this place down: we both found the bed to be SO uncomfortable and WAY too firm. I tossed and turned all night and neither of us got a good nights sleep. The pillows and the sheets were mediocre - I would have expected softer sheets. This is a bed & breakfast joint - it is supposed to be comfortable. Normally - that would give the place an automatic 1-2 stars, but I am rounding up because everything else was fantastic. And I REALLY wanted it to be awesome, but because of our sleep in that bed, I don't think we would go back anytime soon (and at least without inquiring about the beds).

Sandy S.

Yelp
Love this place, such an upgrade from an ordinary hotel stay. Clean, quiet..friendly staff. Wine and cheese welcome, chocolate chip cookies at bedtime...homemade breakfast. This was my 4th stay and I certainly plan to return.

Yelp
I wish I could give this property a better review. This is a hard time for everyone and I like to support locally-owned businesses. While I can imagine that some people would appreciate the charm of this converted historic apartment building, staying here is a quirky experience. If you're looking for straightforward comfort and convenience, one of the many local chain hotels might be a better choice. Staying here feels more like staying in a nice rooming house than it does staying in a luxury inn or hotel. The public spaces have a variety of tiny tables and knickknacks tucked into the corners, there are shelves of dusty hardcovers books and board games on the sideboards and build-in cabinets, the furnishings are twee but a bit worn. None of the rooms have mini-fridges, not even the suites. There's a shared guest fridge on the third floor of the main building, and an ice maker located two floors down next to the kitchen. If you're staying in an outbuilding, you can exit the main house via the back door, but you cannot enter from that same door; you need to walk around to the side stairs. The keys and locks are unreliable. (When I mentioned this to the manager, she told me that I was using them wrong. When my husband mentioned it to her, she told him she'd call a locksmith.) None of these issues means that this is a terrible hotel and no one should stay here. If you have lots of time, and part of the fun of your trip is experiencing local color and staying in a historic property, staying here could be a lot of fun, especially if you want to utilize the public spaces in the hotel to play board games or read in the library. But if your primary purpose in booking a hotel is to have as much comfort and convenience as possible at the best price, and you're not much interested in hanging out onsite or navigating the weird rabbit warren of front stairs and back halls, I would just pick a chain hotel and stay there.

Katherine G.

Yelp
Loved the wine and cheese hour and warm, delicious cookies in the room in the evening. Included breakfast was delicious as well!

Ken J.

Yelp
Acknowledging that this is an old hotel, which has it's own quirkiness - our stay here was amazing. Wonderful general manager and staff. From chocolate chip cookies to wine and cheese to making sure we were comfortable to an amazing breakfast. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Springfield. If you need a modern hotel - stay there. If you want a unique and amazing experience- stay here. We will every time we come.

Beth K.

Yelp
I liked this place. It's in the historic district and within walking distance of plenty of interesting sites and restaurants. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the hot breakfast served daily was great. The only complaints I have are that a few basic amenities were missing. For instance, there were no napkins or paper towels of any kind in the room, so if I dribbled water or coffee the only way to wipe it up was with Kleenex. It was also lacking of flat surfaces on which to place things such as my laptop. Granted, I had the smallest and least expensive room, but the price difference was not appreciable enough to justify these lackings. Also, there was a nice veranda, but it was shared with another room and in my case my neighbors always seemed to be out there, or have their screen door open as though they owned it, so I did not feel it was particularly welcoming. Other than these things it's a nice place to stay.

Candice R.

Yelp
Originally from Springfield, I visit the area occasionally with my husband. This was our second stay at the Inn. Five stars and highly recommend. This time we got room 302. Great room! The fresh made breakfast is always very tasty. The people are super nice and take a lot of pride in their establishment. There was a wedding party staying at the inn the same night we did. The staff gave us a heads up that it might be loud, but it was not at all. And the fresh baked cookies hanging in a basket on the door when we came back from dinner was the perfect end to the evening. We will definitely return and probably next time stay 2 or 3 nights. We love it!!!

Keith W.

Yelp
If you on thinking about staying here, do it! We had an amazing experience here. We book a room for a night away from the kids and it was such a great night. First the staff is so nice and helpful. It's really the little touches that makes this place special. There was cookie in a basket hung on our door when we got back from dinner, the wine tasting before dinner and the high end soaps we all a wonderful addition. The bed was conferable and the sitting on the deck out side of our room was a blast. I can not say enough good things about this place.

Chrissy W.

Yelp
This is our first time staying in a bnb and we loved it! Staff was awesome! Allison checked us in, have history of the house, showed us to our room, which was the Dahlia room, and gave us a tour of the other rooms! When we got back to our room, fresh baked cookies were waiting for us! Our bed was firm, sheets crisp and I slept like a baby! Lovely rooms and great service! We will be back to stay again and try other rooms!! Only down fall was the trains but it's not the inns fault on that one lol

Yelp
Loved this place, it hits everything I dig: independent owners, historic preservation and adaptive reuse, plus support for the local economy. Warmly greeted when we arrived, we were quickly given a key to our room. We mentioned that we were going to Obed & Isaac's for dinner and beers and were offered a card for free dessert. Yes! A quick tour of this vintage apartment building turned Inn revealed lots of charming touches. A stocked fridge and snack shelf offered late night drinks and treats on the honor system. Yes! We got a room with a veranda which was enjoyable even on a chilly night. Did I mention fresh baked cookies were waiting on the bed stand? Yes! Learned there was hot breakfast served in the morning until 10... the day's special was eggs benedict with a plate of home-fried potatoes. Yes! Every room is unique and I'm sure you'll like all of them. The building is historic and wonderfully rehabbed. There's wifi - honestly, what other modern convenience do you need when you're traveling? I can't imagine why anyone would want to stay at a bland corporate hotel in downtown Springfield when this place is just blocks away and owned by a couple with roots in the community. Do the right thing: put your money in the hands of the local economy when you travel. You'll be warmly rewarded when you stay at Inn at 835.

Yelp
We went here last July for our one year anniversary and I just booked the trip to go back for our two year. We both absolutely adore this place. We stayed in the Wisteria Sweet located in the Bell House. The Bell House only has 2 suites so it is more private than the main house. Although we were still able to hear the couple in the next suite having sex, but I'm sure they heard us too. The room is beautiful with deep blue walls, an oak headboard, marble and mahogany fireplace, and double jacuzzi tub. Its not like many bed and breakfasts where everything is flowery and covered in doilies. This place is just gorgeous. The staff was so sweet and helpful. They brought us fresh baked cookies (we're talking still warm like they just came out of the oven) and gave us a free bottle of champagne and strawberries. They made light, but filling and delicious breakfasts. And they also were always around to recommend restaurants or places to visit. They'll even pick you up from the train station if you don't want to walk the 8 blocks. I have to admit that we were a little worried about leaving Chicago to go to a smaller place like Springfield since we are a same-sex couple, but we were treated very well by the staff of the inn as well as not having any kind of problems at all in the town. On top of it all you just can't beat the price! The first time we went it was $185 a night, but now the price has gone down to $162. B&Bs are rarely so cheap especially with a beautiful room like the Wisteria Sweet and beautiful grounds in general. This place is highly highly highly recommended for a weekend away.

Yelp
We have recently started having a monthly luncheon meeting at the Inn at 835. From booking the events, to the food quality, and the attentiveness of the staff during the events we have had an excellent experience each time. Our attendees have been very pleased with the choice of the Inn at 835 for our monthly lunches. Give them a call!

Yelp
Stayed in the Lavender Suite for a long weekend getaway and it was perfect! The room was clean and quiet, the staff (especially Melissa) were AWESOME! Truly went above and beyond to make you happy. Even delivered fresh-baked cookies to my door every evening! I will definitely make this an annual trip.

Yelp
I travel to Springfield, IL monthly for business and my office always puts me at one of the chain hotels -- it's comfortable, everything is standard, guaranteed not to surprise. This month literally ALL the hotels in the city were booked, not a room to be had. Springfield is Illinois' capital city and it turned out the lobbyists were all in town. Nevertheless, my office worked miracles and booked me into the "Inn at 835". Surprise! Walking through the Inn's doors is like walking back in time. It's like something out of a novel -- a turn of the century (the old one) mansion and you're the honored guest. Everything has been totally and very comfortably restored. It's furnished in "antique comfortable". Its seriously elegant and for the night, if not the weekend, your's to enjoy. You've been taken back to a time when life was a little more relaxed and the hospitality service was exceptional. The rooms are excellent, you'll be more than comfortable. The staff is friendly and provides above and beyond what you'd expect in a luxury service facility. Still, the real luxury will be your experience. You're encouraged to walk about the property. Yet to be occupied rooms are left door open so it feels more like you're in a home. There is complementary wine and cheese in the parlor, with a lit fireplace, in the evening. Also included is a sit-down (and really complete) breakfast served by the staff in the morning. Its like living in an old novel for a night or, if you're lucky, two. You'll find it less expensive than the standard hotel, especially when you compare the quality of the included food and beverages. My room was complete with quality amenities. They even delivered warm chocolate chip cookies at bedtime. This is really the place you want to stay when in Springfield, IL. Instead of a corporate cookie cutter hotel, you'll get transported back in time and stay in an elegant mansion. As a stand alone get away destination, this is the place to stay. If you're a business man used to the national chain hotels, do yourself a favor and ask your office to book you into the "Inn at 835". It will be the best business trip you've taken.

Yelp
We stayed in the Poppy Room on a hot August weekend. The bed part of this bed and breakfast is lovely - clean rooms that aren't took froofy. Nice closet space, a full sized ironing board, and a great bathroom. The honor bar on the third floor is stocked with bargain goodies (apples, chips, soda, beer, bottled water, and popcorn.) There are board games and DVDs as well. On a hot, hot weekend, the temperature in the room was refreshingly cool. As others have mentioned, the fresh baked cookies in a basket on the door knob, along with a little slip of paper with a weather update for the next day, are a really nice touch. Location is fantastic - walking distance to the Lincoln museum, and the innkeeper tipped us off to a bus so we could get to the State Fair without driving. The sheets on the bed were rougher than I'm used to, and it night be a good idea to make sure you know where all the light switches are and how to work the (super sweet) jaccuzi tub when the innkeeper first shows you the room. I didn't check the tub until I wanted a bath at 10 pm, and I had trouble closing the drain. The breakfast disappointed us. It was a sit-down affair, but the food wasn't anything spectacular. It is "chef's choice," so there aren't options you might find at some B&Bs (there were packets of oatmeal and individual boxes of kellog's cereal, but no milk or bowls visible.) If we were there again, I might skip the inn's breakfast and try a bakery or breakfast counter.

Yelp
Great boutique hotel close to Lincoln's home and the Dana Thomas house. There were three of us and we stayed in one of the 2 bedroom suites, with a private balcony. A full breakfast is provided (omelet, scrambled eggs), wine & cheese from 5-7, and cookies on your door at night. The wine & cheese reception was a nice way to meet others and find out what they had discovered about Springfield. I would stay there again.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were in town for a wedding and stayed here for the weekend. I cannot recommend staying here enough! It was so cozy and Allison was so welcoming. The room was beautiful and clean and there were even cookies waiting for us at the end of each day! Allison made breakfast both mornings we were there and it was delicious. Some of the best pancakes I've had in a while. Will be back if I'm ever in Springfield again!

Yelp
What a great find! Very nice inn with many beautiful rooms or suites in a perfect location. Walk to Gov Mansion, Lincoln's home, etc. Great restaurants not far away. A lovely hot breakfast is included, as is wine and cheese at 5 pm! Really recommend. You wont be disappointed.

Yelp
Great place to stay. Staff is wonderful. Close to Lincoln museum and Frank Lloyd Wright house. Both worth the trip

Yelp
We thoroughly loved staying at the Inn at 835. You feel like you are walking into a different era when you enter the hotel. Gorgeous period pieces are found through out the hotel yet everything is up to date and all the amenities we expect at hotels are there. We were in town for a wedding which was held at our hotel and we thought it would be fun to stay there. The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. When we returned to our room at the end of the evening we were greeted by a basket of warm chocolate chip cookies sitting on our bed!!! The best!! Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed chatting with our server. I would definite stay there again if ever in Springfield!

Yelp
This B&B was one of the suggestions from the American Express Concierge and it was a great find. The drive into town and the neighborhood was a little concerning at first but we felt completely safe once we got to the Inn. The location is very close to all of the Abe Lincoln sites that we wanted to visit (except his tomb) . The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the Hydrangea room which was really nice, spacious and comfortable. The jacuzzi bathtub/shower, however, was VERY difficult to get in and out of. The room appointments and amenities were very good. Every evening they serve complimentary wine and cheese. Each morning is a full delicious breakfast. There are also homemade cookies delivered to your room in the late afternoon. I would recommend this B&B in a heartbeat.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised at the charm and great condition of this 1905 building. Period furniture and decor were consistent throughout the inn and it is was very clean. Service was 1st class from the fresh chocolate chip cookies delivered to my room, to the wonderful breakfast served made to order. I would highly recomend for an individual or couple very satisfied.

Yelp
Hub and i enjoyed a spontaneous overnight in Springfield, il. Did a little research and found the Inn at 835. It is a beautiful bed and breakfast. We stayed in the Magnolia Room which was very cozy and well dressed with a keurig, giant closet, claw foot tub, plenty of towels, very comfy queen bed. The inn keeper greeted us warmly upon arrival and gave us a tour. She set up complementary wine and cheese at 5pm. Adjacent to the inn is a banquet room where there happen to be a 1950s sock hop that night. It was spontaneous fun!! A full breakfast of eggs benedict, breakfast potatoes, fruit, juice and coffee the following morning. Oh did i mention that hanging on our door knob upon return from the dance was a small basket of freshly made choco chunk cookies and the weather forcast for the following day. We had a really wonderful time at the Inn at 835!

Yelp
21 members of my family stayed in 10 of the 11 rooms over two nights and the staff, rooms, location and breakfasts were just ideal! We also hosted a reception and they went out of their way to accommodate us in every way including a couple food allergies. BRAVO

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a quick getaway weekend. We have children that take up all of our weekends. We realized the Tuesday before we would be free, so I began looking for a getaway not too far from Chicago but free of the hassle of Chicago. I googled bed and breakfast in Illinois and found Inn at 835. After reading reviews I booked a weekend. When we got there we were greeted by staff I can't remember her name but she was very nice. She explained how breakfast works and sd that their were many options including turkey products which I was happy with because I don't eat pork. She also said I just turned the air on in your room about an hour ago because it was warm in there. We get to room 601 and its burning up in there, 83° to be exact. My wife and I are thinking it will get cooler. WELL IT DIDN'T. We complained to the clerk. She came back few hours later and played with the thermostat it didn't help. She sd we are full tonight but we will get you in a new room tomorrow. We sweated the whole night. Very uncomfortable!!! The next day my wife and I went to breakfast in town (because guess what??? They only serve pork products). We come back and clerk says we had someone fix the air in your room. We go in its still 82° but we're thinking give it some time. It did not cool off in the room. We went to dinner, came back 80°. We call front desk. We were told the manager Nick would call us. He never did. He was aware the whole time of our issue with the air conditioning and never once called us our came to the room to even apologize. We again went to bed sweating. When we checked out the next day I asked for Nick. He was there but was unavailable, he refused to come to The front desk. The clerk at that time was Liz. She was very nice and apologetic and sd she could give a 10% discount which is around $35. She sd that's all we can do but we will definitely speak with our corporate office because I heard about your issue and we know it was hot in there and I'm sure they will credit you some money back for the inconvenience. Give us a week and we will have it resolved. I received the 10% within 2 days. A week passed and no call bck regarding refund. I let a few days pass and called them. Spoke with Liz and was told still working on it. I made at least 4 more calls between beginning of May thru the 17th speaking with Liz and Melissa who is now the new manager because Nick no longer works as manager. I received a voice mail today May 21st from Melissa saying her corporate officer has made a decision that there's no other credits or anything that they plan to do for (and this is exactly what Melissa sd "for the SMALL INCONVENIENCE of no air conditioning). Can you believe that it was considered a small inconvenience??? I have never rated anyplace this badly. I will NEVER go here again. Nor will I recommend to any of my friends and family. How can a place that you pay money to and expect a comfortable stay not own up to having shoddy air conditioning and then downplay their fault in the incident. If anyone is booking with this entity please beware room 601. The only reason I give 2 stars is because of Liz and the initial person who checked us in. They were very nice and kind. Oh, and the chocolate chip cookies were good.

Yelp
Our stay here was over Holiday weekend and staff was very pleasant. Their location is excellent, a short walk to Capitol or cab ride to other historic sights. The room was nicely appointed with claw foot tub and flat screen TV and we liked option of ceiling fan or A/C. They offered social 'wine hour' and it's tastefully presented in main floor salon area - overall we enjoyed stay alot !

Yelp
I would give 835 a 3.5 actually. It is a bit pricey. We had a nice suite with a fire place and nicely appointed, but the carpet was stained and we could hear the couple next door using the jacuzzi next door at all hours of the evening (almost wish I had been invited to join in). The breakfast was Eggs Benedict, which are my favorite, but they were just okay (weak hollandaise sauce). The staff could not have been nicer. I would give this another shot. They have DSL rather than WiFi , but they do provide a cable.

Yelp
A terrific place to stay. Lovely rooms, great breakfast, and lots of nice touches like the fresh cookies and wine & cheese.

Yelp
I recently booked a room and was very impressed with their customer service. They really go out of their way to make sure their customers are satisfied. It was a mid-week reservation for an overnight business trip. All the other hotels were booked solid and I took a chance with the Inn at 835, since I had never stayed there before. Very glad I did! What a nice change from the large cookie-cutter national chains. Our farm organization has a number of events in Springfield each year and I hope to do more business with the Inn soon.

Yelp
The inn appeared to have lost its shine. It was clean and comfortable, however most of the main house was dark with lights off, and lacking personality and character, bordering on slight neglect. We stayed in the detached cottage in the Lavender Room. The room was clean, but the decor was inconsistent with the inn and just seemed out of place. The free wifi is not accessible from the cottage. The breakfast was tasty and filling and the service overall was average (breakfast service was friendly). It is walking distance from most of the Abe Lincoln sites as well as some decent options for food. The trains can be heard from the Inn.
