I had my friend's wedding last weekend and unfortunately there were no available rooms at the Wake Robin Inn, and the Interlaken Inn was $300/night, with a 2 night minimum. $248 for a room at the Inn at Iron Masters was much more than I was looking to spend for what it had to offer but there didn't seem to be a more cost effective option within close proximity to the wedding. Well, I shouldn't have been so quick to assume a hotel room would have been better than none, sleeping in our car would have proved to have been the better option. The front desk personnel wasn't the least bit welcoming or friendly. We had checked in just prior to heading out for a wedding and by the end of the wedding we came into the room just looking to go to sleep. It wasn't until we awoke, turned on the lights and attempted to use anything in the room did I realize how unbelievably filthy the room was. I was first awoke by a drippy faucet in the shower and when I peered behind the shower curtain I came to find still water sitting in the bottom of the tub. If it wasn't for a long drive home on a hot summer day, I would have skipped taking the shower because it pained me to use a shower that had still water. After my shower, I decided to make a quick cup of coffee before heading out. All the lights weren't on in the room when I attempted to reach for the packet of coffee grounds nestled next to the coffeemaker, however, my hand was met by a vast amount of cobwebs and spider webs. I turned on the room lights and was beside myself, a huge buildup of spider webs and cobwebs covering something you are meant to drink is quite disconcerting, was as if no one had used or more importantly cleaned around the coffeemaker in months as I don't know how else that would be possible. I mentioned to my wedding date I was missing an earring and he quickly thought he spot it on the rug, my enthusiasm that the earing had been recovered so quickly was met with disgust as I quickly realized it was a gold vitamin/pill which had been left behind by a past guest - quite an excellent vacuum job done in our room as there were also trident gum wrappers left by the fridge. At this point, we grabbed all our things as my skin felt like a family of spiders may emerge from the web, never mind the thoughts I began to have regarding the unlikely cleanliness of the rug and bed sheets. We made our way to the front desk, which was an even more enjoyable experience than the day before as the woman looked miserable, not sure she could have forced a smile if we had made a joke. Perhaps her lack of enthusiasm or desire to be friendly was due to always being met with unhappy customers because she didn't seem surprised, concerned or the least bit sympathetic to our how unhappy we were with our stay. We explained still water in the shower, debris from past customers and the mass of spider webs surrounding the coffee station in our room. Her reply was "oh well we have coffee here in the lobby" as if to suggest the problem was solved, as we wanted coffee and here is coffee. Welp, she totally missed the boat on apologizing for the inconvenience, the lack of cleanliness and ultimately severely not meeting our expectations. She made no effort to try and alter our opinion of this place as when we asked for a pricing consideration due to how displeased we were she responded with the inability for her to do anything and that she would leave a note for the manager. Despite photos I have taken, the lady also explained that the manager inspects every room every day after housekeeping has made their rounds. HA! The remark that the managers inspects every room every day is absurd - I wasn't about to give that an ounce of thought as there is no way that happens and if it does she is just as careless in checking their work as they are in cleaning. Those cobwebs are from months. This was Sunday morning, the manager has yet to reach out and I am sure never will - what a way to run a business. The owner has so eloquently responded to reviews stating that this "Inn" meets the standard definition - "accommodations offering a room and food, often to the traveler"- and if this is truly all they are striving for - to offer a room and food - then perhaps they have done just that - don't expect a clean room or food/drink actually meant for consumption. Instead of combating negative reviews on this site, the owner should listen to what people have to say to make this Inn a place that people enjoy to stay at, yes - a few people seem to have had a remarkable experience but the vast majority have had just the opposite. The lack of concern for good customer service is only further supported by becoming defensive versus trying to make a wrong a right. Oh by the way, AAA discount not accepted on Friday and Saturdays, only hotel, inn, motel or whatever they want to call themselves that I have come across to not accept AAA on a weekend.
