Inn at Occidental, Occidental, Sonoma, California - Explore & Book

"Sonoma County is one of our favourite places in California. We love it for its laid-back gourmet lifestyle and bucolic environs. But we had not explored Occidental before. An atmospheric autumnal journey through fog-wreathed redwoods brought us along the aptly-named Bohemian Highway into this quaint town of clapboard-cute buildings. Occidental was founded during the logging boom of the 1870s and the Inn at Occidental dates from the town's earliest years. First a family home then a bottling company and shopfront, it is now a welcoming old-fashioned inn styled with vintage games, heirlooms and folk art. Local photographs and paintings hang throughout. The colourful living room has a big fireplace and 1870s parquet flooring; the original cellar is now the kitchen and breakfast room, which has an adjacent patio for delicious alfresco breakfasts. Read the paper on the wraparound front veranda with morning coffee; relax with a book in the English courtyard garden complete with fountain and 22 species of roses. With 16 playfully themed rooms and suites, plus a 2-bedroomed self-catering cottage, you'll find accommodation to suit, whether for a private romantic getaway or with the whole family. Tempting though it is to curl up in front of your fireplace or soak in your spa bath, there's so much to do on the doorstep: Matt, Vicky and their team are eager to share their insider knowledge on the delights of Wine Country. Highs We loved the cosy, convivial feel: there's a help-yourself tea and coffee station, plus plenty of books and games, and complimentary wine on offer from time to time A great location: off the beaten track, yet within 15 minutes' drive of the coast, wineries, gourmet restaurants, spas - plus canoeing, hiking, riding and ballooning Luxurious rooms boast Frette linens, Aveda toiletries, romantic fireplaces; all but 4 have spa baths complete with rubber duckies We appreciated the extra decorative touches: handmade quilts, colourful artwork and quirky memorabilia, from vintage pinball machines to Humpty Dumpty dolls Helpful, friendly staff led by owners Matt and Vicky, who can point you in any direction you need Lows Only breakfast is served, but there are several restaurants within walking distance and a wider choice within a 10-minute drive Not for lovers of contemporary muted minimalism; the Inn is a cornucopia of objets and whimsy Rooms are being given small facelifts as the owners (new in 2024) work their way through them: some photos may differ slightly from the reality Bear in mind that there is no pool or gym" - Nadine Mellor

This is a gorgeous place and I will for sure be back. Love that each room has a unique look, most have a cozy private balcony overlooking the town and trees, a huge bath to soak in, robes, fire place... everything was exactly what I wanted. Only regret is I did not get to partake of the wine bar but that was due to a wedding reception taking place during that time, so it didn't feel right to interrupt the staff. 10/10 recommend. Oh and the bread pudding served with breakfast was really delicious.

What a wonderful three night stay! The room was freshly painted, the sheets were so crisp and comfy. The mattress was delightful for a long night sleep. The people who clean these rooms are experts it was immaculate something I truly appreciate. The Inn is lovely. I love their 4pm to 7 pm wine bar. The location is absolutely wonderful. You can get to many other little towns no more than 15 to 20 minutes from here. There’s plenty of restaurants and coffee and art stores. The owners are lovely and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was wonderful I had bought the spa package and it didn’t have the salt baths. The owner actually went downtown and bought me some and brought it up. I really can’t say enough about this wonderful 4 day vacation we had at the Inn at Occidental⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We will definitely be returning soon for another relaxing, rejuvenating and calming long weekend. My husband and I looked at each other when we got home the next morning and said that was the most restful tranquil mini vacation we’ve taken in a very long time. *if I have to give one piece of advice to the owners is the breakfast is wonderful but after you’ve stayed there a few days, it would be nice to have a little more variety.

Our room was lovely, with an intriguing circus decor. All of our Wi-Fi connections worked fine. The landlady very kindly carted luggage up and down the stairs, and also the very tasty breakfasts. She made several suggestions on places for us to visit. |I do feel obligated to mention that hiking up the stairs after dinner was a challenge. The room did have a flashlight, but carrying a flashlight along with a purse and cane was a challenge. There was a tube that evidently held reflective disks which worked in the morning light, but did nothing at 10:00 p.m.

The Inn is located in a quaint town of Occidental. It’s under new ownership who appear to be trying make a go of it. However, that said, they need to step up their game in a couple of areas. One, the breakfast was awful. Two pieces of bacon and scrambled eggs without toast, potatoes, fruit or anything. Not near inn worthy. Second, if you advertise your also have a wine bar, have someone there to serve it. The owners seemed busy elsewhere. Third, maybe in the room, especially if it’s someone’s birthday is to provide a small bottle of wine in lieu of a cheap card. Or even a welcoming glass of wine? Just seemed “cheap”. It’s a nice place, nice rooms, nice garden out front, but the customer service little things bring people back. Oh, make sure coffee is available early if it’s not provided in the room. Had to drive 8 miles for morning coffee.

Google
The Inn at Occidental is cozy B & B and we enjoyed our one night Sunday PM stay. They have a wide variety of eclectic rooms which you can choose from online. We didn’t connect with the Innkeeper, our only service experience was at breakfast and the chef/server was excellent as was the broad food offerings included. We recommend the Inn for a quaint quite mellow getaway 😎

Google
The Inn at Occidental is a charming place The staff was warm and welcoming and the breakfast was delicious. The garden courtyard is inviting and the fountain was nice to hear. The room was spacious and cozy at the same time and it was very quiet at night. I look forward to my next stay there and highly recommend the Inn at Occidental for a getaway.

For our anniversary we stayed at the Inn at Occidental over Memorial Day weekend. Our suite overlooked the garden and included a fireplace and Jacuzzi tub. The included breakfast had many delicious options. There is a sweet little wine bar that had a complimentary wine tasting on Friday evening from a local winery and also offered optional wine tasting every evening. We highly recommend the Inn at Occidental for a quiet getaway that’s still within a short drive to Bodega Bay, Sebastopol and Monte Rio.

This review is long over due. This was our 4th time to the Inn thru the years. The new inn keepers were super friendly and so was the staff. My husband and I stayed a few nights over Valentine's weekend 2025. We loved the hosted dinner by the Inn. The food was by Chef Chris Evans and everything was delicious! Chris's staff that served were lovely and super excited for all of us to enjoy the delicious flavors/meal. Loved the different wine pairings and the music. Nice to see the new inn keepers are hosting music and food events.

Yelp
This Inn is the definition of cozy. We stayed in the Heritage room and it was insanely cozy. We had a late check in, which the inn was very accommodating towards, and they gave us a little envelope taped on the main door with instructions on how to get the key (just don't be goofy like me and make sure to read both sides of the instructions). The innkeeper was very patient with me when I called late at night asking about the instructions. When we arrived at the room, the fireplace was on and the room was a very nice warm temperature. It was perfect after coming in from the rain. The decor was comforting and the room was clean. We had ordered a charcuterie which they had put in the mini fridge in anticipation for our late arrival. The charcuterie platter was very nicely put together and had a great selection of meats and cheeses. The next morning we had breakfast in the main building. It is a nice continental style breakfast with a decent selection. The main plus was the freshly made scrambled eggs and maple bacon. It was delicious. My one critique is that the ceiling is a little thin so you can hear the murmurs of people talking and waking upstairs. Having said that, would still highly recommend staying here and ordering the charcuterie platter!

Yelp
My wife and I came up for a quick getaway for the weekend and all I can say is what an amazing place with an amazing staff a great breakfast super cozy rooms and just a chill vibe all the way around. I don't know how many times I've passed through Occidental over the years, but I've never spent the night here and it's just a super cozy little town. We can't wait to come back and stay at Matt and Vicky's Inn at Occidental.
google avatar

Yelp
Thank you Matt and Vicky. Your Inn is absolutely fantastic! It's all in the details. You've created your living room and sharing it with the general public and your overnight guests. The baby grand piano is a nice touch. The hutch featuring items for sale is pleasant and not overbearing. Your landscaping in the courtyard is nicely manicured. The main floor public washroom is spotless.

Yelp
Great Hosts! Matt and Vicky Beautiful Inn and dong miss breakfast! Killer Bacon! Wonderful location as well

Yelp
A charming Inn located just steps from the quaint restaurants and shops of Occidental. Cozy room, friendly inn keeper and staff, delicious breakfast (don't skip the maple glazed bacon or house-made granola) wine tasting and a luxurious garden area for relaxing. Also near wineries, and hiking in old growth redwoods. Highly recommend for a staycation, wedding or special occasion.

Yelp
Love this homey feeling Unique Inn. All the staff; Jeremy, Marilyn, Angie and Jen, you will be treated really good. if you can afford, pick the Cut Glass room but check out all other Uniquely designed individual rooms they offer. Continental Breakfast is included, wait for the smoky maple crispy bacon...Yummmm While you're staying there, just walking distance to the shops, restaurants, markets or just stroll along Bohemian Hwy.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE! Will be back for sure! my husband and I decided to getaway at last minute for our birthdays and I ran across the Inn at Occidental and something just tugged at my heart when I saw it so decided to book a room for our overnight. so very happy I did! the room was nice and clean and the fireplace was a good add for heat as it's control by the room's thermostat so you had a fire thru out the night . The breakfast was off the hook! Maple glazed bacon, onion and bacon frittata, bread pudding with caramelize apples, honey and vanilla yogurt, fresh fruit bowls, homemade granola, boiled eggs, croissants, fresh orang juice and coffee and tea. I was blown away by this beautiful and yummy breakfast and our hostess/chef was awesome.. her smile and tentativeness to us and the other guests was a solid 10! never had I had such an amazing experience like I did at the Inn at Occidental! We will be back! thank you for making our birthday stay memorable! huge thank you HUGS!

Yelp
Amazing experience! My friends and I drove to Christmas in the Redwoods, then found ourselves strolling the town of Occidental when we came across the Inn at Occidental. Big foot was waiting for us on the deck and politely welcomed us into the Inn. The Inn was cozy, cute, and full of holiday cheer! We were welcomed by the owner, she was SO kind, and informed us about upcoming events. We plan to come back for a staycation and/or music in the near future! Would highly recommend checking this spot out!

Yelp
The location is great, walking distance to the wonderful restaurants and wine-tasting in Occidental. The Innkeepers and staff are friendly and helpful. Very relaxing, comfortable and lovely. The breakfast was fresh and delicious with house-made granola and the best bacon ever. They have a lovely wine-bar and outdoor patio. A wonderful place for a quick getaway! It would be a great place for a small wedding or special occasion, too.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the inn a couple of weekends ago. We absolutely fell in love with the place. The rooms were nice and clean with a spectacular view. The breakfast was just perfect (loved the maple bacon). The inn keepers were so kind and helpful. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
We've been here 2x, actually both times for our anniversary, and it does not disappoint. Both times we stayed in Courtyard rooms, they were clean and nice, with a big tub and fire place. Not incredibly fancy but totally worthwhile with a comfy bed. I don't remember where we stayed the first time, but our most recent trip in May we stayed in the Kitchen Cupboard Room. I saw other reviewers complain about the TV, we didn't watch TV but it is kind of small like a computer monitor so just be aware of that. I wish we understood how the fireplace worked, but we arrived late so didn't have anyone to ask. We called ahead to let them know we were coming late, they left a note for us and a key in the lockbox, super easy. The breakfast was available in Covid 19 friendly containers (fruit, hardboiled egg, scones, croissant, yogurt parfait with granola) and the coffee was tasty. Went back to get more after breakfast closing and they were very accommodating. The volunteer fire alarm did go off 2x the night we were there, but they warned us in the welcome letter so no big deal. The restaurants do close really early (8pm-ish) and I know the breakfast place next door gets busy for brunch. We visited the organic nursery up the road at the Ecology Center and got a bunch of plants we haven't seen anywhere else (that, of course, we didn't really need). We also drove out to Freestone and got some delicious Wildflower Bakery breads. There was a line at noon so we waited about 20 min. They had sold out of one loaf while we were in line, but we were still able to buy what we wanted. Also, Osmosis Spa is quite an experience if you have the opportunity to try it out. And there are a ton of wineries nearby.

Yelp
Really Nice helpful staff, beautiful building beautiful scenery what more can you ask for! just a short walk to downtown occidental! highly recommend

Yelp
Occidental Looks can be deceiving and pics only capture a moment of time, soon after everything captured in that image returns to its normal state, therefore captivating the viewer for a small space of time. -Paly Nova! But if you look closer you find flaws. Disappointed in the amount of $ spent for 1 night ($324) when I realized the condition of the overall room. Spider webs, dusty, someone's hair on the sheets when the blankets were pulled back, walls were dirty, dust behind the bed. We stayed in the main house, after being told when my wife called the night before that there was "Plenty of openings darling," only to find that room 7 (Quilt), was the last room available! Woken up in the middle of the night due to the old bed we slept on. It's obvious this mattress hasn't been replaced.....in years. The tv was the size of a standard computer monitor. I don't wear prescription glasses but after having watched the tv at the distance from where we were on the bed, I'll probably need some now. There's other places in the area. Just maybe overlook this place first. This is one of those (last resort) places if you ask me! Yelp flagged me before I left this post: Remember times may be hard on all businesses due to Covid-19, if that's the case you should be stepping your game up cus' everyone is competing to stay open and not go bankrupt. You can do better!!! Paly,

Yelp
Loved it. The owner let us redeem our long-expired Travelzoo vouchers purchased in 2020 (and after rescheduling multiple times due to various problems.) Great staff, great service. Breakfast is continental, but some very tasty options (maple-glazed bacon, good croissants/scones, etc.) An overall charming and enjoyable place.

Yelp
I drove here the day before my friends funeral so I felt rested and able to give my eulogy. Room 1 is super old and outdated. I was woke up late night by late check in fumbling at the door and early am by showers in others room, the public bathroom attached to my room, etc. The bed was creaky, soft and old. I wish I stayed home, got a good nights sleep and arrived rested. This was supposed to be a nice posh Inn but it feels like a hostel. That has not been my experience...

Yelp
It was almost 26 years ago we got married at the inn at Occidental. It was a beautiful and romantic place for our runaway wedding. We were surprised by our best friends and our daughter. The setting is beautiful and comfortable, the rooms were very ice and comfortable. It was perfect and it's time to revisit.

Yelp
Phenomenal stay at the inn at occidental! Marilyn is the best, so hospitable and kind, she upgraded us the day of, accommodated our pup, and provided great advice for dinner in the area. Rooms are clean and spacious, great location overall. 10/10 recommend staying here!!

Elle J.

Yelp
This place way surpassed our expectations! Jerome, the manager is fabulous and attended to our every need, helping us with wine glasses, etc! The property and overall ambiance is idyllic and super relaxing amongst giant redwoods! The room itself was large with a king size bed that was perfectly comfortable and amazing water pressure in the shower. I just love this place!
google avatar

Caitlin M.

Yelp
Perfect cozy place for a quick getaway! We had one small issue in the room, but Marilyn made up for it in a big way with a future credit. Looks like we'll be able to stay longer next time!

Yelp
I have lived in the bay area for 10 years and have never visited the little town of Occidental. A very quaint and charming town halfway between the water and Sebastapool/Sonoma area. We came here for our babymoon as we booked a package with Mellow Mama and the Inn was a perfect location for that. My 3 of us (husband, pooch, and me) arrived at the Safari room which was decorated, in you guessed it: Safari Theme! Loved the canopy on the king sized bed which made the bed super romantic. I also love a dog friendly stay (they provided water and food bowls for us and an extra sheet to put over the bed if the dog was going to sleep with us. We walked over to Hazel for dinner but all the restaurants are walking distance from the Inn. Loved the cookies and wine cocktail hour and the hot breakfast in the morning was also great. One of my favorite things to do is to relax in a soaking tub and the one in our room did not disappoint. If you are looking for a romantic getaway weekend to unwind, I would definitely recommend the Safari room at the Inn!

Yelp
From the second we stepped into Inn at Occidental I knew I had picked the best place to celebrate my husbands birthday. The excellent service by Marilyn to our gorgeous suite (Cut Glass) we were nothing but impressed. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom accommodating and spacious. The suite had a four person hot tub, believe me, wine and hot tubs are the cure for pretty much anything that's bothering you. The location was perfect and is within walking distance of all the shops and restos Occidental has to offer. It really doesn't get much better than this. Oh, and the chocolate chips cookies made by Chef Joe, what a delight! I wish I had asked for the recipe! By the way, those cookies paired nicely with the 5pm wine tasting in the lobby/living room. Just pull up a seat and get to know some of the other guests. Hint: talking about food and wine experiences can easily connect people. Well, and the wine helps too! We can not wait to visit again!
google avatar

Debra F.

Yelp
My husband and I had great fun at the Inn, and were well taken care of by both Marilyn and Michael, Innkeepers. The Inn is perfectly situated for walking to town and dinner out. The wine hour was generous and breakfast was yum. We were recommended to go to "Hazel Restaurant" and highly recommend that you go, too! Perfect weekend getaway

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights this past weekend. I chose this B&B because I did not see any bad reviews after researching everywhere. When I arrived, I knew I was right. We stayed in Marbles and it was so charming and CLEAN. It was more spacious than expected and we had a nice view of cute courtyard. The bath tub is huge and I really enjoyed soaking after wineries. We got breakfast and 3 different menus every day. Only downsides were that the bed is SOFT..If you like firm mattress like me, you might have trouble but I kind of got used to it the second night. And the wall between Marbles and Ruby is thin....I felt tortured that I had to hear someones intimate noises..I am forever traumatized. The owners and manager were nice. Even though I did not meet them in person (I didn't want to go to the lobby) my husband talked to them a lot and they were very kind and helpful. We visited local wineries and they all spoke highly of them.

Yelp
My husband and I have been coming here since 2016. We absolutely love staying here. Marilyn is great and so helpful with choosing wineries and restaurants. We have stayed in the Safari Room, Kitchen Cupboard Room, and the Folk Art Room. We have enjoyed everyone of them. The rooms are always so cozy and inviting. Each one is decorated according to the theme. They have a CD player if you want to grab some CD's to play. There are phone chargers with USB ports and plug-ins for you and your guest. Each room has a mini fridge and there is free WiFi and parking. Other great amenities include a wine hour from 5-6 in the main area. It's a way to socialize with other guests or sit by the fireplace and listen to some music. There's a library for some reading or games. The bath products are wonderful too. The breakfast is good with a lighter food option if that's your choice. There is a plethora of wineries to choose from in the area as the icing on the cake of why you should choose to stay here. I highly recommend The Inn at Occidental.

Jean C.

Yelp
Hosts very accommodating. Room clean. Everything in good repair, except the TV was a little wonky - but we didn't come there to watch TV! Lovely garden and scenic views. Nicely decorated. Well kept. Attention to detail. Breakfast was good, but would have appreciated less sugar! Nearly every choice was sweet. Also, wine in the evenings was nice, but I would have enjoyed it more with a little fruit and cheese. Great jumping off spot for hiking and short road trips to some beautiful coastal views and redwood groves. Town is quaint. Many of the restaurants and stores are open only on the weekend.

Yelp
After driving through winding country roads we were greeted upon arrival by the two most gracious owners in this Sonoma County area: Tina, who is originally from Hawaii and her husband Jerry Wolsborn, who used to manage high-end hotels such as the Ilikai and St. Francis in SFO. They bought this inn in '03 and have infused it with their special style and unique hospitality. The features of this inn are spacious rooms, daily hot breakfast, maid service and an afternoon wine and cheese hour. Cell phone reception is spotty in this area. but the inn has wi-fi and it's free! To sum it up, this place has comfort, charm and class and is perfect for the wine country traveler. P.s. I hope S.R.'s review wasn't referring to me. Our family stayed in the Sonoma Cottage, a separate unit away from the main inn. A spacious, 2 BR/2Bath rental complete with kitchen, dining and living room. Lots of privacy and great for groups or large families. Sleeps six.

Yelp
Our stay at the Inn at Occidental exceeded our expectations! What made it so was all in the details - from the well maintained and inviting front garden and patio to the interior sitting area where there is a cookie jar (filled with fresh baked sugar cookies) and coffee and tea available to guests all day, books to peruse, music, Scrabble and Chess board, art/ antiques placed just so to add to its ambience of comfort like you were in someone's cozy home. Then there was our room with its king sized bed and the softest sheets and plushy pillows with the same effect of being in a really nice guest bedroom. Our room was located in the main house and was special because we had the private jacuzzi outside. It was a welcomed extra after our day of Stand up paddling in Tomales Bay. Included the next morning was breakfast in the downstairs dining room, with Eggs Benedict, fruit, granola, yogurt, scones, and very pleasant service. In all, one night made very special because of the details in the B&B! Highly recommend this lovely place!

Yelp
Still holding onto a Groupon is purchased in 2015, this inn just holding my money will not refund. $189.00 since 2015 you think I earn some interest on it lol. Ridiculous well maybe in another 7 yrs I will make my way there. You think they just give me my money back after all this time but sadly NO. Just FYI to all they could easily refunded it,I contacted bank and Groupon both said they had option, they chose not to.Even to this day you would think after holding on to it so long they reach out and realize I can't use it and be human but sadly no they rather reward themselves and keep money they never earned.

Yelp
Highly recommend this quaint Inn that is conveniently located in town where you can walk to the farmers market on Friday evening. Marilyn is the sweetest Inn keeper and made great recommendations like a hike at Bodega Bay Trailhead. We took a short drive to Jenner and had an amazing dinner at Rivers End which I highly recommend. We stayed in the Marbles room which overlooks the garden and has a large tub for two. Bed is comfy too, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the generous happy hour and breakfast. Thank you Marilyn for a great stay. We will definitely be back.

Paula B.

Yelp
We have visited the Inn at Occidental in the past and have had great experiences there. Unfortunately, the room we stayed in is getting old and tired. Spots were half painted inside, worn furniture, dirty handprints on door (that took a few seconds to wipe off with a wipe) etc. Breakfast is no longer being served and most of the restaurants in Occidental were closed during the week, so we had to drive elsewhere- although, we found some good ones in Graton and Jenner, thanks to the recommendations of the gentleman working in the office. The owners really need to put more $ into updating/maintaining their Inn. Disappointed......

Yelp
Wonderful bed & breakfast! A perfect destination for a getaway and is pet-friendly (bonus points). Our entire experience at the Inn, from the initial call to reserve our stay to our check-in, our spacious room, the complimentary wine tasting to a delicious breakfast (included), was exquisite. This inn is a short drive away from Bodega Bay and local wineries, and not too far from home for us. We will surely be back!

Diane M.

Yelp
We had great service, the rooms were nice and the town is welcoming. The surrounding scenery is beautiful.

Yelp
Jerome at check-in was friendly, courteous and helpful. He showed us to our room which looked to have been recently recarpeted and said there would not be a wine hour, but did offer us a bottle of wine to enjoy on the property that evening. The bathroom was well lit, but the shower area was not and there were no hand-rails or grab-bars outside of or inside the shower stall. Cold breakfast was served the first morning, hardboiled eggs, yogurt, and some tired looking croissants. The second morning they did have scrambled eggs. That evening wine hour consisted of a glass of wine, no cheese and crackers as we experienced a year ago. All of the restaurants in Occidental were closed; the market was open so we either had to drive out of town to a restaurant or get sandwiches and snacks at the market. The afternoon/evening proprietress was a bit grumpy and unfriendly the entire time and offered biting remarks/comments and did not seem to care about our experience.

Laurette C.

Yelp
So extremely noisy! Constant footsteps & creaking. You can hear ppl snoring & talking in the adjacent rooms. Everything is just loud. Outside was dirty but rooms are super clean. Checkout is annoying because if no one is there you have to page someone and they just ignore it. So you're standing there forever! Hope they disinfect that phone! They no longer offer a hot breakfast due to covid, but yet they don't lower the price of the room. Just over all annoying and not relaxing. Wouldn't recommend or stay again.

Yelp
What a nice place to stay! We live in Petaluma, got a deal on Travelzoo and I was dying for a break from being stuck and home and missing out in our big vacation due to covid. We stayed in the kitchen room and it was darling! Loved the big tub in the room and it made us to relaxed. Less than 24 hours there and 2 long soaks for the man and me. Bed was super comfy. The breakfast was exceptional! It was bagged up for us to take back to our room and felt gourmet. Would absolutely order it in a restaurant. We found our new quick getaway place.

Yelp
My husband and I have been extremely torn with regards to writing this review-- torn between the moral duty we feel to letting others know about the absolutely best experience in hospitality and comfort of our lives (bar none), and not wanting at all to share this hidden treasure with the masses!! Alas, our sense of duty is high enough that we feel we must tell you: not staying at this inn could be tantamount to giving up what may be one of your most cherished memories in life. Allow me to explain in detail. My husband and I stayed at this inn for our wedding this past April, which was a small affair of only immediate family members (10 people). We were able to purchase the inn's Elopement Package, which included absolutely any and everything we could have dreamed of for our fairytale getaway wedding for the lowest cost we could find anywhere. We were in complete shock at the value delivered for the price tag-- we felt we did not skimp on our wedding in any way; in fact, it felt like a completely lavish, beautiful, and personal affair on each level. At the Inn at Occidental, you will be treated as royalty while feeling you are kicking back and relaxing in your summertime getaway castle. First of all in our wedding package was the constant and completely professional and friendly services of Marilyn, the resident coordinator. She is marvelous in all ways and I would have had a wonderful experience by her mere planning and handling of things alone! She is just the beginning, though. We were able to customize a gourmet cake made from seasonal ingredients, choose an officiant of our affiliation (Pastor Pete was so incredible and personal!!), have an amazing welcome wagon of cheese, wine, and champagne and decadent rooms during our stay, create the loveliest custom bouquet I could dream up, have the services of an incredible professional photographer (the low price could have easily just covered the photographer!), goodness I could go on, but I don't want to ruin all of the surprises! Inn at Occidental really know what they are doing when it comes to hospitality. Every single member of the staff go absolutely above and beyond and out of their ways to make each guest's stay an unforgettable one, and I do not just mean overall, I mean in every single moment that they can. From making sure you have enough homemade cookies and coffee or tea while lounging in the comfy main room, to assuring your complementary breakfast is made to your liking and from a delicious and ever-varying menu, to drawing up hand-written maps of staff member personal favorites when it comes to wine-tasting routes, scenic drives, or redwood-spotting, this inn has your complete care in mind without exception. My husband and I were very sad to think that we would have to really downsize on our wedding given extremely limited funds at the time. We will forever be grateful to Inn at Occidental for instead making our wedding a romantic fairytale with absolutely nothing to want for. (Side note: they also have promotions with Osmosis Day Spa just down the road, which is absolute heaven!!).

Yelp
We had a great stay in the safari room (lovely; but wish there was a feature to keep the fireplace on, not just as a heart source, and the people upstairs were LOUD ...Stomping) The tub filled up fast, hot bath and hot shower was very nice. We ate at nearby Union hotel which was friendly with good food! Lovely hosts! Good tea, wine (we weren't served and cheese?) coffee and breakfast---We will be back!

Yelp
Such a great place to stay! My boyfriend took me for my 31st birthday (Nov 2020) and it was an amazing time. Marilyn at the front desk was super sweet and helpful upon checkin, the room was spacious, clean and immaculate which was a relief during the covid-19 pandemic. My boyfriend even surprised me by calling ahead to order a cake. The chef on site made the cake and they placed it in the mini-fridge in our room before our checkin. I am not exaggerating when I say this is the best cake either of us have had. The breakfast and especially the coffee were to die for! They were also accommodating to food restrictions (vegetarian.) We made a trip of it by stopping in Bodega Bay on the way in from the Bay Area and then stopping at Kendall Jackson and LaCrema wineries in Sonoma after check out. (Ask the hotel about their wine pass-there were discounts at many wineries in the area for staying at the Inn.) Also, Hazels restaurant is walking distance to the Inn and is to die for- definitely check it out for dinner and be sure to order the Brussels sprouts. PS do not be alarmed if you hear a siren. They have a volunteer fire department near the Inn that siren for calls.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed two nights over the Fourth of July weekend. I can't remember ever sleeping better while away from home. Comfortable beds in an extremely quiet environment. Waking to the smell of coffee and sizzling bacon was great. The Inn is conveniently located a short walk away from shops, restaurants and a fun farmers market thats returns every Friday night. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the friendly innkeeper Marilyn, who is beyond exceptional. Marilyn went out of her way to make us feel welcome, and make sure we were comfortable. Her advice on attractions and things to do in the area was also spot on! Thank you Marilyn for adding a personal touch to our short getaway!

Yelp
The day before I came to the Inn at Occidental was spent in Disneyland. On the eve of my return to home to the mundane and daily life, I sit here thinking back on these last ten days spent exploring the seaside and the city, and I wonder if it will actually be the Inn at Occidental that is remembered as the magical kingdom? If so, Jerry and Tina--the Inn's proprietors--are the king and queen. These are not dictators or unholy and unrighteous monarchs ruling with an iron fist. These are benevolent rulers. Servants of the people whose royal knowledge of hospitality governs all who make the eastward turn up 3rd Street from the Bohemian Highway. Their nation's currency is kindness, and Occidental runs over in riches. Whether it's a dinner recommendation, dessert ideas, wine tour arrangements, or even meticulous mapping of driving directions, the Royal Family is always ready with their smiling service. Each cottage in the kingdom is well appointed. We stayed in the Kitchen Cupboard and loved the whimsical antique kitchen paraphernalia scattered about. The bed was comfy for a late afternoon nap and a deep, full night's rest. Jacuzzi tub was perfection after a day of driving and dining. We poked our head in at a couple other rooms and were also impressed. Each room can also be viewed on their website and provides a reason to come back to the Inn for a different visit. We were treated as fellows in royalty during breakfast. Apple pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit, granola, and fresh juice filled our peasant bellies with nourishment an contentment. This was a perfect getaway and placed us in the perfect locale to launch the next morning into any adventure of our choosing. I was most grateful for the gift certificate that afforded us this visit. Living like a king will cost you. in this case, it's worth the price.

Yelp
Stayed at the Inn for 2 nights in March 2015. Got a great Groupon rate to stay here mid-week, spoke to Marilyn who was very helpful when I made my reservation. Service there is very personal, the staff is welcoming. Jerry escorted us to the room and provided us with details regarding the facilities. We stayed in the Lodge room, which had a unique aspen canopy bed and great views from the balcony. The rooms are very spacious, have double sinks and fireplaces. Room was very clean. The perfect place to cozy up. During our stay we took advantage of the complimentary wine tasting passes to over 100 Sonoma County Wineries. Was great to enjoy the picturesque countryside and sample some of the wines at no cost. Getting to the participating wineries can be a bit of a drive, the inn provides a map of Somoma that makes it easier to plot your path. We also visited Bodega Bay which is about 30 minutes from the Inn. Enjoyed the wine and cheese hour, very relaxing to have cheese and wine pairings on the veranda or in the courtyard. Very good cheeses. Can also take your glass of wine to enjoy on your balcony. 4 star rating because breakfast could be improved. Small flavorless items are served. Breakfast potatoes were undercooked and cold. The self-serve coffee would run out quickly in the mornings. After check out I noticed my credit card was charged for a $23 bottle of in room Merry Edwards wine we did not drink. I immediately called the Inn and spoke to Marilyn who apologized and quickly reversed the charge. Just be aware that there are actually supposed to be TWO bottles of wine in the room, one in the refrigerator and one on the bureau. In our case upon check in there was only a bottle on the bureau which is why we were mistakenly charged for drinking one. Overall I really enjoyed my stay and definitely recommend this charming B&B.

Yelp
The most darling and quaint inn and our first B&B! Marilyn was/is amazing! So friendly, warming, and informational! My future hubby and I are looking for a few venues in this gorgeous area for our wedding and she gave us a few places and even called around. The owner Tina is lovely and welcoming. We absolutely LOVE supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs. This is a true gem in the heart of Occidental. Beautiful location and wonderful accommodations. We stayed in the Heritage room which was darling. We are currently at the downstairs breakfast area which is unbelievable. They have made lifelong guest from us and we will be staying in all the rooms going forward. Thank you to all the staff, Marilyn, Tina and Jerry! -K & J

Yelp
I cannot speak highly enough of this place. My husband and I traveled here a few months ago and we've already booked our next visit! We absolutely loved it here. It was in a great location, close to incredible wineries, and close to the coast to do some beautiful driving. We found every employee truly helpful and kind. Downtown Occidental is quite cute and we loved the wine hour and breakfast! This place is really and truly a perfect getaway and we're so excited to be coming back!

Yelp
We stayed here for the weekend and our experience was incredible, cozy, friendly, and charming. First, the drive here was scenic, surrounded by pine trees and vineyards on a small meandering road. Once we got to the inn, we were greeted by Jerry and Annie, who were amazingly friendly and showed us to our room (The Tiffany). The room was spacious, with a wood burning fireplace, two shower-heads, cable tv, free wifi, and most importantly, a trafitional canopy bed with a super soft comforter. Everything was right! In the morning, we were treated to breakfast, featuring eggs benedict, fruits, yogurt, oj, etc. The most beautiful thing was the view, and waking up to a foggy landscape of pine trees in a small cozy town.

Yelp
Had a blast! We are a mid-twenties couple. We used a Living Social deal. We live in San Diego, CA. We were impressed with this place. It has a unique look and feel. The service was exceptional, personal, and friendly. The town is pretty neat. There scenery is beautiful. We ate at the nearby Union Hotel. They were really nice to us there as well. There are some wineries located 10-15 minutes away. We left rested and happy. We highly recommend this place. We stayed in the Wine Country room. Thank you. -JT and Gloria :)

Yelp
I spent the weekend up in Wine Country with a bud and our wives - and based on a TravelZoo deal, spent the weekend at the Inn. The Inn itself is pretty spectacular - the owners have done a VERY good job of decoration, and the 100+ year old home is both whimsical and comfortable. The cottages (out back) are only about twelve years old, and are themed - we stayed in the Safari room (you can figure out the theme there) while our friends stayed in the Heritage room. Other than decor, the rooms were identical. The visit includes wine/cheese between 5-6pm, as well as breakfast. The staff at both of these were very friendly and attentive (as were the owners). The breakfast itself was a bit of a letdown, when compared to other B&B's. Saturday was waffles (which is great, unless you're not a big fan of bread), and Sunday was a quiche. Neither was exactly filling. The coffee was good though, as was the OJ. The only REAL ding is that this is VERY out of the way...a good 45 minutes from Sonoma, and frankly, a VERY small town. Two Italian restaurants, one Mexican restaurant, and a tavern. We ate at the tavern the first night (which, while packed with locals, was not all that great) and the family-owned Italian the second night (which was pretty good). But that's it. No other options without driving a ways. On the upside, if you're planning on a weekend on the Russian River, this is reasonably close by. Overall, a thumbs up. Again, I've been in better B&B's when it comes to breakfast, but this is a good B&B with friendly staff - oh...and wireless (thank goodness, as there is NO cell phone signal).

Yelp
This place is so cute. It was our first bed and breakfast that we stayed at. Tina did a great job at making us feel welcome and explaining the area and recommending a great restaurant for dinner - Terrapin Creek. The breakfasts in the morning were delicious- asparagus frittata, eggs Benedict, and praline French toast with chicken apple sausage. There is absolutely no AT&T service in the area, so make sure you download the google map of the area before you leave their wifi. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Sonoma.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect! So perfect I had to write a review and I've never written one as much as I rely on Yelp. My mom and I saw the Inn featured on Eye On The Bay and had to come. Even before getting there I spoke with Tina on the phone (very nice) to make sure it was okay for my 6 y/o daughter to join and also to note we would be celebrating my mom's birthday. She said there was no problem at all with my daughter (she is well behaved) and even waived the fee associated with an extra guest. Wonderful. She gave lots of helpful info as well. Upon arriving we met Jerry (very nice as well) who let us check in even though we arrived way before the 3pm check in time. Excellent. Everything about the Inn is cozy and welcoming. Fresh cookies, hot coffee and tea available all day. Spacious lobby with cozy couches and a huge fire. We stayed in the Tiffany room because online it looked bright and open. It did not disappoint. As requested, a roll away bed was set up just as lovely as the other bed. Both were super comfy and luxurious! We left for a couple of hours and when we came back there was a delicious little cake with three forks and a card for my mom. Thoughtful. I'm sure all the rooms are nice, but we will come back to the Tiffany room for the fact that it has it's own private balcony and 3 windows with 3 picturesque views. Also, the room is above the dining room and there are no neighbors on either side of the Tiffany room. Very quiet. There's a computer in a little library and also a fridge for guest use. Free wi-fi too. Wine and cheese hour was great by the fire. Jerry served my daughter juice. Breakfast was served by the roaring fire downstairs. We had eggs benedict and they specially made my daughter scramble eggs and wheat toast. Not to mention the amazing homeade granona, yogurt, lemon cake and fresh fruit. If you can't tell by now we loved it here. Next time I think we'll come in the summer months so we can enjoy sitting on the porch with some wine.

Yelp
For me this was as good as it gets. I love this place. It's fantastic. First, the staff is amazing. And the main house is just lovely. Decorated to within an inch of its life, there's something to look at everywhere, and the English garden is just as delightful. Have wine and cheese in the garden, in the main house or on the veranda. Our room was charming. Fantastic decorations! Themed rooms are tastefully decorated (so often this theme stuff goes terribly wrong, but not here). The tub was AMAZING! Fit two very tall people easily. And the jets are super fun. And the tub fills super fast- I wish my tub at home filled as fast. Plus there is a separate shower. The toiletries are very nice, and you get q-tips and cotton balls too- which is a nice touch. There was an in-room fridge in our room, and a hair dryer. We had a great view from our second floor room. The linens, both towels and sheets, were superior. Breakfast was lovely. There's a large room dedicated to dining downstairs- 6 tables, with two buffet tables, and then on top of the fruit and muffins and granola and yogurt, you get a cooked to order breakfast delivered by your server. The only negative for some might be there was no TV in the room (I certainly didn't want one), and no coffee maker- but coffee and tea are available in the main house- but it's a bit of a walk if you are in the rooms above the main house. Also, and this was a big negative for my husband, there is an emergency siren (think air raid siren) that goes off and sounds like it's right outside your room- it summons the volunteer fire department members- for ANY kind of emergency. This did not bother me, but my husband needs medication to sleep, and he ended up needing to take a double dose, so for him this was a big negative- and he was wearing ear plugs, as he always does. There is nothing the people at the inn can do about this. But you should know about it.
