Very nice people and a great location. Everyone we worked with at check in, check out, and breakfast was very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the third floor up a couple flights of steep stairs, but that’s to be expected in an older building. Room was exactly as advertised, and very quiet despite being above a busy restaurant. Parking was discounted at a local garage

My son and I just stayed at the Inn over the weekend for him to compete at the Navy Gymnastics Challenge. The location was perfect. Walking distance to every thing we needed. The staff at the Inn/Restaurant were so friendly and accommodating. I will most definitely stay here again if we come back to Annapolis. Thank you for a wonderful experience!!

Positive: Great little in above Chick and Ruth's central to everything in downtown Annapolis, everyone was friendly and room was clean. Negative: ""

Last minute booking for the Military Bowl & we wished we had more time and more nights at this super unique, but fabulous location! Room was clean, staff was FABULOUS & made us feel like regulars, and the location is perfect! We’ll definitely be back & the complimentary breakfast was awesome!

Google
Pros: the location is ideal, within walking distance of many shops, restaurants and bars, as well as Eastport, the harbor and Academy. Our room was quiet, despite it being above the busy street and delly. Food is far better at the Delly than you would expect and they have EVERYTHING on the menu. Waitstaff is cheerful, fast and skilled at maneuvering in the very tight spaces between tables and booths. Upstairs in the delly is significantly quieter and cooler (temp) than downstairs. They have some good craft beers, as well. The price at the Inn is about the best you could find in the area. Nice to be in a family-run, historic place rather than a chain, giving that it's "historic Annapolis." You don't have to order from the set menu; you can get $11 off another dish if you prefer. There is adequate lighting to read in bed. Heating and cooling work well, with individual adjustment in each room. A hairdryer is provided.||Cons: the stairs are steep and narrow with handrail only on one side.No AC in the stairwell or corridors. You take your luggage yourself. The $11 discount is advertised as $11.98...please change that on your site! As other reviewers say, the rooms are very, very small. The showerhead is an antique with no "options" but water pressure and heat are fine. The bed was soft and bouncy and saggy. The pillows were very thin and flattened instantly. Linens were thin and scratchy; the bottom sheet was not fitted and came loose repeatedly. They are standard linen company supplies, as there is no laundry on the premises. This wouldn't be so annoying except that their brochure advertises "premium linens." Nope. The towels were fine, though. It also refers to modern rooms...really, they are like 1960s motel rooms. We had no shampoo or toiletries in our room. There is no chair or luggage stand.||Given the very reasonable cost, this is a decent deal, especially given the walkability of the location, a huge plus in the unbearable heat. But if you need a little pampering, or a bed like the one you have at home, or expect any extras, you won't be pleased.||Even if you don't stay at the Inn, DO have a mean at the Delly. It's well worth it, especially if you like things a little funky and your food satisfying.

It's the perfect location if want to spend some time in Annapolis for a few days. It's within walking distance of the harbor, the Naval Academy, the state house and so many great restaurants and shops. It's surprisingly quiet for being on a main street and above the diner and the price is so reasonable. The rooms are minimalist but clean and comfortable.

Google
Positive: I liked the location of the hotel as it was in downtown Annapolis. Negative: The room was "pretty rough around the edges". I know this can happen in hotels, however the bed was kind of hard, the pillows were old and flat. Additionally when I went to take a shower Sunday morning there was no shower head, only a faucet. Negative: ""

My daughter and I took a chance on this little B&B which was 1/3rd the price of the historic hotel where our family reunion was held. We were not disappointed. We were just a few blocks from the reunion hotel and right in the middle of all the action and restaurants and shops on Main Street. The area was safe with lots of people out at all times. Very Old School diner below, but our room was very quiet, being in the middle of the historic building. Modern, clean room with a big window, but small. No chair, no closet, no microwave, refrigerator, or coffee maker, but then, we expected that. The sink is in the room. Steep stairs, not for mobility impaired. The parking garage behind is under construction. The bed was comfortable, but when getting in or out, it squeaked like a banshee. Good hot water, and good heating and air. Very nice for the location. We ate at several restaurants just outside our door, and the food was fantastic!

Yelp
The Scotlaur Inn is WONDEEFUL! Not only are we staying at one of their rooms in their famous Bed and Breakfast, we like it so much, we had breakfast and dinner here! The food is wonderful and the staff made us feel part of their family. We had the crab omelette which was DELISH! We also had their super tasty clam chowder and hot roast beef with gravy. We're in love with this place and highly recommend when you're in Anapolis.

Yelp
Location is what makes this place worth it, but objectively the accommodations are mediocre. Very clean, good sized bed, but walls are thin so you hear everything (there is also a 2am Club/bar next door). The TVs don't let you adjust volume, I couldn't get the AC on, and the shower was so small that I had to open the door to lean over and retrieve a dropped soap. Given the options available when every hotel gets booked out for special events here, it was perfectly fine for a solo stay -- hard to imagine having more than 2 people though.

Scott D.

Yelp
Really a 4.25 rating. I only removed points for slightly out dated decor, and a double bed for 2 people to share. Other than that, we were greeted and shown our room promptly. It was clean and comfortable. It's location is right in the heart of old harbour Annapolis. So much history to the building, the area, and the owners. We did learn that they had just sold the property 2 days earlier, and that the new owners promised to keep, and run, the restaurant and BnB as before. Only time will tell. I've eaten here a few times before, always a good breakfast and lunch. I've never stayed overnight. Great visit from current owners and management. The future shall reveal itself.

Yelp
This quirky B&B is located (as others have stated) on the 2nd and 3rd floor of a busy "delly" in the heart of Annapolis. You can literally walk down the street to the State Capitol and tons of shops and restaurants. Since the accommodations are upstairs, and there's no elevator, keep in mind that you'll need to go up and down those stairs (sometimes with your luggage) every time you come and go to your room. We booked the room on their website which featured an ad with a special rate since it was off-season. Imagine my surprise when they called me up a few minutes later informing me that the listed price was not the actual price and that "the website has the wrong price for that room." I let that slide since it wasn't more than $10 difference but the listing also mentioned a "free bottle of wine." As you may be able to guess, we never saw the wine. The room was ok- definitely old-timey and small; things you expect from a B&B. Our room also featured a sign informing us of a turn-down service we would receive- which never came. Little things like that and a lamp that didn't work were just icing on the cake. The breakfast part of the deal is served downstairs in the "delly" and it gets you $5.50 worth of breakfast. You can order from the special B&B menu or put your $5.50 toward something more filling, which is what we did. Would I stay here again? No. But it would probably work for you in a pinch. I guess all the issues are part of the charm? I'm not so sure.

Yelp
We stayed for 2 nights & loved it. Well located for walking in historic area. Parking right behind the Inn, with 1/2 paid by the Inn (much appreciated). Clean room. Food downstairs was great, we ate 2 breakfasts and 1 soup & sandwich there and were happy with everything. The staff is amazing, they work together like a "family" and it shows in how they treat the customers. We were able to upgrade our breakfasts for only a few dollars more (I recommend the crab eggs benedict). When booking the room consider the street noise in the rooms out front. Also keep in mind there's no elevator, stairs only. They're going through a remodeling so everything is still new.

Yelp
What a funky place, I am a luxury hotel guy as is my cohort. I immediately loved the place a real working delly (thier spelling), frankly it was the busiest place on the strip Sunday early. The room is small the decor is a real victorian flashback and the steps could kill you, but the little balcony on the back is where we finished the night then had a great breakfast in the morning. You cant beat the price!

Yelp
I came down to Annapolis for a 5 day sailing class. Staying at the Scotlaur Inn was excellent. The price was reasonable for the location, and having the restaurant downstairs was great because I had to leave early in the morning and came back exhausted in the evening. I didn't need a car, it was an easy walk to the school which was in Eastport. The staff at the restaurant were so nice to me. I felt safe and comfortable in my room. Yes, they are small and cozy, and I had Room 203 with the brick wall view, but honestly if you have something to do in the day it doesn't matter. This is like a European family inn and having stayed in plenty of Motel 6's etc. in my travels this was a nice change. The teddy bear on the bed was a cute touch. Will definitely return again as I continue my sailing education.

Yelp
Man, I LOVED the Scotlaur Inn. Just absolutely loved it. Positively, absolutely loved it. It all started about a year ago when I made my first trip to Annapolis. Of course, based on Yelp and hearsay, we made a stop at Chick and Ruth's. While passing in, my eye caught sight of the B&B upstairs. "What an awesome location," I thought. A few trips later, I had to find a pick a place to stay, so why not? The website was simple and helpful. I had a question about parking, so I called, and they gave me a quick, courteous answer (they give you a 1/2 price coupon card for parking when you check in, which you insert when you leave the lot behind their building, and they will give you as many as you need for each time you pull out of the lot). We arrived in Annapolis at around 11 the day we were supposed to check in at 3. There was an option to check in early, but we were in no rush. We got a bite to eat (Iron Rooster is awesome!), checked out some stores, then headed back. You get your key at the checkout line for Chick and Ruth's, when one of the waiters shows you to and around your room. The rooms are small but cozy and clean. Heat/AC is easily controlled by a fancy remote console. To my surprise, the room also had a TV, which I couldn't see in the Yelp pictures, but was much appreciated for movies later that night. I suppose my favorite part of the whole experience, and why I will Scotlaur such a stellar review was the whole ambience was EXACTLY what I want in a downtown B&B. AWESOME location. SUPER competitive price (I think the cheapest downtown). Great room. Plus, and I didn't even consider this as I checked in, I LOVED having a full-service restaurant downstairs. At one point, we were thirsty and wanted sodas. Instead of having to get dressed for the weather outside and walk to CVS (which is admittedly not too far), I could simply mosey downstairs, go up to the cash register and get a couple fountain sodas! After that, my mind reeled at the possibilities!! You're telling me without stepping a foot outside, I can get almost anything from the most popular restaurant in Annapolis?? We got milkshakes and pie later to enjoy later. If that's not Heaven on earth, I don't know what is. We had dinner across the street at Preserve, and while it was only above average, you had your pick of any restaurant in Annapolis from this prime location. The next morning, we got breakfast, which is included. My girlfriend got something off the specific B&B menu, but I opted to use the $5.50 credit they offer to get olives and cream cheese on toast with a side of chili and cheese potatoes. Plus, they threw in coffee, so with the side of bacon, we only paid for the bacon and tip! Very family-friendly, classic diner feel. I was incredibly reluctant to leave after that meal...they were also extremely flexible about the 11 AM check-out time. Literally, my only complaint was the towels could use some fabric softener. That's it! My sole complaint! I would recommend the Scotlaur Inn to anybody I know planning a trip to Naptown!

Yelp
PROS: Location is incredible Great balcony for relaxing Room is surprisingly quiet Rooms are clean Tons of pictures on the wall of the Levitt family is surprisingly charming We had an apple fritter in the deli that was the best one I've ever had Teddy (proprietor) seemed very nice in the 2 minutes I talked to him when I checked out. He seemed genuinely bummed to hear about our negative experience. I have no doubt that he really wants people to have a good, comfortable time. CONS: Deli does a huge business, so it is clear guests in the rooms are second priority. Proprietor is too busy with deli to interact with inn guests. Incredibly surly staff (Bad experiences with Nick and Laurie) No do not disturb signs for doors When you ask for ice they dump it in the bucket without placing in a plastic bag. They also don't rinse them out before dumping in the ice. Ours had some dirt in it that I neglected to rinse out because I assumed they would put a plastic bag in it. Hallways are not air conditioned and hot as an attic in the summer Check-in procedure in the over capacity deli is very awkward (especially if you have bags) The breakfast is mediocre. The deli is a quantity over quality business. Food isn't great, but you get a ton of it. Bed had a plastic cover to cover the blood on the mattress. It was uncomfortable and ripped. We asked Laurie if they could have it replaced. She gave us a really hard time and said that the staff had already come around. She never sent anyone up and we had to keep putting the cover on the bed the best we could. Rooms smell a little like fried food. Final note: For your entire stay, you will be treated like a patron at a busy NY deli and not a guest in a charming B&B.

Yelp
I am updating my review because Ted was kind enough to reply and mention that he is making updates and addressing some of my concerns. I am hoping that his improvements will bode well for his business. I cannot say that I have been back to see any of these first-hand, but, I appreciate his feedback and willingness to improve. Best of luck to Ted and his inn!

Yelp
My goodness. This place is pretty much the most charming thing. My boyfriend and I came into Annapolis for the annual croquet match and this place was perfect. Located in the central part of Annapolis, this bed and breakfast represented the wonderful quaintness of the city. Let me count the ways: 1. It is above a pretty damn good diner/"delly" 2. The name: Scotlaur Inn, after Scott and Laura, who are Chick and Ruth's grandchildren (ADORABLE) 3. The rooms are so homey and warm, each with distinct charm 4. Private bathroom, wireless internet and television 5. The family photos that adorn the walls of the hallway just make your heart melt. On a side note, the only thing that was strange was the collection of books on the bookshelves. For some reason, our room (304) had a lot of books on euthanasia. Other than that, it was the perfect experience in Annapolis. Sure, you could stay down the street at the historic Maryland Inn. However, I prefer the less expensive, more homey quality of the Scotlaur Inn.

Yelp
Read the negative reviews on tripadvisor, see the pissy replies from the sub-literate owner, and then notice how the poor spelling carries across to the 5-star reviews (by alleged guests with only one contribution to tripadvisor--if you're going to write fakes, you have to do better than that). It's filthy, it's just a few rooms above a greasy diner, you have to check in at the diner as people are trying to pay for their eggs and coffee, it's overpriced, the decor is awful...

David H.

Yelp
Room in need of some upgrades and the one we were in was really small. Bathroom really needs some repairs. Door didn't shut all the way and shower door about to fall off frame. Ceiling was cracking.

Justin T.

Yelp
Menu is ridiculous. Food is gross. Service is slow. I had the chicken wrap sandwich. It was so bland. I swear they boiled the chicken and threw it in the wrap without even considering seasoning or flavor.

Meridith K.

Yelp
We spent Easter weekend here on a mini-honeymoon for two nights and thought it was great. Perks: Convenience-Not having to worry about driving back and forth from a chain hotel elsewhere in Annapolis was a huge plus! We loved being able to go out and enjoy dinner, dancing, and a few drinks without paying for a cab or having to designate one of us as a DD. Parking: They give you stickers to reduce the price of parking in the Noah Hillman garage by half. Check in: We were able to easily check in a little before midnight late Friday night before the delly closed. Breakfast: You get a complimentary breakfast or up to $5.50 off your breakfast/brunch there, and I didn't see any time limits. Breakfast is served at all times in addition to other standard delly foods. Cost: Much cheaper than other area B&B's and the Mariott down the street. Character: This place is a local legend and exudes quirky character. The daily pledge of allegiance, the colossal Man versus Food challenge menu items, the decor of the delly, the homeyness of the guest rooms (looks like my grandma's guest rooms when I was little), and the overall mood gives you a smile and a chuckle. Cons: The delly is busy all the time.... Seriously, it stays packed with people in and out. If you're an anxiety ridden person or uncomfortable with crowds, you might not like entering/leaving. Stairs: There were many. I didn't see a wheelchair or handicapped accessible area, but that doesn't mean they don't have it. I just know that if I brought my grandmother or mother, they would not appreciate all the steep stairways. Tiny: Large people do not even need to attempt trying to get a table at the delly (They pair several two person tables next to one another/back to back, usually separated by about 12-18inches.) The shower was small and allowed you to only stand up straight, impossible for you to shave your legs. I tried, I failed. Also room 202 was tiny, but we expected that coming in. Therefore we weren't disappointed. For those with kids, you may want to book a larger room with space for your playpen. For those expecting modern decor, this is not the place for you. We loved the old timey character, but it's very much like your grandmother's house. All in all we had a great experience and will be back again.

Heather D.

Yelp
The dirty, grimy carpets are absolutely disgusting. Inexcusable in this price bracket. On weekends, you may as well spend the evening next door at the dance club, since you'll hear nothing but pounding bass lines and drunk patrons anyway. Not a quiet place till after the bar/club closes. Honestly, it is too bad, as the staff are very friendly.

Holidais B.

Yelp
Super cute place to stay in nap town, fantastic location in the center of downtown. Just know that your bed/mattress is likely ancient and uncomfortable. As long as you're prepared for that, it's a great place to stay. Attached to the downstairs diner (where you actually check in at their counter), you always have a quick and easy option for food, and they validate the parking for the lot behind the hotel to make it $10 per day instead of full price. That's pretty good! If they get those beds updated I'd give a full 5 stars!

Eric S.

Yelp
AMAZING! I had the pleasure of staying at the Scotlaur Inn above Chick & Ruth's in Annapolis. I wasn't sure what to expect at first. Chick & Ruth's is an amazing deli/diner/restaurant in Annapolis that you can't miss. I just wasn't sure if the service was going to match with a B&B. Upon check-in I was greeted by a manager and shown around by one of the servers. They both did a great job of making me feel at home and welcoming me. Throughout the stay the entire staff recognized me and welcomed me. I have to say, they went above and beyond making sure my wifi connection worked too. That made me feel special that they closed the loop and went the extra mile. Breakfast is included with your stay...which is GREAT! The food at Chick & Ruth's is great, so that is truly an added bonus. Overall, this is a great place to stay. I used to work in higher-end hotels and can be a picky guest. I can say that the Scotlaur Inn is a treasure in Annapolis. It's just difficult to get a reservation I am sure...it's that good!

Yelp
I spent a couple of nights at the Scotlaur Bnb several weeks ago and generally have only positive things to say. The place is a bit cuckoo, but I suppose that's part of the charm. To check in, you go down to the diner that is owned by the same proprietors. From there, one of the waiters takes you up to your room on the several floors above. Rooms are adequately sized, simple, basic, and traditionally appointed. Furnishings, linens, etc. were quite clean, if a bit dated. The bathroom was petite, but does the trick. Everything about the place was just fine. The only thing that did disappoint a bit was the lingering scent of butter and cooking oils that emanated up from the first-floor diner. I'm not too big a fan of smelling like bacon, and that's a bit difficult to do when the air circulation seems to pick up some of downstairs' cooking. Nevertheless, I had a good stay at Scotlaur: it's a simple, economical, and centrally-located spot to stay in during a visit to Annapolis.

Frieda F.

Yelp
So here's the scoop: it's a set of rooms above Chick and Ruth's Delly. This means you will be right on Main Street in the heart of old town Annapolis, and your breakfast will be hearty, friendly, and swift. These are good things! There is overnight parking in the structure behind the building, and guests get a coupon for half price. Nice also! There are drawbacks, however. The rooms are rather cramped, though serviceable. We had an older but adequate bathroom in our room. Our 'queen' bed was undersized with a saggy, bouncy older mattress. Together with considerable street noise (we had the front second-floor room), this meant sleeping was a challenge. All in all, the advantages may outweigh the downsides for you. But the welcome you receive will be genuine. Thanks, Scotlaur, we enjoyed our stay!

Lu L.

Yelp
I had a very pleasant stay here! The room I stayed in is beautifully decorated and I felt very comfortable even though it is a petite size room. The staff working here are very friendly. They took good care of my needs and recognized me while I was walking in downtown. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends if they ever need to find a place to stay in Annapolis.

Ed P.

Yelp
When I came to check in at 1230. Instead of a nice greeting , I got "Check in is at 330. The room was too small and dingy looking. The worst part was a bar was next door and kept me awake due to the loud noisy crowd til 2am for 3 nights. Never again will I come back. Do not recommend this place to anyone.

John M.

Yelp
I used to frequent Chic & Ruth's since the early 80s (until I relocated to the Midwest in the late 90s) and I never had the need for the Scotlaur when I was living in the area. My wife and I needed a place to stay this month since my parents relocated to a nursing home, and after looking at various places in the area we decided to give the Scotlaur a chance for a couple reasons (pricing, location). We've been to B&Bs around the country, Canada, and Europe, and we have stayed in many hotels (high and low) over the years because we love traveling. Most B&Bs don't do it for us because they're typically pretentious, lack in genuine customer service and/or charm, and charge more than what they're worth. So, we didn't have much in terms of expectations when we booked at the Scotlaur Inn. In short, we were pleasantly blown away by our experience. You definitely get that warm and caring charm that is characteristic of good B&Bs without annoying staff or their superficial customer-service front. Nick showed us to our room and gave us the run down, and the next morning we met him while eating breakfast (the crabcake eggs benedict is a MUST; I'm extremely picky when it comes to eggs benedict and haven't found a good one in many, many years...until now). I'm not a doughnut person, yet the doughnuts at the Delly were phenomenal. We had fresh towels and turn-down service offered daily. The room (301) looked much better in person than the online photo, and I did notice another room (304) that also looked really good. I think we got the biggest room, but would have been okay with one of the smaller rooms as we're a bit on the low-maintenance side of traveling. We had a minor issue with the heating unit in our room (we forgot how to engage the heat setting and as a result we had cold air), and Teddy didn't hesitate to come to our assistance early Christmas morning. He was very accommodating, offering another room should our room not be adequately heated (but he figured it out and it was quite warm and comforting). We highly recommend the Scotlaur Inn without reservation. Experienced travelers will absolutely love this gem. Although it's not a high-end B&B, the Scotlaur Inn succeeds in making guests feel comfortable. The pricing is reasonable, especially in comparison to several hotels (both downtown and in West Annapolis). We're definitely booking a room the next time we're in town.

Ben G.

Yelp
The Scotlaur Inn, billing itself as a B&B is not your typical B&B. The hotel sits in the 2nd and 3rd floors of an old building smack dab in the middle of the action in Annapolis, right on Main Street. The hotel sits atop a very popular "Delly" restaurant. The restaurant is noisy and emits lots of great smells, but thankfully, we didn't experience the noise or the smells in our room on the 3rd floor. Check-in, right in the middle of lunch hour, was a bit of an issue. I waited about 15 minutes to check in, as the check-in is done at the restaurant cashier, and many restaurant customers were lined up and ready to pay when we arrived. After finally getting our key, we were shown our room on the 3rd floor. I didn't notice any elevator and there are a lot of stairs to get to the floors above, so if you are not physically capable of negotiating several flights of stairs, you may want to look elsewhere. Our room was...compact. The queen-sized bed fit into the room, but there was no room for a desk. The TV was located in a wardrobe cabinet (we were missing a remote control and we had to "borrow" one from another room to use the cable/TV). The sink was located in the room, separate from the bathroom (toilet and shower). Our main issue with the room was the noise caused by our room's window vibrating from teh vents from the neigboring restaurant's roof. My wife managed to fix the problem by sticking a piece of paper in our room's window and voila! No more rattling window. This is an old property, so we expected rattles, creaks, etc. But once we fixed the window the room was actually very quiet, even though it was right on Main Street. I found the bed to be comfortable. The breakfast part of staying at the hotel includes a meal in the "Delly" restaurant on the first floor. The hotel offers six set meals from which to choose, but if you want, you could eat anything on their menu and the hotel deducts a flat amount from the check (per person) to help pay for whatever you chose. The crabcakes smelled so good, I decided to have a crabcake omelet for breakfast. It was delicious. My wife ordered a fresh fruit cup. The cup was huge, and the fruit really was fresh. The restaurant has literally over 100 different items, not including many cakes, muffins, pies, etc. Parking is tough in Annapolis, but the hotel covers half of your parking costs from the public lot located right behind the hotel. One night of parking costs $20, but the hotel's voucher saved us $10. Not too shabby. So, the hotel is not for everyone, but we had an enjoyable stay. If you're looking for a newer hotel and/or great customer service, you may not be happy. But we found the place to be quirky and historic (including family photos mounted on many of the hotel passageway walls). The location, right on Main St. is great, and is a short walk from the US Naval Academy, the State House and other areas of interest near the center of Annapolis.

Becca S.

Yelp
I think that this place is the epitome of the word charming. My husband and I checked in over this past weekend for a quick getaway before our second child is born. I am in love and will definitely stay again. The staff definitely takes great care of the guests and the decor is reminiscent of staying at Great Auntie Brigid's house in Killarney -- cozy rooms with Victorian wallpaper and furnishings. Our bed was super comfy (even for a woman who is 8 months pregnant) and our room was nice and quiet despite being located above one of the busiest restaurants in Annapolis. If you want high society go up West Street to the Loews Annapolis Hotel. Your feet will be killing you after the long walk downtown to get to anything. If you want to stay right in the thick of things for a decent price the ScotLaur is your best bet.

Lana J C.

Yelp
Met up with some family there for a short get together. I would definitely stay there again. Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful and pleasant. The young man who showed us to our rooms made sure we knew where everything was, how to operate the heat/air conditioning, and came back up when I couldn't figure out how to get onto the free Wi-Fi. The room was quaint, decorated as someone else said, like your grandmother might have decorated in the 30's or 40's, which I thought was charming. It was very neat and clean and comfortable. It is definitely in walking distance of the docks, restaurants, shops, Naval academy, etc. We parked in the recommended parking immediately behind the deli, and received the half price cost. The Delly below had good deli food, and was quite popular, which was a negative by some reviewers. It was crowded and small. However, it was what it was, a deli in an old building and just fine as long as you were not expecting a fine dining experience. The food was very tasty. I had a Reuben which was excellent, and my cousin had the crabcake which looked excellent. Another person in our party had an extremely generous chef salad which she couldn't even finish. Cons: It is true that the diner is very busy and it you arrive trying to check in at rush time, it is a little bit complicated. However, they were gracious about taking our bags and locking them up. We were there before check-in time, and wouldn't have anticipated getting into our rooms anyway. The only real negatives I could see was the steps to the rooms. No elevator. Any person with accessibility issues wouldn't want to book a room there. There were many steps and they were steep. As an approaching senior citizen, I could walk the steps, and was happy to know they were quite willing to carry my luggage up and down the steps when I checked in and checked out. Someone else mentioned the shower was small. It was. An extremely large person would have an issue with it. Then again, an extremely large person might not want to book the room because of the steps. All in all, if the steps aren't a problem for you, you will find this a very charming place, convenient location, and a reasonable value for your money.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend stayed here over New Year weekend. The place is so cute and in an amazing location. All the people are super nice. I loved having breakfast in the delly downstairs. And for the price I'll be staying here again. My only complaint is that the walls are super thin. We had room 201, it looks out onto the main street and you could here the drunks until around 2am. Also on our last night there we kept hearing blaring music and the streets were deserted so we're guessing it was coming from the delly downstairs I was getting really annoyed but it stopped around 1:30. So if you like quiet I would choose 202 or 302 where there are no windows out on the main street.

Yelp
My daughter is a 2nd class MIDN. We've been staying here since 2 nights before I-day. The people are friendly, the sheets are clean, plenty of hot water, spotless bathrooms-yes they are small but we are in "Historic DTA", the wi-fi is free and always good, we have never missed a blink of sleep, the housekeeping staff will go above & beyond or leave you alone-up to you AND the establishment is ALWAYS kind & welcoming to our MIDSHIPMEN!!!! As far as I am concerned this is THE place to stay! It is a blast from the past. If you want she, she chain style hotels there are plenty of them in & around Annapolis & every other city in the universe. Pretty hard to find a "Family B & B" anymore. But to each their own, I suppose!

Yelp
My family came from New Jersey and Virginia Beach and the surrounding area of Annapolis, MD. We chose the Scotlaur Inn based on reviews we saw on Yelp. We gathered to spend time together for Thanksgiving 2015. We had an awesome time. The place is so cool. The rooms are furnished with everything you'd need. I don't think we ever turned on the TV. We had too much fun eating in the Deli Downstairs. The food is awesome. Amazing burgers. Breakfast is great. Crab Cakes are to die for. Coffee is excellent. I can't say anything bad about the place. The owners is totally cool. Every morning all the diners in attendance stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance together. If you happen to be there during someone's birthday in the restaurant...everyone, and I mean Everyone in the restaurant sings Happy birthday. The location is the best...you can walk to anywhere. I cannot say enough positive things about this Inn.

Yelp
Clean, cute, LOUD. My only complaint is the unbearable club music from next door until 2am. Bring earplugs and you might enjoy your stay.

Yelp
Delightful. This place is perfectly located, right in the heart of downtown Annapolis and up the street from the harbor. The rates are affordable. Those things alone would be reason to recommend it, but it's also a great experience. The inn is located above Chick & Ruth's, an old school diner with everything on the menu. Free breakfast at the diner is included with the room, which you can take advantage of whenever you come down - a big perk for those of us who don't like getting up early enough to take advantage of most hotel breakfasts, and saved us ever paying for lunch while we were there. You also get to skip the line that forms on weekends. The room was cute, comfortable, and came with a teddy bear.

Yelp
This place is certainly the best bang for the buck in the Main St. area. It is a historic building, with private bathrooms A/C & in every room, which are serviced by the cleaning staff daily. The managers of the B&B/restaurant are incredibly welcoming & friendly. The food and service at Chick & Ruth's was great. The location is prime, you can walk to just about anywhere in downtown Annapolis. I would recommend this place to anyone. This is a Bed and Breakfast, if you are looking for all of the amenities of a 5 star hotel, then book a 5 star hotel. If you are looking for a friendly, clean, and cozy place to stay in the heart of everything this place is for you.

Yelp
Stayed here with my wife for a few days and the following is my assessment: This Inn is in the Heart of Annapolis! You are in walking distance to everything! The location is above Chick and Ruth's Delly, which is where you check in and breakfast is served (space is tight, but the food is yummy). You check in at the Delly counter. By the way, the staff is very friendly and helpful. One of the staff will escort you to your room and explain everything from accessing the room after hours, to the features of the room (extra supplies, storage, etc). Note: There is no elevator, so you must be able to lug your stuff up a couple flights of stairs if you are on the third floor. Good exercise though. Parking garage is behind the delly and you get 50% off ($8/day) of the daily fee (get discount sticker from the delly counter). The rooms have a decor that reminds me of an old Victorian B&B. The room was small, but very clean. We had a queen bed, an armoire with TV, a sink, and a small bathroom with toilet and stand-up shower (excellent water pressure). The air condition unit works well (kept the room super cool even though it was 95+ degrees outside. I loved how soft the carpet was. It felt wonderful under my feet after long days of walking around town. There is no refrigerator in the room, but the delly gave us plenty of ice whenever we wanted and we used the sink filled with ice to have cold drinks in the room. I'll probably get a small cooler for my next trip here to free-up the sink. The only complaints I have is the bed was way too firm for my taste and the TV reception was poor. I did wake up multiple times to turn over because my sides would get uncomfortable. I'd recommend the Inn invest in sleep number beds so guests can dial in their comfort zone. The TV is not a big deal for me, because I wasn't there to watch TV, we were exploring Annapolis! If the bed was more comfortable, I would rate this place at 5 stars even though the room is small and no refrigerator. One thing you can bet on, this place is going to be the least expensive place to stay in Annapolis with arguably the best customer service in town. I saved $200 per night by staying here, which allowed us to splurge on fine dining and drinks. I'll definitely be back at this Inn in the future.
