Clean hotel somewhat near CDG airport. The room was pleasant, quiet, and had an odd layout that I thought worked nicely for an overnight stay. The price is very good. It is not easy to get to, and I would recommend taking a taxi for 25euros rather than the long long walks and non-existent signage for the shuttle.
I had dinner at Olivine, the restaurant in the hotel. I was wary of eating there for a couple of reasons: some awful online reviews and the lack of patrons. Nevertheless I decided it was my easiest option.
When we went in there was a large Italian family having a wonderful time at the opposite end of the dining room. Once we were seated, our order was taken fairly promptly. From there the service went south rapidly. While we were waiting for our starters, three other tables came in and ordered their meals. We finished the starters and waited for the server to bring the entrees. And waited. And waited. In the meanwhile, the three tables that arrived after us not only finished their meals, but paid and left. Meanwhile we were still waiting for our entrees. At some point I became angry (hangry?) with the attitude of the server: ('only two more minutes', followed by at a minimum of five minutes before 'only a few seconds'). Finally, we told the server to just charge us for the starters and we would leave. He tried to argue with us, a death-knell for a waiter in my book. Then the manager come over and tried to explain away the actions of the waiter, but he knew that we were in the right. As they were leaving the food arrived.
At this point, the experience was somewhat relieved by truly well-prepared, delicious and interesting dishes. The chef was obviously far better than the staff in the house. If I were the chef I would be calling the staff in for a careful review of how they are making his work look bad. When I paid, I made a point of asking the the chef be complemented for delicious food. The service, however, shouldn't be tolerated.
