I had a great experience at the hostel. There is a beautiful sense of community and the people working at the hostel are really nice. They also do some activities throughout the week and it is really easy to meet people.

We stayed for two nights at his hostel, it was clean and did the job for our trip. As a female, I thought privacy for shower and toilet rooms was under prioritised - and for the men’s facilities too! The doors didn’t close, only pulled shut by a small latch. The main entrance door to the showers and toilets was always open, and when I did close it, after leaving the shower it was opened again, facing the other rooms. The women’s showers were timed to seven seconds…. Which as any female will know is ridiculous. More on privacy, the main access door to the hostel on the second floor was always unlocked. Everyone gets an “access key” who stays there, but multiple times outside of reception hours, the door was open and did not require a key fob. This unsettled me greatly as the area was busy with lots of drinking and social life. The kitchen facilities were dirty and unorganised, with a lack of emphasis on maintaining a tidy space. The rooms themselves, we stayed an 8-person room, were generally clean, all occupiers were nice and agreeable, but even then the doors weren’t locked by all people. It seemed like an unspoken agreement to leave it all unlocked. It fitted our needs, but I will not be staying again.

This hostel, although quite far from the city center, is located in a very lively neighbourhood and is easily accessible by subway. ||The female and LGBTQIA+ friendly dormitories have their own floor, so it is very safe. The rooms are very nice and clean, I felt like I was at camp!

I was staying on the second floor. The room was pretty clean, it wasn’t loud at night either. The shower rooms and toilets were very nice and clean, there were a couple of them, so you didn’t have to wait in line to take a shower. It was convenient that there were separate rooms with a shower and toilet in each of them. The people at the reception were helpful. The shared spaces, like the wait areas, kitchen, etc, were pretty neat. I liked that they offered free coffee and tea. There is no curfew either.

Nice smallish hostel in a lively area. Staff and other guests were lovely and helpful. Anything you want staff will try and help you. Rooms were basic but comfy and quiet, kitchen area for cooking and free tea & coffee. You can pick your own bed in the room instead of being assigned one like in most hostels. Would stay here again if I came back to Hamburg.

Great customer service and comfortable beds aswell as a spacious recreational area to relax and a decent kitchen. Even though the location isn't exactly central, it is in a nice lively area with lots to do with a train station less than 10 minutes walk away with trains going to the central station. Overall very pleased

Yelp
Avoid at all costs during the weekend - you will be treated to ear-splittingly loud music from 10PM-5AM from the bar below. I tried to cancel my reservation for the second night because the noise was so extreme (way beyond "backpacker hostel noise disturbances" as mentioned on booking.com), but my request was denied by the hostel.

Yelp
This is Hamburg's oldest backpackers located right in the "cool" heart of town: Schanzenviertel. Instant Sleep is only a walk across the street to the Rote Flora, the legendary cultural centre of lefties, sprayers, punks and other subculturalists. Next door is also Saal II, a great place to tuck into a healthy Hamburg breakfast accompanied by a morning paper. The rooms are all lovelingly decorated around varying themes and there is also a guest kitchen and a lively common room. Prices start at around 25 euro. Staff is only moderately friendly but speaks fluent English.

Yelp
When I visited Hamburg, I looked for a cheap place to stay and the Hall of Dreams 25-bed dormitory at Instant Sleep fit the bill. The hostel is about a 12 minute was from the S- and U-bahn station Sternschanze (although the walk seemed longer with all our luggage) and there is a grocery store along this route in case you want to pick up something to eat or drink. Since my expectations were low, I was pleasantly surprised by the 25-bed room. There were no bunk beds and the room is long and narrow and goes around a corner so only 5 or 6 beds were visible from mine. I had no trouble sleeping, but the rooms are located over a bar so it can be loud pretty late into the night. In general, the hostel seems to operate on a low-cost, low-service philosophy. You make the bed yourself, there is no breakfast, towels are extra. However, the staff is willing to help out if you need something and the necessities seem to be taken care of. When we arrived, the toilets in the Hall of Dreams were out of order and we had to use the downstairs bathroom, but it was back in operation the next day.

Yelp
Very bad hostel. On the main road. Impossible to get any sleep once the traffic starts up. No reception after 10 and no way to retrieve your key deposit until 9 when they open the reception. They do not make the beds and charge total rip off prices to people on new years. When I complained about the noise I was subjected to further abuse like they claimed the police were their bully boys and they chucked me out only returning 1 cent of my money. I wanted to be provided with another bed where I could actually get some sleep but there was nobody there other than some people sleeping on a raised area in the common area by the reception presumably to squeeze out even more money from this worthless property on the main road. They claimed that a nights sleep was too much to ask for and that it was my problem that it was so noisy despite planning on taking 960 euros over the coming weekend for their dorm room.
