On the Grid : Intendente & Anjos

"For years the neglected child of central Lisbon, Intendente is enjoying a lively rebirth. Known for its rough edges, shady economic activities and its multicultural ambience, it's now embracing grit in a positive way. The neighborhood includes one of the city's biggest estates of late 19th century Portuguese-style architecture. Gentrification is well underway, but it is balanced with a thriving activist and cooperative scene. This unique national movement was reborn after the depression because the country's youth didn't give in under tough circumstances." - Hyperakt

Intendente Station on the Lisbon Metro Green Line Intendente is a station on the Green Line (Linha Verde) of the Lisbon Metro. It first opened on September 28, 1966, and is located beneath the busy Avenida Almirante Reis. A key thing to know is that the station is currently not accessible for those who need elevators. A major upgrade project began in January 2024 to install three new elevators, with the goal of making it a fully accessible station. The station's original architecture was designed by Dinis Gomes, and it features the characteristic tilework (azulejos) of the Lisbon Metro, with panels by the renowned artist Maria Keil. For connections, Intendente station provides easy access to several Carris urban bus routes, including the Aerobus #1 which goes to the airport. The famous Tram 28 (28E) also has a stop very close to the station entrance. The station is named after the surrounding area, Largo do Intendente, and serves a vibrant, multicultural neighborhood known for its diverse shops and restaurants. These upgrades are part of a wider plan to modernize the Lisbon Metro network. By Shah - Portugal

It's a great metro station in Lisbon with not much crowed.

This was a great station for both arrival and departure, set in a convenient location five minutes walk from our hotel! The underground curved design is stylish coupled with the lighting and the colourful tiles add a coolness, signs help navigate around the station too. Platforms are well-sized for the six-car units with up to date departure boards and cleanliness was good, although parts of the station are still under development clearly from the last picture.

Historical place, with old architecture, plenty of shops and cafes around as well as tram line, metro and bus stops. Maybe it's better to avoid walking alone very late at night.

Intendente Metro Station in Lisbon is generally reliable and well-connected, serving the Green Line. It’s located on Almirante Reis Avenue and is a convenient stop for accessing various parts of the city. However, the surrounding area has mixed reviews regarding safety, especially at night.

A metro station on the green line from where you can access some fine bars and restaurants on and near the Avenida Almirante Reis, e. g. the well known seafood restaurant Cervejara Ramiro a few hundred metres to the south. The station itself is a bit shabby in comparison to other metro stations, but I didn't feel unsafe there.
