Intendente Station on the Lisbon Metro Green Line
Intendente is a station on the Green Line (Linha Verde) of the Lisbon Metro. It first opened on September 28, 1966, and is located beneath the busy Avenida Almirante Reis.
A key thing to know is that the station is currently not accessible for those who need elevators. A major upgrade project began in January 2024 to install three new elevators, with the goal of making it a fully accessible station.
The station's original architecture was designed by Dinis Gomes, and it features the characteristic tilework (azulejos) of the Lisbon Metro, with panels by the renowned artist Maria Keil.
For connections, Intendente station provides easy access to several Carris urban bus routes, including the Aerobus #1 which goes to the airport. The famous Tram 28 (28E) also has a stop very close to the station entrance.
The station is named after the surrounding area, Largo do Intendente, and serves a vibrant, multicultural neighborhood known for its diverse shops and restaurants. These upgrades are part of a wider plan to modernize the Lisbon Metro network.
