Hands down, the nicest hotel I have stayed at.
The service started the night before. We called to confirm our reservation and spoke with a wonderful front desk staff member named Nicole. She was extremely helpful and supported us with our reservation and information about the hotel. This was a great way to start as we now had a bit of insight of what to expect.
The flight lasted two hours, and then we had to take a train for an hour before we arrived at the hotel. The information she provided helped with identifying the location we were approaching.
When we arrived at the hotel, the staff were fantastic.
We met Camilla, who was extremely: professional, knowledgeable, humorous, informative and insightful. She gave us information about Berlin and the attractions as well as the history of some of the locations. She explained how to experience the Holocaust Memorial to get the most benefit from the design. It was good that we had this information because when we went to the memorial, we benefited so much from it. We interacted with Camilla on several occasions and each time she was professional in speaking to our family as well as what would be good for us to do in the amount of time we were there. Camilla should be the standard of what Front Desk Hotel Staff should be and the team she has with her were fantastic as well.
The hotel itself is gorgeous. There is a big entry hall when you arrive and the staff were all smiling. There is a dining area on the way to the elevators which is lively and the food smelled delicious.
The room was a King Premium and it probably had the nicest bathroom I ever saw in a hotel. There was a bath, toilet with bidet, big sink area and a shower with the option for a waterfall or normal. I've visited friends around the world in major capital cities, and the bathroom was almost as big as some of their rooms.
The actual room was big with a king bed, fold out sofa, and island in the middle of the room with a mini bar, Nespresso machine and kettle. There was also a tv with a swivel so it can be moved so wherever you are in the room can watch it.
The Intercontinental also had a pool and spa which the family enjoyed. The pool was big and had a lot of people in it at one point, but there was enough space. The jacuzzi had whole families sitting in it and this was a nice experience to see so many families enjoying the area.
The actual spa had arched stone/marble lounge chairs, water beds with blankets, an herbal steam and normal steam room, foot bath and sauna. There was another room with ambient lighting, but I did not get a chance to see it. The other facilities listed above were of a high standard. Please do note, as we were told by staff and other guests that some people do walk around nude and use the facilities but they sit on a towel. This is mainly if you are going with children, you are aware. On our visit, there was nothing untoward and the other guests were respectful.
The breakfast was fantastic. The first day we didn't realize there were two different sections, so sat in the kids side. They had options of pancakes, eggs benedict, bacon, a massive selection of fresh fruit, cereals, breads and cured meats. The wait staff were patient and asking us if we would like any drinks, to clean our tables and if they can help with anything.
The second day, we went to the other breakfast area, and WOW! They had a fresh waffle stand, fresh omelette stand, hard boiled eggs to dip bread into and the other options I listed above. The best breakfast (and eggs benedict) I have ever had.
My family and I would go back, and the staff played a huge part in this.
Pros: great staff, great location, great breakfast options, great spa, great room and great overall experience
Cons: none
Please, as always, price is relative so please check the prices before you book and take into consideration the time of year.
My family and I would definitely book again as our stay was short, but please consider Intercontinental Berlin if you are staying in Berlin.
