InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa, French Polynesia - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"The strikingly contemporary InterContinental consists of 80 identical overwater villas, which extend into the warm lagoon like two claws, with the only differences being the views—of the lagoon, the beach, or beyond toward the mythic profile of Bora Bora. Floor-to-ceiling windows, Lucite ceiling fans, big tubs overlooking the water, and bathrooms with black slate floors reflect the clean modern aesthetic throughout, culminating with the Philippe Starck–inspired, all-white Bubbles bar. The atmosphere, too, is more South Beach than South Pacific, down to the stylishly clad reception staff and shirtless tattooed cabana boys by the infinity-edge pool. At the one-of-a-kind Deep Ocean Spa, the first thalassotherapy center in French Polynesia, you’re given a pareu and flip-flops as an alternative to the staid robe and slippers. In a savvy environmental move, the resort pumps in cold seawater to feed the air-conditioning system and for use at the spa."

"InterContinental Bora Bora Thalasso: An Eco-Luxe Honeymoon Machine Visiting the InterContinental Bora Bora Thalasso Resort on assignment, I feel like the only single person from here to Guam. Every year, Bora is voted among the world’s top honeymoon destinations, and right away you realize everything is designed to propagate the human species. The grounds are thick with palm trees and fat ferns leading up to some of the most beautiful water on the planet resembling a translucent creamy liquid light. Every day at 2 p.m., a school of stingrays shows up in knee deep water to be fed by guests. This is highly popular for the dozens of young honeymooners because their Facebook photos come out amazing in the clear water. The star attractions are the 80 overwater villas stretching into the lagoon along four curved wooden piers. Prepare to be blown away. The villas are over 1,000 sf with cathedral beam ceilings, handsome wood furnishings and a huge living room opening out to a large wooden deck. A ladder extends to a second deck perched a couple feet above the water, where you’ll spend a lot of time while other guests kayak by and wave hello. In the center of the villa, my bed faces a floor-to-ceiling window framing the volcano. These particular units were voted “World’s Best View from the Bedroom” on TripAdvisor a few years ago. The hotel can also set you up with a catered romantic dinner for two on the lower deck. Candles, pillows, frangipani flowers, French champagne and lobster soup—who can resist the romance? "Le Corail Restaurant For an elegant island dining experience, opt for an evening at Le Corail at the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa.The formal and contemporary dining room, rightbeside the lagoon, seats only 28 at a time, so themood isintimate and romantic. Tables by the windows, with a view of the resort's overwater wedding chapel, are the most coveted. TheFrench-accented seven-course tasting menu rotates with the seasonsand is plated artfully, in keeping with the modern surroundings. With advance notice, the kitchen can accommodate those with allergies and dietary restrictions. Open six nights a week for dinner, from April to November."

Booked a spa treatment at their renown Deep Blue Spa facility. Apparently, the fitness center and private hot tubs were under maintenance. I wish I would have known this ahead of time before booking a $300 massage for 80 minutes, and then to pay a for a day pass on top of that. It seems half the resort is also under renovation. It would be nice if they fully disclosed the renovations ahead of time that would limit available services/amenities. I feel that I overpaid for their services. The staff were pleasant and nice. The food was good.

My family of 10 stayed at Thalasso for 2 nights. It was a trip of their life, as expressed by our two daughters and their family. |From reservation to arrival, all departments were automatically "CC"ed in my emails. This system is a great idea. Members of different departments knew my needs and responded to questions promptly. I felt like I was meeting my long lost family on arrival. Everything went smoothly. We have no complaints.|We were celebrating three wedding anniversaries. Hotel provided us with wine, fruits, etc. in each of our bungalows. The grandchildren received special treats everyday.|Food was great. Though choices became limited because we did not leave the hotel for meals elsewhere.|We booked a canoe breakfast for one of our daughters and her spouse. It was Very elegantly done: ukele music, boat ride in the lagoon while breakfast was set up on their deck. Food provide was plentiful. |Hotel arranged a lagoon tour for just the family with Lagoon Service Bora Bora. Captain Aro was great especially with the children and me since we have limited snorkeling experience.|Thank you for giving us a great time. You know who you all are at the front desk, guest services and concierge.

Very few hotels can deliver like this one does. Stay here and look no further. The location is amazing, the service is very good and the amenities/facilities are fantastic. We stayed here for 5 nights and honestly wished we had stayed for many more. The private transfer from the airport was a good choice for our family of four. There is an extra charge for it but we highly recommend it. Our two kids enjoyed the stay, especially the free ice cream and feeding the fish. There is a good mix of young couples, some families and some older folks. It's a good match for everyone.

This was my lifelong bucket list destination and wanted it to live up to my fantasy. This resort truly delivered. From the initial communication, the concierge staff was prompt, courteous and eager to assist with all our needs. The location is stunning, with full unobstructed views of the mountain. The bungalows are large, luxurious and well appointed. The property is expansive with lots of beautiful features including a secret garden, overwater wedding chapel, and a pool that overlooks the most amazing views. The staff is friendly, eager to assist and seem committed to delivering a 5 star experience. The food is mostly very good, with the exception of the evening buffet. Prices at the restaurants are high, which is true throughout French Polynesia. We learned that this property will be closing and undergoing a renovation soon and we hope they retain the Polynesian charm and beauty when they re-open. We can’t wait to go back.

I had the pleasure of experiencing a spa treatment at their renown Deep Ocean Spa. The treatment was wonderful. Unfortunately, the rest of the spa facility was closed for maintenance. I wish I would have been informed about this prior to booking my treatment because I don't think I would have paid $300 for a 80 minutes massage if its just for a massage. I was really looking forward to using the hot tub and fitness center. Apparently, half the resort is under renovation. I even paid for a half-day pass too. If they're gonna shut down half the resort, they should at least inform guests ahead of time. The staff were great an helpful. I just really wanted to get the full experience.

Let’s be honest, the views, the water, the service is amazing, 10/10. However, the food? No one out there can honestly tell me they liked the food. For $11k that we paid for 6 nights, and the minimum $150-$300 per meal price, the food should have been Michelin star quality but instead was a mix of French food (which is already terrible tasting) and Tahitian food (not really sure what it really is) that was bland, unsavory, had way too much seasoning, probably to cover the bad quality product. When I spend $2-3k on food in a week, I expect some of the best tasting food out there, and it was not. So, all in all 3/5. 3 for the beauty, service and experience, 0 for the food. Someone please send IGH out here and tell them to do a taste test ASAP. Update: the last night we had prime rib night and I’ve got to say the food was pretty good. Large pieces of meat cooked to perfection. Many delicious sites to choose from. After my original review management came up to us and did a great job of taking care of us. They did everything possible to make sure we had a pleasant remaining couple of days.

We chose this resort to celebrate our honeymoon and expected a level of service and transparency that simply wasn’t delivered. To start, the spa — one of the main reasons we booked — was closed. Not a single person told us. Not the concierge, not the front desk, not the masseuse, not even during check-in. We only found out after receiving our massage. We had planned to spend our final day enjoying the expensive spa facilities, and that experience was completely taken from us without warning or apology. On top of that, I was overcharged and shorted — and despite more than 18 emails and weeks of being told “someone will get back to you,” I’ve received no resolution. It’s now been over 48 hours since the most recent promise of follow-up. Still silence. This was supposed to be a special, once-in-a-lifetime trip. Instead, it left a sour taste. There are far better resorts with better service, transparency, and accountability. I regret booking here.

Truly paradise!||5 stars !||My wife and I just returned from spending eight days at the InterContinental® Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa hotel.||This is our second stay at this resort, and our second stay did not disappoint, and only reinforced the reasons why we were so anxious to return. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here in 2023 and we were so anxious to return we decided to celebrate our 30 years “together” by returning in 2025!||Bora Bora is an unbelievably beautiful destination, however, the InterContinental® Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa hotels location is exceptional and the breathtaking views of Mount Otemanu and the position on the lagoon, we believe is the best in Bora Bora in our opinion.||I will say that this opinion is heavily influenced by, the most exceptional aspect of the resort… and that is the people!||The Beauty, the Location, and being blessed to have the opportunity to check off the bucket list “Overwater Bungalow”, the views , snorkeling around your bungalow and around the resort, tropical fish, sting rays, eagle rays…these all were amazing, but the part that truly blessed us the most was the people who take such amazing care of you while you stay on the Island!. ||I mean everyone…||Everyone, from the General Manager, Front Desk, Restaurant, Bartenders, Pool Staff, Spa , Gift Shop, to those who keep the resort beautiful and clean...they are as kind as can be. Normally, we try to remember names to thank people individually. In this case, we would be naming nearly the entire hotel staff. When we say that everyone was truly kind, we mean truly kind and thoughtful. We also love that the staff was so willing to treat us like family and we enjoyed talking to them and learning about their life on the island. ||There are a few specific names that we will specifically mention, but this does not mean that all the others did not deserve a specific thank you…we had not ONE negative interaction with anyone at this resort (includes our first stay) !||We were met at the dock by the General Manager Nouredine Fardad, who joined the others at the dock to welcome us to the resort, (we love the welcoming and send off tradition of “The Pu”, local blowing a conch shell) , we were introduced to several people at the dock including, Paul Duckit who was the guest relation manager. Mr Fardad was so kind to give us his golf cart to be transported to reception as it was raining at that moment! It was a very kind gesture!||Paul was very kind throughout our stay and arranged for our dinner reservations and attendance a the “Fire Show’ (which we loved). He was very responsive to emails and made many gestures to welcome us to the resort and overall was amazing to deal with.||Yvanui is one of the bartenders who provide drinks at the “happy hour” at Bubbles bar and she was not only a very talented “mixologist” …whose drinks were amazing! She was so very kind to us; we wish we could have spent more time talking to her. She shared with Shelly some places to see and shop on the island and was so very generous in giving her some handmade gifts on the day we were leaving …we were truly touched!||Breakfast was always an amazing experience for us, we were so happy to see so many familiar faces at the breakfast buffet…starting with our friend Terri who took such good care of us on our first visit, when she found out that I was interested in trying some of the local “spicy” items she gave me a bottle of homemade “Peppers in Oil” that she prepared at home from her garden on our first trip …she remembered that I liked those and between her and the amazing Chef’s Laorana and Vero…they made sure to get fresh peppers from the garden and made the most amazing spicy omelets for me every day! ||Even better than the food was all the smiling faces who truly seemed happy to see us every morning and we are missing the sound of ““Ia Ora Na”…the ladies who were so attentive to us every day and introduced me to MOCACHINOS! And I was addicted!||Fanaui and Moises (sorry for the spelling) who take care of everyone by the pool and beach area…they watch everyone and take care of the towels, do cultural demonstrations and Fanaui plays the ukulele and is a pretty good singer!! They work hard but always with a smile!||Capocine works at the front desk (reception, check in and check out) and she was also super helpful and took the time to explain everything very thoroughly and to share with us about what brought her to the island!||Everyone at the concierge was excellent…we neglected to write down the name of the young lady that assisted us with getting the rental car but she was very sweet and very smart…fluent in 4 languages!||The housekeeping ladies were also very kind and kept our room immaculate and well stocked! They also wrote us daily notes on the mirror, and we loved seeing those after returning to the room!||We were sad to leave the resort and the people who felt like our friends and who treated us so amazing. The sound of the “Pu” blowing as we left in the boat transfer was a little sad! (oh yeah the boat captains were also super nice!)||I could write more... but in closing …Bora Bora is expensive, but with the views, experience, and the people... it is worth it!||Thank you!!||Mauru'uru roa,!! ||To everyone.||Lyman and Shelly Watson
