InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa, an IHG Hotel (Portsmouth, Dominica) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"At the edge of the lush Cabrits National Park, on the island’s north end, the InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa is the sort of full-featured luxury resort that’s remarkably rare here; thanks to its unique location and its relative seclusion, it offers an unusually self-contained experience. Its rooms are substantial in their comforts and tastefully modern in their design, and the best ones have views of the extinct volcano at the heart of Cabrits. A large spa and fitness center and a beach-style swimming pool are among the daytime diversions, and the dining venues include the Kwéyòl Beach Restaurant and Bar." - Tablet Hotels

For those wanting top notch service, amazing staff and relaxation amidst one of the most unspoiled settings in the Caribbean, this is it. Dominica offers amazing nature and some interesting historical sites like Fort Shirley which is located within Cabrits National Park right next to the property. The island is volcanic so it lacks the white sand beaches people often equate the Caribbean with but the ocean here (including the one in front of the hotel which one can easily dive into from a pier) makes up big time for it — turquoise water, whale watching year-round and great reefs. The hotel is run by Mr Ramy Haykal, perhaps the most engaging and kind property manager I have ever met. His management style, innovative ideas (he recently added bikes to ride around the property) and enthusiasm seems to have a very positive effect in every staff member and the property as a whole, and as a result, the service is simply top notch. The size of their swimming pools (there are many) are incredible. This is a peaceful place but with the opportunity to do a lot: tennis, spa — incredible, excursions and top among them, some of the spectacular hikes. Kudos to this property and his whole staff.

The hotel is sublime and very well maintained. The Ocean sea view room was also lovely and comfortable. The staff as a whole were always polite and sociable, which helped us to settle in and make the most of the place. As for the food, both breakfast and dinner... really excellent. The dishes were tasty and well seasoned. We were surprised by the rates, but I guess it's like eating in a top restaurant. The only negative point that is not the hotel's fault is the guests. We had the bad luck to run into racist customers. When we arrived at the pool, our presence seemed to bother them but we didn't pay any attention to it. The moment my partner entered the pool, they looked at each other, grabbed their things and settled down on a deckchair overlooking another pool where all the other white customers were. So as blacks, we were able to take full advantage of the pool alone like VIPs.

A stunningly beautiful property in Dominica. We thoroughly enjoyed walking along the garden paths, riding the bikes around the property and swimming in the pools. Our room was large and extremely comfortable. An amazing mountain view from the balcony with a small couch and table to sit at and enjoy the scenery. We stayed a total of 10 nights and ate several times in the restaurants and bar. The food selection and options on the dinner menu was excellent and the quality of the food was outstanding. Service at breakfast and dinner was variable depending on the server. The food at the breakfast restaurant was very good but not as outstanding as the food at dinner. The housekeeping staff were professional, friendly and helpful. We loved the entertainment program including the live music and yoga classes. The fitness center was top notch. While we went on several day excursions, given the fairly challenging driving conditions, if we were staying for fewer days we would have never left the property. It was so beautiful.

Our experience was really great. Service was amazing. The manager Samar was very sweet. Restaurant breakfast and pool, both were good. Rooms were clean and all new. AC works amazing, beds are good as well. I would come back 100% and I fully recommend it.

Spending a full month at the InterContinental Dominica was incredibly special—combining breathtaking nature, thoughtful hospitality, outstanding food, and a sense of calm that’s rare to find. The culinary program was a highlight. Executive Chef Hussein and Chef Banda are masters of their craft, often bringing herbs straight from the garden to elevate each dish with fresh, vibrant flavors. Breakfast became a daily ritual. During my 30-day stay, Chef Hussein came up with 30 different ways to prepare my eggs, making every morning feel like a fun surprise. One of my favorite dishes was Chef Banda’s seared tuna with coconut rice in a rich curry sauce—perfectly balanced and beautifully cooked. Pastry chef Hasitha also took wonderful care of us, regularly creating generous dessert spreads. One night he asked if we had any requests; when I mentioned chocolate lava cake, he made it for us—served warm with coconut ice cream. It was one of the best lava cakes I’ve ever had. The Valentine’s Day dinner was another standout: a beautifully executed five-course tasting menu with an exceptional surf-and-turf main of lobster tail and perfectly cooked sirloin that rivaled some of the best meals I’ve had in NYC. The Sunday lunch buffet was also a weekly highlight with a great variety of local and international dishes. The wellness offerings added so much to the stay. Toni’s yoga, Pilates, and sound healing classes were grounding and energizing. She also performed music twice a week at dinner at Kweyole, often playing our favorite songs and creating warm, intimate evenings. Entertainment throughout the week was fantastic. Monday night salsa classes were lively and fun, and Saturday nights by the firepit had great music and an amazing atmosphere under the stars. Some of the best moments were simple ones. Paul and Keyon would bring chairs to our favorite spot by the water where we could relax and take in the view. The ocean was often a stunning teal, and jumping off the pier led to incredible snorkeling in clear water filled with marine life. The resort has a uniquely peaceful atmosphere. There were always quiet places to sit and relax, and the island of Dominica itself feels beautifully untouched. The gardens throughout the property are stunning, filled with plumerias, gardenias, banana trees, and countless tropical plants. What truly made the stay unforgettable was the people. Waseem was incredibly thoughtful—even offering to go to the market to find me a softer toothbrush. The entire team served with genuine warmth. And Ramy, the general manager, deserves special recognition. He truly understands five-star hospitality and leads with care that clearly shapes the culture of the resort. By the end of the month, we genuinely felt like part of the family. It was a rare and beautiful experience defined by exceptional hospitality, incredible food, joyful activities, and the natural magic of Dominica.

This hotel could have been a 10/10 but there are a few things that they need to improve upon. The pickup from the airport was horrible. The hotel hired an outside company and the company did not hold up a sign to let us know that we were supposed to drive with them. Instead they just stood outside and looked at us while we were wondering where our driver was and we had to contact the hotel to find out what was going on. The hotel described the guy and we had to ask him if he was our driver. This is not standard for an airport pickup. The hotel does in fact have dedicated drivers and nice vehicles bc when it was time for us to go back to the airport one was provided. Why didn’t the hotel do the same at arrival? Also, the wait staff at the restaurant Kreyol needs more training. Do not bring out the app and dinner at the same time unless the diner specifically requests this. After we ate our main course it took forever for the staff to ask us about dessert. Our server was doing some type of kitchen duties and was too busy for us. When a person came to take our plates we asked him for our server but he walked right past her and did not tell her we needed her. We paid our bill on the spot instead of putting it on the room tab so when it came time for us to pay it took like another 15 to 20 minutes for them to bring the check. Maybe I should rate the service portion lower I don’t know since the rest of the hotel staff was great.

Our stay at the InterContinental Cabrits Resort & Spa Dominica was nothing short of extraordinary — a truly unforgettable experience that exceeded every expectation. The leadership here is exceptional. Special thanks to Ramy, whose energy, vision, and constant presence throughout the property are clearly driving this resort to a world-class level. He is always visible, engaged with staff and guests, improving processes and ensuring best guest experiences — a true example of Jim Collins’ philosophy of putting the right person in the right role. His emotional intelligence, sharp intellect, and tireless commitment set the tone for a culture of genuine care and excellence. What was meant to be a two-week stay quickly turned into a full month. That alone says everything. The culinary experience is exceptional. Executive Chef Hussein creates miracle dishes infused with creativity, precision, and so much heart — every meal feels personal and prepared with care and love. The five course Valentine’s Day dinner was an extraordinary masterpiece. A true fine dining experience in both taste and presentation, one would find in the finest restaurants. Chef Banda is equally remarkable — consistently excellent and always eager to make guests happy, no matter the request. Their care and dedication transformed dining into one of the highlights of our stay. They also went far above and beyond to accommodate my special dietary restrictions. Breakfast buffet each morning is a joy — abundant fresh tropical fruits, cheeses, made-to-order omelets seasoned with herbs from the hotel’s organic garden, crispy waffles, pancakes, fresh juices, and irresistible croissants from the talented pastry chef. Similarly, dinners were most delicious and varied from fresh mahi-mahi, tuna, and lamb chops, to local traditional dishes and sushi. The grounds are stunning — lush, serene, and beautifully maintained — blending seamlessly into the breathtaking natural surroundings. Sweeping views of blue water framed by lush hills and mountains make this feel like a hidden paradise. Weather permitting, you can swim or snorkel right in front of the resort and easily experience the vibrant marine life — truly magical. The staff make everything even more special. Waseem in housekeeping responded to every request and brought everything we asked for quickly and with genuine kindness. Toni filled our evenings with beautiful live music and a voice that created the perfect dinner atmosphere. Hardworking Sudhakar always greeted us with a smile and served us with joy. And Paul went above and beyond — even carrying our lounge chairs and umbrella to the very end of the pier and bravely diving into the ocean to retrieve them when wind and waves swept them away. That level of dedication and care is unforgettable. This resort is a rare sanctuary — luxurious, peaceful, and surrounded by extraordinary natural beauty and people who make you feel so welcomed. We loved our time in this little paradise we can’t wait to come back!

We had an amazing stay at the Intercontinental. Everything felt new and spotless — especially the bathrooms and bedrooms. The food was excellent with both Dominican and international options, plus live music every night. Room service was quick, the pool area was clean, and the hotel even provided bug spray in each room. Breakfast was high quality with lots to choose from. The spa was outstanding and very reasonably priced, and the gym was modern and well-equipped. Highly recommend!
