InterContinental Johannesburg O.R.Tambo Airport, an IHG Hotel

InterContinental Johannesburg O.R.Tambo Airport [JNB] We stayed one night at the Intercontinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport between flights from the U.S. and a shorter flight to a smaller safari airport. It was right across the airport driveway from the international arrivals hall. Just a 5 minute walk at best. The hotel itself was nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly. Our check-in was quick and we found our room quickly. We had a beautiful king suite with plenty of room. It was decorated very elegantly. The bathroom was very large with separate shower and bath. The room had a coffee station with coffee and a nice assortment of teas. Several bottles of water were provided. We ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Both times the service was very good and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend the Intercontinental for a convenient layover location for JNB. It was a great place to recover from the long flights to South Africa.

Well you can’t get more convenient than this for location. After a very delayed arrival from Australia, we were through customs and immigration in less than half an hour. We had time for a quick swim in the lovely pool before collapsing in the very comfortable bed in an extremely quiet room. Next morning we enjoyed a delicious and generous breakfast cheerily served by Wonder. What professional and friendly service he provided. Much appreciated. A quick walk across the road and we were back at the airport for our next flight. I have stayed three times now and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Highly recommend.

Intercontinental OR Tambo was incredible. When I originally booked here I was a little resentful of the price tag compared to other hotels nearby, but thought it would be worth it not to have to deal with 30+ hours of travel (coming from California) and then have to shuttle to a more distant hotel likely with less amenities. I am SO glad I paid a little more to stay here. We had some pretty horrendous flight cancelations and reroutes in Europe and some luggage drama before arriving in Joburg, so when we finally did arrive, to be able to just walk out of the arrivals terminal, cross the street and check in was such a huge relief, so convenient. Service and Hospitality in South Africa is always fantastic in my opinion, and this place is no exception. All the employees were so friendly and helpful, very eager to grab a cart or bag, show us the way, give us information, etc. We arrived at least 5 hours before our check in time, but for a small fee (after 30-35 hours any price would have been worth it) they let us check in immediately. Within 15 min of arriving we and our bags were up in our suite room, which was lovely. I hate feeling dirty in a hotel room and will quickly find things that aren’t clean right away, and there was none of that here. We spent the rest of the afternoon sleeping off our jet lag in our large cozy bed and ordering room service. The food from the downstairs restaurant served up to the room was so delicious, and it never took more than 15 minutes to arrive. We were so wrecked from the journey we never took the time to enjoy the pool or spa amenities, but we did pop upstairs to see, and it was a really lovely area. And heated pool, which is not something you get a lot of with pools in Africa! We had a domestic flight the next morning and at check out the bell hop was kind enough to get us a cart, walk us all the way across the street, into the airport to the Airlink check-in desk, and hand the attendant our bags. You can tell they really pride themselves on total service, and we really felt that throughout our short but lovely stay. I would not hesitate to stay here again, despite its heftier price tag compared to some other nearby places. Totally worth it.

I have stayed many times at this lovely hotel. It is located literally 1-2 minutes walk from when you exit the terminal. Just roll your baggage cart here. After a long-haul flight from Europe it's such a nice stay before you continue on, or before you take the long-haul home. It used to have a large outdoor patio but has now expanded the restaurant so only two tables available outdoors. A bit sad but I guess it makes business sense. Outdoor seating is dependent on the weather and weather here change by the hour.||||What I appreciate the most is the welcome. You really feel so welcomed by a staff second to none. The room has everything you need and of course excellent sleep quality. If you don't want to dine in the restaurant, the room-service menu is extensive. The bar adjacent to the restaurant is very cool and relaxed.||||You might think that this is purely a business hotel but it's not. When I have stayed here I often see families and tourists. It's just a perfect place for relaxing between/before flights. Thank you IC JNB, I will be back!

This hotel is fantastic and perfect for an overnight stay if you’re flying in or out of JNB. It’s so convenient to be able to just walk out of the terminal and be right there at your hotel. Obviously it cost a little more than some other hotels, but it’s worth every penny. The staff are super professional and friendly, from the front door to check in to housekeeping and the restaurant and bar service staff..they are awesome. Food is fantastic, drinks are great, rooms are spacious and comfortable, beds and bedding are top notch, bathrooms are great, etc etc. highly recommended, I stay there everytime I overnight in Jberg for flights out of JNB.

Checkin was fast and efficient. My bags almost beat me to my room. Staff was friendly and happy. Our room was very clean and full of basic needs. There were plenty of space to relax as we had a 10 hour wait before our flight left. Thank you all for the excellent service. Quills restaurant had excellent food and service.

The location is perfect for transit travelers, the staff are very helpful, the rooms are very clean and functional, and the most pleasant surprise is how quiet it is for a hotel that is so close to (practically on the grounds of) a very busy international airport! I travel frequently for business and for leisure and I have stayed at many airport hotels and I have never experienced a hotel this quiet! I did not hear a single plane during my 2 day stay!!
