InterContinental Johannesburg O.R.Tambo Airport by IHG

The proximity of this hotel to the airport - probably only 100m away by foot makes it so alluring after a long flight. I have taken to using this hotel at the end of every trip to Africa. Consistently they have lovely rooms which are spacious, with great air conditioning and good blockout blinds. The beds are so soft and comfy. I always feel safe there. I opt for the junior suite as they really give me the space to relax. The only negative - no executive lounge. Quills which they use as their restaurant downstairs always has good options. The staff are always friendly.

I stay here every year. Great hotel. Food and service are great. They have a great spa on the 8th floor. I just had the best deep tissue massage of my life by Rebone. Hands down best massage of my life. Wow. If you have a few hours to kill before your flight. I highly recommend a pit stop here.

An absolutely amazing experience at this beautiful hotel. From the moment you walk in they are very attentive & helpful. The food & coffee was some of the best I’ve ever had. Hotel was clean & felt very safe. A perfect stop for reprieve from long travel. 10/10 recommend.

This is strictly about the quality of coffee in the main lounge. I did not stay overnight and have no experience of the larger hotel. I stopped in for a coffee while waiting to take a flight from the airport. I’ve been to many intercontinental hotels around the world. Coffee in the main lounge should be a five star experience as this is the first point of entry for many people. The cappuccino came cold and I sent it back, opting for a filter coffee with hot milk on the side. The filter coffee itself was hot at least but the coffee was of inferior quality and the milk was clearly not fresh but of the ultra pasteurized variety. For fifty Rand at a five star hotel I would expect the coffee beans to be of superior quality and the milk to be fresh. The service staff was perfectly good and happily swapped my coffee. So these comments are only directed to hotel management. Look into your coffee standards please. We all have access to excellent coffee at hundreds of locations. I won’t be back I’ll just go to a place where a competent barista is making top notch coffee with fresh beans and good milk.

Food was delicious and all the staff were amazing. The hotel is steps from|the airport. No need for transportation. Thank you very much to Lilian and Wonder for their outstanding service at lunch. We had 4 meals at the Quills Restaurant and they were all amazing. Don’t have all the staffs name but they were all very good. Only stayed one night. Highly recommend a massage at the spa. Great way to end our vacation and start our long journey home to Canada.

We stayed here for one night between Sabi Sabi and our flight home. Rooms are very nice. The restaurant Quill was excellent and our server Cello was attentive and nice. Kitchen was a bit slow but the dishes were worth the wait. Next day we had a late flight and unfortunately we had to vacate the room by noon. No late check outs because they were quite busy. So we decided to go up to the Camelot Spa on the eight floor to hang out and wait. Just so happens they had openings for a couples massage. It the best decision ever! We picked the deep tissue massage. Albertina and Thandi both did an excellent job. The prices are very reasonable. We would have asked for two hours if they had the time. If you are staying here in transit or otherwise. Rather than stay in the airport lounge, come up to here! This is the best way to spend a couple hours to relax and recharge. Sat in the steam room after the massage to let the oils do their job. Showers are clean and there’s also a swimming pool if you are so inclined. Totally exceeded my expectations

We had an absolutely lovely stay at the InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo! Even though we were only there for one night, everything about our experience was exceptional. The staff are some of the friendliest and most welcoming we’ve ever met. Our room was spacious, spotless, and incredibly quiet—exactly what we needed before our flight. The location couldn’t be more convenient—it’s literally just steps from the airport, which made everything so easy for us. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and both the food and drinks were outstanding. We had dinner at Quills, and it was to die for! Breakfast the next morning included both a buffet and entrée options, and everything was absolutely delicious. Our server was so kind and attentive (I wish I could remember his name!). To make our stay even more special, guest relations surprised us with a romantic honeymoon setup—roses, a slice of chocolate cake, and a bottle of wine. It was such a thoughtful touch and really showed how much they care about their guests. The hospitality here is truly outstanding. When we returned a week later for a quick layover, the team actually remembered us and even recalled details about our trip—that level of care is rare and so appreciated. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. If you’re flying through Johannesburg, this hotel is an absolute gem!

Everything at the intercontinental was INCREDIBLE, even down to the smell of the room. Services was wonderful from beginning to end, food was fabulous and everyone was so kind and caring. 1000% would stay here again on a trip to South Africa! Check in wasn’t until 2 so we walked across to the City Lodge to use the pool for the day before checking into our room and it was perfect!
