InterContinental Kunming (Kunming, Yunnan Province) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The InterContinental Hotels Group is one of the biggest names in luxury hospitality, and encompasses everything from typically lavish city-center luxury hotels to one-of-a-kind resorts in relatively far-flung locales. The InterContinental Kunming is, strangely enough, a bit of both — it’s set within the limits of the city of Kunming itself, but rather than some city-center skyscraper, it finds itself in the quasi-rural lakeside district known as the Dianchi National Holiday Resort." - Tablet Hotels

It was my first trip to Kunming on September 2025 and was lucky to stay in this hotel. The hotel is well located with a lot of wards like a tennis court. The room was perfect and loved the bathlub style. I was granted some lovely amenities. The restaurant buffet was excellent especially during breakfast and dinner. I loved the fitness room and the spa. The staffers were attentive and reactive to any question. Even if some wouldn't speak English but they would do their best to help you up or anwer your requests. I sure recommend it to anyone who would love to visit a city where spring is all through the year and a tasty local tea.

Service was good except for IHG check in which was rushed through by a female staff. There wasn’t even a queue behind us.The rest like concierge & restaurant staff were ok…patient. A concierge male staff helped me with my McDonald’s delivery because as a foreigner , I couldn’t use Mei Tuan for food delivery. He even offered to deliver to our room as we are seniors in our 60s.The photography package was fast and efficient.Hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the numerous restaurants outside and Dianchi.

Staff can’t understand much English even at the reception. The breakfast restaurant was not well kept. Stains could be seen in many places. Some of the salt and pepper shakers were completely empty as if no one ever checked. Food was average. Housekeeping staff was not informed on customers’ needs. The room was stuffy and not prepared for guest arrival…. The one thing we noticed was that the floor in the bathroom was heated. That was the only plus we experienced in this hotel. Overall, it is not reflecting itself as a 5-star hotel.

Will start woth the positives. Amazing location, most of the staff were very kind and helpful, the gardens are fantastic and the play area is great when waiting between outings, the room was spacious enough for a family of 4.Unfortunately the hotel left a sour taste though. During checking the reception staff decided to stop communication in English and instead to speak chinese to my partner although she had nothing to do with the trip organising and proceeded to ignore my questions until my wife asked again in chinese. We were not told any of the usual check in information such as WiFi, breakfast times, facilities, etc.Our room wasn't ready at 2:30pm as the previous tenants just checked out, told to wait 40 minutes. Waited an hour and a half, no check ups, no apology. We tried to get a late lunch at the market (all day dining) it is infact not all day, it's only breakfast and dinner. We got to the room, it had ***** hair and blood in the toilet. Broken electrical outlet with the facade falling off (very dangerous for a family room) and water damage on the wall. The cleaners did do an amazing job in the following days. Breakfast and dinner and the market had undercooked meat causing myself and my wife to get food poisoning and spend the next 24 hours stuck in the room being sick. The children's play areas floor it broken with no warning and my child tripped and hurt her self. We have stayed at many intercontinental hotels and not experienced staff this before, especially from receptionist. Luckily the rest of the staff were amazing and the general facilities were ok. We hope it was just a bad day for them and we will be staying at intercontinental again for the next leg of our trip in xishuangbanna.

Great hotel and top service staff. Shelly from the front desk was very helpful and caring. We had a very good experience at the photoshoot session arranged by hotel. Photographer Qiqi was very professional and we absolutely loved our photos and experience.

It is suite well for family. We like the garden so much. They also offer a free picture taken around the hotel. We love it. The breakfast was okay. The dinner has many choices of restaurants. The room is big, nice, and very clean. The bed is comfortable.

Nice hotel as always InterContinental. Good location, close to the promenade and the seagulls. Staff speaks English. Helped us get outside the marathon area. because all the streets were blocked and TAXI were not running.

Lovely gardens, difficult to find even one staff that speak basic English so thank goodness my partner speaks Mandarin. The pool feels extremely governed and full of locals. Older men and women swimming hacking their lungs out by spitting at each end of the pool, a man gurgling and spitting out water loudly into the rubbish bin, very disgusting and too busy. Life guard telling me I need a swim hat for my baby who has next to no hair and his head is not near the water. Does not feel like a nice hotel pool but a very governed public pool. Have stayed in multiple IHG lounges worldwide...have just tested out the afternoon tea here. It was below average. Stale sandwiches, fishy tasting tuna on soggy bread. The hotel needs a proper outdoor resort style pool. We spend our days taking ten minutes to get anywhere...rooms are ridiculously far from the restaurants, pool and lobby. Staff at reception and concierge working hard and friendly. Overall a lot of room for improvement.
