Starting with the positives |- splash out on the water taxi. It's worth every penny! We landed, collected our bags, and were in the water taxi in 15 mins which was amazing. We landed at night so didn't get to see the view but it was much quicker than travelling by road. When we left it was daytime and the views are incredible |- we were upgraded to an over water bungalow. We stayed in room 1 which was great - not overlooked, close to the shore and lovely. If you can afford it - do it! The room was lovely- Nespresso coffee machine, really comfortable bed and pillows, nice bath and separate shower, great air conditioning and fans, incredible view of the mountain. Each bungalow has its own bit of coral reef under it so you can watch the fish - as well as the opening glass table which we loved!|- the snorkeling is fabulous! The lagoon doesn't get too deep and generally the current is gentle. It got much higher on 1 day with strong currents due to a seasonal swell but the hotel kept us well informed. So many types of fish, urchins, star fish as well as sting rays which are inquisitive!|- loved the private sun deck and access into the water|- amazing to watch the sun rise and you can watch sunset from the public beach which is directly across the road from the hotel|- free water bottle! Tap water is drinkable. |- staff are attentive and friendly. They speak excellent English. Really excellent service |- the bar has happy hour cocktails which are nice. We also had snacks from the bar instead of dinner - the chicken tenders were excellent as was the garlic bread|- the lagoon is warm and crystal clear (usually). Bring reef shoes, a snorkel mask and underwater camera and enjoy the snorkeling|- the hotel has snorkle masks and a range of water equipment you can use|- the site is well maintained, beautifully kept gardens and a stunning beach||The not quite as positive|- breakfast is very expensive, although it has a lovely range of food which is delicious |- the buffet and Polynesian dancing was nice but VERY expensive. I'm not sure its worth £75 per person|- ask for tap water at dinner otherwise you get charged for bottled water which is not necessary |- take some water in the water taxi on the way back to the airport as this is not available. ||Go to the shop down the road - through the hotel, turn right and then right again. The room has a fridge which is really useful. ||Join IHG before you go and then give them your IHG number. This gets you good discounts at the hotel.||If in doubt, book the best room you can afford - the OWB are amazing and the highlight of our trip. A really special stay in this hotel.||Bora Bora is very expensive but this is understandable as everything is shipped in. It's an amazing place on earth! The view from the airport is the best in the world. Just book it as you won't regret it.
