InterContinental Madrid, an IHG Hotel

I visited in the afternoon for tea and drinks with friends and was immediately impressed by the bar and sitting room decor. The ambiance exudes the charm of an old luxury hotel, which made me feel completely at ease. Since the weather was pleasant, we opted to sit on the terrace outside, which was a perfect choice. The staff were warm, attentive, and made the experience even better. I highly recommend this place for a relaxing and elegant outing.

Even though I interact with this hotel in Spanish I'll write this in English: ||I have stayed in this hotel a few times from last year and this year (last time was just in July 2024 aka last month) and everytime it has been wonderful. ||It is a historic hotel with a great location on Madrid's Castellana with Barrio Salamanca at its doorstep. Madrid as a whole is not that big and much of the city's attractions (and for those here for business) it is a very convenient location to access various points of the city. ||Rooms are classy and all aspects of the decor. The gym is sufficient. The garden (which is open mainly in the summer) is beautiful. Given the design of the building, many of the rooms overlook the garden aka they mostly have balconies. ||A special shoutout to the staff who have been very nice to me. Special shoutouts include to Susana (thank you for always for making my stay wow and for being accomodating). Thank you as well to Beatriz, Montse, Inmaculada, yelisa, laura, etc and the rest of the club room staff and front desk (sorry i didn't get all your names)!||Also - thanks to the concierge especially to Alejandro, David, Carlos, Andres and the rest (sorry again I didn't get all your names). ||A special thanks as well to the main restaurant and all the staff there for being friendly and welcoming as well. Amazing stay at InterContinental|Madrid, the moment you walk in you notice how beautiful the hotel is. A magnificent historic hotel, sophisticated and rich in old world charm and splendor. Absolutely fabulous check in process it was splendid thanks to the staff, extremely professional, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Being a Diamond Elite Ambassador our stay got even better, we were delightfully upgraded to a King Ambassador Club Balcony Suite. The suite was spectacular, luxurious, spacious, elegant and offered exceptional comfort, peace and privacy. Stunning dark-oak carved king bed, comfortable with high quality bedding and furnishings. The room was immaculately clean. Fantastic spacious marble bathroom with double washbasin, separate bathtub and shower, and all the amenities one could wish for. We loved the balcony overlooking the main street it was huge and well equipped with a sun lounger and patio furniture perfect space to enjoy alfresco morning coffee and late-night drinks.|InterContinental Club Lounge is one of the best we have visited great appetizers, snacks and drinks. The staff are welcoming and are intuitive in their service, atmosphere was calm and nice.|The breakfast at El Jardin restaurant is superb a feast, the choice and quality of the breakfast was very good. The best tasting cup of coffee. Impressed with the service that we received friendly and attentive, making our experience even more enjoyable. Especially enjoyed the Cava with fresh orange juice.|The ambiance, style, service and location of the InterContinental Madrid was marvellous and it exceeded our expectations. |Thank you InterContinental Madrid for making our stay truly memorable.

This is a dated hotel where the rooms are old like American motels - grandma carpets, furnitures, tables, chairs, sofa, lamp even the power plugs are terribly positioned. What they excel in is their staff. The club lounge ladies especially Laura has been extremely helpful. She called at the outlets that might have my special climbing boots, ask for details that are relevant and very proactive and fast. Moreover, she's always cheerful and approachable. Susana the Guest relations manager was very fast to react. We had a some issues with our junior suite room and she address to the next day and upgraded us to a very nice room. ||Intercontinental Barcelona and Madrid club room are disappointing when it comes to their happy hour hot food. They were poor quality and limited. What I like is their alcohol is free flow from 12pm-10pm.||Location of intercontinental Madrid is not at central of action but you can walk ~5min. to hop on and hop off bus. Also taxi is cheap and easy to find. ||They have a spacious gym 24hrs, would be great if they can include some roller and some rubber bands for exercising. Only had a sauna hiding in the gym. ||Overall we enjoy our stay here as most staff are always ready to help.

Stayed here in November 2023 around US Thanksgiving break. Stayed 3 nights and all I can say to describe our stay is "fine." Everything was fine, nothing really stood out. The rooms and decor did feel dated. I really enjoyed the Byredo bath products, and the shower had decent pressure.||We did have lounge access that we used for breakfast. The attendant in there 2/3 mornings we went in for breakfast wasn't the nicest. I saw another guest that was headed out reach in to one of the fridges that had bottled water, take one and walk out. I thought water bottles were fair game, so as I went to grab one, I was admonished by the attendant and told I could not take it out of the lounge. He was not very nice about it (I speak fluent Spanish so there was no language issue) and made me feel like I was a child getting in trouble. I explained that I saw another guest take a bottle and he was just rude about it. It left me with a sour feeling. There could have been a better way of addressing me without making me feel like I was being punished. ||Other than that, it was an ok stay, nothing to write home about. I will say, whatever scent they use throughout the hotel smelled really good.

This is my fourth time staying at the Intercontinental Madrid; 3 times back in 2008/2009, and just recently. I decided to stay here again based on previous experiences, but this will be the last time. It lost its grandness. Plenty of new 5* luxury properties in Madrid.||The location is great right on Castellana. The hotel is in dire need of a major renovation, nothing has really changed since the last time I stayed here in 2008/2009. We stayed in a junior suite (or what they call a family room) with Club Lounge access.||Breakfast buffet had plenty of options to choose from, hot and cold, and the service was rather friendly. One night we had dinner at the hotel, and it was disastrous. Two of the dishes they brought out we didn't order, but we were very hungry, so we had to settle. Service was that of a 2* restaurant. To make it up, they brought us "dessert" on the house; a couple of croissants with 2 small Nutella-like kid-size plastic containers. Not what you would expect from a luxury 5* property that often caters to diplomats. ||The Club lounge was fine, quiet most of the time because of low occupancy. We didn't get to spend a lot of time at the lounge as we were out most of the time, but I did visit a number of times to drink some Cava. ||It didn't really bother me that they didn't acknowledge our special occasion, what bothered me the most, aside from the overall condition of the hotel, is the attitude of the staff, with the exception of Daniel at the Club Lounge.||I had great memories in 2008/2009 at the IC Madrid, but sadly this will our last time there.

luxurious yet friendly and welcoming hotel. Upon arrival, front desk with very hospitable. Room is great - spacious and comfortable. Concierge was AMAZING - providing us with exactly all of the information we needed in a clear way. Best surprise was dinner at the hotel (we were too tired / lazy to go out after travelling). Dinner was served professionally and elegantly - and was absolutely delicious.

The overall feel and décor of the Madrid IC is on the “traditional” side – a lot of wood panelling and slightly over-the-top furnishings. It’s starting to look a bit dated, although everything is well maintained and works.||Check-in in the Club Lounge was very efficient and friendly – Ivan was super charming, helpful and got us an Ambassador Suite overlooking the Paseo de la Castellana.||The suite was of a good size and in good shape. Despite overlooking a busy street it was quiet. The bed was comfortable and large. Oddly one side of the bed did not have any power sockets at all, which was quite annoying. The air conditioning was quiet and efficient, and the blackout curtains did their job. Wi-Fi speeds were acceptable.||The bathroom featured a bathtub and shower room and everything worked well. The shower room did leak extensively when used.||We had breakfast in both the Club Lounge and the main restaurant. The former offered some made-to-order egg dishes, but had a smaller buffet selection. Overall I wasn’t super impressed by the breakfast offering – it was the sort of selection you’d expect at a 5* hotel, but to serve rehydrated scrambled egg when charging 400 Euros per night is just criminal.||Francisco Javier in the Club Lounge could not have been more accommodating and helpful – a great asset to the company.||The location is not super central, but was still convenient for everything we wanted to do.||Definitely one of the better ICs out there and I’d consider returning.
