InterContinental Resort Jiuzhai Paradise (Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan Province) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Any question about whether the word “paradise” is warranted should be put to rest by a look at the Jiuzhaigou Valley; the mountainous backdrop for the InterContinental Resort Jiuzhai Paradise is nothing short of spectacular. This ultra-modern steel-and-glass structure is immersed in dense forest, and is set just a few minutes’ drive from the Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve, which is, somehow, even more wild and picturesque." - Tablet Hotels

Our tour group stayed in the hotel for 2 days in July 2025. On date 25, just right after we checked in at around 7pm we went to the restaurant to have our dinner, we found that all the dishes were placed on the table without cover, the dishes and rice were not warm at all. After dinner, we back to our rooms, we felt very hot no matter outside or inside the rooms, and then we tried to set the air-conditioner, but in vain. We called the front desk for checking, they replied that no this facility in this weather, and just recommended us to open the balcony door and would feel better.... How come a 5-star hotel would not provide nice accomdation for their guest! Besides, the card key system could not duplicate workable card, for my case, I was unlucky to replace twice, finally they gave us three cards to try. Meanwhile, I need to go down and up for several times. Some of our groupmates told me that they had the same trouble. Really very bad experience in these two days!!!

We recently stayed at this beautiful resort and had a truly relaxing and enjoyable experience. The environment is absolutely stunning — lush gardens, tranquil surroundings, and well-maintained facilities that make you feel close to nature while still being pampered. The hospitality was top-notch. From the moment we arrived, the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and genuinely warm, which added a personal touch to our stay. Housekeeping and front desk staff were especially attentive and courteous. However, one area that could improve is the Wi-Fi coverage. The connection was quite spotty in our room and around some parts of the resort. This was a bit inconvenient, especially for guests who need to stay connected. Overall, it’s a wonderful place to unwind, with great service and a peaceful atmosphere. If they can enhance their internet connectivity, it would be close to perfect.

We stayed a couple nights in a two bedroom suite. The suite was lovely and the hotel itself is impressive in scale. I’m not sure if it is because we went during the off season but there was a feeling of abandonment within the entire premise. There are 5 restaurants advertised as open but most were closed when we went so we were glad we didn’t stay more than 2 nights or we would’ve exhausted dining options (expensive and average in taste). Our suites were also supposed to have lounge access but this was all closed when we stayed and we were instead given vouchers for free beverages. On a positive note, the hot springs are wonderful.

Our whole family absolutely loved the property! The building itself is a stunning architect. The staff at the reception, especially Tony made welcomed us with impeccable service! His friendliness and always going the extra mile spirit made our trip unforgettable. The performance at evenings at the Tibetan bar was amazing, will definitely come back again!

The room is amazing. The view is unbeatable. Unfortunately that’s where the positives end. The list of negatives is longer than the number of words are allowed in this review. Here are a few highlights of the bad. 1) Of the 6 restaurants, only 1 is opened. 2) The lounge that I paid with points for, is closed. 3) The pool is extra and chargeable. Only hotel I ever stayed at, let alone an Intercontinental, had the pool chargeable to hotel guests. 4) The hotel staff, more than anything else wrong with this hotel, are absolutely trained to less than 1 star level. It takes extra training to come up with the numerous excuses and unables. It’s a masterclass of customer-disservice if there were one offered. Some might say the hotel is “Quiet”, but that’d be a nice word for a hotel in a downward spiral.

It’s location is quite hidden. Service was good. And there’s only one restaurant which served both Szechuan cuisine and hotpot set menu. I got my bottle at the hotel’s store and drank it at their restaurant without charging me any corkage fee. The room was spacious got the Mountain View and the interior design was quite unique as an a little bit old fashioned hotel.

The hotel used to be the only five star hotel in Jiuzhaigou. It lives in the memory of locals being a place where only the rich people can stay. Every time I mentioned it to the cab drivers, they showed respect. However, it no longer deserves its name. The services have degraded in multiple areas. You can tell that they were trying to keep their previous glorious service, but significant problems can be easily noticed. First, in term of the infrastructure, The whole garden area and the connecting corridor to hotel rooms were under a big transparent doom structure. Those areas are supposed to be indoor, but NOT heated. Apparently, as a fancy hotel, there are a supermarket, a gift shop and a pharmacy. But they seem to be run by third parties. There is no English direction to the supermarket, and the pharmacy is not open at the time I checked (7pm). Our room was “upgraded”, but the view was the deserted section (Building 6) of the hotel. Second, staff training is questionable. Some of the people I interacted with are probably third party vendors, but they know little about the hotel when we were trying to find the lounge. They “upgraded” my room to “premium lounge access”, so we arrived hoping to find some hot meal in the lounge, but they told me I actually do not have access. We ended up going to the “Tibet style” hot pot restaurant. It was quite expensive (for two people, cost equivalent to 50% of the room rate). There were a loud “tibet” dance show during the dinner. I think the show is questionably authentic because all songs were in Mandarin Chinese. The nightly rate is ridiculous (just over 100 usd per night). I would be staying in a motel in US for the same price. In summary, if you are trying to impress someone who has never been here before by showing them the pictures, it’s probably fine. Just don’t actually bring them here.

Pros: Luxury renovations, good window views. Quiet.Cons: 1) This place is a bit far from the Jiuzhai resort. But it's not so hard to hire a car. 2) There's only one restaurant for dinners which mainly give Sichuan food. I'm OK with the cuisine, though sometimes I find it's a bit oily. But the dishes are really pricey. In general I'm happy with my stay. But I would try a different hotel during my next visit.
