The hotel used to be the only five star hotel in Jiuzhaigou. It lives in the memory of locals being a place where only the rich people can stay. Every time I mentioned it to the cab drivers, they showed respect.
However, it no longer deserves its name. The services have degraded in multiple areas. You can tell that they were trying to keep their previous glorious service, but significant problems can be easily noticed. First, in term of the infrastructure, The whole garden area and the connecting corridor to hotel rooms were under a big transparent doom structure. Those areas are supposed to be indoor, but NOT heated. Apparently, as a fancy hotel, there are a supermarket, a gift shop and a pharmacy. But they seem to be run by third parties. There is no English direction to the supermarket, and the pharmacy is not open at the time I checked (7pm). Our room was “upgraded”, but the view was the deserted section (Building 6) of the hotel. Second, staff training is questionable. Some of the people I interacted with are probably third party vendors, but they know little about the hotel when we were trying to find the lounge. They “upgraded” my room to “premium lounge access”, so we arrived hoping to find some hot meal in the lounge, but they told me I actually do not have access. We ended up going to the “Tibet style” hot pot restaurant. It was quite expensive (for two people, cost equivalent to 50% of the room rate). There were a loud “tibet” dance show during the dinner. I think the show is questionably authentic because all songs were in Mandarin Chinese.
The nightly rate is ridiculous (just over 100 usd per night). I would be staying in a motel in US for the same price.
In summary, if you are trying to impress someone who has never been here before by showing them the pictures, it’s probably fine. Just don’t actually bring them here.
