"Opened in 1996 in the heart of the Lujiazui finance and trade zone as Pudong’s first five-star hotel—and the first InterContinental in mainland China—this tower resembles a book with a gleaming glass spine. Its location places it a five-minute walk from Century Avenue metro station and close to Fuxing Road East cross-river tunnel, allowing easy access to the city. Inside, the soaring atrium lobby creates a sense of openness, while contemporary rooms come in light, calm tones; select accommodations come with a sunken tub in the bathroom."

This continues to be my absolutely favorite place to stay in Shanghai. The Club level staff is amazing, they treat you like family. Lily, Andrew, York and the rest of the staff are so very friendly and provide a first-class experience. The accommodations are warm and welcoming, the breakfast buffet is the best I've ever experience. When you stay here you want for nothing. It is conveniently located within a 5 minute walk to the Century Avenue Subway stop where you can go anywhere in Shanghai quickly. My only desire is that they update the fitness center, it is functional but small and dated.

A Pudong institution that continues to shine. A mix up at check in around club access was quickly resolved, and we enjoyed a 6 night stay. The rooms are spacious and quiet…the beds supremely comfortable with high quality linen. A great bar in the lobby, and easy access to a local metro station. The winner was the lounge on the 24th floor…here the team of Lily, York, Becky and Arin made us feel right at home. This is one of the best hotel lounge experiences I’ve enjoyed for many years. A full breakfast and ample catering to make it an easy light dinner stop. I’m a lap swimmer, and unfortunately the hotel pool does disappoint….it’ tiny! Sales of swimming caps at RMB 88.00 was somewhat extortionate!

Location wise the hotel is very excellent and rooms are also very cosy and comfortable. Moreover the restaurant serving excellent food and appreciation to the staff at the lobby. Very helpful and thoughtful, if they find you a little confused, they will come and offer you help. That’s a five star service, found Mr Success Jung very kind and helpful for resolving the small issues i faced. Overall the hotel was a very good experience. Will come back

I didn't even realize this was the number 2 hotel in Shanghai when I booked this hotel, but it totally deserves the ranking. Everything and everyone is excellent. Fantastic food, room, team, location. I absolutely loved it here. Want to give highest praise to York, Andrew and Becky in the executive lounge. Convienent location to the metro. Fantastic attention to detail. Even the Christmas decorations would put western hotels to shame. I hate the overuse of the word amazing, but this property is amazing.

Well decorated lobby. Friendly front desk. Can feel the aging room. Spacious toilet but water pressure & temperature is disappointing. Breakfast is good with many variety. King bed is actually joint 2 single bed. Personal not worth the room rate. Complimentary welcome drink is + pt. Pool is too small to swim.

I’ve stayed here back in 2006 and loved it and came back to Shanghai in 2025 and stayed here again. Feels like home. Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast, Estella from front desk is a win for the hotel, all issues resolved and organized perfectly. I’ll come back!

Very pleasant experience. Nice staff and great breakfast. The view is average as the hotel is located into residential zones but it’s handy to get anywhere with public transport or taxi.

During my stay at the Intercontinental Shanghai Pudong, as an IHG Platinum Ambassador member, my room was upgraded from Deluxe Room to Suite Room. The hotel’s service and atmosphere carry a quiet, classic, old-school charm. The cocktails served during Happy Hour were excellent. I would especially like to commend York, Miya, and Yuonne for their warm and attentive service. Among all the InterContinental hotels I have visited in Shanghai so far, this club truly stood out and is highly recommended—it’s worth booking a stay just to experience it.
