My Government-Mandated Quarantine at a Five-Star Hotel

"But being quarantined in a posh resort isn’t the same as traveling there on vacation: The Air Force was now running things, and the focus was on order, not hospitality. Packaged meals from a third-party catering company were dropped at the door three times a day. Security guards were stationed on every floor to make sure no one left their rooms for any reason."

Amazing location, right in front of circular quay & botanic gardens. The room is very nice and comfortable. Modern equipment also. I do not recommend the hotel for a business stay. The service is a disaster especially for breakfast. Waited 10 minutes to be seated, because they don’t clear the tables, hence nothing is available, incredible enough it was not busy. Then 25minutes to not even receive a coffee and eggs that you must order. So I left after 35minutes and got delayed for my meeting. Better take breakfast & coffee outside the hotel, furthermore since the selection of buffet is ridiculous for a 50$ price. May come back to the hotel but never returning to the Conservatory.

We had a wonderful stay during Vivid Sidney. Ideally located in the heart of the city, a few minutes walk to the Opera house, Harbor bridge, the Rocks, and Circular Quay (gateway to ferries) and restaurants. It is a luxury hotel in a historic and beautiful building with classic decor! There is a classic and elegant elevator in the lobby. Amazing and helpful staff that will help you in every way. We were a bit lost on our first day, and we may look it too...lol. A staff member immediately approached and answered our questions on how to walk to the Opera House from the hotel. The room is spacious and clean with a view of the harbor. Visit the Aster bar to enjoy the crafty mixology (We love the drinks!) and the amazing view of Sydney Harbor. The only downside is the lackluster breakfast buffet. It needs more variety!!! Nevertheless, we still highly recommend this hotel!!!

My family and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the InterContinental Sydney, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment I arrived, the staff welcomed me with warm smiles and an eagerness to accommodate my every need. Their hospitality truly set the tone for my stay and made me feel right at home. It’s clear that attention to detail is a priority here, and it really enhances the overall experience. Now, let's talk about the rooftop bar—an absolute must-visit! The views of the Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House are simply breathtaking. Sipping on a delicious cocktail while soaking in those iconic sights was one of the highlights of my trip. Whether you're looking to unwind after a long day or celebrate a special occasion, this bar offers an unforgettable atmosphere. In terms of value, I found my stay to be well worth it given the quality of service and amenities provided. The combination of luxurious accommodations, prime location, and exceptional staff makes it a fantastic choice for anyone visiting Sydney. In summary, my experience at InterContinental Sydney was phenomenal! If you're looking for a place that combines comfort, stunning views, and top-notch service, look no further. I can't wait to return for another unforgettable stay!

The hotel is in a fantastic location - you are 5 minutes walk to everything. The staff are lovely and work incredibly hard. ||The WhatsApp communication is brilliant and avoids hanging to call down for questions / services . ||Why not 5/5? ||Limited amenities in the room for a 5* hotel ||We had club level. It’s the first lounge I have ever used where beers and wines are not self service. This puts a huge strain on the 3 members of staff working in the lounge. The lady who runs the lounge is working at least 3 people’s job! The cocktail maker doesn’t have a moment to think. If you are going to keep it service only you need to hire more staff - but it would be far easier to allow customers to help themselves to beer and wine leaving staff to cocktails and canopies. ||On a positive note Alice in the club lounge breakfast was amazing. The view up there is unrivalled. ||A lovely trip - thank you!

We had a fantastic stay at the Intercontinental Hotel Sydney. Its prime location in the heart of the city allows for easy access to iconic attractions like the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, and Circular Quay, making it perfect for exploring the area. The hotel itself is a luxurious establishment housed in a historic building, featuring classic decor that exudes elegance. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome, particularly Kevin, whose professionalism eased our transition after a long journey. The check-in process was efficient, even during the busy morning season. Our harbour view room met every expectation, offering a lovely vista. In the morning, we enjoyed a standout breakfast, although the selection of pastries was somewhat limited. The dining staff were attentive yet unobtrusive, enhancing our overall experience. Overall, our stay was delightful, marked by exceptional service and a beautiful setting, making it a memorable part of our trip to Sydney.

Had a brief overnight stay for work and what a delight it was to stay at the Intercontinental in Sydney. Ease of location (just a short walk up the hill from the train station - came straight from the airport so about a 30 minute journey all up). So close to the Opera House, Bridge and Circular Quay. The hotel itself is great, what you would expect at an intercontinental. Lovely inside, was treated to an upgrade on my room to a harbour view which was much appreciated. Luxury products in the bathrooms, comfy bed and the breakfast buffet is extensive. Would love to come back on my next Sydney visit, staying a little longer for leisure next time!

The staff were extremely attentive in every aspect. Thank You All for the great stay!! P.S. We’ll be back in 10 days!

Yelp
The Treasury is the main bar and restaurant at the Intercontinental Sydney Harbor and in conjunction with the two club level lounges serve hotel guests and regular patrons. The service is impeccable with employees like Claire Wheeler and her club staff that really take care of the hotel guests and make it a wonderful place to spend your hard earned travel dollars. Food selections are currated seasonally and serve many pallets. We loved our many days at The Intercontinental and the staff boosted our spirits daily.

Yelp
Dining at Aster was an unforgettable experience. Visiting for dinner, I was captivated by the breathtaking city views, with shimmering lights creating a magical atmosphere. The oyster mushrooms were a standout--rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Aster's ambiance is effortlessly romantic, making it an ideal spot for a special night out or a memorable date. The combination of stunning views, delicious food, and intimate vibes has me eager to return. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Perfect location. Walking distance to the harbour. Got a complimentary room for being an elite member. Service and cleanliness is great. Elevators can only be accessed with your keys. I just had a problem when I first checked in and was immediately resolved. Bell service is available. Breakfast was great!!! 7-25-2023

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the InterContinental Sydney for three nights. Overall, we liked the location and the room was modern and tastefully done, but service was somewhat off. The hotel itself is quite well done. The Treasury Bar is gorgeous (if slow), and they really kept the character of the hotel. The location is very central to George Street shopping and Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the Opera House. Very easy to pick up an Uber here because the hotel has its own covered drop-off area. I am an InterContinental Ambassador with IHG, but was surprised that there was no Ambassador check-in, just IHG Rewards. Both of the people at the check-in desk were very new and did not know how to search for upgrades for people with loyalty status. Eventually, they just called the reservations desk and were told that no upgrades were available. (This happened only because I asked about upgrades.) That type of information should be more proactively offered. It's fine if the hotel it's completely sold out, and I do believe that they didn't have weekend night rooms for a busy weekend, but the standard is to offer food & beverage credit or IHG points if I'm not able to be upgraded. The room itself was tastefully done with many modern elements. Could not complain about the room, and I got what I paid for! Plenty of USB ports. All the plugs were Australian, though, I asked for a converter, but it never arrived. Check out was fine, but there were a bunch of laundry charges that I didn't have, so I'm glad I checked the bill. Also, I had an issue at the Treasury Bar where I had been overcharged and I requested the receipt. The checkout woman said she would handle it and I could go about my day, but I never heard back from them and never received a change in charges. It's not really worth it to email back-and-forth over five Australian dollars. Overall, we were pleased with our stay at the InterContinental. There are so many hotel options down here in the CBD, I probably wouldn't stay here as a repeat guest, but it was fine for once.

Yelp
Lovely hotel in a great location. Walking distance to an assortment of tourist must-dos. The rooms look like they have been recently refurbished. They feel elegant and modern. Bathrooms are equally exciting and the amenities are by Byredo! The rooms include a very plentiful mini bar, espresso machine, electric tea kettle, iron + ironing board, safe. Another cool feature is the availability of USB and USB-C ports to connect/charge devices during your stay.

Yelp
Had a fabulous time at this great hotel. Location is excellent, staff is excellent, everything was superb.

Yelp
Had great stay. Early Check in was accommodating. Location was excellent being close to Sydney Opera, nearby Park, and ferries. The fitness center and indoor pool were spacious especially after long day walking. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Staff, restaurants and stay was amazing. First time in Australia and would definitely come back to this hotel. Centrally located to wharf and other cool sights and restaurants.

Yelp
This review is about The Aster on the 32 floor. Very unfriendly staff. Overpriced for the quality. The view is nice, but if you are a guest of the hotel there are equally good views of the Harbour without the attitude and the unhelpful nature of the service. Make sure you are reserving a good table because they won't tell you ahead of time and they will not accommodate your request

Yelp
I had a great experience here. It wasn't just room for the night but felt like quite the adventure. My room was upgraded to the harbour view. Loved it of course. I could just sit in the window and watch all the boats come in and out. Not to mention it was the night before Australia Day so they were practicing with the lights in the evening on the harbour. It made it all look magical. Location was close to circular quay which is great to get any adventure cracking. There were plenty of places around that had late night coffee or foods which was a plus. If you ever get a chance to go upstairs to the Panorama Bar .. don't miss out. What a view, and unobstructed by glass. Brilliant to sit out on a sultry warm evening and watch the city get a make over with coloured lights. In the morning I was able to get the buffet breakfast. Not as big as it once was but work the money spent. Make sure you leave plenty of time to sit and enjoy the food and unlimited coffee and tea. And, if you can... get the late check out. I had 4pm. Wow. Made me feel like I had a whole extra day in the city. I came away feeling like I had been away for days. The only thing I would fault the hotel with was the bed. It's a 4 star bed. Not like other 5 star hotels where as soon as you lay down you don't want to move. Lol (Not that I was not comfortable or didn't sleep well, it just wasn't plush... and beds are my 'oh yeah' thing. Lol)

Yelp
This is a nice hotel in an excellent location. Everything is within 5-10min walk away from here - opera house, circular quay, botanical garden, the rocks, etc. We arrived early around 8am and our rooms were not ready, however they provided us access to 31st floor to use the pool, shower etc. The room was large and comfortable. I loved the window seat with views of the harbor bridge. They also sent a complimentary fruit tray as part of the welcome kit to my room. There's also complimentary coffee and croissants in the morning in the lobby.

Anne w.

Yelp
Fabulous location just over a block to circular quay wharfs/Sydney harbor and opera house. Rooms are spacious and recently remodeled, well appointed. Prepaid breakfast buffet is incredible, tons of offerings and all of it fresh and gourmet quality. Rooftop bar is a must visit (see photo). Best of all, they placed us in our room at 10 am at no extra fee which was a delight after flying for 24 hours! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Yup...this is a hard no for me. This place was suppose to be one the of best hotels in Sydney. I just got off like 10-12 hour flight from Seoul and prior to making room reservation we told them our check in time. When we got there they said our suite is not ready, they said it can take 30min to either 2 hours. Fine. But 2-3 hour passes by they said that the previous guest staying in the room has late check out. WHY DID YOU NOT CHECK THIS BEFORE HAND? They gave us to wait longer which can be 4 hours or switch rooms. Was really looking forward to the suite with the Sydney Opera House view. So disappointing and I just want to shower. Side Note: I guess their main concern are for guest in business wear because I am super casual right now and not feeling very welcomed. Oh well. **They do have really good food and coffee though on the lobby floor**

Yelp
I will start off by saying that I used to stay at this hotel many years ago and I had a good impression from this particular location....then. My first impression now: it has not aged very well. The first thing I noticed walking into the room was this old television set dating back from the start of the century. The curtains and blinds were left completely open so the room was also steaming hot. A feature that I didn't particularly appreciate but that's a minor detail. I turned my attention to the A/C to get some much needed cool air pumped into this sauna of a room. That unit was also very much deficient and days later at its lowest setting (17c) it was still struggling to ship out anything but cool air. Not much effort has been made to update the furniture or the electrical outlet to a more modern and practical use. USB outlet is one of the feature that comes to mind. The restroom is rather small but clean. The one positive thing I will say about this hotel is its close proximity to the shopping as well as the restaurants and tourist attractions. For the price, you can find much better.

Yelp
I recently stayed here while I was in town for work. When I arrived, I realized I actually stayed here once before after getting off of a cruise. The hotel is very nice. Though I do wish they had a little shop to buy snacks and drinks. There was a little mini mart near by so I just went there. The rooms are very nice. Plush bedding, comfortable window seat. Though my window did overlook the construction site next door but I could kind of see the bridge if I leaned just right. On my last night there, water started coming out of the ceiling above my bathtub. The hotel engineers came pretty quickly to investigate. It turned out it was a plumbing issue they could not fix. So they made the decision to move me to another room. Luckily I was pretty much packed so it was not too hard to move. The bellman came and moved me to a beautiful room on a higher floor overlooking Sydney Harbor. The manager on duty was very apologetic and they again apologized when I checked out the next day. The hotel is up a big hill from Circular Quay so expect to get some exercise but its a great location for all of the sites. The staff is friendly. Nice bar in the middle.

Yelp
Intercontinental Sydney curating delicious seasonal treats at their weekend high tea buffet. I love visiting the Intercontinental, especially at Christmas time. The halls were decked with Christmas trim and the food was sumptuous they just know how to add a little Christmas magic Make this your next hightea adenture, you will be amazed at the variety of savoury and sweeties on offer.

Yelp
I had a wonderful stay here. The location is superb. Just a short walk from everything. I walked to the Opera House to see a play in the evening. Walked the botanical gardens every morning. Walked to go shopping, to the bus to Bondi beach! It was perfect. They let me check in a few hours early, which was awesome. Service was great and so was the breakfast in the morning. I cannot complain about a thing. I will definitely stay here again! I'm a fan.

Yelp
The InterContinental Sydney is a fantastic hotel with wonderful staff. We checked in a little early around 1pm and front desk said that although there were rooms available, they were on the noisy side with construction going on. We appreciated they gave us a heads up and said we would wait for a room that was more quiet. Left the bags with the bag folks and visited the concierge which gave us an explore Sydney packet and things we could do in the meantime. It was very well put together and the concierge gave suggestions for a stroll thru the royal botanical gardens up to the north peak and then back down along the sea wall for a majestic view of the Opera house. Once we got back, the room was ready (2712). The rooms are classic looking and much more spacey than what is available play the Hilton Sydney not too far away. It has a much quieter environment as well. Overall a very nice place to stay if vacationing in Sydney. Tip- less competent Uber drivers have trouble with the pickup location. Doesn't hurt to text them- please pull into taxi stand for the lobby of the intercontinental. Eliminates frustration for all. :)

Yelp
This hotel has a great location which is super close to Circular Quay and local restaurants. Our hotel room was ready for us at 11am which was nice after a 21 hour flight (that's why I gave five stars...most hotels make you wait). Our hotel room was clean overall but they did forget to take out trash from the previous customers which made me a little uncomfortable about the cleanliness of our bedsheets or towels. The room (2911) was huge and had a wonderful bar area with complimentary tea and coffee. This hotel was a great start to our vacation (even with the slip up with the cleanliness).

Yelp
Once my favourite hotel in Australia, this place is well overdue for a makeover. A corporate travel agent I met a few months ago warned ms about how it has slipped in service and is dated. Well she was right, from being allocated that had no working phone on the desk to waiting on hold over 4 minutes to get to someone on my mobile to a tv that did not work properly with the engineer stating 'they are old' no replacement until 2020. As an Ambassador club member I was not advised welcome goft of a good bottle of red and fresh fruit is replaced with a small jar of honey and a $25 food and beverage voucher! Had to tell my guest who did not bring a bottle as I though one would be in the room. At $17 a movie on a tv that did not work was a bit dated as most now have free movies or let you stream to the tv! Never again setting foot in this overpriced hotel! Only thing going for it is Ambassador Club lounge staff.

Yelp
This hotel is so old! You wouldn't be able to tell from the public spaces, as those seem to be more modernized and upgraded and polished. You can tell from all aspects of the room it's old. Everything was visibly dirty from normal wear and tear - fabric headboard, curtain drapery, tub/fixtures, sink/fixtures. Our sink faucets kept emitting black tar looking substance each time we turned on the cold water. There are also an entire lack of outlets by the bedside - both adapter and USB. Everyone should have outlets by the bed! We also had a couple service issues during the stay. We asked for an extra adapter, which we didn't receive until 3 phone calls and 2.5 hours later - unacceptable. We also needed Engineerjng to check our AC, it also took 30+ minutes for someone to arrive. Standards also weren't in place - not all our amenities in the tray were replenished during Housekeeping. We've stayed in several other Intercons around Europe and Asia, and all have either been beautifully historic/well-preserved or modern. This hotel was neither, very surprising. Also, all the other Intercons we have stayed at automatically offered turn-down service every night. Here, you have to call before 5PM for turn down service to happen. Of course, we requested our 2nd night and we didn't get anything. It's unfortunate we stayed at the Westin on Martin Pl. before this stay. Even though the Westin brand level is technically lower than Intercon, we felt like we downgraded tremendously in both product quality, service efficiency, and location. Would not stay here again.

Yelp
I am always a big friend of the InterContinental. However, our experience at the Sydney one has been disappointing. 1. We are a family of four. For the few days we stay at the hotel, we repeatedly have to ask for more than 1 tiny tube of body wash and 1 for shampoo. We called and explained everyday we needed more than 1 tube and everyday, guess what, we were given a grand total of 1 tube of body wash and 1 tube of shampoo. It never came across my mind I needed to ration my shampoo and body wash EVERYDAY during my vacation at INTERCON. 2. I also put my mother up in a room next to us. On her first day, she asked for a knife to cut her apple and she was charged 8 dollars for the delivery. Wow. Seriously. 3. During breakfast time for the past 3 days, we have not gotten our coffee until half way through the breakfast. Simple black coffee. Whoever in the management team really needs to look into how to take care of their guests. Of note, this is unique to the intercontinental in Sydney. We always have a great time in other branches. A dad who took his family to Australia for Xmas for a family vacation.

Yelp
Found this hotel on hotels.com search and breakfast was included for what we paid to stay in Four Seasons 5 star without breakfast but by the time I got round to actually booking a few hours later it was snapped up Not to worry given we had no breakfast included in our four seasons booking we decided to pop into the Intercontinental for breakfast Full breakfast buffet 42 Aus dollars Omelette around 22 dollars or so (this was in fact comparable, possibly even slightly cheaper than a disappointing coffee shop in the rocks we ate breakfast in our first day) My omelette was spot on - meat choices ham but also smoked salmon along with the normal cheese, tomato, onion and mushroom. It was a bit of a long wait though as it was ordered from the a la carte menu The buffet was impressive - see pics! There was a full pig on carvery, also glutton free bread and a chef cooking to order - eggs and omelettes, plenty of cold meats, cheese, muffins and fresh fruit You can upgrade for freshly squeezed orange juice around 9 Aus dollars Great art in the breakfast room and hotel itself but unfortunately there isn't a fab scenic view of any Sydney icons from the breakfast room The pancakes were pre prepared so looked soggy I also ordered hot water with slices of lemon which wasn't charged The serving staff were adequate, they overcharged us and when I queried they stood by their guns, I had to query again on exit and the breakfast tea was taken off the bill - like I thought it should've been included in the 42 dollar cost. Am glad I persisted with my query No wifi for visitors available - the server I did ask didn't think so but didn't come back anyway to confirm yeah or neh

Yelp
I recently visited Sydney, AU and this hotel was recommended by a travel agent. The location of this hotel is great. You're next to Circular Quay, less than 5-10 min walk to the opera house and restaurants. You can walk to the shopping district and other parts of the city easily. The staff was great and really helpful. They assisted me with locating great restaurants and signing up for various tours. It was very clean and I didn't hear a sound from outside of the building. Great views of the city and bay as well. It's an older hotel but it's in great shape. If I ever make it back to Sydney I'd definitely stay here again. I have to give a special shout out to the Concierge because they put me on to some great, great, great, bars that are almost impossible to find without the assistance of a map and a bunch of luck.

Yelp
Didnt know yelp can also review hotels, so this is my first hotel review on yelp. The hotel is definitely dates and a very mediocre lobby and check in area. The hallways are nice and look to be renovated. The rooms are big and have large windows for a nice view. However, the design and interior amenities and features of the room are very dated. Ie phones, tv, no central console, very dated bathroom...etc. if they did a complete renovation of the bathroom, increased water pressure, and updated appliances and features in the bedroom, this would easily be a five star modern hotel anywhere else in the world. The breakfast is not huge. But the variety and quality is very good. The gym is also dated but has some modern equipment and many machines. Overall, i heard that all the hotels in sydney are pretty dated. Until the sofitel opened, there were no new five star hotels for almost 15 years. So the intercontinental is actually a very good option, relative to the other very dated five star hotels i. Sydney.

Yelp
This review is for 3.5 stars I came here as a part of a business trip a couple weeks ago. I was generally impressed with the level of service - the room service and turn down service was consistently pleasant and the amenities were nice. The room was spacious, with the bathroom being just a tad small. I arrived on Easter Sunday and was greeted by a chocolate bunny and bottle of wine - not sure if this was arranged per my business meeting or a hotel perk, but it was a pleasant surprise after a long haul flight. From a location perspective, this also cannot be beat. This is conveniently located in the Central Business District, with a two block walk directly to Circular Quay (ferry rides galore!), the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, and the Rocks. The Intercontinental Club Lounge has one of the best hotel views I've ever witnessed. With a clear view of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, it was just breathtaking. The complimentary food and drink was also very nice. There were a couple of things that bumped this down to 3.5 stars rather than 4: - The club lounge service was surprisingly hectic, even at times where there were not many people. The waiters and waitresses were not organized the most efficiently, with things being forgotten, or several people checking on you after you had already ordered things. - Our room had two twin beds pushed together to make a king. Apparently this is a thing that can be done, but I had never seen this before, especially in a room where you're being billed 400+ AUD/night. - The elevators were perhaps the most annoying feature of the hotel. It was touch screen with restricted floor access based only on your elevator key. For the first half of the stay, I thought you had to insert key and then select floor; turns out the key itself is sufficient. But you must insert your key in the right way, and sometimes it would work, other times it would be glitchy. If you are with other people who might be on another floor, there is no easy way for you to go to a different floor. We also had the pleasure of staying in this hotel at the same time another special visitor visited Sydney, who came with a fleet of Secret Service and other officials. Not sure how much that contributed to our experience, but I know other guests were displaced from their rooms without notice, and hopefully given some form of compensation.

Yelp
Great hotel within a five minute walk of Sydney harbor. Sadly I didn't have a view of the harbor or bridge but that's okay since I was able to get those views from the indoor swimming pool area. The room was big with a nice bathroom. Would love to stay here again.

Yelp
Not an upscale hotel. The condition of the pool was horrific. The water was super cloudy and smelled very bad. I raised my concern to concierge, service manager on duty they said they checked with their chief engineer and the pool was safe to use because ph levels were normal. Very disappointed with service and how staff handled the situation. Thanks for ruining my family vacation.

Yelp
Saahhhhh clahhssssy. I wore a vest and carried a vintage leather satchel because hey, it's the InterContinental. I haven't been her e for years, which I realised is because I'm neither fancy nor important enough to warrant regular visits. Long blacks are $7. Yes. Seven bucks. For a coffee. Although to be fair, if you're the sort of person who stays here on the reg you wouldn't bother to pick up a fiddy you saw lying in the gutter, so it's all relative I suppose. It's beautiful inside. The central atrium is schmick, with a grand piano and tons of natural light and ceilings that go all the way up, baby. There are lots of leather nooks in which to open your laptop and cure cancer or make a fortune on the stock market. I was giving a presentation in the Harbour Room on the 31st floor, which has splendid views of, yep, the harbour. The views were so splendid, in fact, I had a hard time focusing on my content. If ever I'm feeling down I'll put on a tuxedo and come and hang out near the grand piano and drink the free water so I can feel like a big shot for a little while.

Yelp
5-Stars prompted by their excellent (but expensive) Club Lounge. We don't have status with IHG so we paid about $150 US per night extra to have access to their wonderful club lounge. It made all the difference for our 10 day stay in fabulous Sydney. The rooms are comfortable but not luxe. We had a high floor corner room (try to get a corner) with a spectacular view of the Sydney harbor and the iconic opera house. Small bathroom, but excellent bathroom ventilation. The rooftop club lounge has the most incredible views with a wrap around outdoor terrace. The lounge staff were superb. Don't expect a glamorous hotel or glamorous rooms. You will get a hotel that is in a great location with good service and good food and beverage options.

Yelp
Great easy check-in and service from the front desk. Room was a little disappointing the hotel is in need of some massive modernisation when you compare the rooms to the likes of Hilton Melbourne, Sofitel Queenstown. Bed was disappointingly not as comfortable as the previous two hotels mentioned and the bathroom was very, very dated. The service, however, was very, very good. Another great hotel where the staff remember you after only one previous interaction. The service we received in the Club Continental lounge was fantastic, personal and very genuine. The Continental Club lounge offers beautiful views and is the perfect location for pre-dinner drinks and canapés before heading out to savour the Sydney nightlife or taking in the morning sun and looking out on the opera house whilst enjoying the breakfast buffet and a freshly made coffee.

Yelp
We were hotel guests for for nights and had breakfast there twice. The line was long but they did move quite fast but because of their rush the customer service was not very good. We felt ignored especially when it came to getting our coffee. The breakfast was a buffet except for the coffee. When we finally sat down at our table we were greeted and they immediately took our coffee Order. We then went to the buffet. We had to ask for our coffee two to three times before we finally got it and we were well into eating our meal. One server by the name of Puspa was very caring, professional and helpful!

Yelp
The worst check in experience ever. Cons: -I didn't receive I booked, apparently "group reservations" have a priority and they guarantee rooms for them, not for my reservation. Ended up with a different view from the one I booked which is very disappointing. -Got into my room 2 hours past check in time, had to wait 2 hrs in a temporary room which is upsetting that I my check in time got pushed for 2hrs so I lost 2hrs of the day. -Very unhelpful check in staff, the person who checked me in was rushing us so much, made me feel like im taking her time. Every question I had wasn't answered but I was referred to ask a concierge (ex: does a hotel have a spa and what are the spa facilities? apparently that's a question for a concierge). I wasn't even asked if I was IGH rewards member to input my rewards number. Pro: location is great The whole check in and room switch process made me disappointed, I wished I booked a different hotel, there are plenty of them with a better view, location and amenities. But mostly important the fact that I was treated as an inconvenience made me feel not welcomed there.

Yelp
High expectations met with average results. We were told this is supposed to be the best hotel in all of Australia, but after our stay we are slightly disappointed. Everything started with the check-in process - we arrived a bit early but had booked a club level room and had hoped they could accomodate us early. Coming from such a long flight, we weren't feeling fresh and not wearing 'business casual' as the club level lounge dictates, so we weren't exactly given a warm welcome and it seemed like they thought we didn't belong. After finally proving we DID have club level access, we were told our room, located on Club level 29 was still occupied but they occupants had an 11 am checkout. We waited, and 11 am came around - the occupants were still in the room. Another hour passed and they were still occupying the room. We were told we could either switch our room to a lower NOT club level room on floor 20 or wait an unknown amount of time for the occupants of our floor 29 room to leave. We had just got off our 15 hour flight from the US so we decided to switch rooms because all we wanted to do was shower. The staff at the Club level check-in offered us a bottle of champagne and lunch on them as an apology. We were fine with this. When we finally got into our room, our luggage was not there. We waited for about 30 minutes before I walked back upstairs to let them know. It turns out 2 different departments thought the other department had taken care of it, when in reality neither one did. If I didn't go up and ask about, we would never have gotten our luggage. Later on our welcome gift finally arrived as well as a bottle of wine. It was not champagne but it was fine. We were never given the free lunch and still wondered why offer us that if they weren't going to go through with it. But the morning had been so long and confusing that I did not want to complain once again about something. Our stay since then had been fine, the club level amenities are great, and the wait staff is friendly. As a five star hotel I was overall disappointed. The initial check-in process seemed to leave a lingering cloud over our entire stay. While the staff did their best to make up for the mix-up, it seems we were short changed from going from a Club level room to a lower level room with a bottle of wine as a compensation. I also wish they had followed through with the free lunch.

Yelp
The hotel might benefit from some renovations. The location is very good. Did not eat in their Restaurant.

Yelp
Good sleep with quiet room on 10 Floor. Room service on time and good dinner. Steamed jasmine rice and steamed veges available as side dishes. Heeeaalthy! Pool was small with great views of harbor bridge from 31 floor. Swam the 60 circle rounds undisturbed on a Friday evening. Fitnestastic!! compact & tidy on 31 Floor. Breakfast a la carte was served very well in the opera cafe. Company paid so it was a good deal.

Yelp
I recently had the privilege to stay at the InterContinental Sydney Hotel on my first visit to Sydney - and I LOVED it! Part of the hotel is a refurbished bank on the bottom floors and I love the architecture touches they kept in the building. This hotel is a great location for access to the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Bridge and Harbour, The Rock area for shopping and close to many museums, galleries, historical buildings and parks. One of my favorite things is the Sydney Botanical Gardens and Music Conservatory is right across the street. The restaurant is top notch with excellent service and a wide selection of delectable dishes to try. I was on a tour and while many hotels have buffets which allow guests to find something to eat in a fast manner, this way exceeded my expectations. The dinner and breakfasts we had here were a highlight. Many thanks to the Chefs! Rooms were standard size and very clean and well stocked. I love it when hotels provide each guest with a fresh bottled water each day. Nice touch!

Yelp
We booked with Expedia. We picked this hotel based on the "breath taking roof top patio." What they do not tell you is you have to pay to use it! On top of having to pay for it, it was booked through our stay so we couldn't use it anyways. In fact everything is itemized with ridiculous pricing. Entry has no pedestrian access Overrated It's now a year later and I am still frustrated that I didn't pick a better place!!!!!

Yelp
Great location- I didn't realize how close I was to the Opera House! Loads of bus stops around this area, so it was really easy to figure out how to get back home if we took the bus to a different area. Staff- very polite and helpful Room- beautiful rooms! I had a great view of Sydney and loved the room I had. There was even a nice window seat where I could lay down and read a book while looking at the view! Comfortable beds! Beautiful interior as well!

Yelp
Very clean and spacious room. Hotel has fine dining and is near everything on the Harbour. It is also within walking distance to the Sydney Opera House. Room service is exceptional and front desk staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I didn't like how noisy the room could get because we were facing the Harbour and traffic. Overall, lovely experience.

Yelp
I'd love to review this hotel but unfortunately I'm too busy throwing up and dealing with a migraine because of the lobby smell. Smells like a man with no self awareness or ability to smell. It made my eyes water for 10 minutes after I left! Their excuse is it's their brand scent. Really worth triggering guests migraines and panic attacks. Their solution was to cancel my booking.... During vivid, when there's not a single hotel open in the area. I was booked here for work because of the location and nature of work. That's not a solution. The breakfast area also reeks of cheap cologne, which is baffling, as restaurants should smell like food.

Yelp
Wife and I enjoyed our stay in this great hotel in Sydney. The architecture in the interior atrium is beautiful. Every morning try the breakfast buffet, the selection is great and everything is done wonderfully. The rooms are clean and a nice retreat after touring the city. The porters and the valet services are excellent and very friendly in getting you to your destination. A must try!

Yelp
A first rate hotel and great views from the upper floors and the top floor club. You can go out on the balcony of the club and see the bridge bay and opera house. Great food particularly the breakfast buffet

Yelp
This is a pricey hotel and it needs some updating. Air conditioner is on all the time and the room never cools down. You have to call for ice. Why do so many places do that now? Wifi is only available through payment. Fancy hotel can't even provide that??? Ugh! Cafe on ground floor is okay, but you have to go to them for service. The hotel doesn't have any of the different fancy pillows they advertise in the room. Won't use this hotel again. There have to be better options out there. JF

Yelp
Of the two Intercontinental Hotels in Sydney this property is billed as the better of the two. I can't say I agree. I booked a Double City View room using 55k IHG points. I arrived to the hotel a little after noon to check in. As a "Spire Ambassador" checking in early has never been an issue. I asked if there was a similar room available that I could check into right away. I was told that there was in fact a similar room available for check in however it had a harbor view and there would be a $50 upgrade fee. I was a bit confused as I have never once paid for an upgrade. As a "Spire Ambassador" I have been given an upgrade of some kind on EVERY stay I have had at any Intercontinental Hotel I've stayed in over the last several years. Now I understand that because I used points the hotel isn't required to upgrade my room. (An awful policy in my opinion.) However in the past I have been offered an upgrade in ever other instance involving a reward reservation. In this case I would have had basically the same exact room, the difference being the new room would have had a view of the harbor. I asked the woman checking me in if she could double check the upgrade charge with a manager, which she did and confirmed that the manager would not upgrade the room. I neglected to mention that I had phoned the hotel a day prior to inform them of my early check in and I was assured that a room would be available. I made the front desk agent aware of this.. still no. When I did check into my room I was far from impressed. First, the beds are on wheels and literally move around. I had to shove a bag against the wheel to prevent the bed from moving around. The bathrooms are in desperate need of an upgrade and the water pressure is awful. I should also mention that I never received my Ambassador amenity. No bottled water, no fresh fruit, no welcome letter. All standard items in any other Intercontinental. I stay at Intercontinental Hotels whenever possible as they usually provide a unique cross between a business hotel and something more laid back. This Intercontinental is one I will not be staying at again in the future. The Intercontinental Double Bay may be a few minutes outside of the CBD, however it a much nicer property. The staff at the Double Bay location are also much more willing to go the extra mile to keep guests happy.

Yelp
Really lovely hotel! We stayed in a room with club access, definitely worth using up some credit card points to upgrade! The club lounge has an outstanding view of the Opera House and bridge, free wifi, free alcohol from 5-7pm, and really high quality food. Breakfast was outstanding. The staff was also outstanding, friendly and helpful without being overbearing. The room itself was relatively large for a basic city hotel room. Comfortable bed, nice large bathroom, and a cute window seat area. The highlight for me was the deep, long tub, and all the toiletries provided. Since our luggage took forever to arrive, we were grateful to find a toothbrush and razor in the drawer by the sink! I also enjoyed the bath salts (the soaking kind, not the MDPV zombie-face-eating kind). The shower was really lovely as well, a big rain-type head with enough power to thoroughly rinse. Everything was clean and well maintained. The flower arrangements in the public areas were modern but stylish, and just slightly scented the air with lilies. I am only docking a star because they contributed to our lost luggage shenanigans, which eventually required us making three local calls at $1 a piece and spending over an hour on the phone. Finally, 32+ hours after we checked in, and eight hours after the airline first attempted to drop it off, our luggage made it to our room. It's amazing that United Airlines, Air Canada, and the Intercontinental Sydney could ALL manage to f*#& up such a basic task as getting two suitcases to their final destination in a timely fashion.

Yelp
All very nice. Good valet. Easy check in. Good size room. I only decided to book on Friday as we were going to the theatre and I didn't feel like driving home. The room rate was a good deal. I'd book again if the need arrives.

Yelp
Worst lift in the world 10 min wait everytime. Makes you rethink about going out
