Where to Stay in Sydney (Updated 2025)

"I found this luxury option impressive for its panoramic ocean views, heated swimming pool, two bars, tennis courts and a fully equipped fitness center; the hotel offers ultra-modern, spacious rooms and is surrounded by great seafood restaurants." - Matthew Kepnes

I am giving this hotel two stars solely due to the friendliness of the staff. The guest rooms are very small, and the $600 rate feels like a rip off to the accommodations offered. Additionally, the pool isn’t open; although this information is noted on the website, it is not immediately visible and requires scrolling to find. I selected this hotel specifically for its pool, so this was very disappointing. Save your money and book Double Bay instead.

Our family of four visited Coogee Beach for three nights in late March. My husband and I splurged on an oceanview room, which was great for the sunrise/sunset and hearing the waves from our room. Our adult kids stayed in a pool view room and could see the ocean to the side. Both rooms had a balcony with a small table and a couple of chairs, and it was nice to sit out there and enjoy a cup of tea or read a book. The rooms were excellent, parking lot was convenient with in/out privileges (for a daily fee), and we enjoyed the bar and restaurant. The breakfast buffet was excellent and had a wonderful variety of options. The location was super convenient and walking distance to the beach and local shops and restaurants. I'm sure the upcoming renovation will be amazing!

Beautiful views and balcony, four of us (two teens and two adults) fit comfortably in a two double bed w balcony room. They were very accommodating as we arrived early. They let us use a shower room (as we had a long flight) and held our luggage’s with no problem until check in time. The beach is literally across the street, bus transportation is also across the street. Plenty on restaurants and cafes in the area. Coogee to bondi walk right there. Also, our offer included buffet breakfast in their restaurant, which was great. Highly recommend for families. Also, it has a tennis court, that although was a bit out of shape, it was much appreciated and kids enjoyed it. Pool is small, but nice. The main feature is the location right by the ocean. Can’t beat that.

Redeemed the Free Chase Anniversary night room and was upgraded to an Ocean view room. Great costumer service from Margaret ( if I remember correctly). Location was perfect for doing the walk to Bondi Beach and close to cafes for breakfast. Shocked to find out they were renovating and would be closed for months because I thought the rooms were in great condition. The smell in the lobby is amazing. After querying several employees we found out it is a signature smell in all Crowne Plaza's. What looked like a hot tub was actually an extension of the regular pool which was ice cold. Would rebook this hotel if ever in the area again.

We are so impressed with this stay!!!! After a very long flight from Arizona, the customer service at the Crown Plaza has been amazing. They were nice enough to let us check in to our room early and have been extremely accommodating. Janine has been so kind and helpful. After letting us check in early, Janine came to our room with champagne and chocolates to welcome us to this beautiful country! Did I mention that this is the perfect location for everything you need including the beach!! Will definitely recommend this to anyone coming to Australia soon!!

This hotel was worth every dollar. From checkin to dinners and check out, all staff were helpful and welcoming, dinner was pricey but so delightful and delicious we ate at the on site restaurant twice! The hotel also provided a welcoming bottle of wine and cheese plate our first night! The facility is clean and well maintained and the location is perfect! I highly recommend a room with an oceanfront balcony as we spent a lot of time on the balcony enjoying the view.

I booked 2 rooms at the Crown Plaza Coogee for last weekend. The hotel lobby and Shutters the restaurant was lovely and updated. We had a cocktail at the great bar and the buffet breakfast albeit small was excellent - although it would be nice to see the addition of some proper bread. The rooms were fine with super comfy beds and pillows. The bathrooms are very tired and awkward to move about in but the view made up for it all. We were in Room 425 and it was MAGIC with two balconies facing north and east. Nothing like hearing the waves as you drop off to sleep - day AND night! Finally, I have to make a special mention of Elsa on the front desk. She was just lovely and the perfect ambassador to check us in for our stay and set the tone for what was a fantastic weekend in Coogee!

Google
Amazing location. We had beautiful views from our 6 story interconnecting rooms. Easy walk to beach and restaurants. Rooms a little dated and bathroom door broken but overall nice. While the staff were all warm and friendly, it was obviously a short staffed long weekend and the hotel was at capacity. The queue for breakfast or reception desk was long. There was never any beach towels at the pool and not enough deck chairs (even though there was plenty of space for more). Our interconnecting door was locked on arrival (even though booking clearly stated they were interconnected). No one to help with luggage on arrival and departure. And the breakfast buffet was chaos! Not really good direction of flow so everyone wandering everywhere. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would likely return preferably on a quieter weekend! Tips: There are tiny QR codes on the wall at the pool that you can use to get drinks delivered. Bring your own beach or pool towels!

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Parking was easy. Room was beautiful, with a spectacular view of the ocean, beach, and hotel pool. With our room we got a couple of bottles of complimentary wine and a few chocolates to enjoy. It was a perfect location, near everything we would need. Everything was clean and the staff was all friendly and helpful.

Yelp
We chose this hotel and location based on reviews to relax and unwind after our 30+ hours of travel from NY. Just what we needed. Waking to beautiful sunrises from our balcony, strolls on beach and sleeping by pool between dips. Onsite bar and breakfast every morning at their restaurant enhanced the stay. The entire staff was friendly, accommodating, and willing to please. Plenty of shopping and eateries within walking distance. If adventurous, try the coastal walk to/from Bondi Beach. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hope to return again one day.

Yelp
Fantastic location. Staff made me feel very welcomed. Especially Clive with his friendly attitude and excellent barista skills. Front desk staff went out of their way to make sure I was happy with my room. (Mary,Laura,Chloe and Isla) Rooms nice and clean. A superb experience

Yelp
Really enjoyed my stay here! I was at the Crowne Plaza for 4 nights and had no complaints at all. My room was clean and spacious, and it looked up-to-date as well. The best part about this hotel is the location. The beach is right across the street and there are plenty of restaurants and stores nearby too. Definitely a great place to stay for tourists, but unfortunately not cheap (~$250 AUD per night). You're paying for being in a tourist hot spot though. It's also about 20 minutes from Sydney Airport/downtown Sydney. The only hiccup during my stay was at the beginning during check-in. I was hoping to get my hotel room earlier since I had been on the plane for 15 hours, but I ended up having to wait quite a while. Not the hotel's fault though since it was before the check-in time, but just giving you Yelpers a heads up if you were hoping to check in earlier. It's a pretty popular hotel and check out isn't until noon. By the way, the Bluesalt Restaurant for breakfast is awesome. Great assortment of food, made to order eggs, and freshly squeezed juice.

Yelp
Great spot close to Coogee Beach. Its pretty basic and dull decor, but the area is fabulous. Read more at http://www.stayple.net/hotel-resort-reviews/oceana/australia/sydney/crowne-plaza-coogee/photo-video-gallery.html

Yelp
This was an excellent hotel that faces the ocean and Coogee beach. The hotel has an excellent location just a few minutes walking distance form Wylie Pools and the other ocean pools. The best rooms are in the the higher floors and provide a great ocean view. The pool was nicely heated and there was also a gym on site. The bathrooms were a bit narrow and could use some remodeling, but overall the rooms were nice. The hotel is also located within walking distance of several restaurants, a small Woolworths supermarket, a chemist, bakery, gelato shop, dominos pizza, mcdonalds, and other convenient shops. The buffet breakfast is great value, and I would recommend that you get a hotel rate that includes it. The selection icnludes eggs benedict and omelettes made to order, pancakes, cereals, a selection of hot foods (even American bacon), fruit, spreads, bread, delicious baked croissants and danishes.

Yelp
Disappointing! Disappointing, nothing like the pictures, they must have moved the blue furnishings from room to room to take their pictures because as far as we could see looking into other rooms they were all brown and depressing! Planes roaring overhead all evening on each night. They say they offer sleep advantage rooms guaranteed! Really!!! We had an inside corner room which could be nice but the bed is situated in such a way that we could be seen by the two rooms either side! And as for the bath well it was fitted the wrong way around so if one sat in it there was a dip at the back which should be where the water flowed!! See photo Worse was trying to climb into the bath for a shower!! This hotel needs a complete makeover!

Yelp
Reserved this hotel to rest over the weekend. Great location - enjoyed the beach. Breakfast is great as well. Unfortunately, the condition of their rooms is poor. Mold, broken tiles, broken furniture. I am Platinum Elite with IHG. My upgraded room was terrible.

Yelp
-thank you HERBERT for hooking it up! -perfect location, right across from Coogee beach -immaculate views of that deep blue sea -everyone was so nice which was scary or....i'm just american? -rooms seem big or did i just pack light? -the elevator rides with my college homies seemed to be the best part of this all =TO HAVE GREAT FREINDS YOU GOTTA BE ONE.

Yelp
I did not actually stay at the hotel, but I was at this facility for a work event. The staff was friendly and the food they provided the group was absolutely delicious. The location is great - right on the water.

Yelp
Great hotel. Across the street from Coogee beach. As an IHG platinum member I was upgraded to a balcony room. It was an amazing view of the beach. The beds were comfortable and the linen was soft as well. Rooms were a decent size. All around a great location and quality. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Yelp
Wonderful hotel in a superb location. Clean and orderly, staff is very helpful. The rooms with views of the seaside are worth the extra price. The buffet breakfast is very nice, first class selections. Wonderful stay. Pricey, but worth it.

Yelp
One would think wifi is included in a hotel of Civilised counties, but no. $20/day and then you are still limited to 3Gb which normally is ok (if it is complementary), but once in a while you are jet laged and then its not enough - add on a complementary insult after using 3Gb stating how much of an awful guest you are for using the quota you payed for. And credit card fees are not unusual in Sydney, but when you pay $2000 for your stay - couldn't that be included? In all an unpleasant unwelcoming experience but the personal at this place was really great!
