We wanted to like this hotel and there were some positives. The room was well laid out, had a comfortable bed and a good bathroom. We had a harbour view, so that was nice. I cannot complain about the quality of the room. However, they were doing renovations and there was no bar/lounge area. Fortunately, we had booked a room with access to the Club Lounge so we had our breakfasts and evening drinks there. (I personally am not in love with Club Lounges, but in this case were very thankful for it.) The weather was so bad, we didn't want to leave the hotel so the lack of amenities was very difficult. When we asked about a bar, the staff told us they didn't have one and that the ones across the street would be too crowded so there were no options. I just felt that the hotel didn't really care much about your experience, or maybe they were just tired because of the ongoing renovations.

This is from my experience only. I stayed here with my almost 2 year old and partner. 1. The nearest car park available at that time was either basement 2 or 3 (level without an elevator) which meant we had to either carry the child / pram etc all the way up the stairs or walk on the road up to the nearest level that had an elevator. 2. TV is surprisingly NOT a smart TV, which means you had to screen share from your device if you wanted to log in and use your netflix/Disney etc. However, no one could get our TV to screenshare in our room. 3. Pool is not suited for a toddler and a short adult, pool depth is about 5'3ft. But honestly I would still highly recommend this 5-star hotel (if you go with older kids). The hotel and room was immaculately clean, the workers were welcoming and always had a smile. Room service is fast. Gym, pool, spa and sauna is clean better than the public gyms and pools.

Centrally located. Harbour view rooms have a great view. Recommend a Club Room which gives access to a really good club lounge which we used extensively. Well worth the extra cost. Great greeting on arrival. Room a little dated - a bit less brown and fawn would improve it no end. Wifi was good. Walking distance of many of Wellington's attractions, including Te Papa.

I usually have a preferred hotel in Wellington, but circumstances meant I had to stay here—and I’m glad I did. I think I’ve found my new go-to. The rooms are immaculate, spacious, and well-appointed. The lobby is a beautifully designed space with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a stunning fireplace—perfect for meetings, catching up with friends, or simply unwinding after a long day. What truly sets this hotel apart is the service. This is the kind of place where you can have breakfast one morning and return the next to find the staff not only remember your name but also your coffee order and the small details of how you like your breakfast served. The concierge was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the local area, offering thoughtful and accurate recommendations. They were also fun to have a conversation with. The only downside was the dinner experience—while the food was of excellent quality, the portion sizes were exceptionally small, leaving our group having to order multiple additional dishes. In a venue of this calibre, modest portions are expected, but in this case they felt inadequate. I must say the staff service was amazing though. Despite that, the overall experience more than made up for it. I’ve found my new preferred hotel in Wellington.

We stayed here for four nights with our kids, and it was such a lovely experience overall. The location is absolutely unbeatable. Te Papa, the waterfront, the playground, supermarkets, pharmacies, and even the cable car are all 10minute walk. It made getting around with children so easy and stress-free. The hotel’s signature Buzzbee High Tea was a highlight—fun and eye-catching for the kids, but also genuinely delicious and beautifully presented, even for adults. A real treat for the whole family. Our room was spacious and comfortable, which made a big difference during a longer stay. But what really stood out was the service. While the check-in staff weren’t the warmest at first, the rest of the team more than made up for it. The restaurant and lobby lounge staff were particularly kind and welcoming, and the valet/concierge team was absolutely outstanding—friendly, helpful, and always ready with a smile. Breakfast each morning became something we looked forward to, not just because of the food but because of the warm atmosphere created by the lovely staff. It was a wonderful place to come back to after each busy day, and we left with such good memories. We’d definitely love to stay here again.

Lovely room, fantastic location and nice breakfast. Renovations are unfortunate. We didn't realise at first, as we weren't told ahead of time and wondered why reception was odd and in two different places (concierge at entrance and check-in on level 2). There's currently no restaurant and nowhere to lounge, and breakfast was set up in one of the conference rooms - not the most atmospheric. One request would be at breakfast not to have meat dishes in the same heated trays as non-meat items, and not to have the cold cut meats right next to other things - people tend to use the same utensil for multiple dishes so you don't know what you're getting when you pick up a spoon/tongs. I didn't hear any renovation noise while we were there.

Superb hotel with amazing staff! You cannot go wrong with the Intercontinental and this location was gorgeous. Rooms were spacious and clean and bed was incredibly comfortable. The TV had more channels than I have ever seen at any other hotel. The indoor pool is nice as well as the sauna. Breakfast is a really nice spread with many options. The location is walking distance to the downtown area, maybe about 10-15 minutes walking to Cuba Street. Highly recommend!

Excellent choice for a Wellington hotel, love the location so close to the water to head out for a wander or a run. I have tried a number of Wellington hotels now but find this the most convenient and consistent in terms of service. ||The room was faultless with great views of the Harbour on a high floor as requested per the room category. Yes agree.. the hotel is not the newest but I loved the service. ||Will be my ongoing choice for Wellington travel from now on, |Stayed 25th June - ||p.s. in house reservations team was great and very friendly. |See you in July!
