The question on my mind is would the experience match the pre-restriction visits of the last decade. The answer was an emphatic Yes.||From the moment of the pick up by Benjamin at Wellington airport, I felt the soft charm and reliable, safe pair of hands of yesteryear at work. ||I knew that restoration work was underway on the Ground Floor, but on arrival, I was checked in on the Club Level. It was once in the club lounge that I really felt a sense of the Gold Standard that I had always experienced.||The Lounge has outstanding views, a quiet adult atmosphere and a range of food options which are a match for any Club offer. The staff engage and know their role is to serve, suggest and guide, not simply sit behind a screen.||I was genuinely flabbergasted when I arrived at breakfast, and they asked if I would like my usual Smoothie. Despite everything, years-old records had been retained. bravo!||My room faced the harbour and ticked all the boxes. Most importantly, it was at the end of a corridor so quiet, though I noticed the guests staying seemed to be a throwback to the respectful quiet consideration of others, which these days is sadly under threat far too often. People seemed to know how to use their phones in a considerate manner. These review systems ask you to consider the hotel amenities. However, other guests' behaviour is a very important part of the mix and can have a substantial impact on your enjoyment. ||The pool had been upgraded and was the perfect place for an early morning swim, sauna and hot tub. ||My heart felt thanks to Yumiko Becker, who led the team in Club, the two chefs on duty over the period of my stay, for their inventive cooking and Benjamin and David, my drivers. ||I look forward to returning and bathing in the charm of the IC Wellington.
