We booked this because it's overlooking the river, so thought we would get nice views and will be quiet as it's not on a busy road... only half of that is true though, the views are nice, but the noise from the river is crazy during the day, starting at about 7am until 8pm you get constant noisy boats going up and down it.
The hotel could have put in proper insulated windows to block that out, but they didn't.
And if there's any noise going on at the bar downstairs, well, you're hearing that too! (But every night was quiet by 12 ish).
Could hear the people in the room above walking around as well quite loudly.
We asked for a room on a high floor when we booked months in advance... but we were given a room on the ground floor. Maybe if they had read the request and given us what we wanted, we would have got a quieter room and a better review, but they didn't so they get this salty review instead.
They only gave us 1 key card for the room... we asked for more, but were told no more are available. Seriously? Only having 1 card per room is really poor. We were 2 people doing different things in the day so made it annoying to coordinate who had the key to get in.
There was only ever 1 front of house staff, and they were always pretty unfriendly. I don't understand it, our hotel in Luang Prabang, and Vientiane, the staff have big friendly smiles at the front desk, but here, there's just 1 person playing on their phone who doesn't even look up at you. And the time I tried saying hello, I just got a grunt back.
Breakfast, eh, very average. Only ever 3 varieties of fruit available, any "hot" food was cold. They do have an egg bar... but they pre-make fried eggs, so if you want fried eggs they give you the older ones that are now cold, and then make a new fresh one to replace the old ones you just took. I tried asking for "fresh" fried eggs, but they had no idea what I was saying. I'd get it if it was busy and there was a high turn over of fried eggs, but it never was.
One nice plus point, they give you a glass bottle of water in the room and a place to refill it in the lobby, I wish all hotels did this.
