Cute local museum by Mary Frances Chisholm (pictured) who grew up in a coal mining family here, runs this museum and has lots of personal stories to tell. If you’re looking for local colour, this is it. Note, they recently moved. Their building is now the one that says Service Canada on the side and Ned MacDonald Historical Complex over their door. (see photo) (photos on older reviews show their former location)

Make sure you know that the museum is just the one room that you see before you pay the entrance fee. The guided tour was nice but it was sort of necessary because the museum was mostly just artifacts, not much information.

We stopped in at the museum today and it was a wonderful experience. The museum is filled with a variety of items and stories about the town and mining. The gentlemen who worked there was both informative and helpful. I would definitely recommend that you stop by and take a look around if you are in the area.

Great collection of memorabilia from the 19th and 20th century. The history of Inverness coal mining is commemorated and illustrated for visitors.

Interesting museum, I learned a lot about the history of Inverness and the mines. Take the time to watch the movie if you can. The staff is very welcoming!

The guided tour with Ben made the history come alive! He was a mine of information. Older collection and curation, but the tour made it so worthwhile. Thanks again, Ben

Nice museum, and incredibly interesting to know the history of the town better. Francis was knowledgeable and nice to talk to.
