This marvellous cottage and visitor centre will be one of our most memorable visits on the Wold Atlantic Way.
Knowing next to nothing about the leader of the failed 1916 uprising, we came away with a much better understanding of this scholarly and influential man, executed by the British after he surrendered, but whose influence lives on today - many think he was the saviour of the Irish language.
The visitor centre is full of very well put together pieces explaining aspects of Pearse’s life and the local culture he was so committed to. The interactive piece explaining how Irish places are named is but one example.
The cottage itself is fascinating and in a beautiful setting. The staff we saw were enthusiastic and very knowledgeable but also excellent communicators.
Britain’s role in Ireland has some very dark aspects but but let this put you off - you will be very welcome there, as we were.
