All Nippon Airways Serving the Tastiest Ramen in the Sky

"Opened in Hakata in 1985 and renowned for Hakata-style tonkotsu with thin, chewy wheat noodles, this ramen shop developed a plant-based “pla-ton” that convincingly recreates the creamy, porky depth of traditional tonkotsu—even at 36,000 feet. In collaboration with an airline, the vegan bowl pairs springy, perfectly al dente thin noodles with a silky, full-bodied broth, finished with crackly nori, verdant scallions, and a branded red pepper paste. The recipe and production were engineered to withstand cooling, reheating, and dry cabin air—maintaining moisture, umami, and texture—so the dish remains rich and savory in-flight; while the exact broth formula is kept secret, past plant-based iterations have used ingredients like soy milk, mushrooms, kombu dashi, and infused oils. Created to broaden inclusive meal options, the vegan ramen delivers surprising “porkiness” and comfort, earning praise as one of the coziest and best bowls of noodles the reviewer has had, whether aloft or on the ground." - Gabriela Gutierrez

Google
Although we had a miscommunication with our order, the English speaking waitress was able to correct the mistake. The broth was tasty and the noodles were chewy. Perfect place to go if you just arrived in Fukuoka. I've tried a lot of ramen noodles, and this is the second place ramen I've been to.. It's not cheap, but baby seat is available if needed.

Google
Ippudo started with one location in Fukuoka, now have 200+ locations worldwide. There's always a line. I rank Ippudo above Ichiran. Instead of the vending machine type of ordering, there's an iPad now. We ordered the Shiromaru Classic and the Akamaru Modern. Both are very good. Beer and gyoza are available. This is a convenient location, 10th Floor of the AMU Plaza at Hakata Station. Service was excellent.

Google
Delicious Ramen and great atmosphere. On the 10th floor of the center building (suggest taking an elevator). Took one star out because I noticed they charged us more because we ordered off the English menus. ($2, so didn't make a fuss). Excellent food and good portion size

Google
I recently visited Ippudo and had an excellent experience. The ramen here is top-notch, with delicious flavors that truly hit the spot. Not only is the quality great, but the prices are reasonable too, making it a fantastic value for the portion size and taste. The service was also exceptional; the staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I highly recommend Ippudo for anyone craving good ramen, great service, and a good value for their money.

This place is an absolute 10! Out of five stars it is still a ten. The food was great the staff were unbelievably courteous and in an all-around good mood. If you’re in Hakata station don’t hesitate

Google
Very tasty ramen for a reasonable price. Definitely recommend coming here. The modern version has the perfect balance of spice, giving just the right kick to go alongside the beautiful broth.

Google
Ramen is amazing. The mentaiko rice bowl is meh. Price is great for what you get (for the ramen) so it was a good trip.

Enjoyed with friends, very nice waitress helping order when we have questions. Large size and regular just your choice.

Yelp
On floor 10 of ASU shopping plaza...take the elevators up. You'll also find other restaurants on the 9 and 10th floors of the shopping center. Ippudo is solid- they have locations in NY and they never fail me. Fast service and delicious ramen. The only difference is for the combo meal with rice and gyoza it comes out to $10 USD...that's a cheap meal compared to the hefty NY bowl for $20. Their Tonkatsu ramen is always on point...this is considered fast food when in Japan.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with Ippudo. People will say you're either an Ippudo or Ichiran person. I say: Why not be both? The two Tonkotsu ramen chains don't have to compete with each other when people out there can eat ramen multiple times a week. I stayed near Hakata station so commuted through it everyday and on my last night, well spent and winding down, I popped into this location for its reliability. That, and I couldn't find an Ichiran. Tonkotsu ramen specifically they say originated in Fukuoka, so being that this location is in Fukuoka, maybe I had anticipated a distinguishable spark of quality even at a chain restaurant, which is kind of silly in retrospect. Still, something was lacking here, and it was not in customer service or the much anticipated firmness of noodles. Tonkotsu is a pork bone broth and this is the first thing you should know. In my humble opinion this is the superior base to start building ramen. Ippudo keeps it bulletproof with only three options: Shiromaru: the original Akamaru: miso it up Karaka: spice it up

Yelp
Perfection in a bowl, I had the Karaka spice level 3. A 3 was pretty hot and I love spicy. The noodles were perfectly chewy! I also got a set that included a Suntory draft and the cutest and most delicate gyoza. Located on the 10th floor of station and on other side of building from elevators. Dining at 5 pm in a weekday and there was no line.

Yelp
Ippudo was first started in Fukuoka by Shigemi Kawahara, which means "one wind hall". His first restaurant opened in 1985, in the Daimyo District of Chuo Ward, in Fukuoka City, Japan. I was just there on business this past November. Gradually the number of restaurants expanded from regional areas to the whole of Japan and even other cities outside of Japan. In 2008, the first overseas restaurant opened in New York City's (NYC) East Village, with another location in Midtown West opening in 2013. Both locations in NYC are highly rated by the locals. The first time I visited here I had to wait for a single seat, because the restaurant was crowded. I waited only about 10 minutes for my single seat, because turnover is pretty frequent here. I ate the 8 spice ramen at this Hakata location on the 10th floor of the Hakata Station during both of my visits. I was very pleased with both meals. That is why I returned for my second visit. I really enjoy my 8 spices. I will definitely return here again. After my visit I heard from the locals that Ippudo has the best ramen in Fukuoka and Japan.

Yelp
It's a really famous tonkotsu: milky soup with pork broth ramen noodle restaurant. I was asked which I like better Ippudo or Ichiran. I'm sure you know the answer according to my stars. First you must wait in a long long line. As soon as you take a seat, you should order barikata: super hard because that's my favorite;) If your stomach is tough and you need tons of collagen for your dry skin, please drink up all the soup at the end. Then you'll be amazingly full. I usually take tums aft this and move to Ichiran! Customer service is pretty good. Fast and sharp. I'm sure you will have a fantastic Japanese cultural experience there.

Yelp
If you are in Hakata station and looking for a ramen this is a nice place. I mean, it's convenient. If you don't mind going a bit futher, I would choose this place... They have some pretty nice stuff on the menu. Price is a bit high for what you get, in my opinion. Staff was very nice, but took a bunch of time to bring us spicy sauce (even if the restaurant wasn't full). Speaking about spicy sauce, they don't have it and will give you a powder instead. BE CAREFUL this thing is really really spicy, like don't put it in your mouth spicy! Tried the gyozas, not convinced... had some way better in some other places.

Yelp
YUM! I've been to the Ippudo in NYC, so when my aunty suggested we eat ramen for dinner while in Fukuoka, a quick go-to, no-brainer, was here! After our long flight from Hawaii to Fukuoka, and just like Chris H's review, Ippudo was our savior! This location was right in the Hakata train station in one of the shopping buildings attached on the 10th floor. We waited around 10 minutes for a table - we had a group of 5, and it's always harder to seat larger parties in Japan! I ordered the shiro tonkotsu which is a "white" pork broth garnished with char siu, green onion, black wood ear mushroom, egg, and nori. Noodles come in the texture of your choice "soft, medium, hard". We ordered "medium" and it came perfectly al dente and the noodles itself were flavorful! The broth was a little rich but if you're familiar with tonkotsu broth, this is a guarantee winner. Each of our ramen was about $7. We also shared gyoza which was perfectly cooked, fresh, and steamy hot! Price for 10 pieces was about $4. So cheap! Their menu was small - less choices than NYC which had the ah-maazing pork buns. I guess the US vamped up their menu but the quality in Japan is unheard of. Seriously, the best food ever! Definitely one of my favorite ramen chains. Can't go wrong with Ippudo!

Yelp
Came by for dinner on a weekend The line wrapped around the corner, but do not let that dissuade you from waiting. There were about 15 people in front of me, but it moved quickly. A fast tempo was the theme of the restaurant. I waited about 7 minutes in line, just enough time to decide and order. I sat for 2 minutes before my food appeared in front of me. I had a Modern special, with an extra normal size serving of noodles and 10 piece gyoza, for about $16 USD. Lots of food. I have to say I cannot tell the difference in ramen between this Japan location and the ones in New York. The servers were great, very friendly and had the special ability read my mind and decipher my hand gestures. Loved the restaurant, food and service, but if you've had ippudo elsewhere, have a limited number of meals to eat in Japan, trying another restaurant is not a bad idea.

Yelp
After a 10-hour flight and a transit from Tokyo to Fukuoka, I felt like I had been fed through a meat grinder. Exhausted and famished, I met up with my girlfriend who immediately pounced me upon descending to the luggage claim area. After collecting my personal effects, I was guided by her through Hakata Station to find the holy grail of the ramen gods... Ippuudou Ramen 一風堂ラーメン *\(^o^)/* I ordered the Akamaru (No, you Naruto fans. Don't freak out.) and my girlfriend ordered the Shiromaru. Akamaru (***** 5/5): The broth was spectacular -- it was rich in a tonkotsu pork broth, slightly spicy, and left you wanting more. With most ramen, the chaashuu is the best part, but you'll want to nurse this baby even after devouring the chaashuu. Quite possibly the best bowl of raamen I've ever had. Shiromaru (*** 3/5): They used what tasted like a seafood-based broth to create a lighter flavor. It was good, but the Akamaru had much more flavor to it. Still an enjoyable choice for those who don't want something as heavy. I make it a point to hit up this place whenever I'm in Fukuoka, but really wish they'd open up a location here in Southern California.

Yelp
This was a disappointment. It doesn't taste bad, but it's not that good either. The ramen was thin and felt mass produced. The broath was rather blend and didn't have the Umph of a thick, heavy and cooked for a long time broath that I prefer. The restaurant personell are very nice and effective. The restaurant it self is good looking and accommodates 30-40 customers. Apparently there is a much better ramen restaurant in the basement. There is a question line outside but the tempo is high and we didn't have to wait long to get our seating for 6 persons. If you are in a hurry and need to eat ramen this is ok, or if food isn't your passion this works as a good resource of nutrition intake, but if youre looking for a culinary treat I suggest you start looking for the other restaurant in the basement.

Yelp
Was super excited to come to Hakata and try what they are known for, their ramen. What better place than Ippudo? I guess I was wrong. Not too excited by the flavoring of the ramen or gyoza. Tried the original and spicy ramen.

Yelp
Excellent service in both Nihongo n English. Helpful and cheerful waiting staff. Noodles were well prepared, broth extremely tasty and condiments sufficient. It was a worthwhile dining experience n Ippudo lived up to its reputation !

Yelp
By ear, the Ippudo is a favorite. Sesame seeds make a difference, so try it if you can. Gyoza may be small, but sure is tasty. Menu is easy to understand, which makes the experience that much better, if you are in the same boat as me - not speaking the native language. Quality ramen and way cheaper with better quality.

Yelp
When it comes to food in Japan, I think the best ones are in the train stations. This one is no exception. In the Hakata Train Station. 博 多

Yelp
It locates on the 10th floor of AMU Hakata station building. I went at 7pm of Wednesday, there is no queue :) Nice staffs. English menu is also available. I ordered Ramen, Gyoza and Shashu don. They are very very delicious.

Yelp
In spite of the Ippudo empire growing far and wide, they still serve up a good bowl of ramen. Sure the noodles are prepackaged and come out of boxes, but the tonkotsu broth is rich and flavorful. The egg in the soup was cooked o perfection with a delicate outside and warm gooey yolk which coated the noodles after piercing. The spicy ramen is also a great option. A sesame seed grinder was a big hit with the group adding a nice nutty flavor to the broth. Seating is communal at low countertops meaning unsolicited(but always appreciated)advice may be forthcoming. Service is overly friendly as seems to be the norm in Japan with the entire restaurant staff stopping to both great you and say farewell as you leave. There is also a small gift shop selling boxed ramen to take home.

Yelp
Excellent ramen! A bit pricey but just about everything at Hakata Station is. I tried the akamaru special and would definitely recommend it. The broth is rich and very flavorful. Presentation was very nice as well.

Yelp
This location of Ippudo is conveniently located above Hakata Station. I had a few hour layover in Fukuoka, so I took a short subway ride to Hakata Station for some shopping and lunch at my favorite ramen chain. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is casual and comfortable, but most of all the ramen is delicious.

Yelp
Just got into town from L.A. and yelped this place. It was an easy place to find and there was no wait time to be seated. The ramen were delicious and the staff were very nice!
