Visiting Budapest: 3 - 4 Day Suggested Itinerary (Updated 2025)

"This Turkish-style bath—constructed in 1575—is one of the oldest and arguably most beautiful baths in town, offering a luxurious, historic bathing experience." - Matthew Kepnes

6 of the hottest thermal baths in Budapest, Hungary that locals can’t get enough of - SilverKris

"Tucked behind a glass wall on hospital grounds and easy to miss unless you know where to look, this recently renovated bath retains echoes of its Ottoman past in details like stones inscribed with Arabic script. Not part of the official bath network and limited to 80 visitors at a time, it offers a quieter, less crowded experience for those seeking a more discreet, historic soak." - SilverKris

Small but beautiful, with a very good price for morning visit (4500 Ft!) and I spent 2.5 hours there. Five pools in the beautiful dome section followed by two saunas and two steam rooms. A hidden gem.

It was a bit difficult to find as we didn't think it would be within a hospital building. You have to use the hospital entrance to get to the place. We had a great relaxing time in different pools. There are different temperature pools to choose from. It closes a lot later than most of the other bath. It's a lot cheaper than the other popular place with tourists.

Great little bath for an early morning visit. Mostly frequented by locals at such an early hour, but much less crowded compared to the public baths. The facilities are a little simpler compared to the bigger baths, but everything was tremendously clean and if you are just interested in the Turkish bath then the pools there would be enough for a good hour or two of relaxation. One thing to note is that the longer swimming area could be used by hospital patients for water aerobics and would be closed to bath visitors. Slight inconvenience for me but not too big of a deal.

Historic Turkish bath recently renovated and currently in pristine condition. One large central thermal pool under the main roof with four smaller pools on the side with gradually increasing temperature. Saunas, steam baths and hydro-therapeutic pools complete the offering. Can highly recommend!

Veli Bej Baths is a fantastic spot to relax and enjoy a traditional Hungarian bath experience. The facilities are clean, well-maintained, and offer a variety of pools and saunas to suit different preferences. It’s a perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing or just to treat yourself to some self-care. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, with friendly staff who make sure everything runs smoothly. The baths are conveniently located and not as crowded as some of the more famous ones, which adds to the overall peaceful feeling. One important thing to note is that the maximum time allowed for a visit is three hours, which is plenty of time to enjoy the pools and relax fully without feeling rushed. The prices are fair considering the quality of the facilities and the experience you get. Whether you want a quick dip or a longer soak, Veli Bej Baths offers a great balance of comfort and authenticity. Overall, it’s a highly recommended place for anyone wanting to experience Hungarian thermal baths in a pleasant and convenient setting. Five stars for the atmosphere, cleanliness, and overall value.

A very good bath, really clean and worth the visit. Negative points and reasons for 3 stars: - poor service and very rude - many pools not working and the price wasn't adjusted. Overall, a 3/5 experience. Check if all pools are available before committing.

Very underrated bath but/hence the unfriendly service towards tourists. The lockers often malfunction and the staff blamed it on me without offering an apology for making me wait half an hour of my precious 3 hours in the bath. The members are also unfriendly towards guests/tourists. One member told me and my friend that she "hopes we go home tomorrow" and claimed that she can speak to us however she likes because she has dual citizenship and is a member and we are just guests. All I have to say is that if you don't want tourists then maybe don't let them in. I paid for my time in the bath and I feel let down that I was not respected as a customer.

Really lovely bath and helpful staff! The baths are located inside the building and through the glass doors. Security had kindly opened the doors to let me in and show me where you could get into the baths. From there, they speak some English at the front desk. In the evening, I paid 5500 HUF for a few hours. Bring your swimwear, towel, flip flops and some body wash/soap, but you can rent some towels and a few other things out. They have lockers available. They have a jacuzzi, swimming pool (on the smaller side), different Turkish baths of different temperatures as well as sauna and steam rooms. It was very relaxing, thank you to the staff!
