Wow this place was amazing! And free!? You can donate and I highly recommend it! They do great work, so informative. Not just about the cat too but about all the animals and nature around.

Don't miss visiting this place if you are on Iriomote! Fantastic displays of the flora and fauna of this amazing island. We visited the center after spending 5 days on the island, having the opportunity to learn and recognize animals and plants we have seen on our hikes and river trips. Entrance is free.

I highly recommend visiting this place to anyone visiting Iriomote island. The quality of the display is amazing. The whole ecosystem living on Iriomote is displayed thoroughly. It is a free entrance and if you are interested in nature you'll easily spend at least an hour learning about the hidden beauties of the island. I want to go again next time I pass on Iriomote. Fantastic place, do not miss it

Such a fun, free educational experience! It's amazing what the island went through to take care of the stray cat population, and then implement conservation efforts to ensure their unique mammal (and mascot) thrives. I have a feeling that the cat accidents on island involve locals more than tourists. We stuck to the speed limit but were frequently passed by locals driving 60 kph. We have an appreciation for the island, and this little center was well worth a stop. Make sure to give a donation before you leave!

A small museum. Free entry. There's information in both Japanese and English about the wildlife on the island. Probably the only place you will see a (stuffed) Iriomote wildcat! You can find out lots more about the wildcats. We spent about 45 minutes here.

Center itself is great with well designed and informative exhibits. There is no taxi service on Iriomote (or there was none in February 2025, no Uber or Lyft either). The bus runs once every three hours or so depending on the season. Unless you have rented a car or motor scooter, check the bus schedules in advance or you may be stranded.

It's a very nice place to learn about the island and the animals saw this place in an anime over a decade ago
