Google
Great bike shop and wonderful staff - friendly and knowledgeable. Turnaround was same day for my problem, while I waited. They also just generally helped out with my riding experience. I really can’t recommend these folks enough.

Kara Bowers

Google
Best bike shop in the area! I’m pretty new to cycling, and I brought my bike by this morning. Josh was amazing and immediately diagnosed and fixed my issue in minutes. Every time I come the staff here is extremely helpful and warm. Highly recommend!

Google
Replaced a spoke and re-trued my back wheel for a cheaper price than I've seen anywhere else. Plus he did it in a few minutes while I watched instead of having to leave it overnight. Wow!

Google
This is the only bike shop in Pittsburgh I'll be going to. Not only is Josh super friendly and personable, he does a great job ensuring the bike you bring in will be safe and ridable without upcharging or talking down to you. This is a quality shop, and if I'm ever in a situation that I know will be a quick fix, Josh will take care of it immediately while I wait. We'll be coming back for full tune-ups in the near future where we will be checking our bikes in! Thanks for being great and welcoming!

My bike was damaged when someone tried to steal it. The guys at iron City bikes help me out. They fixed it up quickly. I highly recommend iron City bikes for your bike repair needs.

Google
Got a flat after my commute to Pitt and saw no bike shops were open or very close. As I was walking back over the icy sidewalks toward Millvale with a useless hunk of a bike, a fellow approached me and asked if I needed help. I thought he was being a smartass, but he quickly told me he worked at a nearby bike store, and even though it was his day off, he could help. Ten minutes later, I had a new inner tube and a greater respect for humanity and the smalltown vibe that Pittsburgh shows out in spades. Josh rocks and this store is becoming my new favorite. Thanks again, my friends.

Google
Came in to look for some supplies today for my bike and they had no stock of accessories at all. Fairly dirty store, too.

Google
I came in and needed a seat post and seat. They guy( I should have gotten his name) was supper helpful and friendly. He installed the seat post, seat and added air to my tires. I wanted to tip him, but he said don't and to leave a review.

Yelp
Exceptional customer service. Made sure I understood how to work every detail of bike rack and bike. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, generous and concerned... highly recommend purchasing here! Repairs and maintenance also excellent!

Yelp
Saviors!!! Helped with a flat when I really needed it. I highly recommend this place !!!!!

Yelp
Came limping into the shop with a broken spoke and thankfully they weren't swamped, as I came to town for Labor Day to ride. Got to spend some time talking to the owner and techs about bikes, Pittsburgh, and more bikes and had a blast. They got me rolling better than I entered and suggested I get some more work when i get home. My senses were overloaded with the bridges, hills, colors and unique architecture. Pittsburgh is an amazing place to ride, and if you have an ebike, this city would be a perfect place to put it to use. The hills are mostly doable, but some are just impossible depending on your gearing. Thanks again guys for saving my long weekend. I love your city!

Yelp
These guys were so nice! On a whim I brought in a bike that had been sitting in my parents garage for a really really long time and they were like "roll it down and let's take a look." He checked everything out for me, inflated my tires, installed a new kickstand, and lubed up all the parts. It seriously made my day bc I was able to immediately go riding. As for the sales end, they had tons of bikes of all kinds, parts, accessories, you name it. Definitely come here for all of your bike needs!

Yelp
I've always had a good experience with Iron City Bikes. They were the first shop I bought a bike from in Pittsburgh and I've had many repairs, adjustments, and parts ordered through the shop since then. They have always been helpful when diagnosing problems with my bikes and explaining what needed to be done and were happy to sell me the parts to do my own repairs as well when I preferred to do that. Prices are reasonable for service and parts and the turnaround has always been quick on repairs where I had to leave the bike for service. No pushiness or elitism, just good service. Iron City Bikes will always be one of my favorite bike shops in the city.

Yelp
You want friendly staff? They got it. What about reasonable prices? You better believe it. Product and service expertise? They're busting at the seams with it. Nachos? Hopefully soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Best bike shop ever! The bike technicians know what they're doing. I was in a bind with my bike and they fixed it at a reasonable cost. Stay safe!

Yelp
Iron City Bikes is a super awesome bike shop. I find it super convenient since I live next door but, but the guys there a super friendly and prices are very reasonable!

Yelp
I bought a new bike from Iron City bikes this feeling. Excellent service and very friendly employees.

Yelp
Best bike shop in town. I bought a bike several years ago and brought it in to get fixed. These guys went the extra mile and got it fixed and road ready. Total pleasure doing business at Iron City Bikes. It's nice to know that there are still businesses out there that care about their customers. I recommend this place to friends.

Yelp
A long-time cycling establishment located behind Pitt Univ's Hillman Library. They've relocated next door to The Franktuary restaurant. Hoping to share my love of cycling, by patronizing this jewel. However, my heart belongs to Biketek in Squirrel Hill, Frank B.

Yelp
Absolutely AMAZING service!!! We called iron city bikes to see if they had an air pump after we noticed my bike tires were flat. They told us to come right in and we brought the bikes around the bike when we got there. They took my bike to fill up the tire and in the process did a completely inspection and tune up of my bike (fixed hardware on the front, fixed back brakes, greased the chain). Next, they grabbed my friends bike without us even asking and brought it back with air filled tires, fixed front brakes, and greased the gears. After all of these things being done, I asked how much it was for the tune up of TWO bikes. NOTHING! They did the entire thing for absolutely free of charge. I will be coming back here for all of my bike needs. THANK YOU!!!

Yelp
The best Local Bike Shop service I have ever done business with. I will recommend anyone and everyone to come here. Took my bike in expecting it to be totaled. Not only did they get the bike back to great condition the same day, but it was an affordable expense as well. Extremely nice team that works there. They took the extra time to talk me through everything. I was very happy by the end of it.

Yelp
I was going for a bike ride near Butler street and my brakes on my bike broke! I didn't know how i would get back home and I was upset thinking it would take weeks to get fixed. However, Glenn at Iron City Bikes saved me! He was super nice and friendly and did not hesitate to help me fix my bike right away. He fixed my bike in less than 10 mins and proved to be extremely knowledgeable. Just like that I was able to finish my bike ride. He is a life saver! I will definitely come her for all my bike needs in the future. I highly recommend Iron City Bikes. It really meant a lot to me how selfless he was and how fast he responded to help me.

Yelp
The bike man was not pushy. He was helpful. I just went in to have my 25 year old Trek bike boxed up for $35 and I ended up buying a bike lock and having the bike tuned up. Its a great location with parking in the back and very easy to get to from the freeway. It's a nice drive in my mother's Juke with Pittbull and Ne-Yo tuned in:} I'm awaiting the phone call so that I can go to Amtrak and send it. I called (5) shops before I chose this shoppe.

Yelp
I live just outside DC, but traveled to Pittsburgh in mid-September so that I could ride the full length of the GAP and C&O Canal, Pittsburgh to DC. I had already shipped my bike to the FedEx on Forbes (much cheaper than checking it on my flight). The FedEx guys were very nice, and let me reassemble my bike inside their store. So I got my bike almost fully assembled - but then discovered that I did not know how to reattach the brake cables. You can't do a 360-mile ride without brakes! Fortunately, before my trip I had googled to see if there was a bike shop nearby, just in case I needed emergency repairs. So I thanked the FedEx guys, and walked my bike the several blocks to Iron City Bicycles. They already had a backlog of repairs, and initially said that they couldn't look at my bike for another day or two. But I had to be on the trail the next morning, and couldn't wait that long. So Chris, one of the mechanics, quickly showed me how to reattach the brake cables. Had I left at that point, I would have been in for a nasty surprise - because my front derailleur cable had been broken during shipment, and I hadn't noticed it. But Chris did, and though he didn't have the proper cable housing in stock, he still managed to get it repaired - and I didn't have any troubles with shifting over the entire five-day journey. Initially he wasn't even going to charge me, but I insisted that he take something - so we settled on $8. That would never happen in DC! While Chris was working on the cable, I got to chat with the owner about our respective experiences riding the Canal towpath. He even gave me a fistful of ICB decals when I left, one of which now proudly adorns my bike's rear rack. A very cool shop, with helpful and friendly guys working in it. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I will never set foot in this store ever again after today. About three weeks ago I brought my bike to them after a friend suggested the store to fix a warped chain that was extremely annoying. Upon inspection from the guys, the gears were also wearing very poorly because of the warped chain, so they suggested to replace those too. I figured why not, might as well get the whole assembly fixed up nice. They needed to order one part, which would take about a week. The following Thursday I get a phone call that the part was in and I immediately brought my bike to the shop for them to fix and I left it with them. Before I left, I asked about how long they thought it would take to fix it. I was told they would try to get to it on Friday, and if not I'd have it early next week. Great! I'm all excited, it's just gonna suck to have to walk everywhere for a few days, but it'll be worth it. So 4th of July weekend comes and goes, didn't get my bike on Friday, (Monday was the 4th) Tuesday, or Wednesday. So on Thursday, I call and they tell me that they've been very busy and backed up and shorthanded and they didn't come in over the holiday weekend to work. He can't give me an exact update other than there are only 3 bikes ahead of mine. No call Thursday. On Friday I call again. It's now a week after they told me I should expect my bike. They inform me that they should be getting to it that day. Low and behold, late afternoon I get a phone call that it's ready. At 5 after work, I go and pick it up. I pay them and I ride home without a problem. Yesterday, I rode to work without a problem. When I went home last night, the gears started skipping. I wasn't having this problem before they fixed the bike though, so I was very confused. This morning, I'm on my way to work, just pulling out of my street onto Neglley and the gears skipped in the middle of the road. I also got hit!! Scared the hell out of me. A normal 10 minute bike ride took close to 20 minutes because I couldn't get proper power out of my bike. Today at 11, when the shop opened, I was their first customer. I brought the bike in and the tech took a look at the chain and said one of the links was busted. The chain is 4 days old. So he fixed it free of charge by just replacing the broken link. Either way, I don't like the fact that a chain broke so easily. I paid over $120 for them to keep my bike for a week and for me to have to go back a few days later because something they replaced had already broke. Like I said at the top, I'll never go back...

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
Great bike shop. This is our go to bike shop when our kids need a new bike as they grow. They sell quality bikes and won't try to sell you more than need/want. Service and bike tune up also excellent. Glad they are in the neighborhood!

Matt R.

Yelp
I put a bike together myself so obviously i had huge problems with everything. I pulled my bike around back and sat there for a second before someone came to help me out. They were super busy but the guy behind the counter said "don't worry about it" and fixed my chain/brake issue in like 10 minutes. I'm sure I'll have more issues with my bike, and I'll be going back 100%. Great customer service.

Yelp
My experience with Iron City is good, actually excellent - though not perfect. I got the brainy idea to bike to work, 22 or 50 miles depending on whether or not I used PAT's bike rack for part of the trip. I met the crew at Iron City when I took my Bike Friday Hyper-fold Tikit in for its first tune up. That was 3 years and 3,000+ miles ago. They did a nice job and had an eye for detail, "Did that Friday come with the King headset?" Over the years they have done a complete overhaul and all manner of repair. Because the Tikit was manufactured with a defect I suffered through some frame issues and the Iron City guys were my advocates every step of the way. They typically give me a discount on special order parts and, surprise surprise, nearly everything for the Tikit is special order. They often build bikes for customers - this frame, that bottom bracket etc, etc and have a loyal following of bicycle junkies. I was sorry to see Luke leave for a different job but Steve (as kind a soul as ever drew a breath) and Bob (the owner) were both there the last time I was in. I'm sorry that Andrew G. had such a bad experience. I'm sure that getting hit by a car is no fun. I suggest asking Bob to make things right. I have to agree with Aaron Jacob W that the gentlemen at Iron City are extreme. They are extremely knowledgable. They are also characters and Bob can have an edge. I can live with that and I prefer to not live without Iron City Bikes. P.S. I'm lying about valet parking.

Yelp
This bike shop is a cool little place. It's conveniently located in Oakland and does sales, repairs, as well as plans some events for the cycling community here in Pittsburgh. I am a mountain biker, so I haven't really gone to any events, but I am sure they're fun! Got my bike tuned up (she was in such neglected shape, I'm sorry!!!!) there for around $45. It was worth it, they did it quickly and well and didn't come up with any bogus things that needed to be fixed (unlike some other shops I've been to). I'll definitely be going back here if needed! You can even enjoy a margarita at Mad Mex which is a block or so away while you wait. :D Just don't bike (too) drunk!

Yelp
It doesn't get better than this... I love this spot. The guys are direct and honest (which will save you time and hassle, trust... no one here is trying to fleece you, and they are definitely more qualified to work on your bike than, say, you... or me...) I love their style, I love their gear.... I even like the location. OK, I'm gushing, I'll stop. (Full disclosure: not a gargantuan selection of new bikes... but that's not what they advertise, either. What they do have is great stuff. And they will lead you to the right bike, so like I said... trust!)

Yelp
I recently purchased a bike and had a wonderful experience especially as I was making an out of town purchase (arranged my own shipping). I had the pleasure of working with Bob who is very knowledgeable and guided me to find a bike to my exact requirements. I was very impressed by their detail towards customer service and especially communication. These guys go way beyond the extra mile even on something simple as checking to see if there is a rack mount on a fork. Not only did they confirm but was happy to send a picture when requested. This is first class service and some of the best prices around!! Also, I was very impressed with their selection of bikes but also their ability to get bikes in stock quickly. I am a proud owner of a 2014 Norco Threshold A1, which other stores are still struggling to get one in.

Robby H.

Yelp
I've had nothing but wonderful experiences at Iron City Bikes. I am relatively new to cycling, and the guys entertained all my questions, adjusted my bike to improve my positioning, performed basic maintenance, and recommended entry level, but quality, equipment for my upcoming triathlon FOR NO COST. I was there easily for 30 minutes during my first visit, and they got a customer in me for as long as I live in Pittsburgh. I've been back multiple times to make purchases, and the service remains high quality. You never feel rushed or that you are inconveniencing them in any way. I will be taking my bike in for a tune-up soon and will provide a follow up review after I do.

C M.

Yelp
These guys are great. My wife and I recently flew to Pittsburg from TX to bike the GAP and C&O Canal. We had to ship our bikes and Iron City was super easy - we just called ahead to give them a heads up and they charged an extremely reasonable price to unpack and assemble our bikes, saving us the trouble of doing it ourselves. In addition to their great service the staff was incredibly helpful in giving us tips and pointers along the trail like places to check out and things to watch out for. If you're traveling to Pittsburgh for this kind of trip or just looking for a good neighborhood bike shop look no further!
google avatar

Leo M.

Yelp
Inexpensive bike repair in the heart of Oakland. I am definitely grateful for the guys over at Iron City. Since Kraynick's and Free Ride are sort of on opposite ends of town, this is convenient for students and others in this part of town.
google avatar

Jon W.

Yelp
I felt overwhelmed trying to shop for a bike. Bob and his staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and even helped me enjoy the process. He even threw in an awesome beer cozy with a picture of his dog on it. Great experience, great staff, awesome dog.

Yelp
Their customer service was above and beyond! Top notch. I fell off my bike and busted my seat. They gave me a great deal ($10) on a brand-new seat (ones that others left behind when buying bikes), ordered me some fenders online (because the in-store ones were out of my price range), called me when the fenders came in, put the fenders on and tuned up my bike free of charge (probably 1 hr's worth of service -- free of charge), and helped me figure out my bike light battery issue. This is so much than I could have ever expected. Brought them a little thank you/goodie bag because these two guys were so incredibly kind. Just...WOW. WOW. WOW. :)

Felicia M.

Yelp
I was just gifted a Peloton bike and needed different pedals / toe clips because I didn't have the Peloton bike shoes, and I wanted to start using it right away. The person I worked with at Iron City Bikes was so incredibly helpful. I called ahead and he let me know to take a few photos before coming by, and after he looked at the bike pedals he knew exactly what I needed. I actually needed a few different parts to build the toe clips, and the employee unpackaged everything and built them for me right in the store! I was so pleasantly surprised that he offered to do this and it was SO helpful - I would have been trying to figure out how to put it all together forever. Then, he gave me a bike wrench to take home and borrow to attach the toe clips to my bike! I don't think I've ever had a more helpful experience at any store ever. They really went above and beyond to help me, and didn't try to sell me any product / service I didn't need. I definitely recommend Iron City Bikes to anyone.

Greg C.

Yelp
12 days for a tune-up, no communication from shop, just a lot of "oopsies" on their part. I didn't really complain, just know I'll be trying out some other shops that have shown better sense of urgency, and communicated better.

Yelp
So, I'm a bike rider and commute to and back from work everyday- except not it the recent awful weather (damn this winter!). I have been going to these guys for repairs for years after having some bad experiences with a couple of other places in the East End (I may write some not-so-good reviews for them soon). Important to note: I am a biker, but I am not apart of the biker subculture. I don't know everything there is to know about bikes and bike repairs, and I absolutely HATE the pretentiousness of some of the people who work at other bike stores. It makes me not want to take my bike in when it needs repaired because I feel like an idiot. However, I tried these guys 3 or 4 years ago, and they have been amazing to me. There are no hangups about lack bike or part aptitude, and I don't feel guilty about walking in and saying, "It won't work" :) The guys here have always been super helpful, articulate and careful not to offend my (obviously) sensitive self. The repairs have always been relatively cheap and I have never felt ripped off. Furthermore, I just purchased a used road bike after moving back into the country, and I took it straight to them. They altered the brake lines a bit, pumped up the tires, gave me an oral diagnostic, and didn't charge me a dime. I told them that in the future I would never take the bike anywhere else for repairs, and that I would tell all of my friends to give them their business. With this review I'm keeping up my end of the bargain. Thanks Iron City!
google avatar

Sid G.

Yelp
I've taken my bike in to Iron City for various issues over the years and I've always left totally satisfied with how quick and efficient they've been. I originally started going there because it was just the most convenient place for me to go from school and was a little wary at first since its a specialty bike shop and I didn't really have a sophisticated bike- just something to get around with. I always found the guys there very honest and helpful though and they provide good advice as well. I got my brakes replaced here and they also fixed some issues I was having with my derailleur at the same time and I didn't have to get it fixed separately. I would highly recommend the shop for whatever servicing you might need.

Yelp
There are many good bike shops in Pittsburgh--especially in the East End--and i have used several of them and have had positive experiences, but Iron City Bikes (Lawrenceville) is a cut above. I took a bike in for a tuneup and a once-over the other day before leaving on a long road trip, and when i walked in no fewer than 4 guys were on the spot to help and to offer comments. Their overnight turnaround was impressive, especially since another shop in the area had my beater bike for 2 weeks before calling to say it was ready! And even though i'm a woman well past the age where you'd find me racing at the Washington Boulevard Oval, the staff were respectful and never patronizing. ICB is now my go-to shop.

Bill C.

Yelp
i try not to post bad reviews, but i was just turned away without remorse, and left to buy online. i do know that i wont take my new bike ti iron city bikes for repair.

Lauren S.

Yelp
ICB not only does a great job of tuning my racing bike but helped me to find a sturdy hybrid to mount a child seat on so I could ride with my young son. They took the time to look at and install our hand-me-down seat, order wider bars for my wide shoulders, and the bike we went with was a great price too. I would go nowhere but Iron City for bikes in Pgh.

jamie g.

Yelp
This place is great. I stopped by yesterday because my gears were acting up. The guy working took a good 30+ minutes to diagnose the problem, try out a couple solutions, and eventually fixed the issue - all while I waited - and only charged me for the new part! I definitely will be back!
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
Awesome! Dudes are super nice and they helped me figure out what I wanted (since I really needed help deciding). Had my bike ordered and all the accessories put on for me when I came in to pick it up! Thanks Bob!

Mattie W.

Yelp
I know virtually nothing about bikes so when I came in to get mine fixed I was a little nervous as to how the customer service would pan out. The moment I stepped in I was greeted by their adorable pup and two friendly guys with beards. I explained my situation and they took care of me completely! I got a new seat and a lock - they installed and fitted both, showed me how to use them, pumped air in my tires, and gave me advice on how NOT to ride a bike in the city. I was surprised at how great of an experience I had and couldn't wait to write a review. The incentive of a free one of their t-shirts helped too :) long story short - if you need a place to fix your bike, come to these guys; they're great!

Yelp
This place rocks just moved here and very informants helped me find some local trails

Drew T.

Yelp
Great shop. I have been going to this shop for years and they have always been extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The turnarounds are great and the service is always friendly. They have helped me with everything from purchasing small accessories and tune-ups to helping me spec out and build a custom bicycle. There is a reason I've been going here for years and will continue to!

John S.

Yelp
I really really wanted to like this place! My wife needed her bike tuned up. Nothing serious - her bike was sitting in the garage all winter and she wanted to make sure it was riding ready. They didn't give her an estimate on when it'd be ready so after a week I finally called them. The person who answered didn't seem to know where my wife's bike was. Eventually he found it and told me they haven't looked at it yet. He said he could have it ready "later today...well..maybe tomorrow". Two hours later he called her and let her know it was ready. Anotherwords the bike sat there for a week and no one even touched it. When my wife picked the bike up, the back tire was completely flat. I told me wife I'd run back in the store to have them blow it up, but she was so fed up with the place she vowed to never go back in. During all of this I saw a bike hanging in the store I really liked. I asked the guy working if I could take a test ride. He got it down but the rear tire was flat. He took it in the back to fix it and 20 minutes past. He finally came out to let me know he accidentally blew the tire and it would take longer. There were three employees working when I went in and they all seemed to be just hanging out talking. Wouldn't you think they'd walk around from time to time and make sure everything was ready to sell?

Yelp
These guys are great! I stop by every now and then to use their pump to pump up my tires, and occasionally for repairs/tune-ups and to buy bike accessories. They're super-knowledgeable about bikes and friendly without being condescending, which I greatly appreciate (I ride a Diamondback Topanga that I bought from Craigslist shortly after moving to PGH). For the purchases I've made, I feel they're reasonably priced, esp. compared to some of the other bike shops around town. My only minor complaint is that they can be a bit scatterbrained and/or inattentive at times, but I'll give them a pass, since they're so helpful most of the time. Also, when I had my bike repaired a few months ago, they were a couple days later than they said they'd be--but they've performed other repairs that were ready within a matter of hours. I'd highly recommend this place for all of your cycling needs, regardless of how serious--or not--you are about the hobby!

Ashley S.

Yelp
I wanted a bike for commuting to school and had no idea what to get. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend them!

Lisa T.

Yelp
I feel so compelled to leave a review. I am so happy with the services I received for my bike. I brought it in on a Saturday, was told midweek and was called on Tuesday to say it was done. The estimate they gave was what it ended up costing. My gears were skipping and chirping, my rear brake was in need of replacement and I felt the 'consultation' was spot on and I even learned something. I picked up my bike and there were parts of my bike that hadn't been that shiny since it was new. In fact, my son asked me if they painted my bike, which they didn't, but they did clean it up. I strongly recommend their services.

M. C.

Yelp
I have had great experiences with the customer service and the quality of the products at Iron City Bikes every time I was there. The staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable-- I have always been greeted right away and they have always been the best when it comes to fixing my bike needs. I highly recommend using this store for all your bike needs!
