This was our first time to the Iron Fish Distillery, despite it being a rainy August day in the 60’s this place was great. I ordered a whiskey flight to try the different offerings and was pleasantly impressed vs some other Michigan distilleries that’s we’ve tried over the years. We ordered a margarita pizza that came out delicious and was enough to split between two people with a cocktail or flight. On the way out we checked out the bottle shop and were able to taste a few awesome bottles that aren’t in shops locally to us. At the end of the day I ended up buying the Mad Angler B&B 100 proof. Cheers and definitely make a stop here if you’re looking for a great food and drink experience.

Google
Very neat place. Staff was very friendly and super knowledgeable, highly recommend! EDIT: ended up coming back a couple months later, and the staff was just as friendly and helpful. Really loved the wood fired pizza and the rotating slush. This will be a stop every vacation moving forward.

Just a quick super fun visit to Iron Fish Distillery in Thompsonville - so worth the trip! Amazing location tucked off the beaten path offers quiet country setting but has wonderful food & drink options as well as indoor & outdoor seating. As Bourbon lovers we are a fan of your 6 yr batch (just released) and the 1887 Old Fashioned is a favorite! Also, for something different, we enjoy your syrup - taking a "shot" of that is always on our list. Lastly, being a member has it's perks! ;) Great staff too!

We had an amazing double date night with friends at Iron Fish Distillery. We did the tour. 10 out of 10 recommend, even if you’re not a big whiskey drinker. Our guide was so funny and we learned so much about the farm and history. It really puts the product into perspective. We also learned about how they strive to give back to the community and also try to be as resourceful as possible with limiting waste and finding ways to repurpose the byproducts from the distillery. The small store where you can buy merchandise and products is right outside of the restaurant. We stayed for dinner and drinks and thoroughly enjoyed every bite (and sip!). The menu was diverse, and the cocktails were fantastic. We got the Paloma. Our friend got the old-fashioned, which had a fish branded in the ice cube! Those small touches of really brought it all together as an experience. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We finished with the maple bourbon ice cream. They have a phenomenal outdoor space which is open year-round. We cannot wait to go back with more friends. This is the biggest hidden gem in the area. 100% worth the trip when you’re visiting Traverse City.

We stopped in on a whim on a sunny Sunday during the off-season for their Sunday brunch. We enjoyed every bit of our visit! We ordered the quiche Lorraine with breakfast potatoes (both amazing, and the potatoes were seasoned to perfection), the yogurt parfait (a light & delicious serving), and the godfather old fashioned. Both our waiter and those working in the tasting area/merch shop were polite, helpful, and fun! We are looking forward to returning sometime for a distillery tour and to try the lunch/dinner menu.

Google
Had an absolutely WONDERFUL time! Got a fabulous tasting with Taryn who explained all of the different spirits & came home with a big assortment of things. Wish we lived closer because of all of the fun events they have!

Google
Really great atmosphere and food was all-around delicious. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
We always make an effort to stop here when we are in the area! An absolute charm of a place. Not only are the drinks delicious, but the atmosphere is relaxing and inviting with amazing staff! I highly recommend stopping here and having a drink or a tasting! The food is also delicious, especially the wood fired pizza.

Yelp
This distillery is a little off the beaten path but worth the visit. It is a beautiful location and we really enjoyed their cocktails. They have food here as well but we didn't try any. Everything we saw on others tables looked very fresh and good. We will be back.

Yelp
Not an easy place to just swing by, but the trip is worth it to go and spend evening. The food is excellent with some flare. The seasonal mixed drinks are fun and go down smooth. The people are fun and create a great hang. They have games and live entertainment during different times during the year. This does not even consider the Distillary tours and great juice they sell. Great place to check out!

Yelp
And absolutely beautiful Distillery and tasting room/restaurant. I had an old fashioned as well as a rotating cocktail that was warm. Also got an amazing wood fire pizza. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Yelp
What a beautiful little spot in the middle of farmland! The ambiance was great with live music and lots of seating options. The grounds and buildings are beautiful. We had limited time so we did a quick free tasting and then ordered cocktails. The cocktails (3 of them) took nearly 30 minutes, so we felt pretty rushed to finish them. If you come, make sure you have plenty of time and if you want an alcoholic drink you better like liquor because that's all they have. Their food menu looks great so I'd love to try that next time I'm here.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Iron Fish while in the Thompsonville area, and decided to pop by for a quick cocktail and tasting. I met the owner Richard and was immediately drawn in. He was proud of his establishment and joyfully shared his knowledge of the land and craft spirits. The food and service were also a delight. I tried a coffee-based whiskey drink that was super tasty and had a pizza that was equally terrific. If you're in the area, give Iron Fish a try. It's 1000% worth the drive. Relax outside or sit inside their restaurant with all the right vibes. You won't be sorry.

Mario Q.

Yelp
We love Iron Fish. Always a stop for us on our way up north. They have top notch wood fired pizza which is what we usually get and got there today. The whole family loves them. The cocktails are great. I had the toasted godfather and my wife had the Wily E Coyote. Both were very enjoyable. The service was fast. We ate inside but they have outdoor igloos if you're interested. In the summer we always eat outside. And you can grab a few free tastings and a bottle in the tasting silo on your way out. It's a little of the beaten path but worth the excursion!

Yelp
We reserved one of the tents and WOW such a neat experience- it's actually very spacious (we were 4 adults 1 kid and a baby in a car seat). Drinks and food were awesome (pizza was great), Bernie was our server and he was absolutely fantastic. He went above and beyond to make it a lovely experience all around, we will definitely be back and recommend it.

JoJo M.

Yelp
Food was incredible. We had the barbecue plate which serves 2, and the spin dip and fresh, warm pita chips. All was amazing. Such a cool place tucked away and so very close to Crystal Mountain. Wood fired pizza looks amazing! We will try it next time!
google avatar

Katelyn S.

Yelp
Service was great, Bernie was very attentive and made sure we had a great experience. We ordered the mojito, 1887 old fashioned, beans and bourbon and a Bloody Mary with horseradish vodka. All of the drinks were amazing, I really enjoyed the beans and bourbon it tasted very similar to an espresso martini. The pizza was amazing, I highly recommend the sassage.

Yelp
Very unique place . We had three complimentary shots to try . Northwoods soda , the best . Ice cream to finish . Outside seating . Good food
google avatar

Shawn H.

Yelp
Nice place off the beaten path. 20+ minutes for a drink after a reminder. Was excepting it well before the food was ready. Service was poor at best.
google avatar

Heather W.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing cocktails and delicious food, especially the pizzas! Service very slow.

Sally B.

Yelp
Worth the trip to experience this distillery and restaurant! Don't let the dirt road deter you. Ironfish has a great setting in the country. The restaurant, tastings, merchandise areas are all top notch. Bernie and staff were all very knowledgeable about products and restaurant offerings. Wood fired pizzas are unique and delicious as are the drinks. Looking forward to our next visit !
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
Pretty impeccable. Order at the bar, tons of outdoor seating, food was DELICIOUS (check out the goat cheese dip, gluten free pizza, and cherry whiskey-Rita). Our large group loved the food and ambiance, and it's even dog-friendly!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Our family visited Iron Fish last weekend. This is hidden gem! We enjoyed wood fire pizzas and delicious drinks. The toasted godfather old fashioned and salted maple old fashioned were our favorites. The staff was helpful and very knowledgeable, especially Bernie who gave us a tour. 10/10 recommend!
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Very unwelcoming experience here unfortunately! BF and I have been excited to come here for a long time...and we were treated as if we were a burden. The waitress seemed miserable and was not friendly at all. Giving 2 stars because the drinks were good! Really wanted to love this place but won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a happy find - a little sad because they ran out of bacon spinach dip but drinks made up for it. Definitely a good vibe feeling and to top it off - it's dog friendly. There's multiple seating options inside and out but please note if there's only two people at the picnic table then there's a high possibility you might be paired with another couple. There's plenty of room. Side note - they had a tasting room; sizes vary when purchasing bottles. Happy Eating!!!

Kate P.

Yelp
We arrived just before the rush so we got our table quickly. Two of us ordered pizzas and two ordered sandwiches. The sandwiches came out about 15 minutes before the pizzas did, which was inconvenient and they tasted like they had been sitting for a bit, not hot and the buns were hard and dry. The pizzas were okay, the crust was delicious but there wasn't enough cheese or toppings. The hot honey chicken sandwich wasn't good. It was a fried chicken cutlet with a drizzle of honey and a couple pickle chips. Maybe if the bun wasn't stale it would've been okay....I asked for a side of mayo which helped. The brisket sandwich was meh.... The meat had a smokey flavor but like everything else it was missing something. This could be a great place but they need to pay attention more to detail.

M G.

Yelp
Terrific stop for an afternoon. I went in for a drink and small app. And ended up staying for a few drinks and full meal! Everything was delicious. Definitely will be back.

Yelp
Top Shelf location. Top Shelf Venue. Top Shelf pizza. Top Shelf service. This is a must-see for a relaxing environment that will transform into entertaining vibe, I am sure. The red oak fired pizza is the best! Choose your own flavor-blast! The gravel road is well-groomed for smooth road trip. We can't wait to visit the Iron Fish Distiller again!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing space and Great pizza. However, we have 2 terrible experiences with the service, long wait to seat to order.
google avatar

Kelly P.

Yelp
This place is so beautiful! Great outdoor seating that's covered from the sun, live music and free bourbon tasting! I bought a bottle of the most amazing maple syrup and went back the next day to get another before heading home to Metro Detroit because I knew I'd regret only getting one!!
google avatar

Sara Annela T.

Yelp
Dog-friendly, bourbon-loving, cozy Michigan decor, entertaining staff and yummy menu! Not much else to explain. It's located down a dirt road in the boonies of northwest Michigan, a few minutes behind Crystal Mountain Ski & Spa Resort. Picturesque country scenery and they definitely designed Iron Fish just as you would imagine it. We were able to hit this place right when they opened (ok actually 15 minutes before but super accommodating while we waited) so the crowds weren't there but word on the street is that this place is hoppin' during the peak drinking times. Barb was fantastic during our tasting and kept the conversation informative yet genuine. Don't get salesy on me because I will walkout. Certainly will be back again soon!
google avatar

Jack K.

Yelp
My friends and I had an amazing experience at Iron Fish reserving on of the teepees after a day of skiing at Crystal. You have to make a reservation in advance, and definitely plan to dress warm, but they do a great job all around. This was my first time there, so this was my only experience, but I wouldn't have it any other way. We were guided to our teepee and given menus - they have a ton of interesting cocktails to choose from. We had six people with us and all fit very comfortably in the teepee. There is a heater, but it was in the teens, so on the side without a heater it was definitely a bit chilly. I highly recommend a whiskey flight as well as the hot cocoa drink. The pizzas were awesome. The service was impressive, especially since they had to bring everything through a tiny opening in the teepee. We all bought bottles of whiskey after and will definitely be back.

Yelp
Busy place but lots of yard games to occupy your time. The free tastings are a nice touch. Tip the tender
google avatar

Yelp
This is our go to for craft cocktails. They have amazing story of how the business started and where it is now. I must stop by if you're in the area.

Martha S.

Yelp
Stopped on our way to Traverse City for a cocktail and pizza. Had to wait a bit for seating as no one was around and it was not busy for a late afternoon stop. Seated but then waited a bit longer before anyone took drink or food orders. I finally asked a waitress cleaning tables all around us if she knew who our waiter w. And took our order and was very apologetic. Cocktails ( 2 gin and tonics) were refreshing. Then ordered a saasage pizza. Pizza was delicious and perfect size for our party of 2. Sauce or sausage had a nice spice to it and the crust was chewy and wonderful! Beautiful day for this outside venue. We will be back!

Yelp
Came her first the first time, and enjoyed several good cocktails. To get to the place you take this dirt road to a wide open spot with many outdoor tables and the distillery, small gift shop, and building with a kitchen, bar, and a few tables. It's so scenic, and there was a heated outdoor tent to accommodate the cool October days. We got a table in the heated tent. The menu had several classic cocktails and seasonal ones with a lean toward old fashions. The first one I ordered was a spot suit old fashioned - w/gin (rosemary syrup, cherry, bitters, and lemon peel). It was different and interesting. My husband and and I preferred the more traditional cocktails with a twist---one with maple and sea salt and their classic. They have a small menu, but we didn't order any food.I can imagine this place is a magnet during the summer high season as it was fairly busy for a late afternoon Friday in mid-October. Would go here again, and good place to go with friends too.

Yelp
Worth the drive! Awesome environment, great food and beverages and the kind servers. Great destination!

Cheryl D.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The grains for their spirits are all either grown on the farm or locally sourced. I love their woodland gin. Their drinks are very creative and tasty and change with the seasons. Highly recommend the wood-fired pizzas! Madz is the best bartender around

Darin V.

Yelp
Wlaked in - seated at bar by unfriendly hostess - sat at the bar for over 25 minutes - 2 bar tenders plus the hostess who sat us AND other staff - no acknowledgment of our presence. A group of 4 came in and sat at the bar next to us - were givin waters and asked for their order before they were even all seated. Bar tender brought their drinks and I had said to the patron who sat next to me that we had been there for over 25 mins and had zero contact with anyone working there said something to the bar tender - he came to me and I said that we have been here for over 25 mins - he didn't apologize - just asked for our orders. Drinks were great - got another round. Waited for bill - no drinks for another 15 mins - no acknowledgement - no inquiry from staff. Group of 4 asks for check - i say - "yes, us too please!" Tender brings check to group of 4 - says nothing to us. Wait another 5 to 10 mins - the other bar tender says - "are you guys waiting for your check?" Pretty awful experience. We live in town - i will likely not go there again and won't be recommending it. No apology - no comp - no nothing. The lack of customer care on every employer there says management doesn't care. Unacceptable - especially when paying 65 bucks for 4 drinks.

Yelp
From the hostess, staff and bartender our experience was great! We planned to attend the music artist on Sunday and he was great too! Now let me say it's a must to order a Bloody Mary, the BEST I've ever had and I've had many! No doubt it's a secret recipe. We ordered a buffalo cauliflower dip for an appetizer (delicious), flavorful and not salty. Also a nice shot of Maple Bourbon to close the evening! Will return in a heart beat!
google avatar

Yelp
This place it awesome. It is in the middle of nowhere and will make you question where you are going... but keep going because it's awesome. This place is pet friendly (keep your dog on a leash). Limited menu but the pizza is good and there is a hamburger food truck. Lots of Iron Fish liquor available; good selection of whiskey, vodka and gin. There was a DJ while we were there. Long wait for a table so plan accordingly. Well worth the drive. I HIGHLY recommend.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
What a fantastic place! Came on a Sunday shortly after they opened. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to a party of one! I have to thank Bernie for being so fantastic! They have a great selection of cocktails, pizzas, appetizers, sandwiches and desserts. I started with a Bloody Mary. They give you a selection of flavors, and I chose the basil jalapeño Bloody Mary. Flavors were nice and fresh. I didn't find it overly spicy, and there was a tad too much basil. I think I'll go with the horseradish next time! I ordered the whitefish pate as my appetizer. It was delicious! I loved the crackers and green apples that came with it. I also had the the rhubarb old fashioned. Amazing! They have a little shop where you can buy all their spirits. I ended up buying a bottle of their bourbon barreled gin and the raspberry liquor. I'm looking forward to some good cocktails at home. They have plenty of spaces with picnic tables and patio chairs as well. They have cornhole and other games. It appears they have plenty of live music! And if you don't drink, they have a very nice selection of craft mocktails! I highly recommend and can't wait to visit, again!
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
We drove all the way from Chicago for a girls trip. We got two Margarita pizzas and two drinks! I can honestly say that it was worth the drive. I also loved the store!
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Loved our visit here! We had horseradish infused Bloody Marys. And they come with a skewer with an olive, piece of cheese, salami and a pickled cherry pepper, just wonderful! Their whiskey/bourbon flight is very good too. The service was excellent. They also have a "speak easy" room upstairs that looks like a comfy spot to have a group event. We bought a bottle of the rye whiskey at their nice shop outside of the bar/restaurant distillery. It is a destination so, be prepared to map its location as it is out in the countryside off of a dirt road.

Michael P B.

Yelp
Worst customer service I've experienced. Came here a week ago and had the server bring our pizza out without plates. Asked for plates and after 15 min I went in and got my own. Went back tonight to give it another shot, we were seated by hosted with no menus and after 25 min of no one ever coming to wait on us we got up and walked out without ever seeing a menu. When we stood to walk out other customers said they had been there 2 hours with no food yet! 1.5 hours in total wasted. Place is trash!!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Such a cool place with a beautiful merchandise "hut". I've only been here twice, last night to re-buy a hat I bought and lost in May. Staff is the epitome of northern Michigan hospitality. Fun, accommodating and authentic, I love this place. The swag is top notch and the bourbon is delicious (free tastings!). Have only eaten once, back in May (the cheesy olive bread isn't always on the menu but that's what we had and it was amazing!) Proud of this place, very cool.

Kathryn S.

Yelp
Amazing place with a great vibe! So pretty! The pizza and spinach dip were delicious. They have complimentary tastings and awesome cocktails.
google avatar

Adna C.

Yelp
Super cute spot. We had one of the tents booked - they do a great job of keeping them super warm. Our group of 6 sat comfortably inside. Food is just okay. I wanted to try the White Chicken Chili but they were out. I am always happy for an excuse to have Wood Fired Pizza so that was an easy swap - however my Spinach Inquisition was personally disappointing for a pizza. Tasted more like a veggie foccacia and was yummy in that sense but not what I was hoping for. Customer service is absolutely fantastic!! Fun experience overall.
google avatar

Jesse N.

Yelp
The drinks are very good. We tried the buffalo chili as a dip (with chips on the side). It was all very good. The servers are good and the facility is beautiful! Very nice place to have drinks and a bite to eat. Come visit this place it is a jewel!

Jay W.

Yelp
My first time visiting the place and it was phenomenal! The staff were the main reasons why I'd come back. They're so nice and welcoming as well as professional!! My serves Clay was very energetic and friendly, while doing his job really well. He makes me want to come back and have him as a server every time! The food was excellent. I love pizza and barbecue so their Betsie River BBQ pizza was the perfect choice for me. It was cooked very well and so fresh I was in love with it! Their cook was also very nice, making sure I had plates and napkins without even asking! It was such an amazing experience, I'd 10/10 recommend it anytime!

Yelp
Amazing award winning Vodka, Gin, bourbons and rum made on the premises. Decent selection of apps, wood fired pizza and sandwiches. Outdoor seating and an indoor gift shop. Off the beaten track only a few miles from Crystal Mountain. Enjoyed our visit here with family over the Fourth of July vacation.
google avatar

Greg D.

Yelp
Unique, fresh, self-sustaining, hip, adaptive, forward thinking, clever, off the beaten path, oh and the food and drinks are amazing!!
google avatar

Lee A.

Yelp
This place is worth a special trip. We were staying close by and stopped for delicious cocktails and really good pizza (the horseradish Bloody Mary is to die for. A perfect spot for a sunset drink.
google avatar

Yelp
I have wanted to try Iron Fish for a while but am always in town during the days they were closed. Finally, I had an opportunity to visit, and I was not disappointed. The atmosphere with the outdoor seating, live music, and view of the fields where the magic happens is incredible. Although they were not serving pizza the day we visited, the food truck was outstanding, and the appetizers were also incredible...and the drinks...well, of course, they were perfectly mixed and presented. I can't say enough about the team members as each one of them was super nice and accommodating. It was evident they all love what they do and were willing to provide great detail about their product. This is a must stop!

Yelp
I don't know where to begin. This distillery is one of my favorite places. I came here in the winter time and I couldn't believe how awesome this place was set up. People were pulling up on their snowmobiles, and i love riding snowmobiles. I secretly wished i was on my sled too! There were teepees set up outside and various areas to sit around a bonfire. This distillery is quite large. I enjoyed looking over the menu and choosing a delicious drink. I ended up buying a few gifts from the shop and purchasing a special bottle of gin. One thing that stood out the most to me, the kindest staff! Being winter time, it was quite chilly, the care and attention to patrons was impressive. The staff walked around making sure everyone was okay and even handing out blankets. I can't wait to make another trip to Ironfish and introduce this place to some of my friends.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
Went here after hiking. My husband had the prime rib dip which was delicious and I had the spinach salad. We had two cocktails. The Old Fashion was a bit strong but I enjoyed the lemonade Vodka with Blueberries. Food was slow to come out but that may have been due to staffing. Also, you had to close out your tab after each transaction. The staff indicated that they hoped to have different software in the future. Absolutely beautiful location!! Had games and even Yoga in the barn while we were there
