Anyone who has been to Lopez Island knows that I do not need to emphasize the laid back, comfortable, communal vibe that Isabel's projects. For me, I love it because I always feel like a true member of the community, even as a visitor.
The coffee is really good, and the barista that we had even better. She pulled a perfect doppio and speaks the coffee language. The conversation we had with her regarding the subtle roast profile was professional, yet informal. Aside from the coffee being great, the day we visited, we had a selection of locally baked muffins. If you get the opportunity to have one - do it!
The establishment itself is clean, has a cute mismatch of tables/chairs, and random coffee mugs and plates (I like this style). The refills on drip coffee is at no cost. And, even if the local baked goods are not available, they do have a nice selection of packaged baked goods (bagels/cream cheese, etc.) - there is no full service food here. The establishment is fairly small, so our of courtesy, if you are coming with a large group (more than six), consider getting your goods to go and sitting out on the lawn across the street. There is a lovely porch with a few seats, though it can get crowded if the line gets long as the line will wrap out onto the porch.
The only reason I do not give this place five stars is really somewhat arbitrary, but it is a pet-peeve of mine.....if you are going to have anti-Starbuck's campaigns in your establishment, please do not serve Starbuck's products (FYI - the Tazo teas you serve is a division of the Starbuck's corporation).
