We came here for a weekend during the off-season, right before Christmas. I love going to tourist destinations in the off-season. Rates are cheaper, you don't have to deal with the same traffic and congestion, and can really appreciate the landscape. We stayed in the Capt. William Weeks room, one of the larger rooms, which is in the carriage house because my then-fiance, now husband is a sea captain and can't resist choosing any room with "Captain" in the name. It's a lovely, spacious room. I particularly liked the touch of a keurig machine in the hallway, which let me drink cup after cup of tea without having to leave the carriage house. The bedding was very comfortable. I often find pillows too flat and bedding too suffocating at hotels and inns, but not here.
Don and Kathy are great innkeepers and very personable. The breakfasts are delicious. Both mornings we were served a fruit course, a scone or muffin, and a main breakfast dish. I particularly liked the cranberry scone and vanilla bread pudding. The two very sweet dogs do not enter guest areas but will wag and smile from the kitchen (and wiggle with excitement if you come to them to offer pets).
I did learn one tip from Don: If you book with a bed and breakfast or inn, do not book through one of the major sites such as travelocity or hotels.com. These ties take a cut of about 30% and usually offer the same rates as going directly through the innkeepers. If you do see a special offered through one of these sites, I bet the inn will offer you the same (or a better) rate if you call them up and ask.
