Isla At The Standard Review - Kings Cross - London - The Infatuation

"We want whatever the person who designed Isla at the Standard is on. There are more colours and design flourishes in this room than a Michael Craig-Martin acid trip, and, somehow, it kind of works. Sadly the same can’t be said for the food. The all-day menu ranges from the perfectly decent duck rillettes, to the completely bizarre half-broccoli, steamed, without seasoning, and looking very stupid with a dollop of yoghurt on top. As for the toasted sourdough pudding. No thank you. What you should know is that nothing here is slap you in the face offensive, but nor is it particularly good. And average isn’t worth a trip." - Jake Missing

I came here for dinner last night and was extremely disappointed. I ordered the Panzanella tomato salad, olives & croutons with chicken and was shocked when it arrived as I was essentially served a bowl of tomatoes with unseasoned chicken breast on side (not even salt or pepper). The main cost £23 on its own and I’m really not sure how that can be justified for something so lacking in flavour, presentation and skill. The staff, whilst friendly approached our table three times whilst we still had food on our plates and were clearly still eating, to ask if we were done. They later then hovered around our table for several minutes whilst we were looking at desserts before walking off, which felt most uncomfortable. I will add we were there for 45 minutes in total, so it is not like we had out stayed our welcome. I think next time I want food with such lack of finesse such as what was severed, I will just go to a McDonald’s, it would probably have more flavour.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a relaxed feel. The food is good, we especially enjoyed the current Ixta menu, but some of the plates including the mussels were disappointing, and the chips were cold when they arrived. The service was incredibly slow and often felt like we had been forgotten. One of my friends has to ask four times for ketchup to have with her chips before it came to the table.

Have been a fan of Ixta’s work for years and was super excited to taste this menu. I won’t hold anything against her as the flavours were definitely there, however there were slight issues with dishes coming out cold or overdone. Best dish was the corn pamonha in my opinion

Oh no - some of these reviews are very unfair. We had a really good time, tasty food, excellent friendly service in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It exceeded our expectations. Dog friendly too !

Came for the Ixta Belfridge pop up and was sadly underwhelmed The drinks were overpriced and the glass half full, which for a £17.50 cocktail I think is unacceptable The food came out tepid and didn't seem very fresh The plantain starter needs way more sauce than it comes with. For a whole bowl of plantain chips, a tablespoon of sauce isn't really sufficient For the star of the show having heard so much about the prawn lasagne, we were quite disappointed that it didn't seem fresh and crispy, but rather reheated and the prawns almost rubbery and for £25 the portion size is questionable Similar with the crisped rice aubergine, it was nice but again felt reheated Overall the ambience was nice, the actual hotel and restaurant was cool but came away feeling disappointed by the hype and £160 out of pocket

Crab, with heaps of crunchy, gelatinous seaweed and Canarian arrugadas potatoes has a saltiness I initially read as marine salinity. It works brilliantly with my savoury ‘Breakfast Quebranta’ fino and pisco cocktail. The further I get into the menu, however, the more relentlessly intense I find the house style.

I had lunch a couple of times and food was very nice! They have a beautiful space, but most importantly the service - Benito was incredible, explained all so well, gave the best service and made me feel like home :)

I dined at the restaurant inside The Standard and found the ambiance to be delightful. The service was not attentive at all from the moment I was waiting for get the table, seated until I received my food. Despite not being crowded, the overall experience fell short, maybe there lack of staff. The food lacked creativity, with repetitive ingredients across different dishes. The taste was underwhelming, particularly the kind of wierd rice dish. While it might be a suitable spot for drinks and snacks, the main food offerings left much to be desired in terms of flavor and quality cook. Way more to improve. * the drinks are good by the way.
