Isla Surf School

Super easy booking online. Got to the public parking at 8:45am to get a spot. Great to have bathrooms and shower there. Shane the owner had the board rental there on the beach. Super nice guy. He and his team were giving a kids camp and private lessons throughout the day and was a real nice vibe. Also an easy 1 block walk to lunch at Loggerheads and we finished up at 1pm. Couldn’t ask for anything better. Just show up on the beach and have fun!

Excellent experience with fun surf coach!!! Sam taught us the basics while on land. As a veteran teacher myself, I was very impressed with his teaching techniques and thorough focus on the foundations of what we were about to experience. Both of my children were able to stand up on the very first wave he pushed them into and ride it almost to the sand!! By halfway into the lesson, my son was catching all the waves by himself. My husband, an experienced surfer from California, even enjoyed the lesson. My children had a great time and one of their favorite memories of Sam will be that while they would wait for a good set, Sam would dig into the sand with his toes and find fun creatures for them to look at like hermit crabs, sand dollars, and a whelk (beautiful spiral shell like a conch.) Matt was another professional surfer who was shadowing our instructor Sam during our lesson. I think he will also become a great instructor, too, because my kids liked his help and his patience.

My daughter and a friend from out of town had a lesson over Labor Day weekend. The instructor was awesome and the girls loved it so much we rented boards for the day after the lesson. My daughter was hesitant about going because she took a lesson before with another company and hated it. The instructor at Isla Surf made such an impact that the girls loved it and now my daughter wants to go back. Thank you so much for teaching them and having such patience.

Fantastic experience. It was my first time surfing and my instructor (one on one lesson) was super patient and helpful. He worked super hard to get me in the right place to catch some good waves without getting worn out. I learned a lot about what to look for and how to negotiate rough surf. Absolutely recommend for anyone who wants to try surfing.

The people were great and it was easy to set-up and get going. Our instructor Andrew was awesome. He made it easy to understand what was needed to ride waves and was also great to chat with. We highly recommend booking lessons and plan to return for more.

A must add to any trip to the Charleston area! This was so much fun, my partner and I made a day trip out of Folly Island and started with the surf lesson and it was so much fun! Super easy to book and find on the beach. The instructor we had (John) was great, patient and encouraging the entire time!

Our 4 kids: ages 11-18 took a surf lesson with Isla Surf School. They loved it! Andrew was wonderful with them and I was amazed how quickly they all learned. We thought they made great progress with just 1 lesson! Andrew was very patient with them and made it a fun experience! Each of the kids received great individualized instruction during the 90 minute lesson. Thank you! I would highly recommend them if you are looking for a fun vacation activity!

Andrew is the best surf guide we've ever had! He's so much fun to work with and I learned so much I didn't know before from other lessons... like how to do a handstand and surf through the pier's legs! jk - but we did catch some wonderful smooth waves that were really fun and enjoyed his laid back approach :) We'll be doing it again next year for sure!

Booked a semi-private session for two 12 year old girls during their spring break. They had such a good time and the whole staff at the beach was awesome. The booking and waiver process was straight forward and mobile friendly. I highly recommend supporting these folks!

I showed up like 45 minutes late due to getting off work late and getting caught in traffic and they still let me in and gave me their full attention. I had a really good instructor, Shane. Very good teacher. The experience was gnarly and totally tubular. One might even say bodacious. Dare I say radical?

We had an absolute blast trying surfing for the first time. This was the most reasonably priced surf lessons on folly we found. There were 5 of us in our group of upper 20s/young 30s ladies with 2 instructors. We did a few minutes of land instruction and then walked out with our boards and hit the waves the rest of the lesson. Luckily we had the nice even small rolling waves which we perfect for learning and all were getting up on the board by the end of the lesson. All the instructors were super chill and friendly. If you are consider signing up, this is your sign to do it.

Well run operation. Easy to schedule/book. The lessons are fun but don't expect to be competent after 1 or even 5 lessons--you'll have to make it your lifestyle if you want to pick up the sport--but this is a good place to start.

Great experience! We did a private group session with 3 kids and 2 young adults. The instructors were great, super attentive to each person. Would highly recommend for kids or adults. Booking was really easy too.

Absolutely love Isla and what Peter has created. The instructors are the best around. I take a lesson with them every time I'm in town (4th one this morning) and every instructor has been amazing. If you're looking for a great place to learn the sport in Charleston, this is the place to go.

Flexible, empowering, cool, fairly priced, nice people(but everyone is in charleston) Next time im in town will definitely be back, highly recommend to ALL!

Shane and his team were outstanding, kids (and me) loved their class, instructors were attentive and thoughtful, gave great feedback, and we all become wave catching machines after a day or two :) highly recommend, we will be back!

My two younger teen daughters and I scheduled a lesson with Isla Surf School and really enjoyed our time. We had never surfed before. Our instructor Jake was very thorough and patient with us. For the record, I sucked at the beginning and sucked at the end, but my daughters improved dramatically during the course of our hour and a half lesson. They want to go again and perhaps take it up as a hobby

My sister and I did a semi private lesson with Box who was such a kind and patient instructor. We're beginners and appreciated all his help! and He helped us onto many waves, came and got us if we drifted and overall made sure we had a good time. Highly recommend!

Highlight of our week long trip in Folly Beach and downtown Charleston! I definitely would recommend this and will to any friends and family visiting Charleston. Waves are tame which is great for learning and the instructor we had was awesome!

We had a great experience with Isla Surfing last week. We had both group lessons for three younger children and a surf camp attendee! We couldn't be happier! All four of the kids loved it and for three of them it was their first time Surfing! The instructors were very good with the young kids without coddling them. The camp counselors were very attentive and helpful throughout the week! We can't wait to do it again next year!

Peter was an amazing teacher! We were at Folly for Spring Break and he did a group lesson for us. All three girls were able to get up on the board, on their first run. Thank you, Peter! The girls had such a great time, despite the chilly temps and the strong winds. Loved the t-shirts, as well! We'll be sure to see you again.

I participated in 2 of the Surf & Yoga classes that Isla offered last summer and had a blast! I had heard about them through the yoga instructor Kat, who is also excellent, and was very impressed by how well Kat and Peter balanced the classes between yoga and surfing. Peter is an great instructor and really has an knack for assessing your skills ( or lack there of ) and providing quick constructive feedback. I don't I've improved that quickly with anything in an hour before. Thanks Peter and I hope you bring back the yoga/surf combo this summer!

Our family, kids age 5,7,and 9, had never surfed before. We found Isla Surf School and signed up for a semi-private lesson. We had two instructors for the five of us. Everyone was up and surfing within the first 20 mins of the 90 mins lesson. The kids, who I was worried about the most, caught on the fastest and didn't want the lesson to end. I highly recommend Isla Surf School. The instructors were great. Make sure you put the sunscreen on the back of your legs!

Peter and Isla Surf really know what they're doing! Best Surf lesson I could imagine! I planned a bachelor party group lesson with Peter and Isla Surf for about 25 guys. The communication in advance was super quick and everything went as smoothly as could be. We broke up into groups, and they made it fun not only for the guys in the water, but for each group as we took turns on land. Set up a tent to grab some shade, play beach games, and relax while the in-water crew caught waves. We all had a blast learning and Peter and Monica tailored their tips for each of us so guys of all ability levels could have a good time, and catch some good waves. Peter's a professional and his tips are great for getting you up on the board. I would 100% book through Isla Surf again. Top notch experience!

Isla surfing School and My man Pistol Pete - what can I say - this dude is the man. Great surfer - great teacher - taught me how to be totally Agro when a sweet set is rolling in!!! I highly recommend peter and Isla and the only reason I didn't give him 5 stars is because ... Well who ever really believes a 5 star review!

We had lots of fun with Peter and Declan as our surfing coaches. They are really professional and full of patience. After our first surfing lesson，we mastered pop up and caught many good rides all the way to the beach. It had several showers of the weather，once we began to surf it got sunny. We don't need to worry about get sunburn. They provide trainning tops to protect our skin as well. Now we're planning to come again and learn more advanced tips and see our lovely coaches again in the summer.

very good instruction and kid friendly as well -- they picked us up at our hotel and provided door to door service (believe they are the only ones who do that, btw) -- instruction was great (more than one instructor) -- they have been teaching for years on nantucket and on long island, so they are able to get even beginners up and standing. highly recommend.

I organized a group surfing lesson at Isla Surf School for my sister's bachelorette party -- Peter and his crew did an amazing job. Pretty much all of us were newbies but he was great at going through all the steps of paddling out there and getting up on the board. There were 2 other instructors on the water with us so everyone felt extremely comfortable and received a lot of one-on-one coaching. The waves were pretty big but Peter and his team were very supportive and encouraging! Everyone of us caught at least one wave and we were feeling pretty good about ourselves by the end! I would 100p do it again.

They taught my 7 year old daughter how to surf, she loved every second even when the water cooled... phenomenal, we'll be back.
