Island Lava Java: Your Hawaiian Breakfast/Brunch Must-Stop with Breathtaking Views! 🌊🌴☀️ Okay, you HAVE to make Island Lava Java a must-stop on your trip to Hawaii! Seriously! The view itself while you're eating is absolutely breathtaking. You are literally right next to the ocean, and you can hear the waves crashing and smell that amazing ocean air – it was so incredible! 🤩 We loved it so much that we had breakfast and brunch here multiple days of our stay because it was really that good. They have amazing coffee drinks that are perfect for starting your morning right. And the food variety is awesome because they literally have something for everyone! We took our little one, and they had great options for picky eaters, but then they also had incredible dishes for the expert food critics among us! You can sit downstairs or upstairs, and they have umbrellas to give you some amazing shade if it's super sunny. The service was incredible, and the people working there were so amazing and friendly! Plus, they have a full bar, so you can enjoy a yummy drink with your meal. 🍹 Honestly, this place was everything you needed to start your morning in Hawaii. I have nothing bad to say about it because, again, the view in itself was worth trying this place! You absolutely have to experience it! It's pure bliss! ✨🙌🏽

I popped into this venue with my wife for breakfast and was happy I did. The breakfast was good portion and delicious. The coffee was very smooth and the patio is on point. They had a good sized menu and the service was friendly and quick. I’d recommend popping into this place for breakfast or brunch on the beach!

Google
Island Lava Java far and away exceeded our expectations, and was a delightful, delicious place to enjoy our last dinner before leaving Kona for home. The prices make sense once your sumptuous plate of food is placed in front of you, and is served quickly, piping hot and delectable. Our drinks were also wonderful, and were made with much skill, making the price once again make sense. Our waiter (who also tended to all of the other patrons this evening) was extremely attentive without pestering us, noticed when we needed something, and always replied with a "yes, right away" when we had a request. His service made our evening very enjoyable and carefree, and meant so much to us. The restaurant is off of busy Ali'i drive, but overlooks a scenic ocean view, and makes a great place to enjoy dinner and lovely scenery. We enjoyed our dinner experience thoroughly, and would 10/10 recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious dining experience here in Kona.

Google
Soooo good we visited not once but twice! We contemplated a third time! We grabbed breakfast both times. Lots of delicious options. The island Benedict was amazing. The pancakes island style un real! The pancakes are huge and fluffy. As good as they look. Definitely going to miss it!

Google
LOVED this place so much we went twice in 3 days! Definitely recommend the Mac pancakes with the house coconut syrup. The fresh fruit served with my breakfast was delicious and included local Star Fruit! The Portuguese sausage was tasty. My daughter and son had the eggs Benedict which is their favorite! The bacon was stick and flavorful. The second time we went I had the omelette. The dish was plated beautifully with a plumeria leaf on the top. Definitely recommend this place. Affordable local flavor.

Google
My wife and I stopped by early in the morning and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and attentive. We tried the “Drag it Thru the Garden” breakfast sandwich and the Island Eggs Benedict with rustic potatoes — both were simple but really tasty. We also had a fresh juice that hit the spot. We sat out on the front patio with a nice sea view and a refreshing breeze. Great food, chill vibe, and awesome setting — perfect way to start the day. Definitely worth checking out for breakfast!

Google
Nice atmosphere, friendly service, good food. The food takes a little long, but you're right by the ocean so how can you not enjoy waiting? Came by myself, so I was able to sit right away at the bar. The place does get pretty crowded, so for larger groups you'll probably have to wait if you don't have a reservation. There was live music. Been here a few times on my short weekend trips to Hawaii Island, and have always enjoyed it.

Google
Solid 3. Food was very underwhelming, small in portion and overpriced. The pork ribs were dry, ono fish was overcooked, and salad was far from fresh. Service was also underwhelming — we had to try very hard to get the waiter’s attention for everything we needed.

Allison K.

Yelp
This is the best breakfast spot oceanfront in Kilua-Kona! The service is friendly, the food is great and the views are fantastic. I always get the "Island Style" waffle, the coconut syrup is my favorite. My husband ordered the Pineapple Upside Down French Toast and it was delicious. We have been here for breakfast many times over the years and will keep coming back. And we have often had lunch and dinner here as well, you can't go wrong!

Yelp
Atmosphere? Well your literally sitting with the view of the beach, it cannot get any better than that. Service was very good, no complaints. Attentive and were always checking to make sure any refills were needed. The breakfast we ordered was great and the coffee was hot and robust. The eggs benedict were picture perfect and the waffle came out looking like something out of a food network show. Plain and simple, way better than anything at Dennys.

Yelp
I got the lava java breakfast with scrambled eggs. It was your basic breakfast. Nothing special, but still good. I secured a reservation with open table and since it was midweek, I was able to get the time slot I wanted. We sat on the second floor with a view! The breeze was nice, too. My girls enjoyed the keiki chocolate chip pancake breakfast! Delicious. Our waitress was sweet. We have a tree nut allergy in the family and I always make sure the waitress is aware. She put it in the notes and I love that places are very cautious!

Yelp
Lava Java this place takes "island vibes" to a whole new level. The Big Island Beet Salad was a tropical dream, with tender beets, creamy goat cheese, and avocado that'll make you believe salads can actually be exciting. The Fiery Calamari? A spicy, crispy explosion of flavor with blistered peppers and ginger aioli that'll have you hooked. And the Toscana Pizza? A true island indulgence grilled chicken, smoky bacon, and creamy garlic sauce all piled on a crispy crust. And shoutout to the waiter for making group dining a breeze. No drama, no "we can only take 3 cards," no hassle...just a simple scan of your receipt and bam, you're paid up. It was the easiest bill split Lava Java, you've got me hooked!

Yelp
Came here on Thanksgiving Day with my family of 4 since it was one of the few places open with full service and conveniently located in Downtown Kona. I didn't have the highest expectations for the food here since it definitely seems like one of the more overrated touristy spots but it was a solid place for a family meal and I'm thankful that it wasn't too tough to get a relatively last minute reservation for a holiday dinner. My family really enjoyed the coconut shrimp (probably the best plate here tbh). We also ordered the crab cakes, lemongrass curry fresh catch, guava BBQ ribs and Thanksgiving plate which were all decent (though overall everything was a bit on the drier side and slightly lacking in flavor) but no real standouts. My biggest gripe here was the subpar service -- probably the first time I've experienced less than very friendly service out of the seven times I've visited Hawaii. We were seated at a table with barely any adjacent lighting and were struggling to see the menu. I asked our server if they had candles or portable lights available to which he tersely responded "nope". When I explained that we couldn't see the menu very well, he shrugged unapologetically and said "idk, use your phones?" I get that it sucks to work on a holiday but to be served by someone who could barely pretend to care about our dining experience and didn't even offer to reseat us at a better lit table (when there were multiple empty tables next to us) was a little disheartening on Thanksgiving Day. I probably wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless you're looking for an easy-to-reserve and reasonably priced spot with safe (albeit mid) option right to please a bigger group. Biggest pro is probably location since it's ideally situated in the heart of downtown with plenty of surrounding shoppes to browse and the front seating area which has a nice view of the ocean waves on Kailua Bay.

Yelp
Good meal with great view. Eilean our server was awesome and chipper and great vibes. So if looking for bfast spot in Kona... this place had good food with lots of selection and a great view with good vibes. I got the lava Java bfast. Pancake, eggs, meat. Yum!! Wife got bene!! And niece nephew got the island bene. All so good.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect. Great service, great breakfast, great coffee. We had a killer breakfast of waffles with banana macadamia nut, mahi mahi and eggs, and garden scramble. Every item was better than the next. The view of the ocean was amazing. The French press was amazing. The atmosphere was amazing. I would come here 7 out of 7. What a home run...
google avatar

Mary N.

Yelp
Complete tourist trap. The only thing that was decent was the coconut shrimp. Everything else was subpar. The mahi mahi fish tacos were the driest fish tacos i've ever had. It came out cold, overcooked, and dry. The fries that came with it were also cold (not luke warm, just plain cold). The poke lacked in flavor and fell flat. The burger looked unappetizing, on par with a fast food joint.
google avatar

Yelp
Super fun location. Great local style food. I definitely recommend this location. Our table was, literally, right in front of the ocean. The water would splash against the lava rock and a mist would sometimes reach us. It was completely dreamy!

Yelp
I've been coming to Lava Java for over a decade. I love this place and I want it to succeed which is why I am compelled to write this review. This review is NOT about the service. I always eat at the bar 99% of the time when I come here so please keep that in mind. The bartenders, Jessie and Lizzy, are great. For additional context, I also follow a keto lifestyle when I eat (low carb, high protein, moderate fat for satiety). My 'go to' bar meal at Lava Java is the guava BBQ rib appetizer. The best I've had in Kona so far. Today I decided to try LJ's Steak & Frites. The menu describes this as a 10oz sliced Angus NY strip steak w/fingerling potato "frites." sautéed broccolini, shiitake mushroom & smoked bacon Bordelaise sauce at $42. I decided to order the LJ Steak & Frites w/the steak cooked medium (without the frites) and extra broccolini to see if this is something I would add to my Kona Keto dining-out options in the future. Here are the results: (1) The NY steak was well done (totally cooked through), not medium (mostly cooked with some pink). I decided to 'live with it' and ate the steak well-done steak. It was not tough, and the Bordelaise Sauce contributed to the taste which I appreciated. (2) The item came with broccoli, not broccolini. The broccoli was plentiful but undercooked. I ate it anyway because I was trying to get my intake of cruciferous veggies. I like broccoli but I prefer broccolini with steak. I told the bartender that the veggie was broccoli, not broccolini. She looked up the difference on her phone and went to the kitchen to report the difference. She came back and said they were out of broccolini and hadn't updated the menu. (3) I was a little skeptical about the Bordelaise sauce but I feel like it saved the steak, in part, given that it was overcooked. The key question is whether I would order this again. The answer is no. I have ordered other steaks (ribeyes) at a couple of other restaurants in Kona that are comparably priced, not overcooked and with appropriately cooked Keto veggies. I still love Lava Java, and I will continue to come here for the view and guava BBQ rib appetizers at $17.50 as of the date of this review. I love the bar, the ribs are good, it's chill, and it's a good place to eat and drink while watching the water, especially if you are a solo female traveler. I will return but won't order the NY strip again.

Yelp
This is a friendly place to visit for a casual breakfast, lunch or dinner. The staff is friendly and the open air restaurant allows for great views of the water. The prices are reasonable and it's in a great location to walk around an explore Kona.

Teri K.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped here for our first breakfast in town not knowing what to expect but it has a great ocean view. I ordered the scrambled egg dish with mushrooms and veggies with a macadamia pesto sauce. It was amazing! Updated my side to a half papaya which was also outstanding! Had it with a delicious tropical iced tea. My friend had the 2eggs with bacon and brown rice (they were out of potatoes due to a late delivery) and a mimosa with lilikoi. It was so filling and delicious! We are planning to be back tonight to try dinner and cocktails !!!! Can't wait!!! Mahalo

Yelp
Great location and pretty yummy food. We were a group of 7 and 2 kids and they sat us quickly. They were able to take all of our complicated orders with no errors and the food was yummy! I got the Island Benedict(?) the one on a croissant and it was delicious! Perfect hollandaise. One of my fav items had to be the pineapple upside down french toast. So light and fluffy and divine.
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
Back to Lava Java, this time for breakfast. We were able to find parking in the free lot in the back so we didn't have to hassle with the down town paid parking fiasco, $6 cups of coffee but they were really good and endless. The Island Benedict was excellent with perfectly poached eggs, seasoned potatoes and fancy ham on a croissant. Hubs got the Lavender Java breakfast, and he very nearly finished it. Service was prompt and thoughtful. I felt our server was really trying to make sure everything was perfect for us and she did a great job. Ambiance is comfy and we got a table on the waterfront right when they opened at 7am. Really great!

Yelp
Must stop for breakfast when in Kona. Amazing staff, food and view. We always get the Hawaii style pancakes, Sausage and egg Benedict!
google avatar

Felicia N.

Yelp
Idk who goes here but they must be a little tipsy. The food is okay and the service is very demanding. I asked if we could order food and drinks together and she was very stern like hold on let's order drinks first. Sorry I have 4 kids who are hungry and just want to order. The ambiance is whatever. I feel like it's not friendly family which is crazy cause it got such good reviews. The spot and views is great but go somewhere else if you have a family and want to be charge extra for a credit card and for ordering an egg.
google avatar

Sara T.

Yelp
We went here for breakfast and ordered the garden scramble which was DELICIOUS! It came with many veggies and was topped with goat cheese and Mac nut pesto! We also ordered the pineapple upside down French toast which they make their own syrup and that was filling and delicious! I ordered the Matcha Latte which was perfect! Super creamy and not too sweet. My girl ordered the Hibiscus Mimosa which came with the flower inside and she ate that at the end! She def got a buzz off of this :) Our server was super attentive, and it's right on Alii drive so we were able to walk there from our room and have a view of the ocean!
google avatar

Bianca T.

Yelp
This was probably the most full restaurant we've been to on our trip to the Big Island. There's just less tourists than Honolulu. I ended up getting the luau scramble, which was decent. My mom got the garden scramble and the flavor wasn't as good as the one I got. I added a little tabasco sauce to my scramble and that helped the flavor pop even more. I would say the service wasn't that great. Wasn't sure if it was our particular waitress. She walked towards our table, and smiled right at me looking like she was going to take our order, and instead went to the table behind me and helped them instead. She later came back to take our order and was not very welcoming. We got seated under a tree so leaves and pieces of the branches kept falling down, which was completely understandable. What I didn't enjoy was when something fell into my dad's water and we needed to ask the waitress 3 times for a new cup. It took more than 10minutes to just get a new cup of water. Majority of the tables are outside or feel like they're outside as it's an open space with no windows. You have a view out towards the water which was nice in the morning.

Allene A.

Yelp
Quick and friendly service on a bomb beach front restaurant. The blackened shrimp tacos with house chipotle sauce and fresh fries were amazing! And very popular. The luau scramble with pork and pineapple was unique and also bomb, just wish there was more pork! Drinks were yummy and not strong at all- the hibiscus lemonade came w a candied hibiscus... I could eat a whole bbq stick of just that hahaha
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
Great brunch spot!!! I had the POG cocktail but substituted vodka for rum. Delish!! Better than the lilikoi mimosa. Anyways had the pancakes with the Mac nuts and coconut. Huge portion but flavor was lacking. The other dishes were good we had their specialty which was a scramble with pork and pineapple!!! Overall a solid spot with parking in the back. Don't immediately pay for your parking spot because they offer validation here!!

Yelp
We really had a great dinner here. We ordered the mahi mahi, a smash burger, and a ahi salad. All was delicious. The mahi mahi had a lemon sauce on it with jasmine rice. The smash burger was large and had fries. The ahi salad was great. It had a lemon vinaigrette on it. Delicious. The service was alright. It did take us awhile to be waited on which was annoying but when the server came, the order was in and good was out in no time. The view from the restaurant is incredible. Sitting out on the porch area looking out at the water, makes for a great Hawaiian dinner.
google avatar

Kyong L.

Yelp
Fresh catch was way over priced. A few asparagus with small pieces of mahi was $40. The bartender was very friendly but our server was not. She almost threw plates on the table when putting down. Other than this, food tastes pretty good. So service 3, price is 3 Food is 4-5
google avatar

Nal S.

Yelp
This was a great restaurant to dine at, offering beautiful ocean views right in downtown Kona. I enjoyed a lychee mimosa and the island-style Benedict (if I recall the name correctly). The portion sizes were generous and kept me satisfied through a full day of adventures. The service was quick and efficient.

Tomomi S.

Yelp
I was here for breakfast before and it was pretty good, so decided to stop here for dinner. Great island ambiance, downstairs with live music and upstairs, beautiful sunset view. Very friendly server too! Kanaka fries was interesting. Mount of fries with sweet savory and wasabi sauce with sesame seeds...Mmmm... Wasabi lover will really like this dish. Ono fish & chips - soft and fresh Ono was sweet and tender. My chicken sandwich was okay, I wish I ordered fish & chips though. Also ask for today's special drink! They do come up with some interesting and delicious mixed drinks.
google avatar

Derek V.

Yelp
Good spot with a great view. We came here for breakfast and a morning espresso... martini. Make it a double! Nice way to start a day while on vacation! The food I got was great, I ordered the Eggs Benedict that was served with the fresh catch of the day. And those espresso martinis were delicious! I will say, my only issue would probably be with the service. Not terrible, just the tiniest bit dismissive. We felt like the hostess was a little short with us when my friend asked if there was any seating closer to the front; which we actually joked about with each other because my friend was very sweet about the way she asked. Also, our waiter didn't check up on us, which was a little disappointing, given our water was never refilled once while we sat there... and we ordered a double martini. That's a lot of alcohol for only one glass of water. But it could've just been an off day. I enjoyed the food and loved the views!

Yelp
Every visit to Kona we end up at Island Lava Java at multiple times, especially for breakfast/brunch. Such a great menu, welcoming staff and gorgeous setting. The food is consistently good, well played, fresh ingredients and the mimosas hit the spot! I like the option for a reservation as most places in that area don't offer that.

Andrew R.

Yelp
Half of the tables food was good, the other half was horrible. The restaurant was out of a few things which was honestly a major bummer because three of the items were what we went to this resturant for. The server jokingly said after the third request "stop asking for the popular stuff, you're making me look bad" and said "It not your fault, it's the owner and managers." As nothing else sounds good, I said I will just have some of the apps and be fine. He wasn't pleased. I then ordered the island pizza with pineapple and pork. It tasted so foul, I have to assume he or the kitchen added something to it to make it horrible because of all my earlier request. It wasn't eatable, my friends even agreed it was horrible. Definitely spend your time and money elsewhere.

Shelley M.

Yelp
Awesome sunset views, we could see the fish in the waves. Best Mai tai with fresh juice. Really a great experience!
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
This place was great! We sat outside and had a gorgeous view of the ocean. We are staying right down the street from here so it was extremely convenient for us to walk here. The food was so yummy! They served our kona coffee in a big mug and I ordered a freshly squeezed apple and ginger juice. They had many to choose from and you could mix whatever you wanted. I got a fresh fish Benedict with Ono and it was so delicious. They do their Benedict's on a croissant. I loved it. Served with fresh fruit that was perfectly ripe and sweet. My mom ordered an egg scramble with cheese, onions, pineapple and pork and it was incredible as well. Service was quick and friendly. We would definitely go back here!

Jolie M.

Yelp
Sunday 11 am we were able to get w table right away upstairs. Server very nice brought water right away. Ordered fish tacos with salad and a luau scramble with bacon and potatoes. My husband is a big eater and we shared both plates and both left satisfied. Everything else being served around us looked great too and everyone looked happy. Great view- recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Overrated. The first time I've ever had a pancake that couldn't cut with a fork. Unfriendly service

Yelp
I was excited to try this place out for brunch. We got there maybe 12:30-12:35 PM on Sunday and were given brunch menus as well as their all-day menu. We needed a couple minutes to decide what to eat and at 12:50 PM tried to place our order and we were informed that they stopped serving brunch as 12:40 PM. I was extremely disappointed because I came here specifically for brunch and we were not informed what time they stopped serving brunch. It would've been nice to get some kind of warning from the hostess or our waitress, or to even have an end time listed on the brunch menu. The waitress was at least nice enough to offer some suggestions from their all-day menu but I was honestly still pretty upset. We ended up getting the fish tacos, macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi, and guava bbq ribs. The fish tacos were okay- the tortilla was soft but there was a little too much sauce. You get to choose a side of salad, fries, or sweet potato fries and the sweet potato fries were great. The macadamia nut crusted fresh catch was pretty good but the fish was a little tough and the rice was fragrant but weirdly oily? The guava bbq ribs were a nice surprise. The meat is very tender and comes off the bone easily and is not too sweet. Our waitress was very friendly and seemed lovely, but it still would've been nice to get some kind of warning that brunch was ending soon. Food wasn't bad, but nothing spectacular. It's mostly outdoor seating and it's quite close to the water, so with good weather the views are great.

Yelp
I kinda forgot to take pics of the food! I was so busy and in a rush to eat! The restaurant is so cute! It has a beautiful view of the ocean, great vibes! Love love love the view! The mimosas were delicious! We had the lilikoi mimosa yummm. We made a reservation and they seated us early! Win! Off of the breakfast plate I will say the pancakes were HUGE I could not finish, the potatoes were the best part! So seasoned! Highly recommend!

Yelp
It's been 2 years since the last time we were here and today we saw the effects of shrinkflation on their food. We ordered takeout and my wife ordered the "Drag it through the garden" croissant sandwich and it's shrunk as you can tell by the picture. And on top of that, they didn't put in any avocado as decribed. WTF? Come on man. You guys are hella busy so there's ZERO reason to cut corners like this.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
Somewhat average food, a little overpriced for what you get. The guava ribs were pretty tasty but the burger and fish fell a little flat. If I was to come back, I'd probably try the breakfast instead of lunch.
google avatar

Ilona A.

Yelp
Service here was friendly and attentive. My group of 3 adults and a child were sat down for Sunday brunch with out a reservation. The view was amazing and well made up for the fact we had to wait to be greeted by a server. The food was good and worth the price because it was more than enough to be shared with my little one. Definitely a child friendly environment

Yelp
Friendly aloha spirit here! Stumbled upon this place when we were turned away from a more well-known place. Couldn't be happier. Happy hour is spectacular- $6 Mai Tais- and they were strong! Ample soace at the bar too. Local vibe as much as it could be in Kona Town. Its kitschy and touristy but I love it- I hope it always remains the same.
google avatar

Zo M.

Yelp
Love this coffeehouse / breakfast hot spot on the Big Island of Kona across . With spectacular views of the ocean across from the cafe, this Cafe was perfect for their signature large Cinnamon rolls and coffee breakfast. Service was served ohana style with good vibes and kind words.

Yelp
The wings were delicious - if you prefer saucy, lightly crisp, not heavily battered wings. They were nice, chunky wings, too, and not skimpy little things. They were served with carrot sticks and ranch, for a nice pupu with our drinks. Lost a star for not blending any of their drinks. Come on - it's Kona! Lots of people are gonna want a blended drink as the sun sets over the bay, no? However, we were super lucky that my "line fairy" was looking out for me. We got a table right at the rail with the best view without a wait. The wait staff seemed slammed and not so friendly, but who wouldn't be less than cheerful if too many people called out sick on you. ‍
google avatar

Yelp
Food - I got the upside pineapple French toast. It wasn't overly sweet and the portion was a good size. I didn't feel overly stuffed afterwards. Would recommend getting again. We also got the papaya yogurt and it was so fresh especially to balance the heaviness of the French toast. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and so fresh. Service - friendly service. Our waitress made a mistake on our order but she caught it and made adjustments to our bill. We made reservations (party of 2) and even though it wasn't busy we were glad we did because they saved us a seat upstairs facing the ocean so I'd strongly recommend booking in advance. There were also only a few other folks upstairs compared to the bottom level. Ambience - busy but efficient. Great open space with lots of seatings. Ocean views!

Yelp
Food taste: 4/5 Location: 5/5 Ambience: 5/5 The best thing about this restaurant is really the location. Perfect vibes watching the waves roll in as you eat your meal. Located in a beachy part of town. Not hard to find street parking nearby. I was disappointed a bit by the food. I had a fish taco and calamari. The calamari wasn't great--kinda chewy and the fish taco was just ok. Alot of reviews recommended it for breakfast and it may just be that they have better breakfast food than lunch food. But you can't beat the vibes!

Rudy L.

Yelp
I recommend the pancakes they were amazing and huge! I also recommend that you order one and share between two people since the pancakes are huge! The servers are nice and polite and try their best to deliver our food in quick time, overall the service was good. The environment is clean and pretty, it was amazing for pictures and was ver

Yelp
We love this place! We stumbled across it on our first day in Kona and we went back every day at least once. Breakfast - Bloody Mary is a must - the candied bacon is to die for! The cinnamon roll and the pineapple upside down French toast are worth the calories. For lunch or dinner - pizzas are delicious and the Nicoise salad - ooh la la! Bartenders make great drinks - my personal favorite is the Coco Mo. mmmmmm! And the view...great anytime but sunsets are particularly special.

Yelp
Stopped in for a lovely breakfast. The proximity to the water and views were amazing. I had the pineapple upside down french toast and my wife had the macadamia pancakes. Both were really tasty. The french toast had a nice caramelized brown sugar sauce, tender pineapple and toasted pecans. The only thing missing may have been a nice dollop of whipped cream. My wife elected to have strawberry subbed instead of the bananas and she was very pleased. The coconut creamy syrup brought it all together. On an early morning and not so sunny my wife loved stay warm with a nice cup of Thai Chi Latte.

Yelp
Excellent food and view. I got the fish tacos with fries and it was absolutely delicious. You can tell the fish is fresh. My brother got the pizza and said it was really good. Service and view was great. No wait either.

Yelp
Came back again during our week to outstanding service (thanks Tawny!) and tasty food. We were seated upstairs this time with another amazing view of the ocean. Thanks again!

I so love this place! Sitting across the street from the water, in downtown Kona, is Island Lava Java. It is open air and many tables have a great view of the water. We came here 3 or 4 times while we were on the Big Island for both Breakfast and Happy Hour. To start, breakfast was oh so yummy with both savory and sweet options and absolutely wonderful coffee. I really enjoyed my garden omlet and the potatoes were served crispy and perfect. The Happy Hour had great drinks and the aps were yummy. We are vegetarian and they had really good lettuce cups that we had with our drinks. The customer service was great and you felt super welcome. I really liked the fact that you could reserve a table on open table and request a view of the water. There was a parking lot in the back and we never had a problem finding a space. Honestly, one of my favorite spots in downtown Kona to drink and eat. I will be back! Thanks for making our trip to the Big Island awesome. Aloha!

Yelp
Stopped there after we landed at Kona International Airport. Had a nice brunch the fam. Had the hummus with taro chips (delicious! The chips almost tasted like bacon!!) we also ordered the fish tacos and the basic island breakfast. Service was a bit slow and uninspired but ok. Good ambiance right across the water. Parking all around.

Yelp
Dylan the waiter was very friendly; even laughed at my husband's kidding around. We had a wonderful experience overall. Watched the sunset over our cocktails. It was gorgeous. The drinks were delicious! I had a Pono Mai Tai. Appetizer of coconut shrimp was awesome with the dipping sauce. Loved my salad nicoise with seared ahi. Husband had the fresh fish and chips (fries). Everything tasted fresh! Very pleased with the service, the atmosphere and the menu selection. Highly recommend . Yelp reviews didn't let us down on this one.
