Islington Hotel

The Islington Hotel is absolute perfection — a hidden gem tucked into the hills of Mt. Wellington with breathtaking views right from the patio. Every detail is exquisite, from the fur blankets and perfectly stocked wine in the room to the cozy, elegant atmosphere that feels like a true home away from home. Breakfast each morning was a highlight — freshly baked pastries and an incredible spread from the in-house chef that made it hard to ever leave. But what truly makes the experience unforgettable is Karen, the warm and welcoming host who remembers every guest by name and makes you feel genuinely cared for. If you’re looking for a beautiful boutique escape in Tasmania — peaceful, luxurious, and full of heart — the Islington is the place. I can’t wait to return.

My wife and I stayed at the Islington during a recent holiday in Tasmania. It is a lovely boutique hotel! It is beautifully appointed and the public areas are luxurious. The staff were very welcoming and very attentive throughout our stay. Breakfast was great! Gardens have a lovely view towards Mount Wellington and the neighbourhood where the hotel is located is very nice indeed. It's a very easy drive into downtown Hobart (about five minutes). A great hotel in a lovely city.

We stayed at Islington during our 5-day visit in Hobart. It is a memory to bring home and live with for a long time to come. The hotel has 11 suits and we stayed at one of the garden suites that opens to part of the garden. That is a view to wake up and retire to bed with. There is plenty of extraordinary landscaping genius to admire throughout the property. There are a number to common rooms to roam around, each with a different theme, all are well decorated with fantastical wall arts. The dining area is ultramodern and a place to admire every time one steps into it.|Karen and her team (Issac, etc) are absulutely wonderful people and dedicated to making guests' stay comfortable. And the chef makes incredible breakfasts dishes to order with taste and presentation that rivals any reputable restaurants. |The hotel is situated in an upscale neighborhood south of Hobart with nice houses and views of Wellington. A plug to Hobart - a lively city with vibrant restaurant scene to come back to after a day trip to one of the nearby peninsula or islands.|Karen and team, thank you for making our stay a wonderful memory.

A beautiful building with staff that immediately made us feel at home. We booked for a further stay before leaving Tas and could not have been happier. The option for pillow selection, welcoming staff, and a good selection of wine really help you feel pampered.

What a fabulous boutique hotel. Only 11 rooms, a mixture of old and new. We stayed in one of the original rooms, the loft. The room was great , big room with a massive and comfortable king size bed. ||The highlights, so many which include |- turn down service with tea and chocolates |- games room|- beautiful gardens |- contential breakfast and hot breakfast, cooked by a chef|- daily cooked cookies|- views of Mt Wellington |- brillant host||You will not be disappointed

I would return to Hobart purely to stay at The Islington (a compliment I’ve never given a hotel). Impeccable food, service, and architecture. Perhaps the greatest sourdough I have tasted. The Islington reminds its occupants that boutique, personal experiences are always worth it. I will be back!

The Islington was everything we desired as a honeymoon location. This is glorious heritage hotel with so much charm and elegance. Karen Anne, the hotel manager, was delightful, making us feel special from as soon as we got through the door. The room (the Signature Suite) was luxurious with beautiful art, a very comfortable bed, and relaxing large bath. The breakfast was excellent and kept us fueled while exploring Hobart. We loved our evenings exploring the various common areas with a glass of wine (and a good book). Could not recommend the Islington enough for couples searching for a perfect honeymoon location. The Islington is about a 25 minute walk from the centre of Hobart and you're transported to a Regent English manor - a place where the royals would probably holiday. It's got that country charm with manicured gardens, eclectic collection of museum quality artworks and graphic interior which could easily be in Vogue. Dinner is for house guests only, so luckily we were able to secure an invite by some friends. We were treated to a private dinner in the library (minus Colonel Mustard and the candlestick), however not before having a drink in the lounge. The menu offered home style cooking with the focus on local and seasonal produce and extensive wine list. I opted for the freshly made gnocchi with tomato sugo and parmesan crisps and the super rich chocolate an forest berry ice-cream salad to end a very indulgent night. The Islington makes you feel completely at home (we even spied a couple in there bath robes eating!). It's open plan design with a recently contemporary renovation in the rooms downstairs, it truly is the epitome of luxe!

After endless delays out of Sydney, we finally arrived in Tasmania and to the Islington well past midnight! This is not your typical hotel that has a check-in desk...it's more like a B&B. The overnight manager greeted us in her robe and led us to our room. Since it was so late we just went straight to our room and eventually missed out on the story and tour of the hotel. Our room faced the back garden with a wonderful view. I loved that their bathroom is stocked with Aesop products. The big downside is that it is far from everything. We ended up walking to and back from Templo, which I really didn't mind since I grew up in San Francisco and is used to walking up and down a ton of hills, but it can be inconvenient. The breakfast here is great and my hubby loves the cafe lattes here! They recently brought on a new head chef who was previously at Saffire, so I'm sure the food is going to get even better than it already is!

Islington Hotel far exceeded our expectation, especially with the staff and service. We stayed in one of the rooms in the back of the hotel, which is a newer modern addition to the existing Victorian esque house. Our view was of the garden and the rolling hills of Hobart. While the hotel itself was spotless, beautiful, and comfortable, it was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff that really left a great impression on us.

Spent three nights at the Islington. They have a great staff, check-in was a breeze. Our room was #7, in the new part of the hotel and right next to the kitchen and dining area. Yet, it was entirely quiet in the room during our stay. Since the hotel was full, that was a pleasant surprise. The room was fine, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was fantastic with a great side bar loaded with fruit and pastries and excellent hot, to-order egg dishes and French toast. The original part of the hotel, which had been a house, had a very comfortable drawing room and equally nice living room with chess sets and games. The biggest negative to the hotel was its location. Unless you want a long walk, probably around 30+ minutes, you'll have to catch a cab into shopping and dining, assuming you don't have a car. A plus is Uber started in Tasmania in December of 2016, and it's only five dollars or so with them. If you do have a car they have a very small parking area. Even if we had a rental car, however, I still would have wanted to stay in town. Driving on the "wrong" side of the road, or any side for that matter, after a couple of drinks is not a good idea.
