Outstanding Italian cuisine.
The menu of the day was heavy on venison; we ended up with a venison ragout, which was tender and savory, but was still distinctively not beef. Certainly mellow and not gamey --- perhaps farmed venison?
The smaller plates we ordered --- pasta fagioli (potted pasta with beans) and risotto --- were savory and made you feel like you were visiting someone's family.
Even the insalata mista and mortadella were nicely above average.
Desserts were each good, and balanced each other nicely. The torta della casa was a fairly straight-ahead dense chocolate cake, and the tartufa di limoncello was bizarre --- crispy lemony outside, fluffy lemon fluff (somewhere between gelato and marshmallow), and a dense lemon-curd-jelly core.
Service was excellent, attentive, and managed a health emergency from another customer with a nice balance of efficiency and aplomb. The reservation system involves a website, some text messages, and no waiting on hold --- I'm a fan.
Their website even includes a Tetris game. Who does that?
