FINALLY! 5/5 across the board! We were so happy with our experience there. Food was delicious, the bustling atmosphere was never overwhelming or too loud. Instead, it was a blend of comfort and class, and our service was polite, fast, wonderful, really on all fronts. I am extremely happy with our first visit and have already decided to make it a birthday tradition! We thoroughly enjoyed the calamari appetizer. The seafood pastas were excellent, and the desert was a must. Absolutely a must visit in downtown Saint John! Get a reservation though because this is a popular spot!

I went back to this restaurant after 6 months. First of all, they had added a partition between the two sections of the restaurant, which was great. The portion size and quality of the food had really improved, and it was absolutely delicious 😋. I even thought maybe a new and amazing chef had joined, because in the past, both the quality and portion sizes were poor. But now, some amazing changes had taken place! A waiter named Michael served us—he was polite, exceptional, and had a friendly, warm attitude. This restaurant is now back on my list of regular places to go!🥳😋😋

Booked a reservation for 3 to celebrate my partner's birthday. It was myself, my partner and our 8 yr old. The service was lovely, Shannon was attentive, informative and kind. It was a busy night but with the service we got, we could have been the only ones there. Really special. The food was absolutely INCREDIBLE from my kiddo's pizza to the scallops on my penne. Try the polenta if you love yourself. Can't wait to go back again for another special occasion or fancy date night!

Nice Italian restaurant downtown. Reservations recommended. The food was good but not perfect. Had the Ceasar salad to start: The croutons were stale, the salad dressing was good. The chicken Parmigiana itself was very good but the pasta was bland and unseasoned. Please note that it's a bechamel sauce on the chicken not tomato. The pizza is good but not $21 good. The Gin Fizz was very gin forward. The server was great and they bring you a hot towel for your hands. There was a bit of a wait for my table despite being early and having a reservation. Parking can be difficult but there's a paid parking complex nearby.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. Jesse took great care of us at the bar, we really appreciated his wine recommendation, and the food was delicious.

Exceptional service — Cole made our evening unforgettable! We had dinner at Italian By Night in Saint John, and while the food was excellent, the true highlight of our night was our incredible server, Cole. Cole provided some of the best service we’ve ever experienced — warm, professional, and incredibly attentive. From bringing us warm towels at just the right time, to changing our plates and cutlery between courses without us even asking, to thoughtfully recommending the perfect wine and cocktail to pair with our meal, he made every detail feel personal and polished. The food itself was wonderful — we enjoyed the Polpetti, Hawaiana and Roma pizzas, the Scoglio seafood pasta (a standout!), and cocktails like the Foghorn and Aperol Spritz. Everything was flavorful and beautifully prepared. But truly, Cole elevated the whole experience to a different level. He made us feel so well taken care of — like VIPs — without being overbearing. Service like his is rare, and absolutely worth recognizing. If you’re dining here, I hope you get Cole. We’ll definitely be back — because of him! Grazie, Cole!

Food, service and atmosphere were excellent. It was difficult to choose what to order because everything sounded amazing. We got the arancini, calamari, linguine and roma pizza . Everything was seasoned well, and portion sizes were perfect. We had two tasty cocktails and a bottle of wine that was on special for the night and it was perfect. Loved the warm towels at the beginning of the meal, very nice touch . Fantastic night over all, thank you !

The food at Italian by Night is outstanding. We were very happy with each and every course that we ordered. Our server was Cole. He was very attentive, we never had to look for him he was always there. A real customer service professional! The rest of the staff was also very helpful above and beyond our expectations. It made for a very satisfying date night for my wife and I. The room was tastefully decorated and the lighting was fittingly subdued for a romantic dinner. Overall the ambiance was excellent. We loved it and it will be on our list of "go to places" in Saint John.

We had an amazing dinner of lemon chicken piccata salad, and lasagna bolognese. Absolutely delicious! My wife enjoyed a glass of prosecco, while I had a tasty beer. Bartender/waiter Rob took great care of us, as well as co-owner Elizabeth. Highly recommended. Beautiful restaurant. We were visiting NB and this was a memorable dinner!

This is the best place in St. John. We went twice because it was so good. We ate at the bar both times and the bartenders were wonderful. Highly recommend.

Ambiance: Very romantic, with dim, soft lighting (but not too dark). A bit on the loud side, with the industrial motif from the former factory heritage, but that also added some nice character. Service: Just short of the right amount of attentive, but not slacking either, generally good, and certainly friendly and professional. Food: Absolutely fresh and delicious. Not quite the best I've ever had (two places are in front) but definitely in the top 5 for Italian, and I've had quite a bit of Italian.

Amazing service and good. It was for a birthday and we had a private area, our waitress was excellent, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. A 5 * restaurant.

First of all the place has really nice decor and the staff was very welcoming and the service was really top tier! But the food was next level! I read over the menu tonight while visiting from out of town with some dear friends and honestly was having the hardest time deciding. I really wanted a pizza that are hand formed and dressed with house made ingredients, but I also wanted a seafood spaghetti dish that sounded really awesome but I couldn't decide. So I asked our server if I could have the seafood dish as a pizza instead of spaghetti and she said she would ask the chef. A minute later the chef approached the table and said that she probably could do it but the oven would destroy the scallops and shrimp and made some delightful recommendations of the house made fennel sausage on white sauce pizza with the scallops and shrimp cooked in garlic in a pan and then added to the pizza as it came out of the oven. "Brilliant" I thought and said yes to her amazing suggestions. In just a little while, chef delivered her masterpiece to the table and just look at the pic! This is a creation to behold! This is culinary art at its finest to look at and to taste?! Truly delicious and amazing. The scallops were like tiny white tender and sweet, perfectly cooked meat cookies, paired with shrimp and sausage and mozzarella cheese on a rich and creamy white sauce topped hand thrown pizza. I'd like to tell you that this dish, this chef, this atmosphere and this place has gotten me excited to find and post about amazing places after a couple years of silence! Thank you St John, thank you Executive Chef, Michelle Hooton and thanks to the wonderful staff and friends who made the experience totally rich! I got a Custom made seafood sausage pizza to DIE FOR! But Executive Chef, Michelle Hooton said this won't happen every time...but have her recommend your next new favorite dish! I hope to come back!

We had a delicious meal with local tomato's in a caprese salad, followed by a hearty lasagna and seafood filled scoglio. Good atmosphere and friendly service

My partner and I came here for a date night while we were visiting from Ontario. It was recommended by a friend in New Brunswick. I love the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant. It was great for a date night, but would also be good for a casual dinner, drinks with friends or colleagues, a family celebration. The service was outstanding. Our server was friendly and attentive. We had the calamari and bruschetta to start. Then we shared the risotto and sausage. We ended with an espresso and creme brule. The portions were perfect. We were full but not busting at the seams when we were done. It's a great location in uptown Saint John. We had a nice walk around the neighbourhood to work off our meal afterward.

Have you ever been on vacation and visited a restaurant so good you'd think about moving to that town? This is that place. From great cocktails and an excellent wine list to spectacular appetizers - every thing we ordered was a delight. The arancini that began our meal set a very high bar but everything else was just as tasty. Waitstaff was every bit as good as the food. It was a Tuesday night on a sleepy block of shops but this place was hopping. Wishing we could have sampled the entire menu.

Very perfect Italian food and especially the seafood from Bay of Fundy. I like the dessert. It tastes like ice cream but I know it is not ice cream.

Service was just the right level of attentiveness and the decor was fun with a mix match of tablecloth and paper and different kinda of chairs. The pizza crust was thin and crispy and not made soggy by the toppings. Beet salad was yummy. The risotto was a bit salty for my taste. The noise level was quite high at the start of our meal, but leveled off toward dessert and we were able to hear the nice music in the background. The pavlova was tasty with a lovely fall orange curd but did not have a nice crunchy outer shell.

Food is so good, server was polite and helpful, and the restaurant itself was quiet enough to have a conversation. I had the gnocchi which was amazing, and shared the variety appetizer which was quite good.

Delicious food, attentive staff, upscale environment, good selection of beverages, great place for a special night out. The staff is quite attentive, even when the place is bustling with customers. They tend to be very friendly and accommodating. The menu has a good variety of flavorful food as long as you don't mind a heavy hand with the salt. Unfortunately, the pizza was basically inedible because the exterior of the crust had salt added as well, but the rest of the food was great, even though it was also even more salty than most places. The flavour combinations of each dish is inventive and enjoyable. The appetizers are just as good as the entrees and can even be sufficient as your entree if you like. There are several tables right in front of the full windows with a nice street view. The full bar is nice with a good amount of seating too. There is a private room in the back that can accommodate up to twenty people for meetings, which is recommended for large groups since the dining area can get pretty loud.

What a fantastic restaurant! Had a great martini, dinner, and dessert here last night. My spouse had the greatest calzone of their life. It was unlike any pizza joint calzone -- it was definitely a thoughtful, upscale version. I had salmon, which was delicious. For dessert, we had crème brûlée and the pavlova. Okay, let me say, I've made pavlova several times and rarely order it out because I've had some misses in the past. Pavlova should be crisp on the outside and chewy inside. When it's not, it's disappointing. This was the best -- sour rhubarb inside the chewy center and sweet strawberries on top of the crisp exterior. What a genius idea of contrasts and complements! Please go to this restaurant and try some of their delights.

We dined here while visiting St John. We called mid-afternoon on the day we wanted to go and we were able to get a reservation. The restaurant is clean, had a nice atmosphere, lovely artwork and soft music playing. The staff was very nice. For appetizers we ordered arancini and meatballs. Some of the best we have had! We both ordered specials-fresh ravioli stuffed with beef tenderloin and caramelized onions and the beef tenderloin with bacon/mascarpone mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. Both were delicious! If we should visit St John again, we will return!

Amazing food! Amazing service! Can show up casual and still feel very classy! I highly recommend giving Italian a shot in Saint John; this place is worth it. The Scoglio was amazing and my wife had the veganese penne which was equally amazing. I prepare alot of vegan pastas and this one had an amazing "meaty" feeling like no other vegan pasta dish I have tried in a restaurant.

Came here with some friends and had the best time. The space is large and open but seemed intimate at the same time. And it smelled Italian as soon as you opened the door. Firstly, our waiter was perfect, knowledgeable, attentive and also left us alone! We had cocktails and wine. Cava was dry, how I like it. And a delicious Spanish Tempranillo recc by our waiter. It was perfect and didn't break the bank. We liked it so much we bought some the next day at NBLC. We shared several appetisers including the meatballs, the calamari fritti, and the octopus which was sous vide and then grilled. OMG people! So tender and charred, served on a schmear of hummus. We shared the Scoglio which was a pasta and fresh seafood, the veal scallopini, the ravioli. Certainly no complaints! Even the bread was delicious! Dessert was tiramisu and Affogato. If you've never had that before, like our dining companions, you will be blown away We will def be back.

I really wanted to like this place but was just not impressed . We came at 8:45 on a Friday and it was veryyyyy loud due to the bar underneath. You could feel the vibrations where we were sitting. On top of that, the food was ok, wasn't amazing. Overall just not a great experience

Looked forward to this meal for a long time and was not disappointed. The flavor was excellent in both dishes. Presentation and service was impeccable. Thoroughly enjoyed and will make this a favorite Italian spot when in SJ.

I'm a foodie and I'm picky with my italian food. This place wowed me. The service was impeccable, the warm towel when you get there is a lovely touch. The lasagna was perfection. The offered prosecco and strawberry on the house for our anniversary. I couldn't be more pleased with our dinner at Italian by night. The decor is beautiful, romantic, the waiter was polite and attentive. Everything was perfect!

Excellent food, service and atmosphere ! Interesting layout. Very clean. Spotless Windows. Even a fun crowd. Easy to get to, clean restroom. What a treat!

At another restaurant we had mediocre food the previous night and was looking for something to reset our vacation experience. We picked well. This restaurant is a true gem and we were lucky to get our reservations. The place was packed, so I would encourage just dropping in. The seating is spacious and you feel like you are in a very intimate setting though there are many diners. They had coat hooks next to our table so we could sit comfortably. Danielle was our server and we hit the jackpot. She was personable yet professional. Knowledgeable yet down to earth. We know she had several tables but she managed to make us feel like we were her only customers. We ordered bruschetta and our server said that it comes in servings for 3, but because we had 4, she would add an extra. I'm used to small toasts. No. This was a big piece of grilled bread heaped with fresh tomatoes and herbs. I am a risotto fanatic and I knew what I wanted immediately. My daughter ordered spaghetti pomodoro. We split our dishes so we could have both. My serving was rich and huge and everyone at the table got a taste. The chicken was sliced and moist. We got plenty of protein. My husband got the fettuccine Alfredo. He's Italian and loved it. My daughter's boyfriend ordered the salmon. He asked me to taste the concoction underneath because he said it was to die for. I immediately recognized green peas and mint. He was floored BC he hates green peas. He's a new convert! We had no room for dessert after that beautifully prepared meal. I wish this restaurant was in my home town!

Came back to the area recently and had heard good things about this restaurant. Decided to try it last night and it did stand up to the praise it has been receiving. The food was very good. Good quality ingredients and well presented. However I have deducted one star for the end or not the end of meal service and not being informed of the cost of the "specials" which is why we found we had our purchased a $48 steak. The waitress handed us the bill without being requested then proceeded to bring the machine again without being asked. I sarcastically asked "so you want me to pay the bill" thinking she would realise her error only to be be told "yes I would". It was 45 minutes before their posted closing, so that should have been an issue. We paid, stayed and finished our wine and left 15 minutes later. We will return and hopefully we will not encounter this type of behaviour next time

Came here after a Yuk Yuks comedy show around 10pm on a Saturday night. Since the comedy show let out, a bunch of people made their way up to Italian by Night for some food and drinks. I was the first one through the door and waited at the host stand, as I assumed they were still serving. Many servers walked by me and the other standing at the host stand and did not say a word to us. They also watched us stand there from across the room and no one bothers to greet us or tell us the dinning room was closed. I finally approached one of the servers and said, "Is there a host? There is a line of us at the door" She got the host who seemed to be annoyed that we were there and not realizing they were closed. I told her, "Well the comedy show just let out and there's a lot of people looking to eat. Are you serving at the bar?" she said yes and a bunch of us (all different parties) ended up at the bar. (This is why they get 4 stars instead of 5). My date and I sat at the bar and were given a limited bar menu. Perfect for us as we were just looking for pizza. We ordered the truffle mushroom white pizza and some waters. The bartender (older female) was super nice and attentive even though we could tell she was very busy. She was very nice and my date's phone was dying and she even plugged it in behind the bar for him. The pizza came quickly and it was AMAZING. Seriously, get the truffle mushroom pizza. It's to die for. Sorry my pics are so bad, but it was very dim in there and I didn't want to set my pizza down to mess around with taking more pics. It was a thin crust pizza with truffle oil and small bits of black truffle, and mixed mushrooms. It came out pipping hot and the crust was not chewy and the pizza was not too oily. It seriously was perfect. The atmosphere was a tad loud (all the drinks from the comedy club were there) and the bar is sat right next to the door which is a weird concept, but in a way I liked it because it made it feel like its own restaurant and gave the dinning area more privacy. The decor is beautiful and they have this impressive family table with a massive metal chain as the feet of the table. My friend regrets that we did not get a pic of it to post here. Oh well, you will have to go check it out for yourself. Price wise, $20 seemed like a lot for that 10 inch pizza but it was so good and truffles are not cheap. I only wish I didn't have to share with my date ;) Overall - I realize they were slammed and not expecting a rush at 10pm, but the bartenders were on point and super amazing and the food was even better. I look forward to going back there and actually testing out some of the entrees and drink menu.

came here with friends. We had a really good dining experience. Servers were professional and friendly. Food was also really good. I got the calamari which was excellent. As well as one of the pizzas which was also quite good. Overall, definitely recommend this dining experience and I would go again for sure.

Stopped here for dinner earlier this week while on my honeymoon road trip through New England and Eastern Canada. This place was poppin' during mid-week and we failed to make reservations. I think it was extra busy due to the Chop Chop event going on in the city that week for the restaurants. We ate at the bar and were served by the bartender, Perry who was super personable and a fun guy. We got drinks and my husband ordered their Chop Chop menu and I got their dish of the day. I got a steak while he got a pork chop which both were huge and delicious. All the food was delicious. After we commented on the amazing quality of the meat we'd had in Canada that week, Perry informed us their meat was all organic and grass-fed which it basically the standard there. Not like in the US. Plus, they educate the staff of what is in each dish because of how many different dietary restrictions, sensitivities and allergies you have now when it comes to food. Extra props for those points! The bar company was great and they even gave us champagne on the house after they found out why 2 San Franciscans were road tripping in Canada in the fall. It was a great experience and eating at the bar was fun. We got to learn more about Saint John, the people that make up this port city, their traditions, outlook on life and how proud they are of their home. Special shout out to Perry and LeAnn for making our dinner an enjoyable, memorable experience!

While on vacation from Ontario... We we're staying with friends who have moved to the East Coast and thought an Italian Diner was a great idea from all of the sea food options. Fortunately for Us, we were able to get the last table as we didn't have a reservation. Our party of 4 landed a window seat and our server, he (Perry) was the entertainer making our experience more than Amazing. Decor was classy and not over crowded and not rushed. We started with the Bruschetta appetizer and glass of Red Wine! I had the Parmigiana Di Pollo!!!! BEST Parm I have ever eaten!!!!! Lasagna Grande was to die for as it was very flavourful! The Ravioli Del Giorno special was filling & Delish! The Salmone was not a disappointing dish either... for Dessert we had a dark chocolate cake drizzled with a raspberry sauce & whipped cream... YUM!!! as ALL plates were Almost licked clean...LOL! Definitely a restaurant you don't want to overlook in St. John's... NEVER experienced Perfection like this before at any other restaurant... from walking through the front door while exiting with a much satisfied full bellies and experience!!!! Thank you Perry Como!!!!! Lots of Luv from Charlie & his Angels!!!!!!

Second time in St John, but first time at IBN. Really nice place. A little upscale with people that are down to earth. I ordered an Osso Boucco which was properly cooked accompanied by potatoes presented in a special way. I recommend. You have a decent selection of wine by the glass. I finish with a cappucino accompanied by a limoncello. Wonderful. Judging by the crowed, it is a very popular spot.

The food was small serve but taste delicious. Place for couple and business. Hard to park though, cause it's at uptown. The service was great, also the atmosphere. It is expensive, but it's a nice choice to bring your girl there.

When we arrived, it looked very inviting and lively. Many patrons, so we assumed the food would be great. The food took quite a while to arrive. I had a seafood linguini (without sauce) I expected a creamy linguini sauce ($32). It sea food was ok, a lot of clams, 2 shrimp, a piece of salmon and 1 scallop! My wife ordered the most expensive steak ($48.00) I have ever seen on a menu ( Ive lived and eaten in many expensive restaurants in Montreal Toronto and all over the world.) It was supposed to be 10 onzes but looked like a 6 oz filet mignon. It was not worth the price. I had an Italian beer and my wife a Coors Light, this was a lot less than I expected at only $6.50 ea. Over all the meal was average for the final price of $120 including a 15% tip. Needless to say, I will not be back there again. Britts around the corner and at the golf course is a much better restaurant for food quality and value. They need to get some real Toronto or Montreal Italians to do a proper job of cooking Italian food.

I been wanting to try this restaurant for quite a while.went on Friday night Jan 17 was very disappointed with the restaurant.Upon arrival had to tell staff to clean snow from entrance and salt as was very slippery.Party of 8 arrive ar 5:15 pm. We ordered and wait 1 hr for meal.This is the first Italian restaurant I have ever been that did not put bread on the table.portions very small not worth the price we all stopped on way home to eat,food was not great ,water was terrible,they need to filter water,service was slow .Our server appeared to have to many tables to wait on. There are much better spots in Saint John to eat if you are going to spend $100.00 or more on a meal This was by far our worst night out in the city and will not return to this restaurant Fred Justason

Food was delicious portion sizes were small for the $$$$. A little pricey yet quality was fantastic. Lots of vegetarian options available, service was great.

We came here after receiving many amazing reviews from friends and co workers and we definitely agree with everyone that this place is spectacular! We arrived with no reservations on a busy Sat night and the hostess Elizabeth, pulled some magic and we are so grateful for finding us a spare table! So our first impression is that this restaurant is amazing! Our waitress Lydia was so friendly and helpful, again adding to the experience! The meal itself was delicious! We had the Spiedini sharing platter and my only qualms about this antipasti was that it was a sharing platter and yet all the items came in threes... I think maybe it should be equal amounts of four so the party sharing can eat have two. We also enjoyed the Brushetta Tre Modi and that again was delicious! I am a huge white bean fan so this made my night! Amazing spot for food and atmosphere and the service was actually amazing! Can't wait to go back for more!

This was my second visit to IBN and once again I was delighted by the service and the food. This time I enjoyed the meatballs, bruschetta, and the margarita pizza ! I went with a group of 10 people and everyone enjoyed their meal !

Dinner last night was a house special of wild haddock wrapped prosciutto accompanied by wilted spinach on homemade pasta with an incredible smooth tomato based sauce. Went back again tonight for dessert at the bar. Tiramisu with a Brazilian coffee from Mike. Recommend highly for both. Definite 5/5 stars!!!

Great service and the food was nothing short of amazing. The creme brûlée' is a definite recommendation.

The service at this restaurant never ceases to have me leaving feeling impressed and like I made a great decision to book a table here. Great selection of drinks, food and knowledgeable staff on site to help recommended which wine to go along with your dish. The atmosphere is always great and clean and friendly staff. I would absolutely recommended this place!

Wow is all I can say. Our server was phenomenal. She was attentive and totally aware and knowledgeable of my severe allergy to dairy. It was a beautiful stress free evening to celebrate our beautiful friends birthday. Thank you to Italian by Night for doing it right!!!!!

We walked in without reservations and were seated right away. The hostess was friendly, out going, enthusiastic, and provided great support for the wait staff. Our waitress was friendly and very efficient. We started with mussels which were delicious. My wife had the fish of the day and I had the fettuccine Alfredo con pollo. The fish was prepared perfectly according to my wife, and the Alfredo was creamy and the chicken was grilled to perfection; done but still moist. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

My husband and I dine here for my birthday this past week. We also came last year for the same occasion and liked it so much we decided to do it again. Perry was our sever the first visit and he was super friendly and efficient. Leanne was our server next visit and she was also friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. Fine dining at its best. Prices are on the expensive side but comparable to other fine dining experiences. My husband, who wears hearing aids, enjoyed the fact he could easily converse and enjoy the experience without the distraction of music blaring in the background. I love Italian cuisine but this time I tried the steak tenderloin and highly recommend it. Best steak I've had in a long time.
