Mehh.
We got there close to closing, sat at the bar which was fine, bartender was great, took our orders, food was quick.
The fried chicken sandwich was distinctly overcooked, visibly by my eye and in the eating, as reported the eater. So were my french fries. The fryer oil was definitely a little old, but that’s a different problem from food being overcooked.
I got the pulled pork barbecue sandwich, which was nothing even close to special. Rate it as fair, not good, it was really just tiny shreds of pork soaked in too much sauce, probably bottom of the pan given the hour but that’s no excuse for mediocrity, which it was.
What I also didn’t care for was the too small tray the sandwich and fries came in. I had to eat way too many fries before I could even pick the sandwich up without fries spilling into where the sandwich was so I could set it back down after taking a bite. That’s tough with pulled pork, which is a sloppy mess on a good day. It’s annoying presentation in the interest of trying to be cute, and I don’t need cute, I just want to eat my food in peace.
Their menu is kinda small, and could really use an update. But the beer is good and I like the place, just that the food is definitely lacking, and with the many options available in Ithaca, I think I’ll pass next time anybody says “You wanna go to Ithaca Beer Co for dinner?”
