"If bugs give you the creepy-crawlies, you'll want to skip this 3D show based on 'A Bug's Life.' Fans of the 1998 movie may enjoy seeing it come to life, but some kids might find this one a little dark and scary at times." - Travel + Leisure Editors

It was a fun & entertaining 3D show with visual and sensory effects. What's great is that it's only 8 minutes long, but seems longer. You're not really sacrificing a whole lot of time between your scheduled rides. It perhaps takes longer to get to the theater since you're walking along a trail deep into the root system of the Tree of Life. You can spot many animals carved into the roots as well as the tree. The theater is directly under it. The effects are really cool. It's amazing how the bugs fly right up to you. It feels like they are singling you out of the crowd. Well, that's because you're the human in their world. The sensory smell & touch elements add another dimension to the whole experience. It's so cool to see the tables turned, and the bugs trying to exterminate the humans. It certainly will make me think twice about swatting or spraying another bug. If you've seen "A Bug's Life" then you already know how tough it is to be a bug. See this animated attraction while you can. Before it's reimagined into what will soon be Zootopia.

A good fun 3 D show at Tree of life Repertory theatre. The passage for entry passes below the tree of life. You can see animal carvings and when you exit, you can take pictures of the tree.

Google
So much fun! I have sensory issues with some things being loud, 3d, and completely dark. But I was okay with this one! I didn't need to use the glasses to enjoy the show (i have migraines with those 3d glasses some times). It's not scary scary. But it's more of a fun scary situation. Super fun! Wasn't too loud that I needed to cover my ears. Wasn't too dark, I was able to see everything. I like the grasshopper puppet! Super cool! The end when the little bugs walk through is always funny to see who gets to feel them.

Google
Do not sit in the front row. Terrible view. This little show is fun but needs updating. Honestly love a bugs life but this show should probably be changed to a new show completely! I hope they change it but keep the bugs life theme because it goes so well with the surroundings. Definitely do this if you need a cool room to sit in for a few minutes to relax. At least you get good picture spots of the tree of life!

Google
I absolutely love this attraction! Great effects. Lots of fun. Also, there are always a small handful of young kids who have to be carried out screaming that you know are going to need therapy later. Two thumbs up!

Google
I have always enjoyed this show. It is fun for all ages. My 5 year old is a little leery of the noises but loves the show itself. As an adult I recommend this even for other adults as it's amusing and classic Disney. If you get a chance....go!

Google
This show admittedly has a special place in my heart. I have no idea what Disney was thinking when making this attraction, but I would not change a thing about this show at all! This was essentially the last piece of alien encounter at Magic Kingdom left. The special effects, the stink bug, the spiders, and it wouldn’t be a normal showing without crying children. The show is also a nice break from walking in the Florida heat, or just a break from rides in general. I’m sad to see this go, so hopefully Zootopia is good.

Google
One of our favorites at Animal Kingdom. A wonderful interactive show that not only makes you look like a bug, but feel like one too! With all of the surprises throughout this show, you are sure to be surprised and squirm a little afterward! You will definitely feel how it is indeed tough to be a bug!

Yelp
It's tough to be a bug is one of my favorite shows at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It is also one of the only shows that literally makes us laugh out loud each time. A park ticket is required to experience the show. It was announced recently that it will be refurbished and changed very soon. But if you are visiting soon, make sure to swing by and check it out. This is a 3-D show located inside the Tree of Life, which is that giant tree you can see from most places in the park. This show is themed after Bug's Life movie and includes all sorts of bugs from the movie. The walk into the actual theatre is extremely long, however you do get really good views of the tree and all of the carved animals that you can't see from the front. Once inside, you need to grab your 3-D glasses which are shaped like bug's eyes, and then wait in the preshow area. There are posters with bug themes and are actually pretty funny and quirky. Once inside there are numerous rows, please do not fight and push over a seat. It is a 3-D show so you can see everywhere. The show, I will say is not for everyone. It will get scary at times and its bugs. But for my wife and I, we start laughing quickly into the show starting. There are additional effects, not to spoil it, but after the first effect, it all breaks lose! This is when we start laughing as well as our friends. I feel bad for saying that but it's pure chaos- kids are screaming, adults don't know what's happening and for some reason we just start laughing. Again, it does get very scary, there is a part of the show, when it gets very dark, very loud, smoke and things drop from above you. If you truly need to leave, just make your way to the left and exit the theatre. I do really enjoy how Disney has made you feel like you are a part of the show, you are the size of the bugs, and they make you feel immersed. Another perk is that this show has very little wait times, it's air conditioned inside and I feel it's always a good time. Reminder, the 3-D glasses are optional to wear but make the show more enjoyable. Since this show is going away, I would say check it out if you can. It has been a classic staple at Animal Kingdom for many years and I am sad to see it go. Pay it a visit before you can't anymore.

Yelp
It's tough to be a bug is one of the funniest and scariest shows at Disney's Animal Kingdom. You need a park ticket to experience it and unfortunately it is not long for the world. It is scheduled to be refurbished and changed soon. But if you visit soon, I will say check it out. This is a 3-D show located inside the Tree of Life, the main icon of the park. This is a show based off the Bug's Life movie and is all about bugs. The walk into the actual theatre is so long! I cannot imagine being backed up in this line because it is LONG! You walk for what feels like forever. But you do get really good views of the tree and all of the carved animals that you can't see from the front. Once inside, the waiting area has some really cute posters with bug theme. They are cute and I recommend walking around looking at them. Once inside there are numerous rows, viewing is good anywhere, do not fight over a seat. It is a 3-D show so you can see everywhere. The show I have to say is not for everyone. It can get scary at times and its bugs. But for us, we start laughing quickly into the show starting. The show does have some additional effects, not to spoil it, but after the first effect, it all breaks lose! Kids are screaming, adults don't know what's happening and for some reason we just start laughing. I will say again, it can get very scary, there is a part of the show, when it gets very dark, very loud, smoke and things drop from above you. If you are truly needing to get out, just make your way to the left and exit the theatre. I do really enjoy how they make you feel a part of the show, you are the size of the bugs, and you really feel immersed. I also enjoy that this usually has very little wait times. It is air conditioned inside and we have actually gone multiple times to just be inside and cool off. You don't have to wear the 3-D glasses if you don't want to. Since this show is going away, I would say check it out if you can. It has been a classic staple at Animal Kingdom for many years and I am sad to see it go. Pay it a visit before you cant anymore. Check it out!

Yelp
CATCH BUG'S LIFE SHOW BEFORE IT IS SQUASHED It's Tough to be a Bug is a really fun 4D film with animatronics (Flik and Hopper). It is disappointing that Disney will be ending this show in a few weeks. It is impressive that the special effects still work - you really get wet from the squirts of "acid", you smell the stink bug, you are sprayed with bug spray and you feel the bugs scurrying under your seats. Intense Show Warning: Do any of us pay attention to warnings that a show might be too intense for young children? Well - I guess this show warranted the warning because at least two children started crying during our show.

Sofyan S.

Yelp
This is a 4d stage show with a combination of a 3d screen, some animatronics, and elements going towards you. Some interesting parts were when they made your seat vibrate to make it seem like a large bug was going underneath you and when spiders randomly dropped from the top. The theme is how we should get to know bugs and consider it them friends. A tip I have for this show is not to be too close to the front because the 3d screen won't focus properly and it might be tough to watch. Overall a fun show but could be a bit frightening to kids who are worried about bugs.

Monique W.

Yelp
It's tough to be a bug is one of my daughter's favorite non-ride theme attraction at Animal Kingdom. It's located at the Tree of Life, underneath it. As you walk to the It's a Tough to be a bug, you'll see the Tree of Life up-close! Inside the tree is a hidden theatre. The theatre looks pretty cool! It's like a underground cavern, with roots, leaves and other designs that makes it immersive! It's tough to be a bug is a 3D show. It opened when Animal Kingdom theme park opened. It's based on one of the original Disney-Pixar film called "A Bugs Life." It's Tough to be a bug is a fun family show! It's designed to be enjoyed by all guests. There are parts of the show that include some of the elements such as rain or theatrical lightning. The main show features Flik, the main character from the movie. You'll see a combinations of 3D through the classes, practical effects, and some animatronics. You'll also learn some educational facts about the roles that insects play in nature! The show wait time is typically short. I don't see it ever getting longer than 20+ minutes! If it's a hot day at Animal Kingdom, and you're looking to take a break, you should check out It's Tough To Be a Bug!

Joseph G.

Yelp
It's tough to be a bug is a 3d interactive attraction located under neath the very cool looking "tree of life" in Disney's animal kingdom park. Based off popular Pixar movie bugs this 3d show takes you throw a show that uses sounds, visual effects, smells and some neat tricks with your chair to draw you into the attraction or story. The attraction while aimed for a younger audience and has zero requirements can be frightening for little ones who scare easy. Features darkness and menacing looking bugs and might startle some younger kids. Overall we enjoy this attraction. It's right at then entrance of animal kingdom and very rarely has much of a wait so it's always the first thing we do and it always sets the tone for a fun afternoon or day at animal kingdom.

Brett J.

Yelp
A fun show for the whole family! Based on a Bugs Life the movie you get all of your senses involved in this show. It has some great special effects, some funny parts and even a bit of a jump for the younger ones. It is a fun show that I recommend as being good for all!! Even the line to get in has all kinds of carvings in the wood. If you have a long wait you can play what do you see... find all of the animals that you can. It actually occupied my boys for the whole time we waited.

Beth E.

Yelp
This is an oldie but goodie for me. It's located under the Tree of Life, so the walk to the entrance is interesting. There is hardly ever more than a 15 minute wait, probably because it is starting to get old and outdated. On this trip, we noticed the big grasshopper was gone, which was a bit disappointing. Otherwise, it's a fun ride, which at times could be a little scary for little kids.

Megan L.

Yelp
I'm so glad Disney World still has It's Tough to be a Bug. Disneyland got rid of theirs. It's always been one of my favorite shows ever since I was little. It is worth it and the line is never long for this show.

Jacky C.

Yelp
One of the popular shows to see at Animal Kingdom. It's located in the Tree of Life, so upon going through the entrance, be sure take your time and check out the Tree of Life up close. The show itself is 3D and there's a lot of other effects. You will get a little wet and get a whiff a smelly bug. There is a villain part so this may get scary for the kids, so be advised. At the end of the show, there's a little surprise as well.

Winny L.

Yelp
Always fun and never a long line here...don't forget your 3D glasses. Entertaining 3D show that lasts about 10 minutes... Good when you need to take a break and sit down from the heat. Educational show and good laughs and tests all your senses... The show is located in the Tree of Life - see how many animals you can find! Hey, if you don't like surprises: - Hold your nose when that stink bug releases LOL - Don't sit all the way back in the seat else you will feel the hornet sting and hear people scream and when the bugs run across the seats at the end of the show when you hear "excuse me" LOL No taking pictures during the show...it's 3D anyway!

Tammie R.

Yelp
Upon entering I noticed a sign, "This attraction may be frightening for children". "Frightening for children?" I asked in disbelief. My bf teased and overemphasized, "Oh yeah, it's horrifying for kids! They poke you, swat you, spray you, and wasps sting you!" "Yeah right, sure ..." Well, I was amazed and impressed! All those things happened and more. It was even a complete surprise as I had beatles, magnets, and cockroaches, crawling under my seat! I know it sounds horrid, but truly it was a fun 4-D show with an entertaining storyline. I did see children of all ages at the show. There were a few screams (even from adults), but there was no crying. =p I already gave away too much and don't want to spoil it more with other specifics! Make sure and check this place out. Especially if you're looking for some relief from the sun, it has air conditioning!

Matt F.

Yelp
Fun, entertaining 4D experience. This one looks old, but still an entertaining 4D show. With Bug Land eliminated from Disneyland, all that remains (that I know of) of Bug's Life is this 4D show. This is located under the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom at Disney World. It looks as old as the movie, but the animatronics and basic format is still good considering. Plenty of people saying they should retire this one, but glad it wasn't since it was my first time here. There are other rides and such that are older that could or should certainly go before this one - but only my opinion. Even if you're not a fan, it's a nice air conditioned break from the heat. They give you the glasses upon entering. I'm not a fan of how they bottleneck everyone inside and try to crowd as many people together - especially when not everyone believes in bathing, but it's a small issue really. Movie lasts less than 10 minutes. There's some things you'll feel in the seat during. I don't want to reveal anything to spoil it for anyone who hasn't been on this. I wouldn't wait an hour for this one and it should be low on the priority list of things to do at Animal Kingdom - or if you really want to take a break and cool off. Worth doing at least once for sure.

Steff A.

Yelp
This is a 4D film of what it's like to be a bug. The show plays to your visual (via 3D glasses), smell, and touch senses throughout the show. The theater gets really dark so if you have children who are afraid of the dark and loud noises, please be cautious as it might be overwhelming. The cartoon film itself is definitely catered to the kids and is pretty entertaining for the adults as well. It's not really 'scary' but dd in the surprising screams of when the audience feels it's being touched by 'cockroaches, or getting hit with air, wind and smells throughout the show and I can see how young kids can get terrified quickly. We were able to walk right in with no issues by checking the wait time on the Disney App. It's definitely something to check out once but I wouldn't wait over an hour for the experience. Good Luck!

May A.

Yelp
Animal Kingdom (Orlando) DISCOVERY ISLAND While this is no longer an attraction at Disney's California Adventure this 3D attraction continues to entertain guests here in Animal Kingdom (Orlando). Fun and entertaining 3D film inspired by the Disney Pixar film, "A Bug's Life." This attraction may be frightening for some little kids because it's 3D and you've got these bugs coming at you. I mean, my 17-yr old until this day is scared of bugs so the fear is real. LoL! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We went on this attraction because there was only a 10-min stand-by wait. It was our first for the day. The film is about 9-mins long. The film uses theater lighting, 3-D filming techniques (giant spiders dropped from the ceiling with giant glowing-eye spiders hovering over your head), audio-animatronics and various special effects (bug sprays, stinky smells, stings from a wasp, and seat movements). If you have little ones (or even big ones) who are afraid of the dark and loud noises, please be cautious as the surprises might be a bit overwhelming for them. But, heck, hubby and I enjoyed it! Flik (an ant from "A Bug's Life") is the host of the show and educates the audience on why bugs should be considered friends. This attraction is shown in a theater located at the base of the Tree of Life in Discovery Island. This Animal Kingdom show will make you laugh and make you scream. Review #1449

Cindy F.

Yelp
Fun family orientated 4D show, my kids were very entertained. This show was very cute, and the theater was cool which helped. My kids loved watching the show and learning more about bugs. I'd definitely recommend stopping in for a viewing if you are in the park. The show was very cute.

Lorie L.

Yelp
This is a cute 3D experience about bugs and how humans under appreciate them. All ages will laugh a couple of times at the jokes and appreciate the smells piped in. A couple of surprises are tossed in when hornets attack the audience and bugs leave the auditorium at the end of the show. There's plenty of seats in the theater so resist the urge to crowd near the doors. The crowd is asked to move to the end of the row so if you want seats in the middle, hold back a bit and let others go first. If your kids enjoy the show, find the movie "A Bug's Life".

Sarah S.

Yelp
Not gonna lie, It's Tough to Be a Bug could use some freshening up. However I always LOVE watching this show. I like the show itself, enjoy the feels, sounds, smells, everything. However more funny than the actual show for me, is the audience. My friend and I always wait for the moment when creepy crawlies invade the theater and children start screaming in terror then cry the entire rest of the show! Parents, please heed the cautions! This show can be very frightening for children. This show is just 9 minutes and usually has no wait to get into the theater. Once you get inside the Tree of Life, you usually have to wait about 10 minutes before being let into the theater. Look around while you're waiting to get in as the buggy movie posters are adorable! Once you're in though, I don't think there's a bad seat in the house! This attraction has been open since 1998 in Animal Kingdom! As a strange fact, the attraction actually opened 6 months prior to the movie hitting theaters. I love it's combination of a 4-D film and animatronics with Flik as the most adorable ant host. This is a fun watch if you're in the area and the wait is minimal. I wouldn't wait long for this or waste a Fastpass on it though. And please keep in mind - it can be loud, it's dark and a bit scary for wee ones.

Bess Z.

Yelp
Opinion of Show: - It's a 3D show catered to young kids, but could have easily been a 2D show. - It had some noteworthy special effects (which didn't require the 3D glasses). For most adults, they'll see it coming, but the kids will definitely get a kick out of it. - The theater itself wasn't the best either. It seems like no matter how good your glasses were, there's parts of the theater where the 3D images don't come through (which causes headaches). If you can, try to sit towards the rows in the back. Fast Pass (FP+) or Not: - Not worth it at all. This is the only attraction where there's always FP+ available aka no one gets these. Wait Times: - The shows are every 10 minutes continuously (including Early Magic Hour), so wait times peaked at 20 minutes. - The Standby line isn't covered at all so when it's hot, even 5 minutes of wait time can be pretty unbearable.

Jeremy J.

Yelp
When we visited animal Kingdom last year we went to this attraction. We had a really good time it was a fun little 3-D movie type of thing that shot a lot of different animals and bugs and stuff at you and drop from the ceiling it was pretty cool it scared both my daughters because they weren't prepared for it but we all had a good time

Martine K.

Yelp
I am sure this attraction could be updated at this point but it is always a must do when in the Animal Kingdom. I still laugh even though I know what's coming. Plus as you enter the theater you get to wind around the tree of life and see all the animals carved into it. Go see Flick and friends.

Matthew L.

Yelp
It really is Tough To Be a Bug! But this is a classic show at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The show is so much fun. First, you have a wonderful walk into the Tree of Life. You walk by so many carvings of different animals and its a fun walk. I have walked through a lot and it seems like each time I see something new that I did not see before. Once inside the tree, it is air conditioned! I love sitting inside the tree waiting for the next show to begin because it is a break from the Florida heat. Inside the tree is where you also pick up your 3D glasses for the show. I do want to warn you, this show may not be for real young kids. There are some scenes that are scary, so for real little ones, this may be a show you skip. Once the show starts it is lead by Flick from a Bugs Life. Flick introduces the gang of bugs and each bug brings something new. The show ends with Hopper coming up and providing more of the scarier parts of the show. I don't want to ruin it, but again if you have little ones, be warned! Overall I love this show and would hate to ever see it go!

Samantha B.

Yelp
My favorite parts are the surprises and listening to people scream. It's very much a 4D ride but it looks like it may need to be updated as it's off in certain spots. Oh, and things WILL touch you. Kids may (and usually do) get scared. Fastpass gets you into the first few rows. There's a little plot showing you some fun stuff with the characters from A Bugs Life. It's a cute little show but it doesn't really feel like it's connected to the movie other than that it uses the same characters. You don't need to have seen the movie to appreciate this ride.

Kristi L.

Yelp
This is not typically an attraction I go out of my way to see, but it's fun to take someone who's never seen it before for the experience. It's been in the park for a while, so the wait time is never that high. Admittedly, I love the terror it inflicts on children. There are several shocking moments when all small children scream bloody murder, and I find it hilarious. They don't cry or anything, so I'm not too terrible of a person. But I am that person who adjusts how she sits so as to not be part of the surprising moments that make everyone scream. If you can get a fastpass for this one, even better. You can usually walk right in. Personally, I wouldn't care if they replaced this ride altogether, but it's still a quality experience for what it is.

Kara M.

Yelp
This was a cute attraction. This is a 3D film and not so much a ride. I had last been to the park fifteen years ago, but this flick seemed that it had not changed much over the years. I don't think I had ever seen A Bug's Life, but I still enjoyed this short film. A word of warning... This attraction might be too intense for some kids, especially if they are afraid of the dark or bugs. Giant bugs (spiders?) drop down from the ceiling at one point and the theater is very dark. Overall, this is nice and well done.

Aly W.

Yelp
Be advised: this 4D ride apparently includes old school zappers. There's a part (spoiler alert) when Hopper commands hornets to attack. I was worried we were about to get "stung." WE did not get stung. Only my son who's so terrified off stinging insects he flipped out any time he saw a bee or wasp during our trip got zapped. Figures. He spent the rest of the movie on my lap, sparing him the moment a roach ran under the seat (another effect.) That said, the show was better than expected. There's some cool special effects I didn't expect. Also, the movie posters outside the theatre are pretty cute, especially if you're a fan of puns. I hope the glasses get cleaned and reused. They must, given the park's emphasis on conservation and recycling.

Jeremy N.

Yelp
Experiencing this show twice in my life, it hasn't changed in the over 10 years between the two experiences, which is a great thing because this 3D show is incredibly realistic. Waiting in line to get inside the giant tree is even cool, because you get to see all the cool designs of animals on the tree up close! From the water that gets sprayed at you to simulate something coming from a bug, the fowl smelled pumped in from the stink bug, to the "stings" in the seat when the bees appear. I usually can't see 3D, but something is different about this show where I can see it and enjoy it! This show is great for kids but it's also great for adults too Whenever I go back to Disney, I would definitely make sure that I sit through this show.

Dianna B.

Yelp
In the base of the tree of life, is this darling show. A 4D attraction with a 3D movie, Disney really shines. Yes, some of the anamatronix are showing their age, but that happens. Flick is not as sharp as he used to be, his sound is a bit off with the motions of his mouth, but the spiders were spot on. The 3D that Disney Uses is Amazin, It really does look as though it's RIGHT in your face, that you can reach out and touch things. Sadly that lil butterfly can't come home with me *sad face* The 4D aspect comes with the water (and a lot of it) and the stink effect as well as the stingers and the seat effect *chuckles* All in all, it's a show that you really shouldn't miss.

Cynthia V.

Yelp
This 4D attraction is not my cup of tea. It is very short and ends in a pretty scary way for some kids - SPOILER ALERT - you get "stung" in the back during a dark sequence with hornets/wasps (the chair back basically pokes you a few times). Honestly, it is a little unsettling, even as an adult. Other than that, the movie is pretty cute and clever, but when compared to some of the other attractions in the parks, it is outdated and almost lame.

Yelp
This is always a fun one when in Animal Kingdom. I feel like A Bug's Life is such an underrated film, so it's nice to see this park offer something about it. For this attraction, you will go under the Tree of Life inside a theater, where the Bugs will put on a show. It is a 4D experience, so you will feel different things along with the show as well. I always HATE it when it feels like there's roaches everywhere, yet it cracks me up to see everyone starts screaming and jumping out of their seat. Especially when the spiders come down from the ceiling! A tad bit dated in some ways, but it's still a great ride and one you should definitely do when you're in Animal Kingdom.

Yelp
This is a fun show with some fun surprises. We have young kids and I don't think any of them were scared. There's not a long wait time. I recommend using this an an opportunity to rest and cool off mid-day when you need a break from the heat.

Yelp
I enjoyed this movie, I was a fan of a Bug's Life so this was based off that movie. The wait for this movie is short compared to a lot of other things in the park. It's cute for kids and it's 4D so they get you on a few things, smells and touch.

Yelp
The show was superb. I absolutely loved it and the effects. But I cannot post a review without talking about the person who gave the intro. My group and I all agreed he did a fantastic job getting the group hyped up for the show. You can feel the passion in his voice. Later in the day I was walking by and I saw him so I had tell him how great of a job he did. Great job Disney and Mukesh!!

Yelp
I think this show is so cute. There's never a wait so its a nice cool place to relax for a bit and watch a fun 3D show about bugs. As with all Disney 3D shows, they love to do little special effects to really get you "IN" the story and I enjoy that, even when its cheesy. Think bugs crawling and spitting on you. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Its adorable. Go. Get out of the heat and relax with these adorable bug friends. It's inside the tree which is cool too!

Yelp
Every time I come to the Animal Kingdom I make it a point to stop here. I thoroughly enjoy all the parody movie posters of the movies as you wait in line. They will definitely bring a smile to your face. I love the 3-D effects. The story is kind of cute. It seems to of been shortened a little bit. I also remember at the end of the movie your ankles would be disturbed making believe the bugs are all going through the theater. Sad to see that this has been discontinued. Complaints? I thought it was a lot of fun. I always go here when I visit the Animal Kingdom.

Yelp
Love this 3D/4D show based on A Bug's Life. What makes it 4D is the fact they make you feel like you're actually in the movie by spraying water out at you, sending out a not so lovely smell, etc. Watch out for the dung beetle. The smell... WHOA! I always hold my breathe for about 30 seconds so I don't smell anything. LOL It really is bad! Whenever I've been here, I always see kids laughing and screaming, but I've never seen a child scared. I do want to warn you that even though the majority of children LOVE this and I highly recommend it, there are a couple of parts that may frighten your children. WARNING: THIS NEXT PART OF THE PARAGRAPH IS A SPOILER. DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT THE SPOILER! They have these rubber strips under the chairs and during a couple parts of the show, they pop out and start wiggling around your ankles. One part is when spiders drop from the ceiling. The spiders dropping in the dark may scare some children, but when the things start moving around their feet, it may potentially REALLY scare them. So, just wanted to warn you in case you have a sensitive young child. No one knows your child better than you, so you can make the call. SPOILER ALERT OVER. I love that this show is literally located underneath the Tree Of Life. It's really cool to know you're below that iconic tree. During the queue, you can see the animals carved in the walls just like you can on the tree. There are tons of photo ops in the queue, but the queue moves really, really quickly most of the time and you can actually hold up the line trying to take a pic of your little one next to one of the "animals." So be prepared and have your camera on and ready. The show lasts about 9 minutes and it's in the air conditioning. You're even in the air conditioning when you're waiting directly outside the theatre doors. It's a nice break from the FL heat. Because the theatre is nice and large, most of the time you only have to wait for the show inside you to finish. Sometimes you may have to wait for 2 shows to finish, but an 18 minute wait time (at most) really isn't that bad. Disney did a wonderful job designing this 3D/4D show and timing all the 4D movements with the 3D action. Don't miss this if you're at Disney's Animal Kingdom!

Yelp
Very cute short 3D film that's inside the tree of life. If there is a line you at least get to look at the tree. Inside they have all kinds of posters to look at. The film itself it interesting. Giant spiders fall from the ceiling, stink bombs erupt, and you can feel the "bee stings" in your chairs.

Yelp
This is an "interactive theater" show very reminiscent of the Muppet Vision 3D show at Hollywood Studios and the late "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" show that used to be at Magic Kingdom. This show is located at the base of the massive banyan tree at the center of Animal Kingdom and features most of the cast of "A Bug's Life" performing a variety-style show for guests of the park. The show requires 3D glasses and includes a variety of "gags" supplementing the show such as water sprinkles and blasts of air to add to the effects in the movie. It's a cute show that feels more dated than nostalgic for some reason, and includes a handful of things that were scary for my 4 year old, like (fake) spiders dropping from the ceiling at one point and mild poking from the theater benches to make it feel like there were actual bugs in the theater as well.

Yelp
My favorite experience in Animal Kingdom. Yes, my favorite and my favorite 3-D show of all time. They actually put a lot of effort into this one and it shows. It's your typical Disney 3-D show. Things fly at you and they shoot air and water at you during the show and you'll get many gets screaming and crying because of it. However, this one had something special about it. It was zesty and spicy and really had heart and soul. The entire time I was entertained and felt like I was 6 years old again discovering new things for the first time. It's one of the shorter 3-D shows in Disney World, but what it lack in time it makes up in quality. Thumbs up. Way up.

Yelp
I always seem to brush past this attraction when I visit Animal Kingdom but I recently visited it again and my opinion of it has changed for the better. The queue line weaves around and through the tree of life which is great for little kids to be able to pick out the animals carved along it. The show is in the base of the tree and you're given 3D glasses. The show is led by Flik from A Bug's Life and he introduces you to a variety of bugs and their special talents. While the show is 3D, there are a variety of 4D experiences. The show has animatronics, water splashed at you, gross smells and your seat even stings you in the back (I still hate that part). Compared to other 3D shows at Disney, this one is top notch! It doesn't hurt that the line is never very long. I do think the staff needs to do a better job of assisting handicap families. They cram so many people into the lobby prior to the show. The girl at the entrance who had the pleasure of the microphone could not control the room and had great difficulty moving people further in. After literally yelling at families, she gave up. Another attendant directs wheelchairs and ECVs to one door but only one family member in the party can stay with them. There's no clear direction for the rest of the family-where to meet your family inside the theater, etc. All the theater doors open at the same time and madness descends with families scrambling for the best seat. Handicap guests are walked to their section which is roped off causing more confusion for the waiting family who can't get to the handicap section. I eventually dropped the rope and sat with my family. It was very unorganized.

Yelp
It's Tough To Be a Bug is a fun, family friendly 3-D movie. If you have young kids they are likely to love it. Hell, I am an old fuddy duddy and I liked it. The entrance to this show leads you through a maze of bug tunnels. At least that's what I believe the designers intended the layout to look like. Once inside of the entrance it felt as if we were underground while we awaited entrance into the theater. Before entering we were given very cool looking bug vision glasses. They were traditional 3-D glasses, but with a bug like touch. I wish I had kept a pair as I think they would be pretty stylish around town. The show involves many bug characters with typical Disney 4D action. There are times where bugs shoot acid (water) at you, hurl giant objects at you and even flutter in front of you. The action sequences are timed perfectly where you actually feel like you're part of the show and the bugs you see in front of you are actually there. One of my favorite parts of this show, and shows like it, is to watch my children reaching out in front of them to touch the bugs. It gave me great pleasure seeing the fascination on their faces when they tried figuring how it all worked. There is a surprise at the end that I won't ruin, but lets just say that a lot of people scream. Don't worry it isn't scary, but it will get your attention. If you are a fan of 3D and 4D shows, I encourage you to check this one out.

Yelp
This is fun to watch exactly this number of times: One (1). After that, you'll be putting your hand behind your back and feeling for the hole in your seat. It's not as dirty as it sounds! It runs every 10 minutes! No more spoilers here. Enjoy!

Yelp
I don't do this show every time we are at Animal Kingdom, but certainly every other visit. It is fun, from the outer queue line where you get a close look at the intricate artwork of the Tree of Life to the inner queue with the posters and PA announcements that are written as we the incoming audience are all bugs. The show itself is also fun, with 3D effects and surprises for your other senses. As others have said, it is not worth a Fast Pass or a long wait, but catch it when the Stand-by lines are short.

Yelp
This is a 4-d show. (I think that's what its called) Everyone gets 3D glasses. Once again there are a few surprises all the way to the end. The kids laughed and jumped and a few screams. There were little kids crying but I cant remember what caused that.

Yelp
I'm shocked this show gets such good reviews. It was an opportunity to put together a really sweet and moderately educational show about bugs, but they totally couldn't decide what they wanted to be. If you hate bugs, this will certainly not change your mind, if you are a small child and are still deciding you are likely to leave scarred for life, like the poor three year old behind us who screamed through the whole show. My kids love bugs so they weren't scared and did enjoy it, but not half as much as they enjoyed some of the other shows at Disney. I guess there's a reason it's the least popular attraction in Animal Kingdom, but I think they could have made it really, really great with someone who actually loves bugs and wants to convey that to the audience as the author, instead of someone clearly going for cheap thrills.

Yelp
It's Tough to Be a Bug! is a 9-minute long 3-D film based on the DisneyPixar film, A Bug's Life. The film, created by Rhythm and Hues Studios, is the main component of a theme park attraction at several Walt Disney theme parks. Using theater lighting, 3-D filming techniques, audio-animatronics and various special effects, the show gives the audience an idea of what it would be like to be an insect. Flik, from A Bug's Life, hosts the show and educates the viewer on why bugs shouldn't be seen as pests, but more as friends. The attraction opened in Disney's Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort on April 22, 1998, a full seven months before the actual feature debuted in theaters. It has since opened at Disney California Adventure Park on February 8, 2001.

Yelp
this attraction is super cute! It's inside of the tree of life, it is air-conditioned, and it is in 3-D. If a really cool concept to have bugs as the story the show. There are a lot of dramatics in the show. So, there is smoke, there are smells, and there are also some tingling sensations that you me feel during the show. I'm not exactly sure how all of this is pulled off, but it really has a great effect. It really is a fun attraction

Yelp
One of the most memorable shows Disney has put together. One of our children's favourite in Disneyland and one of their favourites in Disney World. Has a bit of funny, scary, and excitement all in one experience. This show sure knows how to bring out the fear in kids with bugs, but it's more about the element of surprise rather then a "Boo" type of scary. You're kids will truly love this show, that's why out of all the shows in Disney, this one seems to stay with them for years. Special 3D effects, interactive, elements of surprise, and full of cool moving parts. A most see at Disneys Animal Kingdom.
