Been here a few times, a bit pricy and busy, but I loved everything I tried (this place converted me to takoyaki). My favorite rolls were the Firebird and Geisha.

Best sushi I’ve had in Utah! Their menu provides a broad selection making it easy for everyone to find something suited for their liking. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting and the service staff are top-tier. I tried a variety of different rolls (everything looked so good!). I must’ve surprised them with how many I ordered because the sushi chef brought out a complementary “Caribbean” roll! It complemented the array of flavors we ordered, it ended up being my favorite one of our dinner! Needless to say, i’ll be looking forward to my next visit to Itto. Thank you!

Food Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The sushi was an absolute 10/10 fresh, flavorful, and perfectly crafted. To top it off, the chef surprised us with a new dish to try (pictured above), and it was truly amazing! A beautiful mix of fresh tuna, avocado, and crisp greens with just the right kick of seasoning. The presentation was stunning, and every bite was full of bold, balanced flavor. Huge shoutout to the chef for the thoughtful gesture and for making our experience unforgettable.

I came for the Wednesday night happy hour (I believe it's Wednesdays AND Thursdays) and had my taste buds blown! The prices were phenomenal, and I was able to try a unique type of nigiri (tara) that I haven't seen at any other stateside sushi restaurant before! (It's my new favorite, so be warned that it's melt-in-your-mouth amazing!) My one and only complaint is that I am not local to SLC, so I'll have to take another 3 hour flight back here in order to experience this restaurant again. Will DEFINITELY come back the next time I'm in town! P.S. Please open a location in Austin, TX!

The sushi is amazing and super fresh! They have great lunch and happy hour specials and their prices overall are very fair for such good quality. Wonderful staff and their sushi chefs are amazing!

Google
We were looking for sushi in SLC and found that this place was awarded the best sushi in SLC in 2022! Service was quick and friendly. The interior is cute and casual. For food, we had miso soup, Romeo and Juliet roll, Las Vegas roll, Hokkaido roll, and the aburi stairs to heaven. The miso soup was very good, usually that’s how we can tell the sushi is solid. The Romeo and Juliet was an interesting concept, although I’m not sure coconut shrimp works for me in sushi. Las Vegas roll was a standard fried roll, but it kept falling apart as we ate it. The Hokkaido roll had a nice torched flavor. The Aburi stairs to heaven was the highlight for me - each piece of nigiri was very flavorful. Would considering coming back to try other rolls

Google
This sushi spot is easily one of the best I've visited! I highly recommend the Omakase Sashimi Teishoku (DIY); the sushi is unbelievably fresh. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the great staff and the phenomenal chef!!

Google
Great food for amazing price. Pretty hard to beat. Always home here when I'm in town. I got the Omakase. It was delicious but I wish they gave me sushi rice to make the rolls instead of regular white rice.

Google
A-mazimg!! Wow, what great service! Order the Omakase Sashimi Teishoku, you will not be disappointed. The chef brings it to your table and tells you about all the unique fish. Also the Osaka roll is not to be missed. We enjoyed the chill vibe!

Yelp
No amount of words can express the service, experience and quality of the food provided to us during our visit tonight. The waitstaff was amazing and the chefs provided an amazing experience unlike anything I've experienced in my home state. Certainly a must visit if you enjoy sushi and are in the area.

Yelp
I completely see the merit of the banner outside saying it's the best-rated of SLC. We are from Los Angeles, and made a road trip that included SLC. Sushi is our number one go-to food, so when I additionally heard about it from a few locals, we had to try it. First, when you walk in, the restaurant is completely unsuspecting. You would never know from its casual interior that the sushi would blow your mind, at least, for us. The menu contains information that indicates how they source their fish. Everything is flown in fresh every day. The service is remarkable. Our server was kind and friendly, but the sushi chef personally came to our table a few times to see if we liked everything, even bringing us a few special dishes/creations. I like to think we are sushi 'connossieurs'. Whatever you have on the menu that's different or special, bring it. We'll try it. We only like to eat sashimi or nigiri - no rolls for us, pretty much ever. Every single nigiri we got was extremely delicious, among them being toro, red snapper, halibut, Japanese uni (sea urchin), ikura, eel, salmon belly, scallop, bluefin tuna. I forgot to ask what the soy sauce brand was - the meal even included a Japanese-sourced soy sauce, pickled and REAL wasabi - not that disgusting green horseradish paste you get that everyone knows. We asked to bring us something out of the ordinary, there was even a shooter that featured sea urchin and ikura. What's more shocking to us, you could pay way more for some rolls, or go to a sub-par sushi restaurant where even the tuna and salmon are a sad sight to see, and the highlight are some California rolls or bento boxes. This place is not to be missed. Do not be deterred by its casual appearance - the sushi should be sure to impress the snobs of even Nobu from LA. What's more, is the people here are extremely kind and friendly - the sushi chef was even telling us how good his brother's restaurant was - another Itto location in the surrounding area that serves omakase (this one does too, just have to make reservations). We love Itto Sushi, and will look forward to the next time we visit SLC - it will surely be on our list. Thank you for a great experience !

Yelp
If you enjoy fresh & unique sushi, you must come here! I've been several times and not once have I had a bad experience. Quality and consistency should be included in their title. If you're looking for fun, order the Dracula roll or my personal favorite is the Lion King. So delicious! They're always friendly and we feel at "home" when visiting this establishment. Great pricing for fresh fish. This location is seated on Broadway with perfect window seats for people watching, or cozy quiet seating in the back. Great to visit day or evening, highly recommend.

Yelp
I found a Groupon for this place so my husband and I tried it out for dinner one night a few weeks ago. It's very hole in the wall place off of Broadway; a kind of no-nonsense type of restaurant; straight to the point - Sushi! The owner gave a history of how Itto Sushi started and how it's grown over the years. The staff was nice. I loved the different language(s) I was hearing around from the staff. I just wish I knew more languages! Now to the most important part... the Sushi! It was so good! I even tried the one with rice paper (the larger round ones in the pictures), and it was surprisingly tasty! I was silly and bought 3 Groupons that night instead of 1, so we'll be back in, and I'm not upset about it! :)

Yelp
We were craving some sushi, so we came back to this place to try more of their rolls. I tried Godzilla and Titanic. Wow, they were really good and willing to come back and try the rest. One thing that sucks about this place is the customer service. They're terrible, but hopefully they're not like that at the other locations they have.

Yelp
This place isn't bad! My husband and I left satisfied, but not necessarily that impressed. Our hostess seated us at a table in the back since the tables up front were full. We didn't mind this because it felt like a more private dining experience. The tables in front seemed a little closer together. Our server was great! We didn't have any issues with the service here. Our food was served quicker than expected which was nice. The edamame was lightly salted and tasty! Exactly what we expected it to taste like. The gyozas were pretty soggy and immediately fell apart when you took a bite. We prefer crispier gyozas so we personally wouldn't order these again. Their miso soup was average; not the best we've had but certainly not the worst! My husband ordered two rolls: the Nagasaki roll and the Mafia specialty roll. The Nagasaki was his favorite of the two. He liked the Mafia roll, but it was in a clear wrap rather than a seaweed wrap, and my husband prefers seaweed wrapping. He said the sushi was definitely good, but nothing spectacular. I got the bento box special with beef teriyaki and tonkatsu. The tonkatsu was so delicious! It was my favorite item of the night for sure. The beef teriyaki was tasty, but a little too sweet for me. The gyozas that came with my bento box were actually crispy and tasted great! I wished my appetizer gyozas were also cooked this way. All in all, my husband and I enjoyed our meal here, and would come back again; just not very often as we weren't overly impressed.

Yelp
Really good Sushi for the price. Would recommend going for the happy hour pricing. Ordered 8 rolls and they were all good (I forgot all the names already sorry)

Sara R.

Yelp
Horrible sushi, extremely bland, absolutely not top quality and a VERY dirty place. Don't even look at your feet, I'm not sure they've ever mopped before. I don't know how they passed their cleanliness health check. Friendly waiter though

Yelp
Not gonna lie i was pretty skeptical about trying sushi in SLC , i mean the ocean is pretty far and all. Then i saw the cheaper prices for the nigiri and I was even more skeptical. But when the orders came out, i gotta admit i was pretty impressed. The fish quality was pretty good! I got the toro, salmon, smoked salmon and a few rolls. Friend got the curry and the the third guy got a bunch of yellowtail. We are all very surprised but in a good way. Definitely a great little sushi spot and with that price point definitely worth it.

Yelp
Expert and excellent. Many thanks to the staff here. Muy Bueno!! Found this place by accident and glad we did!

Yelp
Hard to find good sushi but Itto delivers! The Chirashi bowl was amazing! The sashimi was fresh and thickly sliced, music to my stomach. Highly recommended to order this for sashimi lover like yourself! The Udon Tempura was an interesting dish. It's awesome that it comes with a large plate of tempura but the udon soup base was sweet for some odd reason. Nothing to write home about and definitely would think twice about ordering udon next time. Restaurant decor is average at best. A couple of blocks walking distance from the Salt Palace Convention and you are there. Had dinner around 6ish and it wasn't busy at all. There's a large samurai mural but other than that, old restaurant tables and chairs. Waitress was attentive and friendly. Overall, definitely come back for sushi and Chirashi bowl again in downtown Salt Lake City but a hard pass on Udon in general.

Yelp
No Exaggeration, You're Better Off Getting Sushi From the Grocery Store My experience at Itto Sushi today was profoundly disappointing, from the moment my friend and I entered. The initial reception was indifferent at best, though we were seated promptly. Unfortunately, the lackluster service persisted, highlighted by our having to request water and the considerable delay in receiving half our order. My friend opted for the bento box, which arrived in a timely manner, albeit as the sole highlight of our visit. The teriyaki chicken lacked any semblance of teriyaki flavor and presented poorly. The gyoza had an off-putting taste from the first bite, while the salad's dressing bore an unsettling resemblance to apple sauce. The crunchy California roll, was a letdown with its use of over-hydrated white rice instead of sushi rice, further marred by an excessive topping of "crunchy" bits. My friend found most of her meal inedible. As for my order, the house nigiri combo, it tested my patience and appetite, arriving well after my friend had finished her meal. Among the six pieces of nigiri, one was as chewy as gristle on a steak, another had a suspicious smell suggesting it was past its prime, and all were served on overcooked white rice, detracting from the overall quality. This was a lunch that fell dramatically short of expectations. I would go as far as to recommend supermarket sashimi over dining at Itto Sushi. It's a glaring example of how not to present Japanese cuisine, urging potential patrons to consider any alternative for their sushi cravings.

Yelp
I dined solo. Sometimes it's nice to just sit with your own thoughts and be able to enjoy at your own pace. My experience was truly unforgettable. The service was terrific. I was provided everything I wanted and needed the sushi chef treated me so kindly, I felt welcomed and special. I am looking forward to going back with my family. I ordered a Small cold Gekkeikan sake A house salad One order of salmon nigiri Tonkatsu curry includes White rice, and miso soup I ordered salmon and tuna belly nigiri to go. The cold sake was refreshing and perfect with my meal. The nigiri was presented beautifully, the flavor was impeccable. I honestly cannot say enough about the delicious nigiri. The flavor of the Toro(tuna belly) was delicate with an unexpected but welcome sweetness, the sake(salmon) as delicious as well. The salad tasted fresh and very crisp, The ginger dressing was slightly sour and a little sweet. I especially liked the crunchy strips served on top. The curry had delicious flavor, The consistency was thin and it had nice bits of meat and melt in your mouth onion. The white rice was delicious and to my liking. The tonkatsu had a delicate, crisp breading. I liked how it tasted quite a bit, the meat was tender and juicy. The Nigri I took home to my family did not disappoint. They seemed taken back by the mild flavors. Another thing I really liked was the wasabi and the ginger the Nigri I got to go did not come with Ginger. I wish I would have realized that before I left so I could have ordered a side of ginger for my family. Thank you for the delicious food!

Yelp
This place was packed on our Friday night visit. Luckily, there were only two of us, so they were able to save us pretty quickly. I actually really appreciated the fast service. Our server ordered our food quickly and brought out our food quickly. and I mean no mistakes. we ordered a variety of special roles, as well as ramen noodles, takoyaki, and warm sake. For the price you pay, you definitely get your bang for your buck!
google avatar

Anthony F.

Yelp
This is a so so place as the food is ok. Not great but not bad. The variety is so so in terms of rolls. Seems everything must have tuna or cream cheese or shrimp. But the overall variety is decent in terms of all the apps vs mains vs rolls. Service was great and decor is average.

Yelp

Yelp
We loved our experience at Itto! The service was great and the fish was fresh. We brought friends who were experiencing sushi for the first time and they loved the rolls so much they even wanted to try sashimi and nigiri! The roll they set on fire was impressive and tasty, I don't usually prefer warm rolls but we enjoyed it. We will be back!

Brad N.

Yelp
Good sushi at an affordable price. Have been here twice and enjoyed it both times. The rolls that come on fire are fun and flavorfull.
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy food and presentation. No wait. Good space. Vegetable tempura is great size and actual full vegetable. Bento box allows you to choice two options and is filling. Sesame infused

Yelp
I don't eat sushi but my travel companions do and one is on a restrictive diet which includes sushi, so we came here for lunch. 2 in our party got bento boxes, one ordered individual sushi and I got the chicken teriyaki. I really enjoyed my meal, including the miso soup which was quite tasty. The teriyaki sauce had a different flavor, almost like honey was used to sweeten. Veggie tempura was good too. I enjoyed the chicken teriyaki and was able to try some beef teriyaki as well. Both were very good. The kicker was when the chef brought us a plate of the higher grade tuna to sample. I did not try it but it was a nice touch. Recommend!

Yelp
Well it's a good thing Itto Sushi is so easy to find downtown. This was my second visit , although my two friends are regulars! Now I know why. The rule for the three of us is two rolls each and one for the table. Truth is everything ends up being family style. So you can really tantalize the taste buds. So it was the mussel shooter to start things off. Mussels with quail egg? I wasn't expecting that but what a burst of flavor. Served on little spoons. Then out come the rolls. The Dracula roll, the Dandelion roll, the Scallop Dream , Cheesecake roll, the Titanic roll and finally the Itto roll. Can you say "food fight"? So many chopsticks going at the same time. But it was just enough for everyone until the next time. And there will be a next time for sure. Give them a go and see what you think. The Dracula roll came in its very own coffin. Nice touch Itto!

Yelp
We had a nice experience here! The food was yummy (especially the salmon bento box) and the service was really friendly. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Amazing sushi, gluten free options available, not too expensive and I know I can trust the fish from here.

Yelp
We were in downtown area on a snow day during lunch and saw this restaurant so we went in. The restaurant was not busy so we were seated immediately. - agedashi tofu: good crispy tofu and the broth was good and flavorful. However, the tofu pieces were rather small. - california roll: good & decent sushi. My kid liked it and finished it all - romeo & juliet roll: taste a bit confusing as it's sweet & savory. The mango sauce, mango & coconut flake were sweet so it tasted like dessert. Would nor recommend this. - mafia roll: this rice-less sushi was a unique fusion sushi & tasted good. The combination of tuna, avocado & spicy mayo worked well. The jalapeno gave a good kick. Overall, the food is decent (3.5 stars for me).

Yelp
THIS IS THE BEST SUSHI I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I am a broke college student, so finding a place that not only I can afford, but has some of the most flavorful, inventive, and unique rolls and menu items is crazy. The service is always kind, and sometimes the chefs just.... Give you free food cause they want to???? Such a good place. The downtown location does get crowded (which makes sense due to how good they are) but the Midvale one always has room.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Showed up at night and busy. Service was amazing and food was good. I was a little confused by the firebird Roll. They might want to explain that it's on fire and how to deal with it, but maybe they assumed I knew what I was doing. Maybe it was in the description and I missed it.
google avatar

Yelp
Happy hour at Itto Sushi rocks! They have lots of American style makis at 1/2 price starting at 5:00p. Arrive at five for easy seating. By six pm on a tuesday night the place was full. We had the Romeo and Juliette, and Godzilla rolls and they were both delicious. Service is hyper fast and friendly. Give them a try at the happy hour price, so what so you have to lose? Go eat some sushi! Highly recommend...
google avatar

Wesley T.

Yelp
I feel lucky to have happened upon Itto. The staff was friendly and helpful with the menu. I had the Ika Salad, eel nigiri, vampire roll, tuna and tuna belly. I'm impressed at the quality of their raw fish, being so far from any coast. The tuna belly was the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Susie L.

Yelp
I had a terrible experience here. I came with friends right at opening and initially ordered 2 omakase sashimi teishoku, but Victor (per the receipt) told us there were too many pick-up orders ahead, and it would take an hour, so we changed to 2 bento boxes instead. Shortly after, we decided we really wanted sashimi, so I asked to swap back to the 2 omakase sashimi teishoku, and he said it would now take even longer--up to an hour and a half--but we agreed. 30 minutes later, we were served 2 bento boxes and 1 omakase sashimi teishoku. When I reminded him about the swap, he gave me attitude and insisted I said I wanted to "add" the omakase sashimi teishoku. I KNOW WHAT I ORDERED. There was even no apology for the mix-up or his rude behavior. On top of that, the fish smelled off and didn't seem fresh. Between the poor service, lack of accountability, and questionable food quality, I'll never come back.
google avatar

Kimberli R.

Yelp
Very good sushi and terrific cucumber salad with crab. This is real crab-not imitation crab. We had to utilize take-out as there was no seating for the pups. The sushi was very good with generous portions. Salmon was fresh. There was a long wait to pick-up and we only got one soy sauce and one set of chop sticks so Brian had to go back and get more. This would be my go to place for sushi if I lived in SLC. Parking is on the street. The price is right. We will be back on the next trip!!
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
Yeah, I don't know man. I've been to hundreds of sushi places in my life and rarely been to one where they can't explain what the weird red cooked steak-like looking meat is on top of the fish roll we ordered. I also rarely end up burping strange smoky tasting fish all day after an outing, or have massive heartburn and a headache. Maybe it was the regular sodium soy sauce. I wouldn't say to avoid this place. Give it a shot because it's possible I just don't understand the style of fish they're serving here.
google avatar

Yelp
Advertised as best of Salt Lake and best of Utah I Came in with high expectations. We arrived as soon as they opened, were pleasantly greeted, and promptly seated. Our server was new in his position and did a fine job. We ordered many selections and did not wait long as they were brought out at an exceptionally frantic pace starting with exceptionally large salads. Things could have been slowed a bit. The choices were very creative on the menu. The sashimi was fresh and choice selections. However things really fell apart on the roll selections that were were simply dry and tasted stale. Very disappointed as the rice was well undercooked on every entree and left much unfinished as a result. We shared this with our server, who indicated he would pass the message along to the kitchen. The restaurant is in need of some overall maintenance and could be a bit cleaner. Not what I could call the best for the City/State related to atmosphere or food. Sorry.

Yelp
Itto Sushi Downtown is a great place to go to for a quick bite of sushi. The price point is pretty good. I love the bento box. For around $17, you get to a choice of two items and it comes with a salad, two potstickers, and rice. I chose salmon terriyaki and assorted three pieces of nigiri. Typically that would be enough for a single person but I was feeling ambitious so ordered two additional sushi rolls, the Mafia and the Wasatch. My partner ordered the vegetable yakisoba. The food came out super fast. I ordered, barely blinked and the Mafia arrived at the table. The Mafia was interesting since it came in a rice paper. Very interesting texture, not what I was expecting. The flavor was good. I enjoyed the Wasatch a bit better but the fried garlic was a bit hard on my teeth. Love the bento box like always. My partner also enjoyed the vegetable yakisoba. I appreciate that they have a variety of vegetarian options so we can eat together. Would definitely recommend this place. A piece of advice, sit away from the door. It scrapes and makes a very unpleasant sound whenever it closes. The noise will ruin your dinner.

Emma W.

Yelp
Walked in and the host/server at the front just looked at me, no greeting. I asked for a table for 1 and he took me to my table. He later then took my order and left. The other person smiled and greeted me when she brought my food out. Food was ok. The vampire sushi roll was ok. I remember it tasting better before. Karaage curry was bland and just blah. Would not recommend. I paid after my meal. Host/server just gave me my receipt and asked if I wanted a copy. No thank you, come back again, see you, have a good day, no nothing from him. Well, all I know is I won't be returning to this location.

Alyssa F.

Yelp
Got Itto delivered for lunch and thought this place was okay! Unfortunately I didn't get the miso soup I had ordered, but I tried the Lion King & Fire Dragon roll. I was super pleased with how fresh the ingredients were, but both rolls had an interesting sweetness to them that threw me off a bit, that wasn't from the mango on the Lion King. I also found that the rolls were a bit on the smaller side, but again, the fish was fresh and had great flavor so I'll definitely be back to try some other items in person as well.
google avatar

Bree P.

Yelp
This was some really good sushi! We got yellowtail nigiri, mafia roll, Vegas roll, and Dracula roll. The Dracula roll was so fun coming out in a coffin like presentation and delicious with a Smokey flavor. Yum! The service was super quick and the sushi chef gave us blue fin nigiri and OMG!!! It was absolutely incredible. The vibe of this place is nice quiet and looks very clean. Overall 5/5. Highly recommend.

Kelly B.

Yelp
I am a sushi snob and have been to almost every sushi restaurant... the sushi here is great! I love how extensive the menu is and how sweet the workers are! Best sushi in Utah!
google avatar

Dan A.

Yelp
Always great sushi and service!! Definitely the best and freshest sushi in the Salt Lake valley
google avatar

Sandra S.

Yelp
Itto sushi place has gotten to be one of my favorite sushi spots ever! I love that they have happy hour making their sushi selections a bit cheaper than normal, even if they raised prices. Last time I came here I ordered the bento box (which I usually never do) with the chicken katsu and the firebird roll. The firebird roll will always be my favorite! And the bento box that day was so fresh and delicious I ate everything. My go to spot!!

Austin G.

Yelp
Walking in off broadway wouldn't think to find a sushi place like this. Greeted with a friendly hello welcome in from the staff. The ambiance is fairly busy with people laughing and enjoying their food. The rolls were delicious and we came during happy hour so was easy on the wallet. Get some Nigiri as well so good. Come hungry
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
This place deserves all the stars. Fresh fish, great customer service, chef was so friendly and kind. Will definitely go back.
google avatar

Travis R.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi I've ever had. the strip-mall atmosphere doesn't detract from the incredible food. Very good and the happy hour is NOT to be missed.

Ryan D.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Sensitive to gluten free, can make everything GF which was wonderful.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
This was a cute and busy little sushi spot! I was greeted right away and sat in the back. The front street view tables were mostly full and I was alone. I ordered miso and stuffed jalapeños for the appetizer. They were both great! I also ordered the Mafia & Vegas rolls. Great size and serving of rolls. The only downfall for me is I'm allergic to shellfish and there was not many options with Just Tuna or Salmon. I could have asked for substitutes but I didn't so that's on me. Servers were great and nice ambiance! I'd go back!

Brooke W.

Yelp
very average, cold miso soup, refrigerated rolls, nothing made fresh, small rolls, good roll options, good for the price
google avatar

J D.

Yelp
We love Itto for everything. The prices are awesome for the quality we get here. Itto is on our weekly dinner rotation. We go when they're having their Happy Hour on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Love the Lion & Mafia rolls. They also have very yums Beef Yakisoba noodles. They're never crazy crowded even though their tables stay filled. It's our favorite regular sushi spot.

Yelp
This place is great! The service was phenomenal. Quickly getting sat and then getting my drink with a great recommendation from the waiter. The food amazing. I had a roll and some nigiri and all was worth writing a great review about.

Yelp
Chain restaurant with their downtown location nearby the convention center. Came here for lunch while on business trip and they offer a decent bento box with your choice of main entree and sides. Pricing was reasonable, large seating area inside, a la Carte sushi is also available.

Maddison D.

Yelp
Came here because of the good reviews. Sushi was gross and place was out dated and dirty.
Rolling hills with the sun above them
