IXCACAO Maya Belizean Chocolate

A tour at Xicacao is a wonderful experience! Juan and his son Henry are so knowledgeable and engaging when they tell the story of their business, farm, culture, and how chocolate is grown and made into delicious chocolate bars. You get to taste the beans and the chocolate and even try making some chocolate yourself if you'd like. If you are able, be sure to book a tour that includes lunch because Abelina is an amazing chef and you won't regret it! I actually went to stay for 3 nights at their farm to learn the entire process of farming and harvesting cacao. So if you have an interest in learning more, they can accommodate that as well. What is really special about their farm is how they use traditional and organic farming practices that integrate with the rainforest, rather than fighting against nature or clearing forest to grow food. Then of course there is chocolate to buy and take home 🍫♥️

Amazing tour, on the abundant farm. Where we were met by a sweet family, who has been farming for generations. Lots of treats and a good lunch and we feel way more knowledge about Belize and their traditions with cacao . would definitely recommend visiting

Often on tours we just get facts told to us and eventually it gets old. But Henry was amazing, we got information but it was personal, stories that related to facts. As a tourist I was invested in the story and learning as we went. He was one of the best guides on our trip to Belize. I will not forget what I learned here.

What a wonderful experience! I highly recommend taking the farm tour. It's not just looking at cacao trees. They have a self-sustaining multicultural farm site. Definitely bring a bag because you're able to harvest and take home limes and mangoes and ginger and turmeric and morenga and green curry and several other fruits I can't even remember the names. This farm has been in the same family for generations. They are committed to sustainable practices. Definitely stay for the lunch. The cacao chicken is out of this world! This is definitely a must see.

The chocolate tour was super worthwhile. Includes a cacao farm across the road, step by step explanation of the growing, harvesting, and processing, with lots of hands-on and tasting!

Very informative and interactive. Henry was awesome! Great food for lunch and so welcoming! I only wish we could've seen the big farm but it is at another location.

How to describe our experience today at Ixcacao... in a word, incredible! I have traveled to Belize many times over the past decade and been fortunate to go on many excursions - our day at Ixcacao easily tops my list of must-do adventures. Absolutely amazing experience! Henry walked us through the cacao plantation and explained many details not only about cacao but also about the Maya culture, fruits, spices and much more and we even tried many of the fruits and spices they have in their garden. This was followed by a very delicious lunch, tasting of different chocolates and more information on the chocolate making process. Really can recommend a visit there. It is absolutely worth it :) Thanks a lot to Henry and the chocolate queen!
