Izaak Walton Inn

A random stop in Embu while coming from Chogoria led me to this beautiful hidden gem. The place is stunning with great aesthetics, and the atmosphere immediately makes you feel relaxed. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. What started as a quick lunch stop turned into a relaxing afternoon spent enjoying the lovely gardens. The three-course meal of the day was lamb chops, and they were absolutely amazing — tender and full of flavor. The only thing they could improve on is the presentation of the meal, but overall it was a fantastic experience. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

It hurts me to have to give this hotel a 2-star. I have always loved this place (having been raised in Embu). However,this hotel is rapidly degenerating. So I returned to Kenya after being away for 5 years and I was looking forward to spending a few nights here. My three days there were awful. The only reason I stayed is because of the nostalgia I still had for the place. There; -no towels and and the room cleaner would at times bring me partially wet towels. They completely did not have face towels. I had to drive to the supermarket to buy my own towels. -The bathrooms water was unpredictable. Sometimes hot and at times cold. I usually do cold showers so I did not care ,but I would definitely not stay here with a family member (they love warm showers). -The room keys were just mediocre (a huge wood attached to a key). - The gym was not working. -The employees looked helpless whenever I asked for something (I tipped them out of pity). I honestly don’t believe it was worth my money. I had experienced half of this five years ago but this time it was worse. I hope they can do a proper come back!

A quick stop in Embu led to a pleasant surprise at Isaac Walton Inn, where the Bacon, Cheese & Egg burger delivered more than expected. Presentation-wise, it looked about 83% like the photo on the menu—close enough to spark confidence with the chef. The double patty was slightly overcooked, but still held on to its flavor. What helped balance things out were the caramelized onions, which added a rich, slightly sweet depth that worked well with the savory bacon and melted cheese. Overall, the burger was filling, enjoyable, and easy to finish. If they could start asking guests how they prefer their meat cooked, this could easily become a reliable go-to for a solid, no-fuss burger in Embu.

Located along Embu-Meru road, this place offers a serene environment away from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi. The rooms are clean and spacious, food delish with generous portions. I had their enchiladas that were so full of flavor. Definitely worth a stop over when heading to Meru

I had a wonderful stay at the Izaak Walton Inn! The surrounding environment was serene, providing a perfect getaway for anyone looking to unwind. The dining options were also top-notch, with delicious meals served promptly.

The grounds are inviting, but watch out for Narrow Bee flies. Still nursing a burn. The food wasn't well prepared, was too little, and was not worth the price. The receptionist was on his phone as he showed us the rooms - completely oblivious that we were guests. Rooms turned out to be old, mouldy, and with the tiniest beds for twin rooms. Didn't book.
