We recently visited Izakaya Matsuri and loved the new menu additions. The sushi was fresh and beautifully made, and the kimchi ramen was rich and flavorful. We also enjoyed the tataki salad, calamari, and agedashi tofu. Great food, cozy vibe, still one of our favorite Japanese spots in Cape Town.

I was saddened by the price point for this meal. It's R200 for a bowl of ramen, which I can justify if it's worth it, but the quality was poor. The broth was good, but the noodles were overcooked and I got 1 slice of charsu pork. This along with my single leaf of bokchoi and HALF of 1 (one) hardboiled egg was frustrating. You would hope for something comforting but instead you're rationing your toppings cause otherwise you're left with soggy noodles. The spicy tuna chili poppers were a nice take on a menu staple and not over cooked.

Visited Izakaya for a Birthday celebration and wasn't disappointed by anything but the portion size of the Japanese curry. Our waiter was lovely and kept us up to speed with what was happening in the kitchen - our food took a while to get to the table, but that's expected when you have a big table. The atmosphere was cozy and the food was delicious. Look forward to returning and trying the other offerings.

This restaurant probably has THE BEST sushi and ramen I've had to date! The sushi was fresh and flavourful, the ramen was savoury and umami but not too salty. The service was also lovely! I will definitely return, but with a bigger budget next time haha The prices reflect the quality, I will say as much.

This is easily my favorite Japanese restaurant in Cape Town. I have dined at Izakaya several times and I definitely intend to keep coming back. Abdullah was the server on my most recent visit and he did an AMAZING job. This is a small restaurant with around 10 tables and Abdullah catered to us all so gracefully. I hope the establishment appreciates what a great job he is doing. The environment is intimate and laid back with a solid amount of Japanese themed decor. I came here to celebrate a birthday and the Happy Birthday desert was so lovely! The ice cream sampler had wasabi flavor, fried ice cream, and matcha flavor. It was absolutely perfect! I would recommend the soft shell crab, prawn tempura, stir fried noodles, and every flavor on their ice cream sampler. Izakaya is one of the rare restaurants in Cape Town where you can order Soju (Korean Wine) at a decent price - another great reason to try this restaurant. Liked this review? I’ve ordered from them before via Uber Eats and always enjoyed their food, but made a special effort to go find them and have a sit down meal. Food was excellent all round between Ramen, Sushi and dessert. Amazing range of sushi with impressively fresh ingredients at a surprisingly reasonable price. They also do baked rather than deep fried sushi which I normally skip, but this change makes it quite excellent. Highly recommend the Fireball rolls for a different sushi experience.

This was the first restaurant we went to in our little trip to Cape Town - it's tucked into a corner, really hidden away, but it genuinely has some of the best sushi I've ever tasted. Our waiter Abdullah was absolutely wonderful, he was very willing to take the time to walk us through the menu and give us recommendations.

Hidden in an alley with the most unexpected beautiful greenery. The food was flavourful & the service fairly good. I came across this place on the blog listing the best dumplings in CT & they were good but not exceptional. I really enjoyed the flavour sensations in the ice cream trio. Green matcha & red bean paste was my favourite. The wasabi ice cream was surprisingly good as well.
