I’ve ordered from them before via Uber Eats and always enjoyed their food, but made a special effort to go find them and have a sit down meal. Food was excellent all round between Ramen, Sushi and dessert. Amazing range of sushi with impressively fresh ingredients at a surprisingly reasonable price. They also do baked rather than deep fried sushi which I normally skip, but this change makes it quite excellent. Highly recommend the Fireball rolls for a different sushi experience.

This is easily my favorite Japanese restaurant in Cape Town. I have dined at Izakaya several times and I definitely intend to keep coming back. Abdullah was the server on my most recent visit and he did an AMAZING job. This is a small restaurant with around 10 tables and Abdullah catered to us all so gracefully. I hope the establishment appreciates what a great job he is doing. The environment is intimate and laid back with a solid amount of Japanese themed decor. I came here to celebrate a birthday and the Happy Birthday desert was so lovely! The ice cream sampler had wasabi flavor, fried ice cream, and matcha flavor. It was absolutely perfect! I would recommend the soft shell crab, prawn tempura, stir fried noodles, and every flavor on their ice cream sampler. Izakaya is one of the rare restaurants in Cape Town where you can order Soju (Korean Wine) at a decent price - another great reason to try this restaurant. Liked this review? Visited Izakaya for a Birthday celebration and wasn't disappointed by anything but the portion size of the Japanese curry. Our waiter was lovely and kept us up to speed with what was happening in the kitchen - our food took a while to get to the table, but that's expected when you have a big table. The atmosphere was cozy and the food was delicious. Look forward to returning and trying the other offerings.

We had an amazing experience at Izakaya Matsuri celebrating my husband's birthday last night! The service was fantastic - even though there was only one waiter for all of the tables we never felt like he wasn't attentive to us! He knew the menu very well, made excellent recommendations and treated us so well even though we had a lot of requests and questions. The food was the true highlight from the starter platter (5 Amazing items on the platter) to the Tonkontsu Ramen to the sushi! The Crunch bomb roll, the Aboru Baked Salmon Roll and the Kiss of fire roll were our favourites! Will defs be back!

We had a fantastic meal with everything cooked and presented to our liking. Special thanks to Lindy who looked after us and managed to make all our requests a reality. We eat Japanede food all over the world and this understated restaurant rates amongst the best outside of Japan .

What a disappointment! Apart from being annoyed at battling to find the entrance (which incidentally is through the alley looking like the entrance to Vasco da Gama Taverna), I was excited to see soft shell crab on the menu. I was there to try the ramen of after all. So I ordered both. I am uncertain which disappointed more; the soft shell crab tasted like something warmed up in a microwave - not crispy at all - accompanied by what could only be described as a misplaced sad looking thousand island dressing. The tonkatsu pork ramen was a soggy mess of previously frozen everything! The plain hard boiled egg was the final insult to this already injured meal - would it honestly kill the chef to put in the little bit of extra effort to marinate the egg first? Considering the other ramen options in town, this was a complete and utter miss for me!

Hidden in an alley with the most unexpected beautiful greenery. The food was flavourful & the service fairly good. I came across this place on the blog listing the best dumplings in CT & they were good but not exceptional. I really enjoyed the flavour sensations in the ice cream trio. Green matcha & red bean paste was my favourite. The wasabi ice cream was surprisingly good as well.
