Google
Not important all as the milkshake was so thin and way overpriced. This is the only ice cream joint that sell by the half scoop. It is so overpriced and the employees make you feel like you bothering them. I get it, tourist trap town and busy based on location but really do better.

Zach Hagan

Google
Ice cream was delicious and the service was fast and efficient! Definitely a place worth stopping in if you're walking around the area.

Kate

Google
Extremely overpriced and small portions. Very good creamsicle milkshake though. Probably best I’ve ever had. For icecream for the family I’d recommend Annabelle’s instead.

Stephen Priest

Google
Ice-cream and service were great! I had the Graham Central Station, graham crackers and chocolate, my son had chocolate and my friend had an ice coffee blended with chocolate Ice-cream. I don't know the name of it. Ipay/Android pay accepted. Service is only at the entrance. Update: Sunday, October 2020; This business may be getting ready to shut down for the season. My son had the last of the Death by Chocolate, my friend, she had a sundae with Heath Bar crunch. I had a chocolate 🍫 chip. We all liked our ice-creams and service was good. Update: July 4th, 2021; German Chocolate Cake was good. Update: May 2022; Inside open. I tried the Orange Creamsicle shake. Orange soda with vanilla 🍦 ice-cream. Disappointing. I was hoping they would add orange sherbet.

Google
Online it says they close at 10pm on Saturday. We got there at 9:40 and the door was locked and the girl working there just stood there and started at us until we walked away. Very disappointed since we drove 20min just to get ice cream here.

Noah

Google
Stopped by spontaneously on a Monday afternoon and I was so delighted with my experience at Izzy’s. I salted caramel chocolate pretzel and I can’t remember the last time I’ve had such a delicious ice cream flavor in the US. Seriously check it out, I was very pleased

Davis Whitney

Google
The ice cream was so good it literally melted in my mouth and my grandma thought it was amazing

Alaina Cannizzaro

Google
O.M.G. BEST ice cream I've ever had! We got Pumpkin and Apple Crisp. Amazing!

Yelp
Good ice cream. Homemade with a good assortment of flavors. Excellent staff. Cute place. The toffee 8ce cream with toffee bits was ok, I think it had 1 piece of candy in it and tasted more like coffee than toffee, I know the flavors are similar. The peanut butter ice cream with candy tasted better, but not many pieces of reeses. There was also no ac and it was hotter inside than outside. The soft serve machine did not work either and one girl left because of it. Not too much seating inside. Boring interior. Everyone was fanning themselves from the heat. I wish I would have liked it better. Good, fair prices. Local place.

Yelp
Vegan cookies and cream was beyond delicious! I only ordered 1 scoop but it was a pretty large serving.
google avatar

Yelp
I live locally and have never been in here and was so happy to find they have dairy free flavors. It's so hard to find anything other than sorbet at most places, so this was a great treat! I haven't gotten to have ice cream out in years because I can never find any dairy free. I had the vegan cookies and cream and it was delicious. I also like that they have smaller portion size options available , perfect for a "hit the spot" treat!

Yelp
I've been here a number of times over the years and it never fails to disappoint. You can tell by the number of photos of celebrities enjoying the ice cream that it's well-loved and quality. I enjoy that they have a lot of different flavors--some that are generally typical in New England--and some creative ones. It's definitely worth mixing and matching with multiple scoops. I'm a big fan of the black raspberry, coconut, and graham central station. They have a few tables inside but there are benches outside to enjoy it with primo people watching. The harbor is just around the corner if you want to see the water.

Emma R.

Yelp
Medium soft serve was about 3oz for $4.61. Seems like a lot. At least at Ice House and Beach Plum you get your money's worth.
google avatar

Stacey H.

Yelp
Izzy's always hits the spot- I go for their waffle cone with Cookies and cream yogurt and Coffee Heath yogurt. The serving is what I would consider normal (which isn't a bad thing, its just not overflowing like some other places) and the staff are super friendly. Its the perfect place to stop at as you walk around Portsmouth!
google avatar

Moriah B.

Yelp
I do not recommend the vegan ice cream. Poor consistency and flavor. Had large chunks of ice in it.

Baylor H.

Yelp
I went to Izzy's for vegan ice cream, and they do have a few different flavors. I found the texture a bit icy--not enough to keep me from enjoying my treat. But for the price (high!), I want a really premium product. So I'll try some other places.

Yelp
A dream come true! So many flavors and many non dairy options including cookies and cream coconut milk based ice cream! Hard to find non dairy ice cream not made with almond or some other similar nut milk. Other non dairy options include an assortment of sorbets. Also the best brownie sundae ever! So fresh and delicious! If you're looking for something cool & sweet after a meal, this is the place to go!
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
The coffee kaluah brownie ice cream was great. I liked the half scoop option, was perfect for after lunch. Pumpkin spice latte was really good too. Prices very fair.

Jas W.

Yelp
For a keto person finding a no sugar added ice cream is a struggle. Found this with friendly staff. I got a frozen yogurt coffee heath and no sugar added coffee ice cream.
google avatar

Matt U.

Yelp
The ice cream and the selection is really good. I enjoy getting a ice cream cup and sitting on the sidewalk benches enjoying the town.
google avatar

Andres A.

Yelp
A nice ice cream shop with all the regular Dixon's one would expect. The line was long and there was only one person taking care of customers but we were served quickly and it was worth the wait.
google avatar

Yelp
OMG!!! This is LITERALLY THE WORST 2 MILKSHAKEs ON THE PLANET! NO flavor! ALL milk! NO ice cream! AWFUL! AWFUL! AWFUL! Walk 4 secs further down the street and get your ice cream from Annabelle's. It HAS to be better than this waste of time. Neither Annabelles or Red Rover's makes milkshakes, which is why we ended up at Izzy's. We thought (JACKPOT!) when we saw that Izzy's made milkshakes. But DAMN...who knew you could screw up a MILKSHAKE?! We should have just flushed $14 bucks down the toilette. It least that would be a more interesting story to tell.
google avatar

Becky G.

Yelp
Fabulous! Get the baileys brownie flavor. They also have half scoops, which is the perfect excuse to still get dessert even if you're full.
google avatar

Michele L.

Yelp
Wow! Great selection of gluten free and dairy free options. Quick service with a friendly smile. Must stop on your next leisurely stroll in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire..

W. C.

Yelp
I think Izzzy's ice cream is from Richardson's Farm (Middleton, MA). That's a plus, a big plus. In my opinion, Izzy's prices are exorbitant for the portion size that they serve. Two scoops ($4.50) looked like one scoop. Granted, Portsmouth is at the height of "Tourist Season," and, I get it, you have to "make hay while the sun is shining," but, in my opinion, Izzy's could easily align their portion sizes with their prices, and "take the high road," not price gouge.
google avatar

Steff D.

Yelp
I was sad to hear that Izzy's doesn't make their ice cream or froyo on premises - the girl at the counter informed me that it's all made at a farm in Massachusetts then sent up to them. This isn't that big of a deal, but when you come from a region of the world that is super hyper-local, it just came as a surprise to me that they a) weren't using a New Hampshire farm, and b) didn't even make their own goods. Anyway - there's my two cents on that! The small space at Izzy's always seems clean, and tends to have a steady flow of people coming in and out (especially on the weekend). So, be prepared to wait! The staff seems top notch, too: the last time I came there was one solitary employee handling a very long, demanding line. The people in front of us were very rude to her, but she handled it with grace and patience. Kudos to her! When it was my turn to order, per her suggestion, I got the German Chocolate Cake (which wasn't even on the menu board). I'm glad I listened to her (and sorry for the rude fellow in front of me earlier who told her that ice cream "sounded disgusting" - he had no idea what culinary joy he missed out on!): it was a chocolate AND coconut flavored ice cream with glorious chunks of fudgey-brownie and pockets of ooey, gooey caramel, too. I seriously regret getting a small! My friend got the black raspberry and inhaled it within minutes - so, I know he loved his berry flavored dessert as much as I did mine. There's plenty of flavors here that will tempt you to come back, too. Next time I might get some Graham Central Station (graham flavored ice cream with chocolate covered honey combs), Coffee Kahlua Brownie (coffee and Kahlua ice cream with hunks of real fudge brownies), Cake Batter (vanilla cake batter base with chunks of cake), Death by Chocolate (dark chocolate ice cream with a milk chocolate twirl, chocolate chips, and decadent fudge brownies), and Salted Caramel Chocolate Pretzel (caramel ice cream with lots of chocolate covered pretzels and a salted caramel swirl). What's that, like, 5-scoops? Oh, it will be epic!

Yelp
We randomly stumbled upon Izzy's as we were walking around Portsmouth and decided it was time for some ice cream. We picked the right place! Their ice cream is all handmade on a local farm and is fantastic. I went for a mix of the Purple Cow and Mint Patty froyos and my husband went for the "More Than a Reese's" shake. Both were fantastic and super filling. The froyo didn't taste like froyo (if I hadn't known, I would have guessed it was ice cream) and both the froyo and shake were thick & creamy. YUM!
google avatar

Adam B.

Yelp
Lovely little shop. Plenty of options, friendly staff. The space is extremely small so I would be prepared to get your order and start walking around. If you order a sundae or something a little more involved good luck finding a place to sit and eat it.
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
Good location in the heart of funky Portsmouth. Wide selection of flavors. The server was friendly and helpful. I asked for a combo orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream which wasn't on the menu but she happily obliged. It was dreamy. Looking forward to going back and trying their new Wild Blueberry ice cream.

George C.

Yelp
The ice cream at this spot near Annabelle's isn't as good, though they're friendlier.
google avatar

Eric P.

Yelp
We drove 15 minutes on a Sunday because the hours here said open until 11pm. The lights were off at 915pm. Someone needs to pay attention to updating these sites.

Yelp
I just went to Izzy's for the third time this year and it really struck me how it is everything you want in a summer ice cream place and how much I enjoy it. The ice cream is summer fun delicious, and the portions make you ooh and aah and laugh out loud. The girls, no matter what crew is on (maybe cloned?), are always working like a finely tuned machine, to the point that I watch them and marvel at how they work seamlessly together and always stay so friendly. How do they do it? The hiring process and management of the team should be commended :). I also want to point out that in the past summers, as well as this year, there is always a line reaching to the door... Not to worry though. For some reason it looks scarier than it actually is. Again, the crew is to be commended because it's a small place and the line is no matter. The girls are efficient enough that the line gives you just enough time to pick a flavor!! As-in all the many and unique flavors all look good (graham-central-station!) and you need to concentrate so you don't mumble about flavors (Like I always do, sorry) when you reach the counter... there are lots of people behind you! Thanks Izzy for the stuff of summer memories.

Yelp
Very Mediocre malt. Tasted like soft serve chocolate ice cream. They use malted milk power instead of real malt powder which is the ghetto way of doing it. It gives it a faint malt taste but can't be considered a real malt. The chocolate flavor was weak too. Like vanilla ice cream made with Hershey's syrup. I should have watched her make it but with 30 years in business I expected it to be top notch. It was disappointed I am sorry to say. I could make better at home and for $7.60 I should get something memorable. Lesson learned

Yelp
We finished dinner and decided to go for ice cream stopped at this very convenient store in the hopping town of Portsmouth. Yay we walked in with no line... I can't remember what kind of ice cream I got but it was a large delicious sugar cone. The servers were very pleasant and there were chairs to sit and enjoy our dessert.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Izzy's was busy and crowded. Stopped in for a quick bite for dessert after dinner before making the trek home. The ice cream was good and service was friendly.
google avatar

Tammy L.

Yelp
You can't go for dinner in Portsmouth and not stop by for an ice cream after! Best ice cream! Chocolate peanut butter is to die for. Go!
google avatar

R P.

Yelp
Nice regular little ice cream shop. Ice cream, frozen yogurt and drinks. Good variety of flavors.

Yelp
When roaming around P-smouth, ice-cream seekers (not familiar with the town) spot Izzy's before Annabelle's. She is situated on the corner of Bow St and has a cute little shop front - - - most would think, "Why look further?" (...those people can have Izzy's, for all I care). *Every time that I've come here, there's been drama. If it's not the people in line (loads of tweens in Ugg's and Coach), it's behind the counter (I've actually witnessed two employees come close to swinging fists - really?). *A small assortment of flavors which may or may not be included on the flavors board (don't expect to ask for a sample without having someone behind the counter roll their eyes) - but the taste is delightful (a good solid ice cream). *They DO make a good smoothie! If you're an ice cream stickler, you may be best suited wandering down the ally to Annabelle's. Izzy's is good for ice cream fast, but I'm a sentimental gal. Fro-yo and Ice Cream connoisseurs - - - check out the ice cream down the ally.

Don W.

Yelp
Open for the season. I didn't stop in because I had a big dinner at The Rosa and a big lunch at Savario's, but welcome back! This update is just to say that Izzy's is now open and a 2009 review will follow soon. Let the big Izzy's vs. Annabelle's challenge begin!
google avatar

Reyz A.

Yelp
If you're aimlessly wandering around being a tourist, it's either you stop for coffee or ice cream break. I chose the latter. Try their sundae here, it's just about how would make it. It filled my sweet tooth for me. Rats...a parking ticket (I can choose not to pay, but that means this California dude can never re-enter New Hampshire, or for that matter Maine, or for that matter Quebec in the future). This was an expensive sundae on a Sunday.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
A perfect ice cream parlor that offers a nice selection of ice cream, sundaes, frozen yogurt and custard. Everything is of high quality ingredients. The young lady working behind the counter, 30 minutes before closing, had about ten people walk in. She handled herself like a professional and keep the line moving. bravo!!
google avatar

Arnel L.

Yelp
All I had was the coffee ice cream. The ice cream was pretty good. The only problem was there was only one person behind the counter and it took 10-15 minutes to get my single scoop of coffee ice cream. I'd give 4 stars if they had an express line. :-)
google avatar

Carly M.

Yelp
I am in love with their death by chocolate ice cream. I am lactose intolerant and yet when I am craving really delicious ice cream, I will go here for a scoop of the best ice cream. Their prices aren't bad either, for 2 ice creams. 1 a scoop and another 2 scoops, cost around 8 bucks. not bad at all for me. totally addicting. and yummy.
google avatar

Janie W.

Yelp
Tried the pumpkin ice cream. YUM! It's like eating fall. Boyfriend had the black raspberry chip frozen yogurt, he said it left a weird aftertaste. Stick with the ice cream.

Charlotte P.

Yelp
What a treat! The place was busy when we stopped by after dinner. But the line moved quickly! It did give me time to figure out what I wanted from the amazing selection of flavors! Their portions were generous and I was super excited when she said I could pick 2 flavors with the 1 scoop size. They have 3 sizes -1/2, 1 and 2 scoops. I can't imagine how big the 2 scoop size is when you see how big the 1 scoop is. I hesitated between a lot of different flavors but opted for the Salted caramel pretzel and the German chocolate cake. Sooo good! The salted caramel was delicious but the pretzels weren't as crunchy as they were mixed in. Still delighted by my choice. My husband cannot do dairy and had the choice between sorbet and one vegan option - coconut cookies and cream. It was in his words the best ice cream he has had. It was with a coconut cream base and it was sooo creamy and delicious. I couldn't believe it was non-dairy. They had a small selection of toppings and also could make blizzard-type treats. Will be back to try the other flavors!!
google avatar

Isabella S.

Yelp
I hate to give this local shop 2 stars but it really was nothing special. The only draw to it was the name - since some of my friends call me Izzy. The line was super long and there was only one person working which confused me. In a town like this where people are always around - eating, shopping and probably looking to end the night with a sweet treat in the summer why is there only one person working? By the time we left, the line was out the door. I ordered a very basic hot fudge sundae which was extremely over priced. I paid over 6$ for what looked like one scoop of ice cream and it was served to me in a dixie bowl. It seemed like something I could have put together at a family BBQ. The fudge was really good and I enjoyed it, but like I said nothing special and certainly not worth the price. Maybe I'd come back for a small cone or a unique flavor, but can't see myself spending over 6$ for one scoop of ice cream again. Like the rating says, I've experienced better.

Eric G.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream and soft serve with friendly staff. We stopped in to get our young daughter her first taste of ice cream, and she loved it! The cake batter ice cream actually had bits of cake in it, which I enjoyed. Also pleased they're living in this century and are not a "cash only" business - makes a big difference.

Bill R.

Yelp
The Ice Cream here gets Five Stars. Izzy's serves Richardson's Farms ice cream and offers multiple choices based upon creative blends of ingredients. Great ice cream and yogurt dishes! The inside of the shop? Not so much. It occupies a small corner space near several dining spots along the river in Portsmouth. The low ceiling and poor air circulation inside the shop makes for miserable moments spent there. The girls working there should be provided terry cloth robes and given fly swatters to ward off the flies that hovered inside the space. Why the owner has not installed air conditioning or fans that could cool off customers and force air against the squadron of flies is inexplicable. The outside temperatures were between 65 and 70 F. The shop interior was 90 F and at least 90% humidity. That reflects very poor consideration for customers, and especially employees.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Went in to get soft serve ice cream. But it ended up to be soft serve ice milk that was way too soft. Very disappointed. Signs outside say ice cream, but I guess they are referring to the scoop stuff, not the soft serve. Overpriced too, but they are in a high rent area I am sure.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Izzy's is famous for their froyo but their ice cream rocks! Better than Annabelle's by far! And the service is better too! Great little ice cream shop!!

Michael R.

Yelp
Friendly staff, pretty good choice of ice cream but wanted the peppermint stick to have more flavor. But hit the spot and shorter line than place down the block.
google avatar

Susan B.

Yelp
My sister and I made a beeline for the closest ice cream shop in Portsmouth, NH which was Izzy's. I chose the Brownie Sundae, caramel instead of hot fudge and no nuts. The brownie was warm and the vanilla scoop of homemade ice cream had the perfect ratio and drizzled on top was the caramel and dollop of whipped cream which accented all the warm gooey favors together.

Tim G.

Yelp
"Try" your flavor first. I went here twice during an extended visit. The first time, I had a plain vanilla hard scoop cone. It was very good. On my second visit I experimented with the "cake batter" ice cream, which is normally one of my favorites. It was a day glow shade of yellow (radioactive yellow may be a better description) that had WAAAY too much cake batter in it. It was the first time I have ever had ice cream taste dry/gritty. If I had tried this flavor first, I would have chosen something else.
google avatar

Brad W.

Yelp
BOMB.COM. Get the 'More Than A Reese's Dizzy Izzy'. It was phenomenal.
google avatar

Denise G.

Yelp
Our Dizzy Izzy --- we added some tasty m&ms to ours--was sinfully tasty.

Erica P.

Yelp
Really great ice cream and frozen yogurt! I got the Coffee Heath Bar Crunch froyo and it tasted just like the Ben and Jerry's flavor! The girls who worked there were very nice. It was very hot inside but it could have been because it was a warm day.
google avatar

Rave M.

Yelp
They are automatically a-ok in my book for carrying my favorite: black raspberry with chocolate chips. That fourth star, though? That's because it was frozen yogurt. Excellent. But if froyo isn't your thing, don't worry -- they carry an "All-American High-Fat Sundae" as well!
